Work Text:
Patrick walked off stage, with Pete right behind him. The crowd was still going crazy with cheers after their set.
Pete swiped Patrick’s hair off of his sweaty forehead and kissed him on his cheek.
“That was a great show, man. Good job.”
Even after around a year and a half of them dating, Patrick still got flustered when pete kissed him after shows.
“T-thanks..” He gently smiled, and walked towards the door that led to the van. The equipment was already being loaded into the van’s trailer by Andy and Joe.
Pete dug the keys out of his pocket and said “Who’s driving tonight?”
Andy dropped the last case of things into the trailer and looked up.
“Patrick put on a great show tonight, so he can sleep in the back.”
Joe nodded without taking his cigarette out of his mouth or looking up at them.
“I agree,” Pete nodded. “Andy, do you wanna drive? Since you slept back there yesterday?”
“Yeah, it’s fine. Let me get my stuff out of the back room and i’ll pack it up.”
Pete tossed the keys to him and he caught them, and shoved them in his shorts pocket.
Patrick came out of the doors at the same time Andy went in.
“Who’s driving?”
“Andy, we all agreed you get to sleep in the back seat since you did really good tonight.”
“Oh, yay! Thanks!”
Andy came back after a bit of shoving his clothes and things into a duffel bag.
“I call shotgun!” Joe shouted, and everybody knew not to argue with him about his claims of shotgun.
“Looks like it’s just us in the back then, Trick.” Pete said.
Andy stacked his and the rest of the bands bags on one side of the backseats floor.
“That should leave enough room for you guys.”
Pete hopped into the middle seat and patted the one beside him.
Andy got into the front seat with Joe, and started the van.
“Put that out, Joe. We aren’t driving with the window down all night.”
He rolled his eyes but complied, mashing it into the ash tray sitting on the console between them.
“Everybody ready?” Andy asked, and everyone replied with quiet agreement.
Around 20 minutes into the drive, Patrick fell asleep. He laid his head on Pete’s shoulder, still sound asleep.
Pete shifted sideways in his seat and wrapped his arms around patrick’s waist.
He slowly took Patrick’s hat off, trying not to wake him up.
Patrick almost never takes off his hats, so it was rare for Pete to play with his hair. He brought one of his hands up to his head and ran his hands through his ginger blonde, still damp hair.
Patrick burrowed his face into Pete’s chest, and Pete gently scratched at his scalp.
“So pretty…” He completely forgot he was in the van with Andy and Joe until Joe asked “Hmm? Did you say something, Pete?”
He quickly shook his head and continued twirling Patrick’s bangs through his fingers. His hands travelled down to the side of his face and smoothed out his messy sideburns.
He thought about when he kissed Patrick, and how his long hair sometimes got in the way of kissing his plump cheeks.
He put his hands on Patrick’s lower back, and slightly lifted his ratty thrift store shirt to rub his back under his shirt.
His other hand was still focused on his hair, twirling his stray hairs through his fingers.
He rested his head on Patrick’s shoulder and inhaled his natural scent.
He didn’t even know how much time passed until Patrick woke up, with lines pressed into his face from Pete’s zipper on his jacket.
“Thank god you woke up, me and Joe were about to barf when Pete started playing with your hair.” Andy called into the back seat.
