Chapter 1: Prologue
Pov Evan
Evan couldn't believe her eyes, she was about to witness a fratricidal fight between vampires. A few minutes earlier a woman, who she barely knew, had ordered a giant wolf to carry her dearest friend to safety. She watched the vampires study each other for a few minutes. She didn't want them to fight. She didn't understand the reason for the conflict, she didn't understand any kind of war.
-Wars, all wars, are senseless, they are fought only for power-, she thought-
She turned his gaze to the army on his right; the only members she knew were the Cullens, but only by sight.
Her face shifted to the side and she looked more closely at the other group. She recognized three of them. She had never seen them in person, but only in drawings contained in the journal of Dr. Frankenstein. Nickname given to the man by her family.
“Please, please don’t do they, please don’t.” Her voice came out in whispers. Big tears began to roll down her cheeks.
The first to fall was Doctor Cullen, killed by one of the men he recognized. Then it was turn a young vampire. One by one, members of both armies began to fall.
“Why, why”
Evan saw many severed heads and burned bodies, but what made her feel sick was the sadism of the group that seemed to triumph. They enjoyed the suffering of others.
“You how can you be so cruel… how.” Evan couldn’t believe to all that horror and evil.
“ENOUGH”, She screamed.
Pov Mike
Mike was anxious, there was a strange scent in the air. He heard voices, at first distant, then gradually closer.
He went around the whole house, wanting to make sure nobody family was out there house. He found everyone except Evan.
He left a note that said ‘I’ll be right back soon’ and placed it next to Dr. Frankenstein’s diary.
Worried, he tried to reach the highest point of Forks. He loved going there. He could see the whole city and the forest.
He looked toward the horizon. He saw people approaching. They were all dressed in black.
He looked even more carefully and a second, more diverse group of people appeared.
One last look and he noticed a small figure among the snow and green trees, Evan.
He jumped down and ran to where the girl was, narrowly avoiding the wolf, the little girl who rode the wolf, and the vampire who was chasing them.
“DON’T DO THAT, DON’T USE YOUR POWER LITTLE SISTER,” the brother shouted.
Pov Sabrina and Annie
Two girls ran down the stairs laughing. They bumped into a small table with an old diary on it and a note that said ‘I’ll be right back soon’. The handwriting was Mike’s.
Sabrina picked up the little paper and sniffed it. She could smell the adrenaline. They looked at each other for a few seconds.
They began sniffing the air for tracks. They followed Mike's entire route, from the highest point in Forks, all the way to the woods.
They met the little girl riding the wolf and greeted her.
They reached the exact spot where Evan and Mike were.
Annie watched the scene carefully, turned around and said in a faint voice
“If you want, I’ll intervene.”
Pov Didyme
Didyme entered the living room. She was looking for Mike. She was worried, because she had seen her son tense as a violin string.
She sees a worn notebook on the table. She opens it and kisses and caresses one of the figures drawn. She thinks back to all the beautiful things she has experienced with the man depicted in the pages of the diary. The father of her son. But she also thinks back to the experiments and tortures her children were subjected to due to the sadism of Doctor Frankenstein. An ancient and cruel vampire, more cunning and poisonous than the Volturi themselves.
But she can't help but remember that if it weren't for that beast she wouldn't have Mike, her beloved Mike. So similar to his father, Marcus of Volterra.
She notices her son's note, goes out and smells a familiar smell.
Terrified she runs and collides with a wolf and little Renesmee, who the animal carries on its back.
She arrives too late, Evan has already used her power.
Three figures dressed in black look at her in astonishment.
“Marcus,” she says in a small voice, and then “RUN AWAYS, THE VOLTURI MUST NOT CATCH YOU.” She shouted.
Pov Aro
The Volturi led by the elders were ready to massacre that small group of rebels.
Alec turns for a moment, he feels the presence of others. Edward does the same.
Jasper and Alice approach, they are captured. Bella saves her daughter.
Dr. Cullen attacks Aro, but is killed by the latter. The first victim of the Volturi's fury.
Many vampires and werewolves die. While fighting Alec still feels the presence of other vampires different from them and from those they are facing.
The elders are overwhelmed and killed, as are the twins. At that precise moment a scream and a word tear the air and a wave of energy overwhelms the two armies.
Aro a little dazed gets up, as do the others fallen in battle. The fight is momentarily suspended.
Doctor Cullen and Jasper return to their ranks, along with Alice. They are all surprised and scared.
Alec glimpses a female figure through the trees. The girl’s eyes change from bright red to light blue gray. She is frightened by the way Alec looks at her, as if a force is pulling the boy towards her. She is also afraid of the force that is pulling her to him.
Didyme arrives and the elders don’t believe their eyes.
Aro approaches her and takes her hands. The vampire’s eyes widen in surprise.
“I have a daughter? And she’s here.” Grinning, he turns to the boys.
Pov Alice
Thanks to Alice's premonition, the Cullens avoid a fratricidal clash.
Bella and Edward introduce little Renesmee to Aro. Everything seems to be going well, but Alice is worried.
In her vision, new vampires appeared, one of them she knows very well. She feels that they are nearby. Alec also senses something.
Didyme also arrives, but she has time to hide.
The Volturi decide to leave, but first they kill Irina.
Didyme stops Evan from using his power to save her. She will have to wait until everyone is gone.
Only the Cullens and the Denali clan remain, but strangely what remains of Irina's body disappears. Alice looks around and after a while she sees a staggering figure approaching. Irina.
“It was them." Alice looks at her family. "There are other vampires in Forks and one of them we know well... We thought we knew him”.
Edward looks curiously at his sister.

Chapter 2: New Vampires?
Evan, Mike, Sabrina, Annie, and Didyme watched the scene secretly as Irina approached her sisters. Edward turned toward the tree where the new ones were hiding, according to Alice’s vision. He didn’t understand why, but he couldn’t read anyone’s mind at that moment. The wind changed direction, carrying their scent to the Cullens and Denali. Edward began to run toward them.
“Edward,” Bella called.
“I’m going with him,” Emmett said.
The new ones jumped from branch to branch. They were fast and agile, much more than they. Finally they stopped near a cliff. Edward and Emmett they arrived a quarter of an hour later.
“So marshmallow you are reality a vampire,” Emmett scoffed your.
“How long have you been one vampire Mike,” Edward asked firmly.
“Much longer than you,” Mike replied, smiling.
At that moment, some sun rays peeked out from behind the cloud cover.
The skin of the vegetarian vampires glowed, but not that of the new ones.
Edward and Emmett watched them with curiosity and apprehension. It was then that Edward noticed their eyes. They were not red, or even gold… their irises were human. Except for Mike’s. The color was a beautiful crimson red and they were slightly dilated.
Emmett prepared to charge, but stopped when a young woman approached. Edward knew her. It was Sabrina, a nurse who worked with his father. The boy was the only one, aside from the doctor and his wife, who knew the girl.
“Sabrina!!!”, Edward said in amazement, “What are you all really? Why doesn’t your skin glow when it comes into contact with the sun’s rays, why do your irises look so human? I know for a fact that you don’t wear contact lenses… and you’re not even hybrids, you smell different”.
Sabrina didn't say anything, she looked at the boy and suddenly the color of her eyes changed. It became gold, and her irises widened a little.
"Edward and Emmett go back to your loved family ones and forget," the girl whispered.
Edward and Emmett went back. Bella ran to them.
"Did you find them?" she said worriedly.
"Found? Who?" they answered in chorus.
"Edward, Emmett what's wrong with you," the girl asked worriedly.
“Honey, are you okay?” Edward caressed Bella’s cheek.
Emmett looked at his family and saw Irina.
“Irina?” he said, “But wasn’t she dead?”
Carlisle approached his children.
“What’s wrong with them?” Bella asked worriedly.
“I don’t know Bella, they don’t seem to remember anything anymore.”
“Carlisle,” one of the girl Denali called. "Irina is hungry, she needs to eat something, but she can’t stand up to hunt.”
“Let’s take her home,” the doctor said.
The Cullen family returned to their home. With them the Denali Clan.
Tanya, Kate and Carmen supported Irina, still weak and completely disoriented. Her eyes were black and ringed by purple spots. Whoever had brought her back to life had also taken care to cover her nakedness. The vampire was wearing a banal gray coat of boiled wool. An old grandfather's model, but well kept. The fabric was soaked in perfume. The fragrance smelled of wood and moss. It reminded of the scent of the forest. Carlisle was sure he had already smelled that perfume.
They sat in the living room except for Doctor Cullen, he retired with Irina to his office. The Cullen house had 3 rooms that served as office: one for Carlisle, one for Esme who practiced the profession of architect and the last one for the boys, but since they preferred their own rooms, this last one had been used as a recreation room.
“The girls are preparing something to eat for you.”
“Thank you,” Irina whispered.
The bell rang and Alice opened the door, but there was no one there. On the doorstep, someone had left two dark blue glass bottles and a note:
*Contains pig’s blood. That should be enough to feed your friend*
Alice took the contents to her father. She knocked gently before entering the study, and with the same delicacy, she placed the bottles on an antique table made of fine walnut from the early 1900s. The piece of furniture served as a desk. The girl handed over the note and withdrew. The man looked suspiciously at the bottles, opened one and smelled the smell that emanated from the contents.
“Pig’s blood,” he said.
Dr. Cullen took one of the bottles and handed it to Irina. She drank it in one gulp. The man remembered that before the murder her eyes were golden. He deduced that the ‘resurrection’ it had to be very debilitating for their kind.
“Are you feeling better?” he asked.
Irina smiled and nodded.
“Do you have any memories?”
“My limbs, being torn apart… and then a woman, beautiful, with ebony black hair and big, golden eyes… she reassured me. I was fine, I was strangely happy… she smelled: berries. Strange, I have no memory of the fire. I know for a fact that when we are dismembered, we still feel the fire burning what remains of the body.”
The man took the piece of paper Alice had handed. The note had the scent of freshly cut grass. A fresh and pungent scent.
“Berries, are you sure?”
“Yes, she asked to keep the story a secret. There was another girl there, just as beautiful, she smelled of wood and moss… she said -mommy are you sure you don’t want me to use my gift? Yes honey, even though I told at the girl Denali to keep it a secret. The truth is that I would like you to be friends with them… we can’t mommy, us we are too differents from them, they would never accept us… but two of them, my honey, are your biological parents-”.
Carlisle listened very carefully
“Biological parents, you are sure?” Carlisle asked apprehensively.
“Yes, the girl who called the other woman mommy, she lowered her head and started to cry… she was crying Carlisle, we vampires can’t do that… and she had brown eyes. I’m sure she didn’t wear contacts. The other woman’s eyes were gold. One of them is a vegetarian like us.”
Carlisle left the study with Irina, he asked Esme to lend her something to wear while he sat down on the couch to discuss, with the rest of the family and from friends, what to do about it.
oOo
“Forgive me Esme for the bad I put you and you all through.”
“It’s okay, I know you didn’t mean to hurt anyone.”
“No, that’s not true Esme. When I saw the baby I thought of my mother, killed by the Volturi because she created an immortal child. I was so angry with you and then the whole Laurent thing”
“Did you feel like I and us was making fun of you?”
“Yes, I was stupid.”
Esme smiled softly.
“The coat is horrible, a very old model, but at least it doesn’t smell of mold or mothballs and it seems well-kept", Esme said
“The woman I saw was wearing a more modern one, I don’t think this is hers, also because she was petite and not very tall. The other woman wasn’t wearing any overcoat. But I think the coat is hers. It had the same perfume: moss and wood", Irina replied.
oOo
“Vegetarian,” are you sure?” one of the Denali said.
“This your sister’s description of one of the vampires she met. The other one I think is a hybrid like Renesmee, but I’m not sure. They look so different from her.”
“Then they’re not dangerous.”
“I don’t know yet, Alice. The vegetarian vampire wanted her children to be friends with us. One thing is for sure, Irina wasn’t touched by the fire. I don’t know how they managed to save the girl without being noticed. I think there’s someone among them who can manipulate minds. The same person who erased Edward and Emmett’s minds.”

Chapter 3: secrets
Renesmee watched the whole scene, nestled in her mother's arms. She looked at her golden ring with a small blood-red stone. Then she looked at Jacob. He didn't remember anything from that meeting, his mind had been erased.
She had met the new ones during a race with Jacob. He was in wolf form. She was in the lead, the boy always let her win. The little girl was reaching the edge of the woods when she saw a stray dog. The dog was malnourished, so thin that you could see his bones. Tormented by scabies and with a bad infection in his mouth and eyes. She was about to touch him when a crystalline voice called her.
“Don’t hurt that poor creature. He already suffered so much,” said a young and beautiful girl of 17/18.
Renesmee looked at the girl curiously
“Hi, my name is Annie and the girl on the branch is my sister Sabrina.”
The little girl looked up and saw a young woman in her twenties. She was as beautiful as her sister, but with more pronounced features. She reminded the little girl of Esme. Nessie began to sniff the air. The younger of the two smelled of sea water, while the other smelled of wood and moss.
-How good their scents are- thought the little girl.
“If you want I can tell you where to find blood to feed you without killing any creatures,” continued Annie.
At that moment Jacob arrived. He stopped for a moment, showed his teeth and attacked the two girls. The wolf boy had realized that they were not human.
The women were faster than him, they took the little girl and the dog and headed towards the city of Forks.
Jake was forced to stop, he could not go to the city with his wolf form. He went back to ask for help.
In the meantime the girls had managed to reach the roof of Forks High School, the high school attended by Annie and her brother and sisters.
“Don’t worry, I don’t think that weird Moon Child can jump that high, he couldn’t even keep up with us,” Annie said.
“He’s my friend, he’s not a werewolf, he’s a shapeshifter.”
“Oh, was he created by Dr. Frankenstein too?” Annie asked.
“Who is Dr. Frankenstein?” the little girl asked.
“A horrible pseudo-mad scientist vampire with a thing for the most obscene experiments…”
“No, Annie, she’s just a little girl,” Sabrina said.
Renesmee looked at both of them. She could tell they were hiding something. She was small but very smart. She touched Sabrina's cheek to show the her family, the wolves. Sabrina gasped, her irises turned gold and dilated slightly.
"Girls, what's going on?" Annie asked worriedly.
Sabrina was shocked. She had had a mental connection with the little girl. Renesmee began to cry and hugged the more big lass.
“Don’t worry, soon you won’t remember anything…”
“No, I don’t want to forget,” Nessie replied
“You’re so small, too small for something so big.”
“Please, I don’t want to forget, I don’t want to forget you… please,” the little girl begged, crying.
Sabrina was about to use her gift when Renesmee screamed "NOOOO, I don’t want to".
The girls picked up the little girl and carried her back. They reached the wolf boy without any difficulty and positioned themselves in front of him.
“Go back calm to the Cullens and forget about our meeting,” said Sabrina, “Take this ring, it’s special. It will fit perfectly on your fingers. It will inhibit vampire powers.”
“Did Mike create it?” Nessie asked
“Yes, our brother is a genius, but unfortunately at school he is forced to act the part of the average boy,” Annie replied amused.
“Thank you. I would like to come visit you… can I?”, asked the little Cullen shyly.
“Of course, you will meet Evan, Bree, Jake, Mike, Jenna, Dydime,” Annie said cheerfully.
“Now go little one and please don’t say anything,” Sabrina urged.
“I promise I won’t use my power, bye… Annie?”
“Yes!”
“Why do you call my father Edward sandwich face Cullen?”
“Because he reminds me of a cheese sandwich,” the girl replied.
oOo
Renesmee touched the ring again and mentally said: -Dad I know who I am, dad I know them, dad they are my friends-
She was smiling, the ring was doing its job very well.
Hi, in my mind Annie looks like actress Shenae Grimes, while Sabrina looks like the actress Sabrina Seara.

Chapter 4: Night Shift
Renesmee knew they weren’t dangerous, but she feared for their lives. They were so different from them, too different. And none of her family would like their kinship. Except maybe Sabrina and little Jake.
She was torn between telling them the truth, or leaving everything as it was. She could ask Sabrina to use her power and make them forget everything, but the truth was that she wanted her family to know everything. She wanted them to be friends with them and vice versa. She sighed.
“Is everything okay, honey?”
“Yes, Mom, everything’s okay… What if they weren’t dangerous?”
“What, excuse me?” Bella asked.
“What if they weren’t dangerous? They saved Irina and from Alice’s vision it seems like one of them didn’t want a fratricidal war. I mean, maybe they’re good, maybe…”
Bella looked at her daughter in surprise.
“Jake, can you take her to her room please?”
“Why?” the little girl asked.
“It’s not something a little girl can hear,” her mother replied.
“Yes I can,” the little girl said resentfully.
Everyone looked at Nessie in stupor.
“Jake, can you take her to her room please?”
“Why?” the little girl asked.
“It’s not something a little girl can hear,” her mother replied.
“Yes I can,” the little girl said resentfully.
Everyone looked at Nessie in stupor.
“Please don’t send me away. You introduced me to the Volturi. You thinks that this is worse?”
“Honey, we don’t know who we’re dealing with. They’re not vampires, and even hybrids.”
“Your mother is right Renesmee. Even I can’t understand how she could have had a vision when they’re not like us,” Alice said.
“Maybe it’s because they’re part vampire or maybe it’s because you have had a connection with Sabrina…”
“As excuse?” Edward asked alarmed.
The little girl put hands on mouth. She had said something too much.
“Do you know who they are?” Edward asked angrily.
The little girl began to cry.
“Do you know who they are?” her father urged.
“Stop it, Edward, you’re scaring our daughter.”
“Let’s all calm down. My darling, do you know them?” Carlisle asked softly.
The little girl nodded. Everyone was speechless.
“Why didn’t you say anything?” grandfather asked.
“I couldn’t, I was afraid you would hurt them. They are my friends.”
“Honey, they are dangerous, they manipulate people’s minds, they did the same thing to me, they made me believe that one of our classmates was one of them…”
Alice didn’t finish her sentence.
“Mike is one of them, aunt. And no, they are not dangerous.”
Carlisle decided to take the little girl with him to talk to her in private.
“Then honey tell me everything.”
“I have met two of them in the woods. Jacob was with me too, but he doesn’t remember anything about the meeting. Sabrina manipulated his mind. None of them are evil, in fact they are better than us. They found a way to feed themselves without killing humans or animals.”
“How?”, Carlisle asked curiously.
“They take blood from the Forks Meat Consortium… sometimes.”
“Sometimes?”, Dr. Cullen pressed softly.
“When is needed they donate their blood to Bree and Didyme.”
Carlisle looked at the little girl in amazement. Bree and Didyme were names he had heard before.
“How they donate?”
“Yes, their blood regenerates and when Bree and Didyme don’t have anything to eat, they think about it. they lacerate their wrists and…”
The little girl couldn’t finish her sentence.
“Honey, they might have manipulated your mind and…”
“No, Grandpa. They didn’t. They’re not monsters, even if they think they are.”
Renesmee burst into tears. Bella heard her and went to her daughter.
“Carlisle!”
“It’s okay, Bella. It's just all so absurd. My shift at the hospital starts soon. I have to get ready. Don’t ask the little girl any questions right now. I have to check on something first.”
oOo
“Good evening Dr. Cullen”
“Good evening Inspector Swan, did something happen?”
“A small accident, a boy fell off his motorbike. Maybe he caught something.”
“I understand. Good evening Mrs. Miller, has Nurse Nolan arrived yet?”
“Yes, she’s taking care of a boy who fell off a motorbike.”
-Good, she’s here- thought the doctor.
“Good evening Sabrina.”
“Good evening Dr.…”
Sabrina didn’t finish her sentence. Her eyes began to water.
“Sabrina!” Dr. Cullen said in alarm.
“It’s all right, doctor, it’s just a pollen allergy. I apologize, I need to do some tests at the boy.”
Carlisle immediately realized that she was lying. It was the middle of winter. The doctor continued to watch the woman.
“Don’t worry, I’m faster than the pain,” she said to the young man.
“I hate needles and blood,” the boy said.
“Yeah, me too,” the woman replied. “Done.”
“Wow, I didn’t feel anything. She is really good.”
“Thank you.”
“Nurse, why the tests?”
“I think you know.”
“My parents?”
“You’re a minor, I have to tell your parents.”
The boy went out. Sabrina stopped for a moment. She was about to start crying again. She took a deep breath. Carlisle's eyes widened. She was breathing. He also realized that she had a heart, not a still one like his, but a living heart, beating.
-What are you really Sabrina, a hybrid different from Renesmee, a vampire... an evolution of it- he thought.
Sabrina could barely hold back her tears. She began to carefully observe the bottle with the blood she had just drawn. Her irises dilated slightly. Carlisle didn't stop looking at her secretly. She knew it.
“Good evening Mrs. Davis. This is Nurse Nolan. Your son is here in the hospital, he had an accident… no, fortunately it is not serious, but I must inform you that the boy has used a narcotic substance: marijuana.”
After the call, the nurse threw the blood in the sink. She cleaned everything up and went out to lock herself in one of the hospital offices. She cried her eyes out. Carlisle could hear her, but he didn't know what to do. Luckily, apart from the young man, there was no emergency. The patients were sleeping peacefully. The girl stayed in the small room for over an hour. When she came out, he tried to talk to her.
"Sabrina, we need to talk," the man said softly.
"I can't, farewell Dr. Cullen."
Sabrina ran out of the hospital at an abnormal speed. Carlisle was shocked, the girl was faster than a normal vampire.
oOo
“What happened Sabrina,” her brother asked.
“Oh Mike I’m so sorry, I ruined everything. They know… I didn’t have the courage to manipulate my fa… Dr. Cullen’s mind.”
The young man hugged his sister.
“It’s okay, my sister. This isn’t the first time we’ve move.”
As I said in the first chapter, this story is old and published on EFP (italian site) always with the same title: Gli eredi di Volterra. At that time my credentials were different (UffaUffaUffa), but I lost them.
If someone wants to read the old version (this one is different, slightly different… it depends on the point of view) you can find it there. Happy reading

