Work Text:
Kaveh had such a pretty roommate. she had lovely fluffy hair that looks like a birds nest every morning. He knew his roommate didn't put much care into how she looks, in fact Kaveh was the one to have an actual fashion sense.
Kaveh didn't have all that much money, as it was common knowledge after all, but when he had the money he liked to buy Alhatiam nice smelly perfumes he'd end up using himself, or a fancy brush or piece of jewelry.
but hers the thing, while not all women may like pretty things, Alhatiam would act like women things were like the plague at times as if it was a hurt puppy you were unsure if you should help it or get someone else to sort the issue out.
"can i braid your hair?" Kaveh asked, bored out of his mind as he was struggling to find work at the moment. Alhatiam glanced up from her book, "you've offically lost your mind then" she hummed, but Kaveh didn't hear a no.
He stood behind the sofa where his roommate sat, happily braid the lovely grey locks.
She never used fancy things in her hair like Kaveh did, the smells bothered her and seemed to distract her. she had scentless deodorants and didn't touch the fancy perfumes Kaveh would buy her, he'd end up using them himself.
while braiding her hair, kaveh noticed the dead ends on her head, "have you booked a haircut recently?" Kaveh asked, "you have some dead ends" he said, lacing her hair though his fingers. Alhatiam huffed, "no i usually don't like people touching my hair, yet here we are" she grumbled, her head twitching every now and then from the fell of Kaveh's hands on her head. the blonde just laughed, "yup, here we are" he hummed, "want me to book you in with the same women as last time? she did a good job"
Alhatiam put down the book she had been reading, rolling the golden ring on her middle finger, "hm... maybe..."
"well i'm out tomorrow so i'll drop by the hair salon for you" Kaveh decided, tying off the plait.
Alhatiam stood up, looking at the plait, no emotion on her face. "may i ask you a question?" she then said, looking up as Kaveh, who was already looking for something else to do.
"of course, ask away" Kaveh looked back at his roommate. Alhatiam rubbed the back of her neck, for once she looked uncomfortable...? that's a new expression on her face. "do you enjoy being a man?" she asked, refusing to make eye contact.
it was a weird question that took Kaveh by surprise, he patted his chest subconsciously, "well i've got nothing to complain about"
"i see"
the next day, Kaveh sorted out the hair appointment for Alhatiam, he finally found some work to do- it was a good day. he had two things on his to do list today and he got a tick on both things. on the way to the bar, he stopped for a moment as he saw his roommate walking out the doctors. was she sick? she seemed fine this morning.
natrally, he walked up to her "Hey, what are you doing at the doctors?" he got right to the point, worried. Alhatiam seemed surprised to see Kaveh here, but held up that stonic face, "i don't see how it's your issue" she simply said, fiddling with her ring once more.
"well i'm sorry for being worried for you, Lord above" Kaveh grumbled, "i've got you an appoitment as five o'clock tomorrow, that okay?"
"yes, thank you" Alhatiam nodded her head, pulling at her lose strands of hair "are you going to the bar?"
"i am, but since you've gone to the doctors you're not drinking tonight" Kaveh decided. Alhatiam rolled her eyes, "like most normal people I don't drink on a Wednesday night... for the sake of your liver you shouldn't either"
"did you go and see a doctor or are you secretly as a doctor now?" Kaveh lightly elbowed Alhatiam, it was just banter. a banter they both grew oh so comfortable with. "i think i'd be a pretty good doctor" Alhatiam decided, "then again if i had a patient like you i'd quite within a day"
"i'm not that bad"
"i can hear your liver screaming for help"
Kaveh tutted, pulling a face, "you're putting me off wanting a drink" he stated and the two walked into the bar.
Alhatiam smirked, following the older to a free table, "that's not even possible" and that earned a laugh from Kaveh, "i'll add just because i'm here doesn't mean i'm buying you drinks"
kaveh waved a hand in the air, "as if i'd ever make a women buy me drinks" he rolled his eyes before signalling to the bar for a drink. Alhatiam tried not to flich at the word before rebuttling, "as if i don't nearly every night i find you here" she hummed, leaning on the table.
Kaveh looked back at her with them eyes he does. them loving adoring eyes that have looked at her liek that since they first met even when they argued, them kind eyes still shone, just with some rage in them. She doesn't like her body, but telling Kaveh could take them loving eyes away, scare him off. Alhatiam picked at her nail bed, two drinks on the table. "i'm assuming no alcohol tonight, Miss Alhaitam?" the waiter said, giving her the none alcholic drink.
miss...
"not tonight" she nodded her head with a small amount of satisfaction. the two came so often, they had both hers and Kaveh's drinking habits down to a T. she did always like having a plan to everything.
she looked at Kaveh, who's eyes were narrowed at her. he was thinking about something, Alhatiam being the thought. but she could see the thought quickly dismissed at he chugged his first drink of the night.
the next day, Alhatiam turned up to the salon. "so, what we thinking today?" the hairdresser asked, she messed with Alhatiams hair, but not in the same relaxing way Kaveh does, it felt more aggressive, making her head twitch. Alhatiam was very unsure about the idea, what would kaveh think? oh what the hell, she'll find out later when she gets home what Kaveh thinks
"i was thinking we take it all off" she stated, trying to make it sound like it was no big deal, but to Alhatiam, it was a huge fucking deal.
Kaveh had a beautiful roommate.
"I'm home" Alhatiam announced as she walked though the door, messing with her new hair do.
"welcome back! i've made pasta for dinner- oh wow" Kaveh stopped half way though his sentance, looking at Alhatiam. she noted them loving eyes. "wow, Alhatiam, you look- wow" he was speechless. Alhatiam smiled, brushing some of the hair out of her face. "do you like it?" Kaveh asked, getting into Alhatiams face to mess with the new hair do also. Alhaitam nodded her head. Kaveh smiled brightly, "thats good, i'm gonna miss braiding your hair though" Alhatiam held onto Kavehs wrist, looking at him with content.
"Kaveh, one of these days i'm tell you something big, but i have to get braver first" she said, feeling like a small child under Kaveh's gaze.
Kaveh nodded his head, "okay..." he had a brow raised, unsure what to say.
"also rent is due in two weeks"
"oh fuck sake!"