Chapter 5: Friends or Foes!!!
Carlisle returned home around 7:00 the following morning. When he arrived he saw that everyone was still there except Renesmee and Jacob.Edward, the day before, had read his father's mind.
"Dad! So it's true, she's one of them," Edward asked.
"Yes. But there's something I'm missing. I think Renesmee is right when she says, they're not dangerous."
"We can't be sure."
Carlisle looked at his son.
“Renesmee?”
“She’s still asleep. Do you really think they’re some sort of evolution of our race?” Said Edward
“Yes, this theory explains a lot, like their mutation and how they adapt to a life more similar that to humans than ours, their hyper-developed senses, their speed… their powers. I know of vampires who can manipulate other people’s minds, but here there is also a she-vampire who can regenerate life, resurrecting the dead.”
“Carlisle?”
“Yes, Bella!”
“I’d like to go see Mike’s father, maybe he can tell me something.”
“I think that’s a good idea, Bella. Let me know when Renesmee wakes up, I need to talk to her again.”
Carlisle entered his study.
oOo
“Good morning Mr. Newton,” Bella said.
“Good morning dear, do you need anything? You’ll find everything you need here…”
“No Mr. Newton,” Bella interrupted, “I just need to talk to your son.”
“I’ll call him right away… Andrew?”
“Yes sir.”
“This girl needs you.”
“Tell me miss.”
“No Mr. Newton I was talking about Mike.”
“Mike? I don’t have a son with that name. Andrew is my right-hand man, he’s like a son to me.”
Bella was taken aback. Suddenly she smelled a strong scent of wood and moss and cut grass.
-they have been here and they erased the man's memory-, the girl thought.
“Yes, I understand, Andrew, right?”
“Yes, Miss.”
“Do you remember a boy named Mike?”
“No, Miss.”
“I apologize, Mr. Newton, the boy I spoke to told me he was your son.”
“Don't worry, dear.”
Bella left the store and decided to talk to someone at the school, but no one remembered Mike. She also went to the hospital. Sabrina had erased the memory of her from the staff's minds.
She returned home and reported what she had found out.
“Renesmee?”, the woman asked.
“She’s in the study with Carlisle along with Jacob,” Edward replied
Bella knocked lightly on the study door.
“Come in,” said Dr. Cullen.
The girl entered with Edward.
“What did you find out?”
“Nothing, the girl who calls herself Sabrina has erased the minds of everyone who knows them. I think it was her. From what little my daughter said, I think she is the one who can manipulate the mind… But I don’t understand why she didn’t erase your memory Carlisle.”
Edward looked at his daughter. The little girl when he was near immediately touched the ring.
“Nessie who gave you that ring?”
The little girl bit her lips.
“It was them, I that’s right honey.”
The little girl nodded.
“Yes, it’s a very special ring, because it inhibits the power of other vampires. Mike created the ring. He’s brilliant.”
“Mike?”, Edward asked incredulously.
“Yes, her sister Annie told me that he pretends to be a student and an average boy so as not to get too much attention. She says that his genius is inherited from his wolf side.”
“Wolf?”, Edward, Bella, Jacob and Carlisle said in chorus.
The little girl bit her lips.
“So they’re hybrids,” Dr. Cullen said thoughtfully.
“Yes and no, Grandpa, it’s a long story. It’s not easy to talk about this.”
“How long have you known them?” Carlisle asked softly.
“For a while. I used to go visit them when I was alone with Jacob… Dad!!!.”
“You idiot, you left my daughter with those freaks of nature?”
“STOP IT,” Renesmee shouted. The little girl began to cry. “Jake doesn’t know anything, I’ve always lied to and they’re not monsters… YOU ARE,” screamed Nessie through tears
“Everyone go out,” Carlisle said calmly. “I'll remain with her”
The boys left, not without casting worrying glances at the little girl.
“You come on honey and tell me everything you know.” Carlisle gently stroked his granddaughter’s head.
The little girl calmed down and said, “It’s not that simple, Grandpa… I… I… I’ll take you to them.”
oOo
“What did those things do to our daughter? She was never aggressive towards us,” Bella said worriedly.
Emmett instead smiling. A new enemy to face, and to defeat.
There is a reason why Mike was chosen. The mysterious mystery will be revealed in the next chapter.

Chapter 6: Home invasion
“No, Carlisle it is excluding. You can’t go alone, it’s too dangerous.”
Edward was furious.
“Try to understand, we need to find out if they are as dangerous as we think, or not as your daughter says.”
“No, and Renesmee is just a child, she can’t understand… she’s too young.”
“Even though I’m young, I can understand, in fact I’m angry with you because you made me believe things that turned out to be wrong.”
“What are you talking about?” Bella asked worriedly. She had never seen her daughter so determined.
Renesmee didn’t answer. She just pursed her lips together. She had to be careful what she said, she didn’t want to get her new friends in trouble, and she didn’t want to get her into trouble. At the time, she couldn’t stand that girl. Edward knew it and laughing about it. She resentment was very close to hatred until she learned the truth. Sabrina told him this unknowingly with a brain connection. She had changed towards her since then and her family wasn’t so perfect in her eyes anymore.
“Take off that ring,” Edward ordered his daughter.
“No,” the little girl said sharply.
Edward took a few steps in her direction, but Carlisle stopped him.
“No, my boy, I think it’s best to find out the truth and I’ll do it my way,” the doctor said.
“Okay, but you’re not going alone, I coming…”
“No, I'll will go with Dr. Cullen. I owe my life to them,” Irina said.
The sisters Denali didn’t agree and neither did Edward and Emmett. Jasper walked over to his brothers and whispered something in their ears.
“Okay, go ahead, but be careful.” Edward turned to Jasper and whispered, “Good idea.”
Jasper smiled. Jacob took a few steps toward the doctor.
“No, boy, you’re not coming. I’m sure nothing bad will happen.”
oOo
The trio arrived at their destination around 10:00. The sun was shining high in the sky, but since it was still the middle of winter they managed to hide their ‘secret’ under heavy woolen clothing and long hooded jackets. The building where the newcomers were staying was located on the outskirts of Forks in the industrial area. It was a rather large building, about 500 square meters, but nondescript. The outside walls were gray and weathered. A faded sign outside the main door told them it was a long-abandoned printing house. The land where the factory was located was also in very bad shape. Rensmee said they kept it that way on purpose, so as not to attract attention, but the inside was really nice.
Since the doorbell was half destroyed, Dr. Cullen had to knock several times, but the only presence that could be heard coming from inside was that of a dog barking furiously.
“Scabies!”
Hearing Renesmee’s little voice, the old dog changed tone.
“I don’t think they’re home, Dr. Cullen,” Irina said.
Carlisle was distracted, looking for a way in. It wasn't worthy of him, he knew it well, but he wanted to understand what kind of clan were. The granddaughter understood what he wanted to do...
"It's not a good thing, grandpa."
"Yes, I know, my darling."
"But you'll do it the same, right?"
Carlisle smiled sweetly, picked up the little girl and jumped onto the roof of the building. Irina did the same.
Several skylights towered above and overlooked the open space, the bedrooms and bathrooms. The vampire noticed that the roof was in the same condition as the outside walls, but the glass of the skylights was clean.
On the north side of the building was a garden well hidden by the walls of the building. Compared to the rest of the house it was well kept. The plants were distributed vertically on the walls and covered for the winter frost. The vases were made of plexiglass hydraulic pipes with a nice shade of red that contrasted sharply with the green of the plants. The furniture was made of pallets and industrial reels. These too were covered like the plants.
“Annie calls it the secret garden,” said the little girl.
A large glass wall separated the outside from the inside. Carlisle easily opened the glass door.
“Aren’t they afraid that someone might come in?” Irina asked, puzzled.
“The walls that hide the garden are too high to climb over, and the external structure is poorly maintained to make it seem like there’s no one inside. Not to mention that no one would think that there are two hidden entrances. The old, battered front door is just a decoy,” the little girl replied.
“But a nomadic vampire could come in,” Irina pressed.
“It happened. They took them in and fed them. But it’s strange, there’s always someone in the house… no, they can’t have left without saying goodbye me.”
Renesmee began to cry and both Dr. Cullen and Irina tried to comfort the little girl.
“Maybe it’s not like that, maybe they just went out and will come back soon…”, Irina said.
“Yes, they wouldn’t have left Scabies only”, Renesmee replied.
When they entered, their sense of smell was tickled by different smells: not only of the ‘new’ ones. The room smelled clean, warm bread and freshly baked pastries. Scabies jumped on the little girl who returned the welcome with equal joy.
Renesmee took off her shoes.
“They do it like the Japanese so the floor is preserved better and gets less dirty”.
The floor was made of concrete and several faded stains of color decorated it and also showed the first use of the building.
To the right of the window was the kitchen. The furniture was made from old iron furniture from the printing house. The shelves were topped with light wood strips. On the free wall near the glass door, there were several wooden wine crates, which served as a bookcase. The only old ‘thing’ in the room was a beautiful piece of furniture from the 1800s that almost certainly came from a butcher’s shop and was used as a cutting board. Other vintage objects decorated that part of the house: several coffee grinders, a Japanese manual ice crusher and an English manual slicer... The hob was modern and seemed to have come from a professional kitchen, as were the double sinks and the microwave oven. The vampire approached the refrigerators. One had a transparent door and the man noticed that ‘normal’ foods were stored inside; the other was made of steel. When he opened it he found some hospital containers: they contained blood.
Irina was shocked. Carlisle, on the other hand, smiling.
The kitchen opened directly onto the dining room and the living area. These three rooms were part of a single large open space that was very bright thanks to the enormous window and the various skylights on the roof. The high ceilings had allowed for the creation of a mezzanine area. The structure was made of iron and the space was used as a library. The old wooden pharmacy cabinet fit in nicely with the metal structure.
The living area was furnished with various seats. The two most important ones had been made from old wooden and wrought iron benches and completed with thin mattresses and cushions of different colors, but everything was perfectly balanced. In the middle, a wooden top and four industrial trolley wheel served as a coffee table. While tires were scattered here and there, which, once rearranged, had become designer poufs. Even the light points in the house had been created with recycled material: the floor lamps had been made from old hairdresser's helmets.
The chairs around the dining table that belonged to the building were made of walnut wood, but each one had a different shape and color. On the table top there was a very particular lens, a sheet of metal and an old notebook with a black cover.
The whole environment was harmonious and full of personality. The recycled material integrated perfectly with the few ancient elements.
-Esme will go crazy for all this- thought Carlisle.
Doctor Cullen went up the stairs to reach the library. The bookcase was well stocked: art, fiction... he noticed many volumes in the original language.
-They are cultured and cosmopolitan, very good- thought the man
He was about to reach the sleeping area, when they heard a noise. One of them was entering.
A blond boy with blue eyes and delicate features made his appearance: Mike ex Newton. He stopped for a moment and breathed deeply, he smelled a familiar smell...
“This is home invasion Dr. Cullen”.
oOo
Aro was thinking of a way to have most of the vampires, friends of the Cullens, in his guard. Marcus had reported everything he had been able to perceive from the Cullens' witnesses. The lord of the Italian coven had been impressed by the shapeshifting she-wolf. The only one of her kind. The only one, rarer even than Renesmee. He knew that Marcus had been somehow fascinated by that creature, he said there was something special, but he couldn't quite figure out what. One thing he was sure of, whatever his brother had perceived in the female wolf, had moved him so much that the venom had reached his tear ducts. Marcus' eyes were shining. He had to have her.
-How can I catch a female wolf- he thought.
“Master?”
“Yes Alec?”, Aro answered distractedly.
“During our meeting with the Cullens… well I saw something strange”
“Strange you said!”, Aro said carefully.
“Yes there were other people, maybe other vampires, but I’m not sure. Their eyes were different, they were human. They saw our meeting with the Carlisle clan… Wait master there was also a vegetarian vampire, like the Cullens and the Denali.
“Interesting”. Aro approached the boy and took his hand. He carefully scanned Alec’s memory.
“Very interesting… Didyme?”
At that name Marcus jumped.
“Mmmmm! Now I understand why you returned back Alec. You did well. But I can’t understand why Edward and Emmett started chasing those people. Mmmmm! Demetri I have a task for you”.
I chose Mike Newton… because that he reminds me of Marcus. Alec didn't see Irina.

For Leah fans, you still have to be patient. I focused on the hybrids first. But there is a small mention in the previous chapters. Even in this chapter, she is mentioned without being named. Please be patient. Thank you.
Here is what I think of the Cullens, the werewolves and the elders. They are not nice things, you have been warned.
Chapter 7: Fairy Tale Monsters Exist
“This is trespassing, Doctor Cullen,” said an altered, but also ironic Mike Newton.
“But if you are here, it means you know our secret. Unfortunately, you will not leave this house alive. Unless you solemnly swear that you will keep our secret, even from your family. But they already know, is that right, Doctor?”, continued the boy.
Mike was about to approach, when three boys broke the glass to get in and surrounded Mike.
“What are you guys doing here?,” Carlisle said alarmed.
“Sorry Dad, but we couldn’t leave you alone with them,” Edward replied.
“Very good marshmallow, ready to hurt yourself badly?” Emmett chuckled.
“I no, and you Big Jim?” Mike replied ironically.
Emmett lunged at the blond boy. Mike was not intimidated by the size of his opponent and with a skillful move he detached the boy's head from the rest of his body.
Edward and Jasper were in disbelief. Mike was very strong. They also attacked, but... they remained paralyzed.
Carlisle could not believe what he had just seen: Emmett Ko and his other children motionless, as if they were prisoners of an invisible force that inhibited their movements.
Renesmee was crying her eyes out, “You have ruined everything, everything.”
Emmett managed to reach his head and put it back on his neck, he was about to attack again when he noticed Edward and Jasper in a strange position.
“What did you do marshmallow,” the vampire said angrily.
“I didn’t do anything,” Mike said smiling.
Emmett attacked the young man, but he too was blocked.
Carlisle’s eyes widened. His son was frozen like the other two… but he was in mid-air.
“Thank you Annie,” Mike smiled softly at his sister.
Dr. Cullen only now noticed that there were other people with Mike. He looked at Sabrina. The woman had a look of pain on her face. Carlisle was speechless, but the words came back when he saw four teenagers, a boy and three girl. One of them was familiar.
“Bree, Bree Tanner!!,” he exclaimed.
“Good morning doctor,” she replied.
Sabrina, Annie, and Didyme stepped forward to act as a shield and protect the youngest members of the family.
“Back to us, Doc. Like I said before, you’re not getting out of here alive, none of you are getting out of here alive,” Mike said.
“Mike, please, we have no ill intentions, just let me tell you something. Immortal children are outlaws.”
“You have an immortal child too,” the boy replied.
“It’s different, Mike, she’s…”
The doctor didn’t get to finish his sentence, because Mike stepped in front of him, knocked the vampire to have it at his height, and clamped his hand around the man’s throat.
“Because it’s different. Because for you Cullens, for the wolf boys, for the elders of the reservation it’s always different. You just can’t see the pain you give, that you create… the pain you leave, everything you take away,” I utter the last sentence in a bitter breath, to then become sharp again: “You are so small, closed in your world of petty and hypocritical perfection, of laws, legends and secrets that kill people inside. You disgust me. Even the Volturi and Dr. Frankenstein are better than you. At least they don’t pretend to be good, or worse, saints. They don’t play that part.”
Mike was furious, he squeezed the doctor's neck even more. He could feel doctor the white, hard skin like marble cracking slightly.
"Please Mike, let him go. You'll get into trouble," Rensmee said sobbing.
"Boy, look at me, my name is Irina, Irina Denali. You saved my life."
"What life," one of the girls said ironically: "You're dead!!"
"Mike, please," Carlisle begged.
"He's trying to break my arm, doctor?"
“Mike, let them go. Doctor Cullen, you must not follow us. you will never see each other again, nor hear of us,” Sabrina said bitterly.
Mike still did not let go of the vampire. Doctor Cullen noticed that the boy’s pupil was now the size of a pin. He was horrified. Sabrina began to cry.
“Honey,” Didyme said in alarm.
Mike turned to his sister, still holding the man’s throat.
“Sabrina,” he said, “Sabrina, what did you see?” he asked apprehensively.
“Mike, let him go… please,” the girl said, her voice broken by sobs.
Mike looked at Doctor Cullen again. The boy’s irises turned red and dilated slightly.
“Oh, and so, doctor, we horrify you. You haven’t seen the best yet, look.”
Mike's canines began to grow, as did his nails, which were now razor sharp. Carlisle flinched, afraid. Mike began to look at him amused.
"Are you afraid, Doctor? You're right to be afraid of us. We are like monsters in fairy tales, but unlike you and your friends from the reservation, we don't cause pain, we don't laugh at pain, we don't feed on it just because you think it makes you stronger and better."
A few solitary tears rolled down Mike's cheeks. Carlisle was afraid, but in that moment I felt a feeling similar to compassion. There was pain in the boy's words, in his gestures.
"My son, that's enough. Look at your sister, you're hurting her like this," Didyme said.
Mike bit his lips until they bled. The room began to smell even more. The scent of Mike smelled like freshly cut grass, fresh and pungent. He let go and threw the doctor up onto the mezzanine. Irina picked up Renesmee and was immediately next to the man. Mike walked over to Sabrina.
“I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to hurt you,” he said in a whisper.
“I know,” the girl replied.
“You have to erase their memories, all of them.”
“NOOO!!!,” Renesmee shouted, “You promised you wouldn’t erase my memory.”
“You didn’t keep your promise little girl,” Mike said.
“Yes, I did. I promised I wouldn’t use my power to show them how much I knew. I kept my promise.”
“You come stay with us, you’ll be fine,” the little girl continued.
“We can’t,” Sabrina said.
“Yes, you tell them the truth.”
“My children, it’s the best solution for you and for them,” Didyme said.
“No, Mom. Look at Bree. What do you think they’ll do to her,” Mike said.
The little girl clung to the arm of one of the girls she now that consired as one of his sisters.
“Go away, Doctor. Once we leave, his sons will be move again,” Mike said.
Carlisle jumped down from the loft area. He was holding his niece. He looked at all of them. He was nervous and worried. He was about to say something when the smaller boy started to fuss, scream, and say,
“Bad Doctor, Bad Doctor.”
Renesmee gasped and looked at her grandfather in fear.
“Damn… I already know I’ll regret the advice I’m about to give you: hide, doctor, hide your entire family. Also warn the wolves of the reservation, there’s something out there, something ancient and cruel,” Mike said.
In my very personal ranking, Leah is in first place, the Volturi in second, especially Demetri, in third place a tie for Alistair, Embry and Nahuel. The ranking of favorites of course. To tell the truth, I like these four paired with Leah.

Chapter 8: Dr. Frankenstein's Experiments
Carlisle returned home with his children. Emmett was furious. He had been beaten by Ken, Barbie's boyfriend.
"How did it go?"
"Bad," Emmett said rudely.
"Emmett, don't use that tone with your mother." The doctor scolded him.
"Sorry, Mom," he said embarrassed.
Bella had approached her daughter.
"Honey, it's okay, you look upset," she then turned to Edward: "What happened, why is my little girl like this. What did those monsters do to her?"
Renesmee hit her mother.
“Why do you always have to blame others? Why are you so mean? They are not monsters. I know them, I know them well.” Nessy began to cry again.
Bella looked at her daughter. The young vampire was in shock.
“Now let’s all calm down,” Carlisle said. “I’ve discovered something important. They are vegetarians like us and I don’t think they are dangerous.”
“But you’re not sure,” Edward exclaimed.
“No, it’s true I’m not sure, but there was something in Mike, in his words. Renesmee, he accused us, the packs and the Quileute elders of hurting and harming people. Why did he make those accusations, do you know?”
“Yes, I know, but I won’t tell you. You wouldn’t understand anyway. Sabrina says you are cloased in your world of false perfection and hypocrisy. She never understood why you couldn’t see her pain, her suffering and her inner beauty. And despite this, your daughter loves you immensely. Their compassion is greater than yours, grandpa and their capacity to love surpasses your, grandmother…
“You said daughter!”
Renesmee put her hands over her mouth. She had said too much.
Edward took Jasper aside. “She’s been manipulated, I’m sure of it. Let’s find them and make them pay.”
Jasper nodded.
“Are you plotting against them, Dad?”
“Honey, you’re not yourself right now. The one who takes over your mind and body is making you believe even that one of my sisters is involved.” saide Edward
“They’re not manipulating me. You need to read this, Grandpa.”
Renesmee handed Carlisle a worn old journal. The vampire settled into the chair and began to read.
I may be one of the oldest vampires in the world, even older than Amon, the undisputed lord of the Egyptian coven. I had heard of him, of his power. Of the fact that he was worshiped as a god. That's why I went to Egypt. After several failed experiments with humans and the creation of several monsters, I decided to change strategy. I decided to use supernatural creatures like those of my race and werewolves. Our eyes change color when we are hungry. And I wondered if that's where I should aim or rather inject.
With my power of mind manipulation I gained the favors of the Egyptian coven.
My intuition proved correct. By injecting the blood of the Children of the Moon into the iris, I managed to ensure that Kebi got pregnant and to complete her pregnancy. Every day a substantial dose divided into several daily portions.
The Cullens were in shock. That vampire had somehow managed to fulfill the dream of several women vampires. That of becoming mothers.
A beautiful baby girl was born. She looks like Amon, but has Kebi's expressions. Her hair and eyes are black, but her skin is white and marbled like that of European vampires. It probably depends on the blood I injected. The she-wolf had a beautiful snow-white coat. Her scent is also particular: it is a mix of orange blossoms and spices, so different from that of common vampires.
The child showed her gift almost immediately. When she cries her screams can destroy anything. For this reason I had to escape from the Egyptian coven. Her scream made me lose control of my power over them.
I have to feed her, but she doesn't seem to like blood. In the end I found out that she likes a mix of milk and blood.
My creature does nothing but amaze me. Her skin is as tough as ours, but it doesn’t shine, not even a little. She has a beating heart and blood in her veins. Poisonous blood. And it's the blood that smells of orange blossom and spice. She’s growing visibly, but she hasn’t become an adult. She’s stopped. She looks 15. The she-wolf was that age.
She has extraordinary control over her thirst. Now she no longer feeds on milk and blood, but only plasma. She chooses her victims carefully. Mostly old, dying, people on the way to sunset. She breaks their necks and then feeds. When I asked her why, she simply said that this way they don’t suffer. And when I said that she also had to feed on young lives, she answered with a firm no. ‘Before they die, they must live.’
“You see, they’re not dangerous. They’re not monsters like you think… like they think.”
None of the Cullens were sure what to say.
“Honey, were they all born that way?” Carlisle asked.
“No, Jake was human.”
“Was?”
Carlisle continued reading.
I went back to see the Egyptian coven, only to find that it was wiped out by another vampire coven. I guess the Romanian clan killed them. I saw Amon and Kebi again. The latter returned to normal. Now she is a vampire again unable to give life. I think I will go to Romania with my creature. There are many werewolves. Many experiments to do.
I arrived at a critical moment. The Romanians were attacked by a rival clan. This was not what we needed. I will have to look for other guinea pigs. Their rivals seem interesting.
I arrived in Italy, in Volterra. Aro was about to kill Didyme. I saved the woman just in time. All three have mates, I am sure that beautiful hybrids will be born.
“Didyme, I remember now. I saw a portrait of her when I was in Volterra in the Priori Palace. She is the woman Sabrina and Mike called mom,” Carlisle said shocked.
“Then they are members of their clan,” an angry Emmett echoed.
“No, Sabrina is not their daughter,” Renemsee said.
“Sabrina must be the daughter of that monster who created the other monsters,” Edward said.
“Stop calling them monsters,” Renesmee cried. Jacob tried to calm her down, but she didn’t want him near her. The boy growled slightly.
“Don't blame them Jake,” the little girl growled in turn.
Carlisle continued reading.
My second creature is a male. He resembles Marcus and has the expressions of his mother. He is blond and his eyes are blue. His skin is like that of common vampires, but it does not shine. Like his sister, he has a beating heart and blood in his veins. His scent is reminiscent of freshly cut grass.
Emmett was in disbelief like all the Cullens.
He grows visibly. He looks about 17/18 years old. He is very intelligent and resourceful. He certainly took this part from the Children of the Moon that I met. Despite the Volturi having given a merciless hunt to their race, this type of werewolves managed to escape. It was a fortune that I managed to capture one for my purposes. However, now I am certain that there are at least two branches of Werewolves. One that acts only on instinct, those exterminated and another instead that has a highly developed intellect and are still alive and so far untouched.
“Dad, did you know they existed two races of werewolves?” Edward asked.
“No, and apparently the Volturi don’t know about their existence either,” he replied.
I struggled to find out what his gift was, but I finally got there. He can inhibit and acquire of the vampire powers. I hadn't noticed before, but when the boy uses his gifts the color of his iris changes, it becomes red and dilates slightly.
Well, let's give my children a little brother or sister.
Everything went well, two beautiful girls were born a few years apart. One is the portrait of Aro with Sulpicia's expressions. Her hair is copper brown, like her eyes. The same color as the werewolf I used. The other has blond hair and gray-blue eyes. She resembles Caius with Atenadora's expressions. The first stopped at the same age as the male, while the second is stuck around 15 like my first hybrid. The same age as common werewolves.
Common werewolves, from now on I will always call them that to differentiate them from the others.
"Honey, are you sure Sabrina is not a Volturo?"
"Yes, Mom. Grandpa, please continue."
The largest one is able to freeze time and speed it up to the point of making anything explode. The second one can absorb life energy and can also donate it, to the point of giving life back to people who have recently died. I hadn't understood this until now. My hybrids have two powers, one of attack, and one of defense. Only the first of my creations has only one power.
“Now I understand why you were still and that explains your rebirth, Irina,” the doctor said.
“Please, grandpa, keep reading. You have to get to the part about Jake and Sabrina. It’s important for you and for them.”
“You’ve already read it, right?” Carlisle said.
“Yes, but secretly, because they’re ashamed of who they are.”
“I’d be ashamed of being a Volturo, too,” Emmett said sarcastically.
“Stupid. They see themselves as monsters. Mike says they’re cowards.”
“Why,” Dr. Cullen asked.
“Because they can’t find the courage to end it.”
“Hey, you cry easily,” Jacob teased.
“I think it's better to continue” Carlisle said.
My hybrids are perfect, but I wonder if I inject another type of plasma into their bodies? I need to be sure it works. I decided to create a new hybrid and I will use Chelsea and her husband Afton.
The baby was born, but it doesn't seem to have any powers, not even the father's weak shield. Now I want to see what happens when I inject blood from other living species into its body.
The experiment was successful and the baby grew very quickly, faster than the other hybrids. Not only did his strength, endurance and speed increase, but so did his senses. Now I know what to do. I don't need the baby anymore and since he has no powers he is completely useless.
“She killed him. It’s not fair,” Renesmee said in a whisper. “They light a candle every night in honor of the little brother they never knew. They named him Lucas.”
Esme walked over to the little girl and caress her. Nessie gave her a bitter smile.
"You're right honey, it's not fair. Now I'm sure that what our little angel said is true. They are not our enemies, even if three of them are Volturi."
"Have they ever met their parents?" Carlisle asked.
"No, and they don't want to meet them either. Even though Mike said they are better than we."
"What did that bad grass say?" Emmett asked.
"Emmett, please calm down," his father scolded.
It has been a long time since my last visit to Volterra. The family has grown. The new member of the clan is interesting. Carlisle calls himself. He is studying medicine and has remarkable thirst control, but less than my sons.
The Cullens and Denali looked at Carlisle in amazement.
“Did you know him, Dad?” Edward asked.
“Yes!!!”, the man said in shock: “At the time he called himself Sir. Beaumont, but Aro called him Duke Scientist. I had no idea that it was him and that he did experiments like this”. Dr. Cullen said in dismay.
An Italian painter is coming today, I asked, or rather ordered Aro to have the man do a portrait of me and Carlisle, but he doesn't like me. It doesn't matter. I'll keep it in mind for future experiments.
I've decided to leave the Volturi, I want to find other guinea pigs for my experiments. Other supernatural creatures, if they exist.
I found a newborn, he is dying. The mother is not able to help the little one. I will use my power to take him. Since he is mortal, I want to see what happens when I insert my venom and the blood of werewolves into his body. Who knows, maybe the hybrid that comes out will be better than those of Joham, a vampire I met a few years ago.
He grew up quickly. He stopped at the age of a 10-year-old. The little one has no powers, but I decided to keep him.
“Coward,” Renesmee said.
Everyone looked at her.
“He didn’t decide to keep him. Mike and the others defended the baby. They couldn’t protect the last little brother, but they protected him. They still do. And they love him so much, Grandma. They love your son so much.”
Esme looked at the little girl in disbelief.
“Jake is the boy you thought was dead, Grandma. He used his power to take him. But is him Grandma. He is your son.”
“My baby is alive, my little one is alive… My love.”
Carlisle hugged his wife.
“He is alive, my baby is alive,” he kept repeating.
Everyone in the room was shocked.
“He is alive.” Esme began to cry.
“Esme! You, you are crying. The poison is pouring into your tear ducts. This is a miracle.”
“Let’s go to him, I want my son back,” said the Cullen matriarch.
“You won’t find him. They not there anymore. Grandpa, you have to read the whole diary. Please, it’s important.”
“Honey, I have to hold my baby in my arms.”
“I’m not there anymore, and before you do anything, you have to finish reading the diary.”
“Okay, little one, but when I’m done, I’ll leave to go get the baby.”
“Okay,” the little girl replied resignedly.
Even though my creatures are perfect, I decided to create more filthy creatures as my first experiments. They will be useful for their training.
I moved to the United States and saw Carlisle again. He married the mother of the child I modified. She is very beautiful, another beautiful hybrid will come out.
Esme and Carlisle looked into each other's eyes.
She was born and she is beautiful. She is the portrait of her mother and has the expressions of her father, but her skin is slightly amber. Thanks to the werewolf I chose. Her eyes are brown. She has several psionic abilities, including my power. I was right to inject my venom into her mother's iris as well.
I was wrong about my firstborn. Today I discovered that in addition to creating very high frequency sound waves, she is also able to project them over long distances. I am so proud of my creatures. Their powers are nothing short of amazing and strangely they were not inherited from their biological parents, except for Sabrina who also has my power. Maybe werewolves have gifts, latent gifts.

No one said a word. They were all shocked. Esme had collapsed next to Carlisle. She couldn’t stop crying.
“Is Sabrina our daughter?” Esme asked.
“Yes, Grandma.”
“We have two children, my love,” Mrs. Cullen said emotionally.
“Yes, honey. Two beautiful children,” Carlisle replied emotionally.
I hope you like it. Thanks for making it to the end of the chapter. Evan looks like Evan Rarchel Wood, and the first hybrid looks like Jenna Ortega Wednesday.

Chapter 9: Port Angeles
Esme and Carlisle returned late at night. They had gone to the old printing house with the hope of finding Sabrina and little Jake. But there was no one there, not even the dog. Mrs. Cullen still had a faint hope. She said to herself: -they will come back, they left everything, they took nothing, they will come back-. She repeated this like a mantra inside herself.
Edward sensed her thoughts. He felt guilty. He knew it was partly his fault and his brothers’. They shouldn’t have followed their father, they shouldn’t have stormed into their home, they shouldn’t have attacked them. Now everything could be lost and their mother would never hold her children again. He was about to apologize when Eleazar intervened.
“Carlisle, Esme, we continue been reading that monster’s journal. He tortured them in an attempt to tame them, domesticate them. He thought their kindness, their sensitivity, their humanity was a problem for him. That monster did horrible things to all of them. Not even the Volturi are that cruel…not even them.”
Esme winced and clutched at her husband’s arm.
“I have to find them. Renesmee honey you know them better than we do, please tell me where they went. I beg you.” Mrs. Cullen began to cry again.
“I don’t know where they are grandma. I can only say one thing, evil doctor is the way Jake calls Dr. Frankenstein. Your son senses his presence. That monster is close by and they’ve gone hunting.”
Esme saw the terrified looks of her children and the Denali. The woman's eyes moved to the diary of that horrible vampire.
"No, no, no!!! If he takes them, what will he do to our children. We have to look for them, we have to look for help. Let's call the witnesses, even the Volturi if necessary..."
Carlisle hugged his wife in an attempt to calm her down. Which was quite difficult at that moment.
"It's okay, my love..."
"NOOO!!! IT'S NOT OK," the woman shouted.
Tanya and Kate intervened to help Carlisle calm Esme down.
“We’ll go us,” Garrett said. “We’ll look for a trail, something that leads us bring to them.”
“We’re coming too,” the Cullen boys and girls said in unison.
“I going to the reservation. I have to warn everyone of the danger,” Jake said.
“Take Rensmee with you,” Bella said.
“No, I want to go with you,” Nessie said.
“No, little girl, you’re going with Jacob and I don’t want to hear any complaints,” her mother scolded.
The little girl snorted.
“Well, I think we start our search at their house. Maybe we can find some leads.” Eleazar said.
“I saw a map on the table. Port Angeles was marked with a red circle,” Carlisle said.
“Then let’s go there right away,” Eleazar said.
Around midnight they arrived in Port Angeles. They tried to smell the air. There were different scents. They continued to move at vampire speed until they smelled a particular scent. The closer they got, the stronger the scent became. Evan, Caius' daughter, smelled like that: the scent of jasmine flowers. They reached the Port Angeles School.
"We are lucky now I also smell other scents similar to those described in the diary," Eleazar said.
The people they were looking for had taken refuge in an abandoned area of the building. When they entered they found Evan in the throes of a strong epileptic seizure. Next to her were Didyme, Jake, Bree and another little girl, Amon's daughter. The latter stood in front of her family ready to defend her. She was about to strike them with her power when her mother called her back. The woman stood up and went to meet them.
“Good evening, my name is Carlisle, Carlisle Cullen.”
“I know who you are sir. My children have told me about you and your family.”
“We have no ill intentions, we do not want to hurt you.”
“Liar,” said the daughter of Amon.
“Sweetheart,” her mother called back.
“Mom, they are evil, you must not believe what this charlatan says.”
The little girl clenched her fists. Carlisle smiled at the sight of this little girl so protective of her family.
“None of us want to hurt your family.” Dr. Cullen tried to reassure the girl.
“Really, and why is one of your own looking down on my sister Bree?”
Carlisle turned to see Jasper looking at the immortal girl.
“Jasper, no. We came in peace.”
“You know the law, Dad. Immortal children are dangerous.”
“She’s not dangerous. We’re there for her and always help her. It’s not her fault she has trouble containing her bloodlust. Would you kill an obese person because they can’t stop eating? And we’re much better at it than you. I know Jasper wanted to eat Bella when she cut herself with the wrapping paper on her birthday. And Rosalie? Lei always wanted eat Bella, when she was bleeding to death after giving birth. We would never have done that.” The girl’s tone was know it all.
Carlisle looked at the little girl curiously.
“They wanted to eat your precious Bella and why are they still alive? You always do two weights and two measures Cullen,” the little girl spat.
“Why do you hate me so much,” Bella asked.
“Really!!! You’re asking,” she said irritably.
“Honey please,” Didyme begged.
“No mommy, stop! This bitch must no longer be protected from the truth.”
“Jenna,” Didyme scolded for her language.
Edward approached the girl and she threw him into an adjacent room with her sound wave. The force of the scream was so strong that he broke through the wall. Bella tried to stop the hybrid, but Jake stepped in front of his sister.
“STOP BELLA,” Esme shouted.
Bella stopped attacking and ran to her husband.
“The baby has powers,” Eleazar said.
“What?” Esme echoed.
“He has a gift, no more than one. He has a power similar to yours Kate and he also has a power that I don’t quite understand. I see numbers…” Eleazar was stunned. He looked at the others and then at Didyme.
“My son…”
“HE’S MY SON, NOT YOUR SON, HE’S MINE,” Esme shouted.
Kate and Tanya tried to calm Esme down. Dr. Cullen in the meantime had come over to Evan.
“How long has he been like that?” he asked.
“About 40 minutes,” Didyme replied.
“What?” Carlisle said in alarm.
Evan began to doze off. He was still having some mild spasms.
“She nourished her sister Bree?” he asked.
“Yes,” Didyme replied.
“Like fed,” Garrett asked curiously.
“They donate their blood. Even though it’s poisonous, it doesn’t harm vampires and it seems to be very nutritious. Renesmee told me this.”
“You, you donate your blood?” Garrett looked surprised at the little girl who had knocked out Edward.
“Yes, why do you have a problem with that?”
“No, I just think it’s incredible and extraordinary. I would like to get to know you better,” Garrett said.
“Why?” the little girl replied warily.
The vampire smiled and held out his hand to the little girl. The little girl spat into the palm of the vampire’s hand.
“Jenna, that’s not how I raised you!”
The little girl bit her lip. She went back to her sister Evan. Scabies was licking of little Evan face in an attempt to comfort her and ease the pain. Jake positioned himself next to Bree. His hand began to charge with electricity. Esme tried to get closer to her son, but Didyme stepped in front of her.
“Not now, Jake has to trust first.”
Esme was resentful of the woman’s response. Didyme moved closer to the woman.
“Forgive me Mrs. Cullen, I didn’t mean to offend you, or belittle you.” Didyme turned the woman to Jake, “Look at Jake’s hand. The boy is ready to attack anyone who comes near his family. It would have hurt you a lot. You need to earn your son’s trust. He needs to understand that you are not a danger to his brother, sisters, or me. Jake is autistic, come slowly and touch his cheek lightly. No hugs yet. He must be the one to ask to be hugged.”
Esme managed to say a simple thank you. She approached her son, but the desire to hold him in her arms was too strong. Jake screamed first, followed immediately by Esme. The child had shocked his mother with a strong electric shock. Carlisle approached his wife. The Cullens and Denali were surprised and alarmed. Kate tried to get closer, but little Jake transformed the electric glow content in his palm into an electric whip. He decapitated the vampire woman. Jasper was about to attack, but was stopped by Eleazar and his mate Carmen.
“This is not how we’re going to solve this.” Eleazar looked at Esme’s son in alarm. The child was screaming and hitting his head with the palm of his hand.
Jenna and Didyme had approached the little hybrid. The sister took out some small cylindrical containers. She started playing chess with Jake. The boy calmed down instantly.
“I apologize for…”, Marcus’s partner couldn’t finish her sentence.
“It’s not Jake’s fault, Mom. It’s their fault. You warned them”, Jenna said angrily.
Esme was starting to feel better. Tanya had helped her sister get back on her feet.
“Amazing, not only can she emanate electricity from her hand, but she can transform that energy into a physical weapon”, Eleazar said. Even Kate was surprised. She wondered if she could do the same with a little training.
Didyme approached Esme and helped the woman up.
“Jake doesn’t like being touched by strangers. She has to earn his trust.”
“And ours,” Jenna echoed. “But I don’t think you can, you’re evil.”
“Still with this story. We’re not evil, the doctor who created you is a monster, just like the Volturi.” Bella’s tone was altered.
“The Volturi are evil, just like Doctor Frankenstein. But they don’t pretend to be good,” the girl replied.
“Let’s all calm down now,” Carlisle said. Then he sent a mental message to the only vampire present who could read minds.
-Edward. Mike said the same thing. From what I understand we hurt someone… actually to a girl, but I don't know who they're referring to. Try to read their minds. The only thing I know is that Renesmee very likes this person-
Edward tried to read Jake's mind. But it was like being inside a black hole. He tried Evan, but the girl had a fog in her head. He read Didyme's mind, but saw only anguish towards her children. He tried to read Bree's mind, but saw only fear. Finally he turned his attention to Jenna. She had figured out what the Cullen family mind reader was doing. Edward was surprised and amused to see the girl's mind.
He approached his father.
“Dad, I didn’t see anything. Jenna figured out I was reading their minds and showed me a really funny image. Me in a boiling cauldron and her dressed as a witch was preparing vampire stew with my dismembered body.” Edward chuckled. “It’s a little girl after all.”
Carlisle looked at his son in surprise. His eyes watched Jenna and Jake playing their version of chess. It looked very complex. Esme approached them.
“I can’t even touch it.” Esme started to cry again.
Didyme approached the woman and whispered, “She can do it, but she has to give it time.”
“Thank you,” the woman replied.
Carlisle watched the scene. Didyme didn’t seem shocked to see Esme crying. He understood that she had shed tears for her children. Suddenly he realized that they had wasted too much time. Inside the building there were only the youngest of the family, but not the adults. They were out there, they were on the hunt… they were in danger.

Chapter 10: Hoh
Carlisle was about to ask where the others had gone when the cell phone rang. It was Jacob.
“Doctor Cullen, it’s Jacob. Leah and Seth are missing.”
“Like missing!”, said Doctor Cullen alarmed.
“Yes, we can’t hear their thoughts anymore. Sam’s pack sensed the presence of a vampire. They also alerted me and my pack, but in the end I couldn’t hear them anymore. I know they met that bloodsucker. I sensed it from their thoughts.”
“I’m sorry Jacob, but we can’t come help you now, we’re not in a position to do so.”
“I understand.” Jake’s tone was full of bitterness.
“They’ll find them, dad, don’t worry,” said Edward who had just read his father’s thoughts.
“Bad doctor… taken,” said the little hybrid pointing to the cell phone.
Carlisle didn’t pay attention to what the little boy had just said. No one noticed except Jenna.
“Who of your people was taken?” Jenna asked.
“Two shifters Seth and Leah,” Edward said absentmindedly.
“Leah, Leah Clearwater!!!”
Doctor Cullen looked at the little girl in shock, as did Edward. Edward approached his father and said that Leah was the girl they had hurt.
“Bad doctor… taken,” the little boy repeated, pointing to cell phone of the doctor Cullen once again.
This time they all listened to little Jake.
“What does bad doctor take mean,” Eleazar asked worriedly.
“It means that the shifters were taken by him, by Doctor Frankenstein, fox,” Jenna said angrily.
The Cullens and Denalis looked at each other in alarm.
“Do you know where they went?” Carlisle asked apprehensively.
“When we got here, Jake made it clear that the vampire had changed direction and gone toward the state’s Indian reservations.” Didyme said.
“Hoh.” Jake said.
“What?” Carlisle asked.
“Hoh,” the boy repeated.
“What is Hoh?” Eleazar asked.
“I don’t know, I don’t know what he mean.” Dr. Cullen approached the little hybrid: “Jake please be more specific.”
“Hoh,” he repeated.
The child began to swing on his feet. He looked at Carlisle, which was very rare for him and said: “Forest… Hoh.”
“Hoh Forest, but of course, the forest close to Seattle.”
“Why go so far, Forks is full of forests too. It doesn’t make sense,” Jasper said.
“He knows,” Jake said pointing to Carlisle and Esme.
Carlisle looked at Jake and realized that the crazy vampire knew that Forks was where his family lived.
“We have to go to them,” the doctor said. “Esme, stay here with the girls.”
“I’m coming with you,” Kate said. “My power can help.”
“I’m coming too,” Bella echoed. “My gift can help too.”
“No, you’re not,” Jenna said resentfully.
“Jenna, Bella won’t hurt Leah,” Edward said.
“She’s been hurting Leah ever since she came to Forks… you’ve been hurting the girl ever since you came to Forks.” Jenna was about to use her power.
“Jenna,” Didyme said harshly.
Jenna turned to look at her mother.
“Please find my… find them.” Didyme’s eyes were shining. Esme looked at her with infinite understanding. It was natural that she thought of them as her children. She had raised them. She was their mother. However, she still held out hope of having her children close by.
“We will find them, Didyme,” Carlisle tried to reassure her.
“Look for abandoned buildings, old disused factories, he and his creatures always take refuge there,” Didyme warned.
“His creatures?” Eleazar asked.
“The experiments that went wrong. With his power he can control them,” he replied.
“Fantastic,” Emmett said.
They set off for the northwest of the country. They arrived 4 hours later.
oOo
Irina had with her the gray coat that had been lent to her and put it under the body of Evan who was still sleeping. Tanya, instead, used her jacket to cover her, while Carmen made a pillow with hers and placed it under Evan's head to make her more comfortable. Didyme thanked them. Her family had left the 'house' where they lived in a hurry and had not taken anything with them.
Bree had taken refuge in a corner and was observing the remaining Cullens and Denali. Scabies was crouching next to her. She was afraid of the Cullens, especially Jasper. Before leaving the room the vampire had looked her over again. The girl remembered the last time she had seen him. He wanted to kill her because she was a newborn and above all an immortal child. According to the law of the Volturi, those like her were not supposed to exist.
Esme looked at her son Jake. The child had started playing with Jenna again.
“Your son has two powers. One he saw, the other is really special,” Didyme said.
“Special?” Esme asked.
“Yes, as your friend mentioned earlier, Jake uses numbers to see connections between people who apparently have nothing in common and are not connected to each other. My children believe he can also predict the future through complicated mathematical calculations. He can sense the presence of the monster that created them and see its moves, like he did with your friends.”
“They are not friends with Leah,” Jenna said. “Only with that idiot Seth.”
“Please forgive Jenna. She loves her family very much, including Bree, and Leah.”
Esme smiled softly as she saw how the little girl protected and loved her family.
“Didyme, that vampire’s journal didn’t say anything about Jake’s powers,” Esme said.
“He just saw a retarded boy, he never got beyond that,” Didyme said.
“Because my son is autistic, what did that monster do to him?”
“It was an accident, I think. When he changed him, there was a terrible storm raging. They were outside and a bolt of lightning struck Jake. The lightning somehow altered the DNA Jake’s body, giving him the power to emanate electricity from his hands alone. But it also caused neurological damage.”
Esme started crying again.
“My baby, my poor baby.”
“Your son is very loved, and he has never been touched by that monster again. They always protected him. they let themselves be tortured in his place for protect him.”
“Thank you, thank you for all the love you gave him,” Esme said emotionally.
She positioned herself next to her son, contenting herself, for now, just looking at him. The Denali girls were next to Evan, while Alice came closed at Bree.
“Don’t be afraid, I don’t want to hurt you. No one will hurt you.”
“Don’t believe her, Bree, it’s in their nature to hurt others,” Jenna said.
“You’re not much use if you do that. You scare the little girl even more,” Rosalie said, having been quiet and in the background until then.
“You too also useless. You haven’t done anything since you got here. Just yuck, yuck. You don’t like room, Vampire Barbie? Find a broom and you clean up, if you’re that disgusted.” Jenna’s tone was irritattet and irreverent.
“What did you call me?”
“Vampire Barbie. That’s Mike’s nickname for you.”
Rosalie raised an eyebrow and said to Didyme, “His son is really nice.”
“Oh yeah, my boyfriend is very polite.”
Jenna burst out laughing, as did Bree, the Denali girls, Alice, and Esme. Little Jake’s mouth quirked up a bit. Esme saw that slight smile and her heart swelled with love for her child.

Chapter 11: The Secrets of the Forest
The Cullens and Denalis searched the entire forest. Inside they found several small wooden house used in the early 1900s as hunting shelters and now used by tourists and residents who enjoy outdoor activities. They were about to reach the edge of the forest when Garrett spotted a rather large structure.
“Let's hope that's the Carlisle building, we're almost at the end of this damned forest and so far nothing. It's very likely that the woman lied, after all she is Aro's sister.”
The building in question was a former sawmill, one of the first. It also opened in the early 1900s and closed around the end of the 1930s. Although it had been abandoned for some time, it was, like the former printing house, a solid structure, capable of withstanding any weather. The complex was very large, too large for the era in which it was built. According to some local legends, the owner wanted to become the king of the lumber market in the entire state and perhaps in the entire American.
When they reached the spot they began to look around. They perceived different smells: that of the people they were looking for, but also something else, because they felt a foul stench. It was a mix of sewage, rotten blood and rotting corpse. The door of the building was broken down.
As soon as they entered they saw a terrifying sight. Lying on the floor was a hideous creature. It was not clear what it was, it had scales and fur, long and triple fangs, several eye openings. It was a four-legged beast, but in some parts of the body there were claws and in some places even fingers, if you could call them that. Not to mention the size: 5 times larger than an adult werewolf. That nauseating smell came from that thing.
Emmett was not easily impressed, but that monster had made him feel uncomfortable.
“Carlisle, I fear it is one of that mad scientist’s experiments,” Eleazar said.
“Is it one of the monsters described in the diary?” Emmett asked.
“Yes, thank goodness she is dead. We must be even more careful.”
The creature was pierced through and through by a heavy metal rod.
They continued walking, until they came across another even more disgusting monster. Like the other creature it had several eyes, but they were all of different sizes and the mouth was so large it resembled a cut. It had no hair or scales. The skin was granite like that of vampires, but transparent, the insides could be seen. This one was also deceased. They saw other monstrous creatures more or less large and all dead.
“How many more obscenities will we find? I hope they're all dead.”
“Hey Emmett, that's the first time you don't want to fight,” Jasper said, amused.
“It's just generosity, my brother, I'll gladly leave them to you.”
“This place is very big, maybe we should split up,” Eleazar said.
They split into two groups: Jasper, Emmett, Edward, and Bella went to check the West side of the building, while Carlisle, Garrett, Eleazar, and Kate went to the East.
Both groups found more of the now harmless foul creatures, until Carlisle and his heard a dull noise coming from one of the side rooms. When they entered, they saw a gigantic, abnormal thing, a sort of worm-like creature. It was suffocating one of the hybrids: Mike.
The slimy ‘tentacles’ of the monster were stretching out beyond measure. The thing stuck out its tongue and started to drool. Newton was its meal. In a sudden rage the vampires threw themselves against the monster, but the boy was faster. Thanks to ‘telekinesis’ he managed to move a blade of the sawmill and cut the tentacles clean off. The creature was writhing in pain and the three vampires took advantage of this to kill it.
Mike was on his knees, holding his head in his hands. He didn't say anything, but he was in a lot of pain. Some of they could use some psionic abilities, but the pain that came after was excruciating. Doctor Cullen noticed blood-red streaks on his cheeks.
“He has internal bleeding, help me we have to get him out of here”.
They were about to pick him up when the boy stopped them.
“I don’t need your help doctor”.
“Mike please don’t be so stubborn, I’m not your enemy. None of us are”. Carlisle was very worried about him and the other hybrids. After the monsters he had seen he wanted to do several tests.
Mike spat out a lump of blood and repeated that he didn’t need help. He stood up, staggering slightly, and left the room, followed by the others.
More foul things tried to kill them for feed themselves, but were stopped by Mike. The boy was visibly tired.
“Mike, please, you’re sick and you’re asking too much of yourself. You need to rest and get me a check-up.”
“A check-up here, doctor?” the hybrid’s tone was ironic.
“You’re stubborn, boy,” Kate said.
Carlisle was about to argue when they heard a soft breathing and a heartbeat similar to Renesmee's inside one of the rooms.
When they entered they found themselves in front of a girl of about 10 years old. She had long black hair, like her eyes. The typical vampire skin. Her scent reminded of acacia honey. She was surrounded by many small insects.
Doctor Cullen and Eleazar looked at the little girl carefully, she had a familiar face. Especially the latter seemed very interested. The vampire was able to locate humans and others of his kind, gifted with special qualities. When he was still in the service of the Volturi, Aro used the power of the vampire to find people or vampires with special gifts, so he could add them to his ranks.
“Little, Carlisle, can communicate telepathically with insects. I fear she is another hybrid.”
Dr. Cullen didn’t answer. He simply stared at his friend with an expression of amazement and concern. Maybe she was like the other hybrids, or at least he hoped so. There was certainly nothing monstrous about her, in fact she was a child of extraordinary beauty.
Mike approached.
“Hello, I’m experiment #2357, and you?” Mike asked.
“Experiment #5010. Were you created by the doctor?”
“Yes, miss, him,” Mike replied. “When did he create you?”
“Last year,” the little girl replied.
“You grew up fast, even faster than me. What genes did he use?”
“Vampire, common werewolf, and various insects,” the little girl said.
“He never disappoints. The next one hybrid might have plant genes in its DNA. Do you know who your parents are?”
“He once let slip two names: Felix and Sabrina.”
“What?” Mike and Carlisle said in unison.
Doctor Cullen looked at Mike. The boy didn’t feel like answering.
“Mike!” Dr. Carlisle urged.
“Last year Sabrina disappeared for a few months. We were on the trail of our creator. We looked for her. Eventually she came back with no memory of anything and now I know why.”
Carlisle looked closely at the little girl’s face. The resemblance to Felix was undeniable, but she had Sabrina’s expressions… his daughter’s.
“Congratulations, Grandpa. Now you have another granddaughter,” Kate said, amused.
Dr. Cullen smiled softly.
“5010, do you know where our creator went?” Mike asked.
“No, he ran away. He’s mad at me.”
“Damn, he sensed Jake,” Mike said angrily, “Why is he mad at you?” The boy continued.
“He was going to take me away with him, but he hurt me and the bugs attacked him. They didn’t hurt him, but he still got mad. He said my power was ridiculous and that I was useless.” She burst into tears.
“You’re not useless, honey, and your power is amazing. No vampire or werewolf is like you. Don’t ever forget that. Now, little one, you have a dislocated shoulder, I can fix the bone, but it’ll hurt a little. Since you communicate with them telepathically, you have to tell your friends not to intervene if they feel you’re in a little pain.” Mike said.
The bugs began to swarm. Mike took hold of the spot where her shoulder blade was.
“I count to three… one, two, done. Don’t make any sudden movements, the pain will go away sooner,” Mike said.
“Thank you,” the little girl said.
Mike was helping the little girl up when Carlisle noticed something wrong with his movements of the lad.
“Mike, you’re about to have a epileptic seizure.”
“I’m fine, doc…”
The boy's eyes rolled back and he fell backwards in convulsions. Doctor Cullen caught the boy just in time and laid him on the floor. The other group entered the room. They still hadn't found the girls.
"Edward, you have to take him to Port Angeles, I'll be there as soon as I can."
Edward scooped up the still-spasming hybrid’s body and walked out of the building. Carlisle turned and looked at the girl. She didn’t seem surprised or scared.
“Are you a doctor?” she asked
“Yes,” Carlisle replied
“Is it like the doctor who created me?” the girl continued.
“No, I try to save other people’s lives, like Mike’s.”
“Are you talking about experiment #2357?”
Carlisle smiled softly. The monster had given a serial number to identify his creatures. To him they were just objects.
“You don’t have to worry, it happens to me often too, but then it passes.”
Doctor Cullen smiled slightly and covered the girl with his jacket.
“Thanks, but I don’t need it. I’m insensitive to heat and cold.”
“We are looking for four more people. Two are like you, can you sense them?” Carlisle asked.
“I don’t know how to do it, I only communicate with insects, but I can ask them to look for them for your sir,” the little girl replied.
“Ok little girl, ask them.”
In a short time the room filled with small creatures: Orthoptera in the juvenile stage, butterflies of the Vanessa Atalanta species…
“Aren’t they hibernating? It’s the middle of winter,” Emmett said.
“Emmett, most of the insects die in this season, but some survive and go into diapause, not hibernation. They’re probably active because of the girl,” Jasper said.
The girl gave precise orders to the little creatures and they slipped into every crack in the building. After about ten minutes, some Orthoptera returned.
“They found them, but you can’t get there from the inside, you have to go outside. The room in question can only be reached from the outside of the building.”
“Did they tell you all this?” Emmett said in disbelief.
“Yes sir, insects are very intelligent.”
“Sir! It’s a little too for him, baby.”
“Careful Jasper, don’t provoke me.”
The group walked out of the building until they found the room in question. The lock on the door was off. When they entered they saw Annie and Sabrina next to two convulsing bodies: Leah and Seth. Sabrina was staring at Carlisle and he did the same. Only now did he realize the resemblance between her and Esme, only now did he see the expressions on her face, they were his too. From him she had also gotten her height: 6 feet. The doctor remembered the moment he saw the girl for the first time in the hospital. She tended to lower her knees slightly. She was ashamed of her height. He smiled thinking back to that day. He saw that his daughter blushed a little. He understood that she had just read his mind.
“Dr. Cullen,” his daughter said, “He used his own venom mixed with that of a common werewolf. Luckily he only used those and not other genes. He must take them away like he did with Mike. They are already changing.”
Carlisle looked at Seth and Leah in terror. The vampire venom was deadly to shapeshifters like them. Suddenly some stones began to float slightly, while Leah’s body vanished for a few seconds, then reappeared.
“Most likely they had some latent gifts and with the change they are coming out,” Sabrina continued, “Even their smell is different.”
Emmett and Jasper took the shifters. They were smiling. Seth now smelled like freshly baked bread and no longer like wet dog. Leah's scent was like sweet vanilla mixed with spicier ginger. Leah had the nicest smell of the shifters before her new transformation. She smelled like the fall season. When they were gone, Carlisle turned directly to his daughter.
“Because you never told me anything Sabrina. Because you didn’t want me to know I was your father!!”
“It seems simple to you doctor… Hi, I’m your daughter and I’m also a monster!! And then there’s not only me”.
“Are you referring to the rest of your family?”.
“Yes”, replied the girl.
Carlisle approached his daughter. He was holding the hand of the girl he met before. Sabrina and Annie looked at her.
“Hi, I’m experiment n...”
“Sabrina, her name is Sabrina, and she’s Annie. You’re not numbers, and much less monsters… we’ll find a name for you too.”
Sabrina and Felix’s daughter has looks like a very young Jennifer Connelly. While Jake has looks like a very young David Mazouz.
A special thanks to who continues to follow the story, to who put it among the favorites and to the reviewers.

First Warning: the chapter will not please fans of the Cullens, Bella and all the rest of the Disney gang… sorry Twilight. I read the saga and saw the movies only for Leah and Charlie Bewley. I love the Volturi. But the rest of the gang no, even if I like the pairings (besides LEAH/DEMETRI), Leah Alistair, Leah Nahuel, Leah Embry… and a little, depending on the story, Leah Felix, Leah Vladimir and Leah/OC. I'm not a big fan of Leah/Jacob.
Chapter 12: Homecoming
Carlisle returned home and settled Evan, Mike, Leah and Seth in a secluded area of their home. They were still asleep. From Didyme's information he knew they would wake up within a day or two. He hoped sooner with the right treatment. The doctor tested the blood of all the hybrids. He had never seen anything like it. They didn't have 25 pairs of chromosomes like vampires, or even 24 like shifters. They had 28 pairs of chromosomes. The tests done on Leah and Seth also showed the same result.
Dr. Cullen was surprised to see that the skin of the hybrids (except for the young Quileutes, Jake, and the little girl found in the sawmill), even though identical to that of common vampires, could be torn. The doctor realized that their skin was solid only to the touch. As for the last hybrid, he hypothesized that the dominant gene must be that of vampires. He could not do any experiments on her because her skin was granite and the venom was inside the bloodstream. Her bone structure, however, could be damaged in some way. He thought back to the girl's dislocated shoulder. He was surprised when the girl said that her complexion reflected both sunlight and moonlight.
Carlisle found the molecular regeneration of all the hybrids extraordinary. Not even the smallest scar remained on their skin. Even the shapeshifters' had increased exponentially. He hypothesized that the vampire venom had not killed the two Quileutes because it was mixed with werewolf blood and their genes. He guessed that this mixture had increased their regenerative capacity enough to assimilate the venom without problems. Aside from the initial epileptic seizure.
He also tried to understand where their powers could come from, so different from those known and different even from those of their parents, or at least those who had faculties. He thought about the theory of Dr. Frankenstein: werewolves with latent powers. He tried to feel a drop of their blood. The taste was identical to their smell. He poured other drops on an intolerant plant and immediately regained strength. He was shocked. Their blood was poisonous and yet it had just regenerated a plant that was dying. He hypothesized that their creator thought it was poisonous because it smelled. He wondered how much that discovery could help modern medicine.
Carlisle came out of his study. He watched his daughter Sabrina next to her mother Esme. Jake playing their version of chess with Jenna. Bree hugging Didyme. Irina next to her sisters. Annie looking at the picture the Cullens had made of their children's graded hoods. Bella was in the yard with the new hybrid, Renesmee, and Jacob. The wolf boy had recently returned from the reservation. They hadn't said anything about the hybrids. Nessy was very worried about Leah and how the Quileutes would react. But she wasn't worried about Seth. She knew he wouldn't have a problem.
Carlisle called his daughter over to ask her some questions. Edward laughed and told his father what Jenna was thinking: -Dr. Cullen's guinea pigs, coming soon to these screens-. The doctor rolled his eyes.
“Jenna doesn't like my family very much,” Edward told Sabrina.
“My sister was the first one created. The first one to see and suffer the evil of our creator. She was alone in the beginning. She's cynical.”
Carlisle smiled softly. He invited her into his office.
“I only know about you and them through that monster’s diary.”
“There’s not much to say. Our life with him is described in the great detail in the notebooks…”
“Notebooks, are there any more?” Carlisle asked.
“Yes. We only took that one. We don’t know if after Experiment 5010, or even before, there were other things like us.”
“You just can’t help but see yourselves as monsters or objects,” Carlisle said bitterly.
“No, we’re not people after all Doctor Cullen. We’re the children of an experiment, that vampire’s toys. Creatures that shouldn’t even exist in your world,” Sabrina said.
“You can’t even call me Dad.”
“A daughter who’s three years younger than her father is pretty absurd.”
“You’ll always be my little girl.”
“Doesn’t even know me Doctor.”
“It’s true, I know the nurse, but not the person, not the daughter. I’d like to get to know you, just like I want to get to know Jake and Corinne.”
“Corinne, that’s a nice name. I think she’ll like it. We’ve actually changed our names a lot.”
“How did you escape that crazy vampire?” Carlisle asked.
“How did we escape,” Sabrina replied.
Dr. Cullen raised his eyebrows. He realized that if he wanted to have his children and granddaughter by his side, he would have to accept all the other hybrids. After all, they had grown up together. He rephrased the question.
“How did you manage to escape?”
“He thought none of us had the strength or will to escape. We were his. Our survival depended on him. We knew nothing of the world. We had no contact, except with our victims,” Sabrina winced: “But I had the power to read his mind and everything I saw I mentally transmitted to others. Our mother’s love… Didyme’s, and the love we felt for each other, especially for the little ones was the only beautiful thing in our existence.”
Dr. Cullen smiled softly.
“He never knew what you were up to?” Carlisle asked.
“No, he can’t read people’s minds, he can only command them. He never used his power on us. He was so cocky, he expected total devotion to him because he created us. But that was our salvation. I used my power of manipulation. I wanted to erase every single memory of our creation. I only succeeded in making him harmless. Apparently it doesn’t work on someone who has the same gift as you, or I wasn't good enough.”
Sabrina took a deep breath.
“We lived by our wits the first years of our liberation. We didn’t know the world even though I had seen it through the eyes of Dr. Frankenstein. Our mother didn’t know anything either. We were afraid. We are not proud of what we did. We cheated, we stole...”
Sabrina burst into tears. Her father wrapped her in a tight hug.
“It’s okay my darling, no one will judge your actions. It’s not your fault. My life hasn’t been easy after the transformation either,” Carlisle said.
“Did he do what we did?” Sabrina asked.
“Yes, I did it too. And like you, I’m not proud of it. No one in my family knows. Not even Edward.”
Sabrina looked at her father in amazement.
“But that doesn’t make us bad people. Like you, I was scared and didn’t know how to move forward. That’s one of the reasons I became the person I am today. That’s one of the reasons you became the people you are today.”
Sabrina wiped her tears with the sleeve of her sweatshirt. Carlisle hugged her again and gave her a soft kiss on the forehead.
“I know you have a home, but this is your home too,” the doctor said.
“Thank you… Leah? Can this be a home for her too in case she doesn’t feel like staying with us?”
“Leah has a home,” Carlisle said.
“No, Doctor, Seth has a home, but not her. Especially now. To all of you, she is an invisible girl.”
“Invisible? No, I wouldn’t say so. It’s hard not to notice her,” Dr. Cullen said jokingly.
“No, Doctor, you only see what she shows you, and only what is convenient for you. You don’t see beyond that. You don’t see her pain, her more than justified anger, her beautiful soul. Leah is a beautiful creature and I am truly sorry that you are so blind.”
Carlise looked at his daughter in surprise.
“Tell me about Leah,” the vampire said softly.
Sabrina looked at the man in surprise. This made him smile.
“Do you know Emily?”
“Yes.”
“Do you like her as a person?”
“I don’t know her very well, but Bella thinks highly of her.”
“Leah’s character was similar to her cousin’s, but with a bigger heart and a much deeper capacity for love than Emily’s.”
“She and Sam were deeply in love. It was pure, true, and sincere love. A feeling that not even Chelsea would have break.”
“Do you know Chelsea?”
“No, I saw her for the first time during your meeting with them. I read each of your minds.”
Sabrina was silent for a few seconds.
“Edward, Emmett, and Jasper were the cause of Sam’s transformation. They decided to have a contest. A dare contest, to be exact. They snuck into the reservation. They wanted to see if there were any wolf boys. Edward saw Sam and Leah, together. His son envied the love between them. He had never looked for a mate, not even someone to transform, but when he saw them together he wanted to love and be loved in the same way. I saw it all in his mind. Now Edward thinks that only he and Bella are the perfect couple on par with those who have been imprinted. Stupid boy.”
A few tears rolled down the girl’s cheeks.
“It was the love he felt for her that helped the boy return to being human after his first transformation. It was her voice that called his name, when she would sneak out and go into the forest to look for him. It was her eyes when he would look at her hidden behind the trees still in wolf form.”
Sabrina sighed again.
“Imprinting, contrary to what you might think, did not erase Sam’s love for Leah. It was still there, with the same strength, the same intensity, the same purity. When he went to talk to the elders about what was happening to him, they were happy. They told him all their theories about shapeshifting magic, including that of the gift. The soulmate chosen by the spirits as a reward for their sacrifice for the tribe. What those stupid old men did not know and will never know is that Sam, despite his attraction to Emily, he had gone for Leah, not for the girl’s cousin, but for Leah. He simply gave up in the end.”
Carlisle frowned.
“Sam’s imprint, as well as Jacob’s, is stronger than the other wolf boys’, because it had to overpower the other feeling. Sometimes I think Emily is Leah’s replacement and Rensmee is Bella’s. Leah has always found Jacob’s imprint obscene, and she’s right. The wolf chose the daughter of the girl Jacob loved. And still loves. It’s really absurd.”
Sabrina was silent for a few seconds.
“As time went by, Sam began to love Emily sincerely, but even that didn’t destroy his love for Leah. It just put him to sleep. He thought there were only a few crumbs left and that gave his heart relief. A kind of absolution. But his love for her reawakened when she transformed and came back into the boy’s life. True love can’t be destroyed. Only that fool didn’t recognize it this time. He just thought that feeling was compassion, pity for Leah.”
Sabrina burst into tears.
“Darling,” her father said softly.
“The worst thing is that even if that love isn’t defeated, it will return to oblivion and perhaps be broken into pieces like a puzzle to be put together again. Because human love must be cultivated like a fragile and vulnerable plant. While Jacob’s will remain intact because he will always be next to Bella. Unknowingly, he will cultivate it. And that’s not fair to Leah. Sam was taken away from Leah in a really sneaky way. I apologize, I can’t continue. Keep this in mind, Leah isn’t how everyone, including Edward, has described her. That idiot should wash his mouth out with soap.”
Sabrina left the office in tears. Esme saw her and ran to her, but the girl refused her hug and went straight to the attic.
“Edward, Jasper, Emmett, in my office. Now,” Dr. Cullen said firmly.
Knowing Emmett, he is capable of proposing that kind of challenge to his brothers. In Eclipse (or in the last book) no one sees Leah beautiful anymore, because no one looks at her with love… except Sam. But I don't know to what extent the boy realized this. Then he was surrounded by Emily, pro-Emily morons, even more idiotic and pro-Emily elders…
As for her, if I remember correctly Jacob explains to Bella that Leah was in despair while looking for Sam after the boy disappeared. And despite everything Jake never understood anything about Leah. Instead I don't understand how Jacob can believe that he and Renesmee had chosen each other (or were destined to be together) when she was still in the womb. Nessy only wanted people who made her mother feel good and in this list there wasn't only Jacob, but also Carlisle, Esme, Edward (and Edward himself says something similar in Breakin Dawn if I remember correctly)... and all those who always kissed Bella's ass and then Renesmee's. Not to mention that Leah was alone to face that whole new world. She had surrounded herself with wolf boys and there were the elders, but ultimately, she was alone in the midst of their distrust and not only because of her transformation. I'm Mormon and I shouldn't say or write bad words, but here I really can't help but put them.
When I read the Twilight saga I saw hypocrisy, pettiness, half-truths, insinuations, contradictions…
As for the scene of Sam who returns human thanks to Leah's love... I was inspired by the scene in the movie New Moon when Jacob in wolf form looks at Bella (and at some fanfiction). The same scene can be seen when he looks at Renesmee (during the visual explanation of the wolf's magic). And returning to the attraction of the girls chosen by the wolf immediately after the imprinting (or even before in the case of Nessy), in my opinion it does not exist. Renesmee wanted to be surrounded by pro-Bella people and Emily wanted Sam even before the imprinting (word of Meyer). Sorry for the confusion and the outburst.

Chapter 13: broken life
Carlisle gave his children a good dressing down for disobeying his orders and risking breaking the treaty with the Quileutes. When they left, the doctor asked Edward to go talk to his sister Sabrina.
“I don’t think she thinks of us as his family,” the boy said.
“You’re going anyway.” The older vampire’s tone was insistent.
Edward went up to the attic. He had read his father’s mind about what his sister had told him about Leah. He didn’t think much of the Quileute girl, especially since she had caused his wife to have a major crisis when she was expecting Renesmee. In his opinion, she deserved everything that had happened to her so far.
When he reached Sabrina, he saw that the girl was looking at him. She had read his thoughts.
“If you came here to talk badly about Leah, you can leave.”
“According to our Father, you haven’t said everything about the shapeshifter,” the boy said.
“Do you want to know the truth, or are you hoping I’ll tell you something you can use to hurt her?”
“I’ve never hurt Leah.”
“Your way of mocking her pain, your attitude toward her, isn’t that hurting her?” Sabrina asked.
“You believe that.” Edward didn’t want to give in. He was sure he was right.
Sabrina looked at the boy.
“Have you read your father’s mind?” the woman asked.
“He’s your father, too,” Edward said harshly.
“Have you read his mind?” Sabrina repeated.
“Yes,” the young Cullen replied dryly.
“And you still think badly of Leah? You’re a stiff-necked boy, Cullen. Do you know what astral projection is?”
“I know it has to do with the Quileutes.”
“Astral projection is an out-of-body experience. What the Quileutes don’t know is that you can gain gifts through it. All shapeshifters have this gift, but only Leah can unconsciously use one of these gifts. Only, unlike the pack boys, she has had this gift since birth and not after becoming a wolf girl.”
Edward let out a small laugh. Sabrina slapped him, cracking the young Cullen’s left cheek for a few seconds. The boy was surprised.
“Leah turns into a wolf, she is the wolf girl. Not the shapeshifters’ companions, not Bella, but Leah.”
“What would that gift be,” the vampire asked irritably.
“Premonitions. Do you know why Leah went to your wife when she was expecting Renesmee?”
“To hurt her.” The tone was harsh and pedantic.
“Leah dreamed of Jacob killing Renesmee.”
“That’s ridiculous. Jake would never do something like that.”
“He was about to.”
Edward’s eyes widened.
“In her dream she saw Jacob enter the room where Rosalie was holding the baby. She saw your sister torn to pieces and the baby’s body torn apart. She saw your pain turn into uncontrollable rage. She saw Jacob killed in a horrible way by you. She saw the war that would break out afterward, between your family and the Quileutes. Leah didn’t think it was a premonition dream, but she knew that such a thing was possible. She was always on Jacob’s side because she knew the pain the boy felt for his love for Bella. She knew where that pain could lead: either to a slow destruction, or to the destruction of something else. But he has never seen Leah's pain… no one sees it, because nobody want to see. Otherwise you would be forced to admit that everything that happened to her was never right, imprinting included. Better to live hiding from the truth. I guess it’s easier.”
“Life isn’t always fair,” Edward said softly.
“But it shouldn’t be this way,” said a voice behind them.
Edward and Sabrina turned. Jenna had just entered the attic.
“Life with you has been very generous, Cullen. Your Bella wanted the Moon and she got the Moon. Leah’s requests were and are much more humble, but she only gets crumbs and you think she should be thankful for the crumbs. She doesn’t need your handouts. If you can only give her crumbs, then don’t give her anything, because all you do is humiliate her like this,” the little girl said.
Edward didn’t say anything. He just stared at Jenna who was smiling at the thought of reducing the vampire’s body to crumbs with her sonic scream.
“You don’t like me very much, do you Jenna?” The boy was trying to ease the tension.
“I hate you, your family, and all the Quileutes. You’re evils.”
The boy had no ill will towards the girl. He liked her. He had liked the way she stood up to the vampire who had created her. He turned back to Sabrina and asked her to continue.
“When Jacob entered the room where Renesmee was, Leah had another vision, but it lasted the blink of an eye: the imprinting of her alpha. Another humiliation.”
“Why do you think it’s a humiliation?” Edward asked in surprise.
“Really, do you really ask yourself that question?” Jenna was irritated: “You’re so stupid,” she continued.
Edward began to get irritated. He didn’t like being insulted.
“Jenna,” his sister called.
The girl snuggled into Sabrina’s arms.
“The shifters were born to fight vampires. But since you Cullens and Bella arrived, the Quileute rules have changed. Actually, they changed before that. Jacob’s mother knew that you Cullens were vampires. How do you think she knew?”
Edward didn’t have an answer to give. He tried to read her mind, but he realized that Sabrina was hiding her thoughts with her power.
“Billy told her everything. Harry did the same thing to Sue.”
“Is it that bad?” Edward asked.
Jenna was about to yell at the vampire boy, but was stopped by her sister.
“It was supposed to be a secret. But they knew. They knew everything. The elders turned a blind eye to it. You always turn a blind eye every time. When Sam became a wolf boy, he wanted to tell Leah everything, but they told him that anyone who was outside the shifter world was not supposed to know anything. Outsiders. Leah became a stranger to all of them, even her family.”
Sabrina took a deep breath.
“When Sam imprinted on Emily, Leah ceased to exist in her parents’ eyes. Harry was supposed to be a sort of fatherly guide for Sam, while Sue replaced Leah with Emily. They wanted to push Leah away not for her own good, but for Emily and Sam’s. The fourth heartbreak for Leah.”
“The fourth?” Edward asked.
“The first was Sam’s disappearance, the second was Sam’s secrets, the third was Sam’s imprinting and that was the first humiliation, the fourth was her parents’ total apathy for her followed by empathy for Sam and Emily. And the second humiliation.”
“That bitch Emily took everything: Sam, Leah’s parents, her friends, the elders. Everything,” Jenna said.
“The third humiliation and the fifth heartbreak for Leah was hearing the comparison between Sam’s feelings for her and his feelings for Emily. Even Bella couldn’t believe he had ever loved anyone else before Emily. The love that bound Sam to Leah was deep, sincere. It was true love. You saw it, Edward. You can’t say otherwise…”
Edward knew what Sabrina was talking about. He had read his father’s mind. At that moment he remembered the day he had seen Sam and Leah together for the first time.
“But imprinting,” Sabrina continued, “It’s a supernatural love, it will always be stronger, over the top. It captures the spirit of the wolf, but not the heart.”
Tears began to roll down both girls’ cheeks.
“The fourth humiliation and the sixth pain are connected to her transformation. The loss of everything she was before. The seventh pain is the death of her father and the transformation of Seth. She continues to blame herself for this. The eighth pain and the fifth humiliation are connected to her life as a wolf girl. The elders and the boys of the pack considered her, and still consider her, an anomaly. They have never made a secret of it. They never wanted Leah within the pack. They only humiliated her, despised her. Do you remember the fight with the newborn vampires?”
“Yes,” Edward replied.
“What did you think of Leah at that moment?”
“That she was arrogant.”
“She did it to be accepted by the wolf boys. Not out of arrogance.”
“What if Seth had been there instead of Leah? How do you think their reaction would have been… your reaction?” said Jenna
Edward didn’t answer.
“You just answered the question. Seth would have been considered brave, not stupid or arrogant. Not to mention that Bella is was praised for her bravery at that time. For her sacrifice… she got a stupid little cut on her arm that didn’t even need half a stitch. And she is became the heroine of LaPush. They compared her to the third wife, without deserving such an honor. The sixth humiliation and the ninth pain for Leah,” Jenna said.
“The tenth pain…” Sabrina continued “… and the seventh humiliation are due to Bella being on the reservation listening to their legends. When your wife saw her she was surprised to see Leah. As if she were the stranger and not your companion. The eleventh pain came with the change of the Quileute elders and some wolf boys towards you and your friends.”
“Isn’t that a good thing?” Edward asked.
“No idiot,” Jenna scolded him.
“The twelfth pain and eighth humiliation came with Jacob’s imprint. With a half-vampire. And her world fell apart again. If you think about it Edward, Leah ultimately lost Sam for nothing, she lost her father for nothing, she lost everything she was and everything she had for nothing. She’s been broken so many times it’s a miracle she’s still standing.”
“Maybe she hasn’t been broken that hard,” Edward said softly.
“You’re dead, piece of filth, dead.” Jenna was furious.
“She self-harms, Edward. She’s been doing it ever since her boyfriend dumped her. After Emily and Sam’s wedding, she ran away and went to the Forks forest. She didn’t transform because she didn’t want any of her wolf brothers to feel her pain. She stepped into a trap set by a poacher. You can imagine the rest. She sees herself as a monster. Someone who doesn’t deserve to be loved,” Sabrina continued.
Edward was shocked.
“You’ve never felt all of her pain, because she’s always hidden it. And also because you’re incapable of seeing it,” Sabrina said.
“Let his feel it, let his feel everything,” Jenna urged.
Edward looked at the little girl and then at Sabrina. Sabrina’s irises turned gold and dilated slightly.
Special thanks to: 98leahcullen, David's Mermaid, Queen Everyday, Hope Shalott, elysiantree, Stephycats7785, literaryrose, Romanticly tragic perfection… who inspired parts of the chapter with their stories. This chapter is dedicated to you.
Most likely I exaggerated, but given Bella's reaction to the loss of Edward (New Moon), I thought of something similar for Leah. In short, in the saga it seems that everyone suffers more than Leah, that their love is greater than Sam and Leah's, that everyone is better and kinder than Leah, more intelligent...
As for Leah's parents... supernatural affairs take precedence, even over family. For this I took inspiration from several fanfictions not far from the reality of the saga.
I don't remember Bella's cut on her arm in Eclipse, but if I remember correctly it wasn't a fatal wound and she didn't even bleed to death. So much fuss about nothing.
I still have to understand Meyer's badness towards Leah, even if I have half an idea why.
I will always continue to reiterate that Emily is Leah's surrogate for Sam and Renesmee is Bella's surrogate for Jacob.
I love Leah. I read the books and watched the movies just for her.
It is mistakenly believed that Leah only suffers for her broken heart. Unfortunately I am not good enough to do her character justice.
One thing I can't stand in the saga is the "prize", that Jacob receives. He wants to kill the little girl and instead he is "rewarded", with imprinting. Instead the injustices that Leah receives over the years are justified. But an unjust thing remains unjust, there are no justifications.

Third Notice, identical to the first: the chapter will not please fans of the Cullens, Bella and all the rest of the Disney gang... sorry Twilight. I read the saga and watched the movies only for Leah and Charlie Bewley. I love the Volturi. But not the rest of the gang, even if I like the pairings (in addition to LEAH / DEMETRI), Leah Alistair, Leah Nahuel, Leah Embry ... and a little, depending on the story, Leah Felix, Leah Vladimir and Leah / OC. I'm not a fan of Leah / Jacob.

Chapter 14: Near Dark
Edward doubled over in pain. The poison had risen from below and reached his mouth. He vomited. In a few seconds he saw Leah's entire life. Her humble childhood, but full of affection starting with her parents' love for her. He saw the immense love she had and has for Seth. The love for her parents, her friends and Sam, since she was a child. He saw how he looked at her. Too youngs to understand that kind of love, but already present at a tender age. They had chosen each other without realizing it. He saw Emily and the love they had for each other. He saw Sam between them when her cousin was going to LaPush. He saw how Sam never stopped loving Leah. Sam saw Emily, but there was nothing between them at the time. They had not chosen each other.
He saw her serenity adolescence, always lived simply even though she had dreams in the drawer that would never come true: like classical dance, playing the clarinet or the cello. Or both. He saw her love for art instilled since she was a child by Jacob's mother. He saw the moment in which they both realized they loved each other. The promises, the kisses, their unions so full of love. He saw her commitment to school and the indecision between choosing her mother's job or that of a teacher for small children. She saw her collaboration in the family household. He saw the serenity and peace that her presence gave to Sam when he was close to his first transformation.
And then he saw the pain of Sam's disappearance, the happiness when he returned, the worry for the boy's secrets and the despair for the loss of her beloved.
He saw the anger, the frustration, the humiliation and the hatred towards herself. He saw the detachment of her family in favor of her ex and her cousin. He saw her loneliness before and after the transformation. He saw the love that despite everything she continued to feel for all of them: cousin, parents, pack and elders. He saw the love that never died for Sam. He saw how such love was judged by everyone else: a vulgar obsession. He saw how it was judged by the elders: an irrelevant feeling, without importance compared to the imprinting... nonexistent, weak. He saw the suffering for the loss of her father and the hatred she felt for herself increase. He saw her first surrender. When she was forced to accept Sam's imprinting on Emily. He saw Emily’s response: “I’m so glad you understood the situation, that Sam and I couldn’t do otherwise, that we had to love each other, because we are soul mates…” He saw how she tried to repress all her pain and loss, with a different pain. He saw the wounds she inflicted on herself.
He saw the efforts she made to please the pack, the elders, her mother, Sam and Emily. He saw how she scarred both sides of her face, clinging to the illusion that she had been abandoned because she was hideous at the sight of her Sam. He saw everything. Including Rosalie and Irina’s pain. He saw them and he understood them through Leah’s eyes and heart.
And finally he saw her second surrender. She had surrendered to the way everyone saw her: a sour bitch, a bitch, a witch… An object used by fate to make sure that Sam would eventually meet Emily. A theory also supported by the Quileute elders and by Jacob himself… a stupid chicken. Unworthy of the ancestors. And Jake’s imprinting with a half-vampire had given her the final blow. For her that event was a confirmation that supported her theory: she was a freak of nature, a defective body, a girl without value and without a backbone. A girl who did not deserve to have the imprint because she did not deserve to have such a gift, nor did she deserve to be the imprint of one of them, because she did not deserve to be the gift of another wolf boy. She did not deserve to be loved even by her parents and all the people that they knew her a lifetime. This had completely emptied her. Edward knew what the next step was. The point of no return. He shivered at the thought. The venom reached the vampire’s tear ducts.
The boy looked at Sabrina. The girl was crying too, as was Jenna.
“Do you realize that what she went through, with your arrival to Forks, was never fair? Imprinting included? You can understand Edward... you can.”
The young man nodded. He couldn’t stop crying and vomiting.
“Edward, you all have justified the injustices that Leah has had in her life. And that’s not fair either, and it’s totally wrong. Come on Jenna, let’s leave him…”, Sabrina didn’t finish her sentence, because Bella came in at that moment.
“Edward,” she called alarmed, “What have you done to him… MONSTERS.”
Sabrina got really angry this time.
“You can call me a monster, but not my family.”
Bella looked at her defiantly.
“Use your power on me,” the vampire said arrogantly.
Jenna smiled. She knew Sabrina couldn’t use her power because of Bella’s shield, but the little hybrid could use hers against her, because she could easily get past the girl’s mental shield. She screamed and threw her down.
“Cowards,” Bella said.
“You prefer a hand-to-hand fight. I’m ready,” Jenna urged.
Bella was about to attack, but her husband stopped her.
“Stop, my love,” she said.
“No, look at what they did to you. You threw up, you cried… you have.” Bella didn’t finish her sentence. She looked at her husband in dismay. He smiled bitterly.
“It seems when the emotion you feel is too strong we can cry too… and throw up.”
Edward hugged his wife. “It’s all thanks to the hybrids that we discovered this,” he whispered. The boy saw his father out of the corner of his eye watching the scene with scientific curiosity. This made the boy smile.
Suddenly everyone looked at Jake. The boy was fidgeting.
“Vampire,” Jake said.
“What, Jake, what did you say?” Jenna asked.
“Vampire,” the boy repeated.
“It must be that monster. That crazy doctor,” Edward said.
“No, Jake doesn’t talk about him like that,” Sabrina said.
“Vampire… danger.”
“Jake, breathe and try to be clearer,” Sabrina said.
“Vampire… Italy… danger.”
“Vampire, Italy, danger. What does that mean,” Emmett asked, slightly upset.
Alice ran downstairs with Jasper.
“Demetri is coming back to Forks,” she said quickly.
“When?” Carlisle asked worriedly.
“I can’t say for sure, but I think it’s close, very close.”
“That’s what Jake was talking about.” The head of the family looked at his son. He had loved the child right away.
“He mustn’t find them,” Esme said worriedly. “We have to hide them,” she continued.
“They have to go back to their home. It’s the safest place for them now,” Eleazar said.
Everyone agreed. Edward suddenly turned around. Leah had woken up and entered the room.
“Leah honey, are you okay?” Esme asked worriedly.
Leah didn’t answer. She was puzzled.
“Leah it’s okay,” Edward said, “There’s a reason you’re here.”
“Seth. Where’s my brother, I was with him…”
“Seth is okay Leah, now you just have to calm down.”
The boy looked at Jasper and he immediately used his power. Leah relaxed. Esme made her sit on the couch, while Carlisle started asking her some questions. Leah didn't remember anything, not even about the vampire she had met with Seth. She simply said that they had gone into the forest to look for a bloodsucker and after... the dark.
Bella grimaced, she didn't like the way she called vampires. Edward couldn't read his wife's mind because of the shield, but he understood what was bothering her. He came closer to reassure her. The vampire looked at him surprised. Edward usually scolded or glared at Leah, but this time he didn't.
The wolf girl felt weak and tired, but she also sensed something different in her.
“It’s okay Leah, you don’t have to worry. We will fix this,” Edward said.
“What problem?” The girl asked.
Jasper continued to use his gift to keep the shapeshifter calm. The girl heard them speaking softly. Even though the sound was barely audible to a normal wolf boy, Leah could hear everything perfectly. Her senses were even more heightened now. When she heard the name Volturi, the wolf girl disappeared in the blink of an eye.
oOo
“My brothers, Demetri just announced that he will be arriving in Seattle in a few minutes and at the Cullens in the late afternoon. Soon we will know what our dear friends are hiding.”
Caius growled slightly.
“Don’t worry my dear Caius, if the Cullens are doing something wrong they will be punished as they deserve.”
“You said that last time too,” he replied angrily.
“Last time my brother we were not prepared.”
“We are not prepared now either brother,” Marcus said boredly.
“That’s true, but this time we know what we are facing and Demetri will give us more information. Also our pursuer will bring the only wolf of the reserve. She will also give us the information we want,” Aro said amusedly.
“No.”
The voice came from behind the thrones of the lords of Volterra. They turned and saw a frightened young woman. The girl’s irises glowed an electric blue hue and dilated slightly. She disappeared in the blink of an eye.
“What was that,” Caius growled.
“I don’t know,” Aro said curiously, “But I’ll find out.”
Leah's rendition is inspired by parts of the last book and the last movie. So not entirely out of place. As for Sam and Leah's love, I imagined that they could have had feelings for each other at a very young age. They've known each other for a lifetime, they must have played together many times. And I think Emily also knew Sam for a long time, since she was like a sister to Leah. If I remember correctly, Jacob also had feelings for Bella when he was still a child. One of the things I like about Leah is that she asks questions. But this bothers others (they always silence her, even Jacob), because they are ignorant and prefer to live in their ignorance rather than question themselves and try to find answers or try to break certain magical bonds. And they don't want to listen. Leah is invisible to them.
“I’m so glad you understood the situation, that Sam and I couldn’t do otherwise, that we had to love each other, that we were forced to love each other, because we are soulmates according to the supernatural world…” I’m afraid I didn’t write this sentence well. The intention was to make fun of Emily’s response. How can you say something like that to a friend of yours who is suffering for love, because you are her substitute in the heart of (her) boyfriend? And I think they said something similar in the saga… or in the guide. It’s nauseating. Just as it’s sickening how Sam and Leah’s love is considered after the boy’s imprinting: irrelevant, unimportant. So even the love that united Jacob and Bella should be considered like that. But we all know that’s not the case.
For the title I took inspiration from the movie: Near Dark by the Oscar winner Kathryn Bigelow. A movie about vampires, beautiful. If you have the chance go see it. For me it is worth it. Also read The Silver Kiss by Annette Curtis Klause. A book from the 90s, about vampires. It reminds me of Twilight, but it was written a decade earlier.

Chapter 15: Demetri
Leah found herself in her house. She heard the voices of her mother Sue, Billy, Sam, Paul and Emily. She heard them talking about her and Seth. She heard Paul's altered voice angry with her. He said that she had disappeared and had involved her brother only to boycott her cousin and her husband so they wouldn't be given this house.
-My house, the house where I grew up... because they want my house-
She listened more carefully and heard her mother say that she hadn't told her anything so she wouldn't have to argue with her.
When Sam and Emily got married they went to live in the den used by all the wolf boys and their companions. It was her mother who said that it wasn't the right place for a young couple and that she would find a solution. Her wedding gift to them.
-But not this house, not this one- Leah began to cry softly.
She heard Emily’s voice say that she and Sam could move into the little house with the white picket fence. The same house Sam wanted to buy for Leah when they were still together and wanted to get married.
The young Clearwater girl fell to her knees, but she got up almost immediately when she heard her ex-boyfriend’s hurried footsteps, as he climbed the stairs. She didn’t want to see him, not after yet another nasty thing fate had in store for her. But she was also afraid of his reaction and of what she had become. She wasn’t herself anymore and she was afraid of herself. She wished she had wings in that moment. She disappeared in the blink of an eye. A few seconds later Sam entered her room, but there was no one there. The boy only smelled a very sweet scent: vanilla and ginger.
“LeeLee,” he said in a breath.
oOo
Leah didn’t know where she was. All she saw were small airliners. She didn’t understand how she was able to move so quickly from city to city, from state to state. She started to tremble when she smelled a very sweet perfume, but which reminded her ofthe stench ammonia.
-Vampire- she thought.
“How lucky to meet you here, wolf woman,” a silken voice said from behind her.
Leah could feel him approaching, but not at vampire speed. She noticed that there were other people nearby... humans.
“Let me introduce myself. My name is Demetri, Demetri Volturi.”
-He’s one of the Italian vampires.- Leah took a deep breath. She had to stay calm.
“I didn’t realize wolf women smelled so good. Thinking back, I sense something different now; you’re different, wolf girl,” he continued.
He was close. Leah could hear the rustle of his robes. She thought about how to get back to the Cullen house, she thought about her brother Seth. He was gone in the blink of an eye.
oOo
The girl returned to the Cullen mansion next to her brother. The boy was awake now, along with Mike and Evan. Doctor Cullen’s ministrations had allowed the boys to wake up earlier than expected. Edward approached Leah.
“What’s happening Edward?” Leah asked tearfully.
“Leah, you’ve undergone a transformation. You’re no longer a shapeshifter, but a vampire-wolf hybrid,” the young Cullen said.
“What?” The wolf girl was worried, but not distressed. Jasper was using his power.
“It’s okay Leah, it’s not…”
“No damn it, it’s not okay.” Leah wanted to scream, but Jasper’s gift kept her calm.
Eleazar meanwhile approached Carlisle. He whispered that the girl could teleport, while her brother was telekinetic. Leah had heard everything, as had Seth.
“Oh that’s great, I have a power like you?”, the little wolf boy said enthusiastically.
Edward looked at Seth, then Leah and finally Sabrina. He mentally asked his sister to manipulate Leah and Seth’s minds to keep them calm and not hear what he had seen in the wolf girl’s mind. Sabrina agreed.
“Daddy Leah has been to the Volturi.”
“What, what did that stupid girl do,” Bella said angrily.
“Love is not her fault. She needs to learn to handle her power.”
“Why do you defend her, what happened to you, darling,” Bella asked.
“Now I know the truth, my love. I think I always knew, but I denied it to myself, because it was easier to hate her,” Edward said in a whisper.
Edward looked at his father.
“She saw, or rather sensed Demetri. He arrived at the private airport in Seattle. He’s here on Aro’s orders. He realized we’re hiding something, he wants her too,” she said, pointing to Leah.
“How did she figure that out?”
“I don’t know, I just saw Aro’s conversation with his brothers. I saw it through Leah’s mind.”
“What do you think he wants from her?”, Carlisle asked.
“Nothing good,” the boy replied.
The Denali girls helped the hybrids, Didyme and Irina, return to Forks. Seth and Leah, still monopolized by Sabrina’s power, accompanied them.
“We will stay here and welkome Demetri in without any problem. The tracker must not suspect anything,” said Dr. Cullen.
“We have a problem though. Demetri saw Leah. He knows where to find her. He can track all of them because he monitored the shifters during our encounter with the Volturi.”
“Add this problem to the mix. In my vision, little Evan was imprinted with Alec,” Alice said.
“Are you sure?” her father asked.
“Yes,” she said dryly.
“I don’t know if that was really imprinting,” Edward continued. “It was different from Jacob’s and the other wolf boys. But there was still a very strong attraction between them. A supernatural attraction on Evan’s part and… I think Alec had a classic love at first sight.”
“Maybe as a hybrid he has a totally new imprinting,” Carlisle said.
“What happens now? If Demetri goes to them first…” Esme couldn’t finish her sentence.
“Why don’t we warn Mike. His power can neutralize Demetri’s and Sabrina can monopolize his mind,” Eleazar suggested.
“Good idea, my friend,” Carlisle said.
oOo
Demetri arrived in the late afternoon. He hadn’t gone to the reservation or to Forks yet, also because at a certain point he could no longer perceive the shapeshifter’s presence.
From where he had settled he could see the Cullens. He understood that they were waiting for something, or someone, even if they pretended not to know anything about his arrival. As a good tracker he had learned to read lips, body movement, gesture language and facial expressions. He had also trained himself to shield his mind to prevent their reader from reading his thoughts.
He saw an open window and jumped in. The boy guessed that it must have been the room of the Cullens' granddaughter when she came to stay with her grandparents. He looked carefully at the space until his gaze was struck by a series of photos. They all portrayed the same girl. A very beautiful girl with eyes and hair as black as ebony, skin the color of copper. The shape of her eyes was slightly almond-shaped and surrounded by thick, long eyelashes. Full, inviting lips, a swan-like neck and high cheekbones. Strong features, but also fine, sweet and somehow, noble.
-*Chi sei mia bella- thought the vampire in Italian
The woman's face was frowning, but the hound cared little. He found the girl irresistible. He smiled persuasively, took one of the photos and put it in the inside pocket of his coat. He left as he had come in, but first he wanted to do an experiment. He had noticed that despite his thoughts on the young woman portrayed in the photo, no one had intervened. Not even Edward. He then thought of something bad to do to the little human vampire. Edward did not even approach the room. Demetri understood that Bella's shield could shield protect them from his power, but it protected him too from their power. The boy appeared at the main door, next to Bella's father who had just arrived. In his hand the man was holding two thermos containers.
“Good evening,” the vampire said politely.
“Good…”, Inspector Swan didn’t finish the sentence. He froze, looking at the vampire’s red eyes. Demetri had forgotten to put his contacts in.
“Can I help you, Mr…?”, the vampire said.
“Charlie, Charlie Swan,” the man replied.
“Swan? Are you related to Bella?”, the boy asked, increasingly curious.
“I’m her father. Are you one of the Cullen family’s guests?”
“Yes,” he replied.
The boy smiled even wider.
“Let me give you a hand,” he said politely.
“Thank you, son.”
The young vampire smiled as he heard the man call him son. If it was Felix in his place, he would have torn him to pieces. He took the airtight containers. He could smell blood inside them. Animal blood.
Mr. Swan knocked on the door.
“It’s me guys, I brought what you asked for the new ones.”
Demetri couldn’t stop smiling. Unknowingly, the man was giving him information. He heard Esme’s relieved voice from inside the house saying that it was Charlie and not Demetri and that their boys were safe for now. The woman opened the door.
“Thank you Mr. Swan,” Esme said.
“You’re welcome. One of the boys you host helped me,” the man replied.
“One of the boys… Mike why are you here, you have to protect your family with your power, especially Leah, Aro wants her…”
“Good morning Esme,” the boy said.
Esme looked at the young man and fell backwards. She was scared. Demetri watched the scene curiously. He had learned many things.
“Where should I put them?” he asked calmly.
“Esme, is everything okay?” Charlie asked worriedly. He hadn’t understood much of what Esme had said, but he had a hunch that these were the kinds of things that were best left not know.
Carlisle ran to his wife to help her up. The Volturo entered without any problems. He headed into the open kitchen and placed the containers on the table. The boy began to sniff the air. There were several scents he recognized: those of the Cullens, those of the Denalis, Renesmee, and a weredog. He smelled two familiar scents. One reminded the boy of Irina’s perfume, the other of the immortal girl killed almost two years ago. But it was other scents that caught his attention, including that of the wolf girl.
He thought back to his encounter with her. He was about to touch her when she suddenly disappeared. Thanks to his power, he knew that at that precise moment she had gone to the Cullens. But now he no longer felt her presence. He began to ask himself some questions: how had she managed to escape like that? Why couldn't he hear her anymore? Two questions that he would have to find the answer to. He couldn't return to Volterra empty-handed.
This story is longer and different than the original one I wrote years ago with my nik-name: UffaUffaUffa on Efp.
For me Sue is capable of doing something like that. This and more about the golden couple of LaPush, and I read similar things in some fanfics. As for Paul's reaction, he, like the other wolf boys, is pro-Emily. Leah's cousin has bought everyone's affection. I don't love Sam, I hate Emily. And finally Demetri arrived.
Documentary moment: if someone is wondering why he remembers Irina and Bree's smells... it's thanks to the olfactory bulb that is located next to the hippocampus. Smells can remain in our memory for years and years and are connected to episodic memory with clear images linked to our past. I know something about it.

I apologize for the huge delay
Chapter 16: the situation it's getting away from us
Carlisle tried to take control of the situation.
“Good evening Demetri, what is the reason for your visit,” he asked calmly.
“Good evening Carlisle. My master Aro was a little uncomfortable leaving you like that. He asked me to offer his apologies,” the Volturi guard said equally calmly.
“You didn’t have to come in person, you could have called.”
“We don’t have your phone number,” Demetri replied amusedly.
Dr. Cullen raised an eyebrow.
“Maybe I interrupted something,” Demetri asked.
“You didn’t interrupt anything,” Esme replied coldly.
“Carlisle, I’ve never seen a modern house, could you be my guide and show me the house?”
“No, you have to leave,” Mrs. Cullen hissed.
Dr. Cullen saw the amused expression on the Italian vampire’s face.
“Esme my love, Demetri is a guest,” he said, more to reassure the hound than his wife.
“Aro said you’re an architect. Did you design the house, my dear Esme?”
“Yes,” he said simply, “Every house we’ve ever lived in.” The woman was as tense as a violin string.
Demetri was smiling. He loved teasing his opponents.
“And the scents instead, who chooses them”, asked the Italian vampire.
“The scents!!”
“Yes, I smell different scents like that of freshly cut grass, fresh and pungent, I like it. The other scents are not bad either. The smell that reminds of wood and moss takes me back to the woods around Volterra…”. Demetri noticed Esmee’s shiver. He understood that the woman cared about the person who had that scent. He had understood that those scents did not belong to the essences of the house. “The scent”, he continued, “of the sea breeze takes me back to the Aegean Sea. Then there are the others: freshly baked bread, jasmine, berries, orange blossoms and spices. But my favorite is the scent that reminds me of vanilla mixed with ginger. Sweet and spicy at the same time”.
Renesmee let out a little cry. Demetri didn’t say anything, but looked at the girl out of the corner of his eye. The boy smiled slightly.
-Two people they care about. One is a wolf, the other one is not. Aro was clear about that. There is only one wolf girl. Maybe she is a vampire… maybe, but something tells me otherwise. Vampires don’t smell like that. Except for the berry smell. One of them is a vampire- he thought.
“There are also two other scents. One is like Irina’s scent, the other is like that of the immortal girl killed almost two years ago.”
Demetri watched the Denali girls’ reaction.
“Oh, I’m sorry, the memory of your sister is still there.” The vampire used a tone of fake pain mixed with a hint of irony.
The tracker looked at each member of the two clans present. They were all hiding something. All except Bella's father who was watching the whole scene with apprehension. His eyes settled on Renesmee and Jacob. He saw how protective he was of the little girl. Aro had told everyone the stories of the packs, of the imprinting. He hadn't said much about the wolf girl. He only said that she was unique, and the only wolf.
He knew how much Aro loved rarities, and even more so unique things and people.
He had lost the battle, but not the desire to have at least a trophy and she was the prize that, for the moment, his master wanted.
-If he wants you so much you must be really special wolf girl- he thought
Demetri looked at Edward. He saw his effort in trying to read his mind, but he couldn't thanks to Bella's shield. The woman had projected it on all the people present. She protected them, and unknowingly protected him from them too.
“So this tour of the house?”
“Why the interest?” Esme asked nervously.
“Just curiosity. We rarely go into other vampires’ homes. Most of the vampires we meet are nomads, except Amon. His house is very interesting.”
“Yes, it is,” Carlisle said with a fake smile on his lips.
Demetri was about to get up and see the Cullens’ house when he noticed a worn notebook with a black cover. It was a discordant note compared to the rest of the furniture. He was about to pick it up when Dr. Cullen started talking in an attempt to distract him.
“Do you know Demetri that you have a brother?”
“I’m an only child Carlisle.”
“Yes and no. When we bite someone to transform them we also administer a bit of our DNA through the poison.”
“So he’s talking about Benjamin.”
“Yes, wouldn’t you like to meet him?”
“Why should I? I don’t think he’s happy about having a brother who’s part of the Volturi guard.”
“I was one of you Demetri. And yet here I am with the Denali clan and my mate.”
“I wonder how long Denali will last,” the tracker said smiling. “And anyway, Doctor, if we really do pass on some of our DNA… then it’s as if she married his daughter.”
Demetri watched Esme’s reaction with amusement. She was shocked and annoyed by the Volturi guard’s audacity and rudeness. Eleazar didn't lose his composure, while Carlisle managed a smile. Demetri turned around and saw that the notebook was gone. He turned to the others and noticed that Garrett was throwing the object away. He saw Renesmee looking at the vampire in fear. The vampire gave the little girl a quick wink. The hound stopped looking at them. He wasn’t stupid, he understood that the old and worn notebook was very important to them, especially to the little girl. He would take it, one way or another.
“I’d actually like to see the weredog reserve too.”
“Wolves, you bloodsucker,” Jacob said irritably.
“We have a treaty with them. None of us invade their territory and they don’t invade ours.”
“Oh, interesting. And your treaty also includes having them among your ranks?”
“It was necessary, you wanted to kill my Nessie.” Jacob hugged Renesmee even tighter.
“Oh yes, imprinting.”
“How do you know about imprinting?” Jacob asked.
“That’s enough. Jake, go up with her,” Bella urged.
“She doesn’t know anything about imprinting,” Bella whispered to the wolf boy.
Jake was about to go up, when Renesmee stopped him.
“Mom I know everything actually.”
“What? Jacob I told you she wasn’t supposed to know anything about this”
“It wasn’t him mom. I had a mental connection with Sabrina. She wasn’t able to stop it. It all happened in an instant.”
“Who is Sabrina?” Demetri asked.
Eleazar positioned himself behind Carlisle.
“We’re too nervous, the situation it's getting away from us,” he said in a whisper.
Demetri watched the scene with amusement. Then his gaze settled on Bella’s father.
“Mr. Swan,” he said politely, “Since you don’t bat an eyelid about it, I’d say you know everything.”
“He don’t know anything,” Bella said.
“And I don’t want to know anything,” Charlie said.
“Then you should step away. I’m going to ask some pretty personal questions. Although you’ve heard a lot… too much already,” Demetri said.
Bella took her father to Carlisle’s study. When she returned, she was angry at the way the Italian vampire had looked at her father.
“What do you want to know?”
“I’ll tell you the truth. Aro is curious about weredogs.”
“Wolves, you idiot. And we’re shapeshifters, not werewolves. Tell your boss we’re not going to be his guard dogs.”
“No, not one of you? Aro was sure there was someone expendable among you.”
Renemsee and Edward flinched. They both knew who the tracker was referring to. The girl’s father tried again, but to no avail, to read Demetri’s mind. He didn’t understand why he couldn’t. Only Mike could inhibit his power, but he wasn’t there. Bella barely touched her husband’s hand.
“My love, are you using your power by any chance?”
“Yes.”
“Then it's that. Your power protects us from him, but it also protects him from us. I can’t read his mind.”
“Don’t ask me to stop using my gift. I’m afraid of what might happen.”
“I know, honey, but I have to read his mind. He’s not just here for Leah. Aro knows we’re hiding something.”
“Ok” Bella said nervously.
Bella was about to pull back her shield when a rather heavy stone hit the Volturi guard.

Chapter 17: Clash
Several rocks hit the hound and the men of both clans, including Jacob. Demetri saw a figure dressed in black, part of his face was covered by a hoodie. The person in question reached out and made a challenging gesture with his hand towards the inhabitants of the house.
None of them moved. The man outside hit Demetri’s house pendant with a rock. This was an affront the tracker could not ignore. He broke the rest of the glass and began to chase the person who had challenged him. Who had challenged all of them.
Emmett was the first to chase the pursuer and his prey for three reasons: one, he too had been hit by a nice big rock that had left a mark on his face, two, he loved a challenge and three, he wanted to know who had dared to challenge his family, his friends and the Italian clan. The Italian clan was what it was, but if you challenged one of them, it was like challenging the whole family. They were united like his family, but for different reasons.
oOo
Demetri arrived in the exact center of the forest. He looked around slightly confused. It was the first time anyone had managed to escape them. He didn't feel his presence, only the smell of the snowy forest. A few minutes later the Cullens and the Denali arrived and surrounded the boy. Esme had gone to her children and Jacob had brought Bella's father, along with Renesmee, to the Rez.
"What do you think you're doing," Demetri said slightly irritated.
"I'm just here to see who threw stones at us," Emmett said with feigned boredom.
"Isn't he one of yours?" the Italian vampire asked suspiciously.
"No, he would have only targeting you. We don't know who he is," Carlisle said.
"No! Really?" Demetri's tone was irreverent.
"Damn it, leave him to me," Emmett said ready to attack the vampire.
Emmett charged at him, but some rather large rocks made the boy lose his balance. Everyone turned and saw their attacker on a thin branch that was swinging slightly. The branch was too thin to support anyone's weight, but strangely it didn't break. Garrett watched the scene curiously and a slight suspicion entered his mind.
Emmett charged again, but this time towards the newcomer, but he failed to hit him, because the latter jumped a few seconds before his opponent arrived. Emmett found himself on the other side of the tree, stuck between some branches.
The man in black challenged them all again.
Carlisle looked at Edward, who looked at Bella. His wife made it clear to her companion that she had no intention of stopping protecting them with her shield.
Demetri was the second to attack the black man, but he was hit by a side kick that threw him on poor Emmett. They both fell badly to the ground.
One by one they attacked the boy, but they were all thrown to the ground. Kate tried to use her gift, but she couldn't use it. Bella realized at that moment that she couldn't use her shield. It wasn't her who was inhibiting the vampires' powers.
The vampires managed to climb to the top of the tree again.
“Well done boy, you used a move from Muay Thai and Kung Fu, but at the same time you put into practice the philosophy of Hapkido using the peyang of your opponents. Very good, but they are not the only martial arts you know seeing how you stay balanced on that branch without breaking it... Shao Lin Quan if I remember correctly”.
This time it was the hooded boy who applauded.
“What the hell are you talking about. And then what is peng”, Emmett asked angrily.
“Martial arts Emmett. Muey Thai is Thai, Kung Fu is Chinese, Hapkido is Korean, while Shao Lin Quan it's that too Chinese. Peyang and not peng is physical strength, he used and controlled yours, ours to hit us. As a nomad I have visited several places and seen things that you vampires can not even imagine”.
The young man challenged the group again. This time it was Demetri who attacked. He wasn’t as hot-headed as Felix, but he wasn’t going to be made fun of. He had even forgotten Aro’s orders: discover, report and bring. A peculiarity of the Italian tracker was the speed with which he struck his opponents. He hoped to surprise him, but he didn’t succeed, because the boy threw him to the opposite side of the two clans, with an incredible back flip performed on one leg. He fell back to the same point and started dangle again.
Garrett only then noticed that their opponent was no longer leaning on a branch. The individual’s feet were touching the foliage.
“He studied with Sihung, there’s no point in hitting him. He’s stronger than us,” Garrett said softly: “What do you want, why did you attack us?”
The black man didn't answer, he just watched them, his arms crossed. Suddenly he snap. With a back kick he hit Emmett's throat who was hoping to surprise him from behind. The vampire fell and found himself on the ground.
The newcomer touched his head briefly in greeting and the corners of his mouth slightly curved. He lunged so quickly that he caught his opponents off guard. They tried to chase him but they didn't catch him. He was faster than them. Emmett was irritated.
Carlisle looked around and noticed that Demetri was no longer there. He sniffed the air hoping to catch his scent, but that boy being a bloodhound was even better than Victoria at covering his tracks.
“Let’s go home, we have to warn them, before it’s too late.”
“Dad, who could have been the person who attacked us?”
“I don’t know Jasper. I hope it’s not a new enemy.”
“If that’s the case, then it’s also an enemy of the Volturi,” Jasper said.
“Maybe a new clan,” Edward echoed.
oOo
Demetri arrived before the Cullens. He took the old diary still in the trash. He was about to read a few pages when he sensed the arrival of the house’s inhabitants, and their friends. He quickly went out and looked for a good observation point. From where he was he could see and hear, without being seen. He was smiling, he had guessed that Bella was using the shield. Now he could spy on them without any difficulty.

Chapter 18: Escape
“Who the hell was that,” Emmett growled.
“I don’t know. Edward?”
“I couldn’t read his thoughts.”
“Sorry, my love. You were all under my shield at first.”
“Interesting,” Eleazar said, “So your shield is able to protect not only us, but our opponents as well.”
“I didn’t know that. Edward figured it out with Demetri. Apparently when you’re under my protection, your powers stay inside it too… Sorry, I have to call Jacob and let him know.”
“I’ll call Esme…” Carlisle didn’t finish his sentence, because Esme stormed in.
“They left, they left this message.” Esme was desperate.
Demetri watched the scene carefully and was shocked when he saw Mrs. Cullen crying.
“They’re gone, they’re gone. I’ll never see my children again.” Esme collapsed to the ground.
Denali and her daughters approached the woman and held her up. Dr. Cullen read the letter the hybrids had left.
Sorry to say goodbye like this. But we can't stay any longer. If Aro finds out about the existence of other hybrids, he will do anything to have us in the Volturi guard. Not to mention that you all risked a lot to protect us from Dr. Frankenstein's creatures and we don't want our very existence to cause more problems for your families. Irina, the wolf girl and her brother will come with us. Aro must not find out that Irina Denali, like Bree Tanner, are still alive. Leah is terrified of her new mutation. Seth is not, but his sister fears the reaction they might have on the reservation towards them. Although I think they would have no difficulty with the wolf child. Edward and Carlisle know what I mean.
Mike will try to mislead the Italian vampire so that he, like his masters, do not suspect anything and do not hunt you again.
Bree has a gift for Renesmee. You will find it in our former home. You can take whatever you want. Irina is saddened to leave her beloved sisters like this, but she fears for their lives. She loves them very much, they will always be in her heart.
Thank you for everything. Goodbye.
The letter Carlisle held in his hand smelled of wood and musk. The scent of his daughter. It was stained with her tears.
“That’s why my power wasn’t working. It wasn’t you Bella, it was Mike.”
“Wait, is it Mike who attacked us?” Emmett said, shocked.
“We have to find them, my love, I can’t and won’t give up on them.”
No one had noticed Demetri’s presence yet. The vampire was processing every piece of information.
-Very interesting. From what I understand, the people they are protecting have gifts that Aro might be interested in. And if they talked about the reserve, it means that the wolf girl is also involved. Now she seems to be part of this group, even if I don't understand what her new mutation consists of. But that must be why I sensed something different in her. But I can't understand how Irina Denali can still be alive, though. I saw her die. And who is Bree Tanner? - he thought.
"I say we go to their house right away, maybe we can find a clue," said Eleazar.
"I'll call Jacob and ask him to bring Renesmee back. She knows them better than we do," said Bella.
Garrett walked over to where he had thrown the old notebook.
“Did any of you get that monster’s journal?”
“No, why?”
“I left it here, hoping to trick the tracker, but it’s gone.”
“Maybe it’s just been moved,” Eleazar said.
“None of us have that diary, Jacob or Renesmee must have it. I hope not my father. He was in serious trouble today,” Bella said.
“I know, my love. We can’t thank him enough for this.”
“Do you think Aro will hurt him?”
“Your father knows about wolves, and I think he knows we’re not human, but he doesn’t know exactly what we are.”
“Or he pretends not to know,” Rosalie said. “He mustn’t be involved anymore. And let’s hope that’s enough for Aro.”
“Last time Aro gave up…”
“That’s why Emmett. Aro doesn’t forgive or forget,” Rosalie said.
“Ros is right, unfortunately. We can expect anything. We mustn’t forget that he had some demands on Leah.”
-Leah, Leah. So that's your name, wolf girl. I think I have enough information, it's time to go home, but first I have to say goodbye to the Cullens properly- Demetri said to himself.
"Good evening Cullens."
Esme jumped when she saw the Italian vampire.
"I'm about to go home and I came to say hello."
"DAMN VOLTURI. IT'S ALL YOUR FAULT THAT THEY HAD TO RUN AWAY, IF I'll NEVER SEE MY CHILDREN AGAIN," Esme shouted.
Demetri smiled when he saw Esme's reaction.
"It doesn't seem like it to me your children ran away," he said nonchalantly.
The Denalis and the Cullen girls were struggling to hold Esme back. Edward was trying to read the vampire’s mind. But Bella had immediately projected her shield. She couldn’t help it. She was too nervous to think clearly.
“Just one thing, can you tell me who the girl in the picture is?”
“How have you get a picture of the she-wolf,” Emmett said.
Demetri’s eyes widened in shock and then smiled seductive.
“Thank you for your hospitality. Aro will be happy to know that you were not too upset by our visit and that you were not offended by the way we said goodbye to you. Give my sincere regards to your daughter and the dog boy. I imagine they are together now. If she were my daughter I would not leave her alone with a werewolf for so long.”
“Jacob is a shapeshifter, not a werewolf,” Bella said angrily.
“Thank you, Bella, for protecting me with your shield. Goodbye Cullens.”
Demetri ran faster than usual. He had to get to the Seattle airport as quickly as possible.
“What will happen now?” Bella said in alarm.
“I don’t know. I couldn’t read his mind, but I don’t think it’s over. Let’s prepare for a future visit from Aro.”
“We need to hunt down the hound,” Emmett said angrily.
“No, if he doesn’t return Aro will take revenge and this time he will be much more careful. He knows our allies, he could, with cunning, kill them one by one to avoid another uprising,” Carlisle intervened.
oOo
Demetri settled into his seat on the plane. He didn’t have the wolf girl with him, but with all the information he had acquired he was sure that Aro would forgive him for this oversight. He took out Leah’s photo and the diary.
-Soon you will be my wolf girl- he thought.
He began to read: Maybe I am one of the oldest vampires in the world, even older than Amon, the undisputed lord of the Egyptian coven…

Chapter 19: Departures...
Bree looked out the window of the school in Forks. She, Irina, and the other hybrids hadn't gone too far, because Mike had some things to sort out and then they had to choose a place to move. The boy was using his gift to try to contain the powers of the other vampires.
Sabrina was inclined to return to China to their Shifu. They had not seen him for almost 50 years, a century for her. Sihung was a very wise vampire. Perhaps the first of his kind to follow a very particular vegetarian diet. He drank the blood of animals killed by other beasts. He looked 50 years old, but his strength and quick reflexes were comparable to those of a bloodsucker in his twenties. He was a strong-willed person, his eyes did not have a milky coating, but were alive and always alert, like all the other senses.
Sihung lived in Angsong province near an ancient village. The inhabitants knew he was a supernatural creature, but they did not fear him. On the contrary, he protected them. Hong-Xidi was a village made entirely of wooden houses typical of the Ming era and inhabited by farmers and hunters. Simple people, but hospitable. Sabrina had baptized the village with the nickname of ‘Little Venice’ because of the small rivers crossed by small wooden and rope bridges.
But the most beautiful thing of all was the forest that surrounded him. The place was very isolated, but thanks to this it had always been possible to preserve the integrity of the entire structure of the village, to preserve almost medieval customs and habits. Sihung was rather grumpy, he only loved the simplicity of the villagers, for this reason he did not want students. The people of Hong-Xidi were not good for his training, and as far as vampires were concerned, he did not want to make them even more dangerous. But with them, strangely, he he did an exception. Sabrina thought back to the tranquility of the village, to the affection that bound her, that bound them all to they Shifu and to his beloved forest. She hoped that Mike would choose that proposal in the end.
Annie, on the other hand, couldn't wait to return to Buenos Aires. They had been there for a short time, during the rainy season between December and March. She loved the Argentine capital, the most European in Latin America. Most of the barrios (neighborhoods) were reminiscent of American and European cities: Abasto and Puerto Madero were reminiscent of New York, Retiro was reminiscent of London, while Monserrat seemed like a carbon copy of Paris. It was like traveling around the world while staying in one place. This was what she liked most about the city.
But Boca was her favorite. Inhabited almost exclusively by Genoese immigrants, it was the most picturesque and colorful neighborhood in the capital. Tango was born here and Annie literally went crazy for that dance. Together with her family, she had been lucky enough to meet Carlos Gardel, one of Argentina's most important composers.
She wanted so much to see the colors of Buenos Aires again, its liveliness, to smell its scents again, to breathe its culture again... she really wanted it so much, but in the end she didn't say anything, she didn't suggest any place. The Argentine capital wasn't right for Didyme, Bree and Irina. And not even for the new member: Corinne. Even though she was a hybrid created by Doctor Death, her skin shone both in the Sun and the Moon.
She sighed, watching Mike intent on choosing a place far enough away and safe. The boy turned for a moment and smiled. He knew his sisters very well, they were an open book to him.
Evan didn't have a favorite place, because she was more attached to people than places. Leaving Forks meant leaving Renesmee.
Didyme was sad too, especially for her kids. They had lovingly renovated and furnished the former printing house to make it habitable and comfortable. But looking at Bree, Irina and Corinne she understood that it was the right thing to do. If they stayed they would put their lives, the Cullens' and the Denalis' lives, in danger.
Corinne and Irina didn't think much about this. The first one had always lived with her creator since the day she was born. She didn't know the world. The second one only knew that she couldn't go back to Alaska.
The same thought crossed Leah's mind. She couldn't go back to La Push, she never wanted to go back. After the mutation, she and her brother had undergone several changes. Not just their smell. Like other hybrids, they were stronger, more agile, and faster. They could still transform and their size hadn't changed, except for their fur. The girl's seemed to be made of silver threads, while the boy's was the color of gold. In contact with sunlight, Seth's fur shone like vampire skin. On the other hand, Leah's, shone under the moonlight. Not to mention their gifts. Sabrina had informed Leah of astral energy and that she had been able to use this power since birth.
His brother Seth was curled up in his arms. He was crying silently. Unlike his sister, he didn't want to leave the reserve, he didn't want to abandon the pack, his friends, the Alpha.
Mike also had a favorite place: Australia. He had never seen it in person, he had fallen in love with it watching some TV series like 'The Lighthouse', 'McLeod's Daughters', various documentaries. He quickly put the idea aside, however, because for his mother, Denali, little Bree and the new member, it was more unlivable than Buenos Aires.
He turned and looked carefully at the people in front of him. He knew what they were thinking, at least the closest family members.
“Bree, where would you like to go?” Mike asked.
The girl turned around. Didyme came over and asked if she had a favorite place.
“I’ve never traveled, besides Forks I only know Seattle,” Bree said.
“Seattle is out of the question, nanì, it’s too close, tell me another one, it doesn’t matter if you’ve been there or not. Just say a place you’d like to see, but it shouldn’t be too sunny.”
“Mmm!! I’d like to see Finland.”
“Let’s go see Santa Claus, yes!!!”
Annie was so happy. It didn’t take much to make her happy.
“Take a chamomile, honey and then Santa Claus lives at the North Pole”.
“No, no, no, no. I saw a special about Lapland and Rovaniemi, the city where he lives. His village is 8km from the center”.
Seth, Leah and Irina looked at her strangely. Jenna instead giggled. She loved her sister’s spontaneity so much. Her always cheerful character, her always finding something beautiful and good, even in difficult times.
“Do you still believe in Santa Claus?” asked Seth.
“Yes”, she replied: “I like to believe in him, in his magic. As I like to believe in the existence of fairies, elves… After all, we exist, why shouldn’t they exist too”.
Leah’s eyes widened. Jenna instead burst into a hearty laugh.
“I love you, big sister,” the little girl said.
“Well Bree, tell me why you want to go there,” Mike asked.
“I saw a documentary and I liked it, it had a fairytale landscape,” he replied.
“Fairytale, what a beautiful word,” Annie said dreamily.
“Do you think that’s okay?” Mike pressed.
“Yes, it’s the eighth largest country in Europe, but also the one with the least population density. I know the sun sets early and it’s already pitch black by 3:00 PM. But they also have the midnight sun... I don’t remember very well.”
“I’ll try to gather some information, honey.”
Bree smiled. They were the only ones who called her honey, baby... without any ulterior motive. Mike walked into the school’s computer room, turned on the computer, and connected to the Internet.
“Finland, Finland... my, how slow it is, even a zombie is faster… Lowest population density in Europe.... endless forests of pine, fir and birch.... long, cold, snowy and dark winters especially in the north with 51 days of darkness, perfect.... short and very bright summer... mmmm.... Midnight sun.... 19 hours of light.... damn, there are so many forests.... let's hope there's a wholesale meat consortium.... here it is.…”
“Good Bree, proposal approved, we're moving to Finland”
The boys went back to the former printing house to get their clothes. Mike had activated both his faculties in case there were any vampires around.
Leah and Seth did the same. They snuck into their house and took their stuff. They left only a note....
Farewell
They had tried to write a letter, but the words were suffocated by sadness and tears. The thought of leaving everything oppressed them.
They quickly reached the new clan. The only one missing was Mike. He had given precise instructions, as soon as the two shapeshifters returned, they had to leave immediately. He would join them later.
The boy had gone to Bella's father's house. He was holding Scabies in his arms. When the man opened the door he found himself faced with only the dog. Attached to his collar was a note.
Please take care of him. He is affectionate and obedient, he will not cause you any problems. Remind the Cullens that they can take whatever they want from our house....
Thank you for everything
Charlie Swan immediately called Carlisle.

Chapter 20: Home Sweet Home
"How disgusting, they lived in this dump!"
Rosalie pursed her lip in disgust.
"Don't judge the building by the outside. The inside is really beautiful. Esme, you'll go crazy seeing how they decorated the whole place," said Carlisle.
Since they couldn't enter through the front door, the Cullens leaped over the wall and found themselves in the garden.
"Annie calls it the secret garden because it's so hidden from prying eyes," said Renesmee. The little girl had returned home with Jacob.
Esme smiled and carefully examined the entire perimeter. It was lovely, and the recycled elements complemented each other well. Even the arrangement of plants and flowers was perfect.
Carlisle opened the glass door and found himself inside. Nothing had changed; the kids had left everything as they had the first time he'd been there. Even the two refrigerators still had their contents. Stuck on both was a post-it note that read: "Take what you like."
The doctor opened the door of the refrigerator containing the blood. Inside, neatly arranged and dated, were airtight containers.
The wife looked around. She wasn't much for makeshift furnishings, but this was different. It was beautiful and full of personality. Even Emmett's partner stopped grimacing.
“I hate to admit it, but they did a good job. Of course, they could have changed the floor.”
“No, Ros, it's perfect.”
Alice was thrilled. Emmett jumped up onto the mezzanine.
“Hey, these guys have books in their original language... wow, they know so many languages! There are volumes in Chinese and Japanese, I think.”
Renesmee spoke up. Her tone was a bit solemn.
They speak and write fluently not only in English, but also in German, French, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, Mandarin, Japanese, Russian, Greek, and Latin... they don't speak Arabic, Aramaic, or Gaelic, but they know traditional songs in those languages. According to Mike, vampires have an edge in learning quickly. And he considers himself doubly lucky, because he also inherited the genius side of the uncommon werewolves.
Rosalie raised an eyebrow. Of the group, she only knew Mike, and she couldn't believe it, she not succeed believe it, but above all, she didn't want to believe that he was more cultured and intelligent than her.
Alice hopped from one side of the room to the other until she noticed two different iron staircases: one led to the basement and the other to the bedrooms. She chose the latter.
In the hallway, several niches contained closets. They were painted, and each had a caricature of one of the hybrids on it. They weren't very large, except for the one for the household linens. The only one who still had its contents.
The doors to the respective bedrooms were covered with photographs of the subject to whom the room belonged.
She entered Mike's room. It was small and narrow. The furniture consisted of a simple military cot, a long wooden table supported by hydraulic pipes that served as a desk, and wooden fruit crates holding the books.
Alice was a little disappointed. She had expected the room to be as beautiful as the loft. She looked more closely at the walls and the volumes in the makeshift bookcase: the former were covered with very unusual technical drawings. In the latter, she found first editions of books on various inventors and scientists, including Tesla and Leonardo da Vinci's Codex Atlanticus.
She left, but took some drawings with her. They depicted the plate and the lens, and the strange typewriter she had noticed in the living room.
She entered Sabrina's room. It was slightly larger than the previous one. The desk and bookcase were from the 1940s. The bed, however, had been made from a wrought-iron garden bench from the same era. The books were all medical, strictly first editions. The walls were decorated with antique prints depicting the human body and various organs... and enlarged photographs. Alice's eyes widened when she saw the subject: her parents. She took down two photos, the most beautiful ones. One depicted Esme and Carlisle holding each other tightly and cuddling. Their love was palpable in that image. The other showed the entire Cullen family, the day Bella held her baby girl in her arms for the first time.
Annie's room had a drawing table, a wrought-iron bookcase, and a bed with the same decorations as the bookcase: flowers and leaves. The books were all art books, and for her, too, they were first editions. The wall, however, was decorated with small drawings, glued-on images, scraps of fabric, and wallpaper. It reminded Alice of the art room at school. One sketch caught her eye. It depicted a boy, but instead of a head was a giant cheeseburger. When she read the phrase underneath, she burst out laughing: Hamburger Face Edward.
She took the sketch and a ring binder. Inside were other drawings depicting the growth of Evan, Sabrina, and Jake: from birth to the end of their development.
Evan's room looked like a cloud. The furniture consisted of a 1950s desk made of natural olive wood, a bench identical to Sabrina's that served as a bed, and a 1950s bookcase painted white. The subtle colors decorated the walls and depicted the sky. She had illustrated books, and poetry books.
From the room, she took a notebook of poems she had written. She read only one: "Home, Sweet Home." Alice was moved.
"She must be the most sensitive in the group," she thought.
She entered the last three. The largest one belonged to Didyme. The furnishings were classic, no reclaimed materials, but beautiful walnut furniture from the early 1900s. Mike had probably decorated the entire room. From what she'd seen in the last few days, the boy adored his mother. The bookcase was full of photo albums and biographies: The Secret Life of Marie Antoinette, The Bronte Sisters...
She took all the albums.
Bree's surroundings were typically adolescent: from "The Baby-Sitters Club"-style books to posters of famous actors and singers. One thing, however, caught the vampire girl's attention: a wooden dollhouse painted blue. It was recently built, but it resembled a villa from the 1960s or 1970s. On the roof was a note: "For Renesmee."
The last one belonged to Jake. It was brightly colored, but not violently so. It was full of pillows and overturned boxes. There were no books, just a bed with a mosquito net and a desk with another mosquito net that hid the table legs. She had read somewhere that autistic people liked small places where they could hide and be more intimate.
She didn't take anything from the room, because there was nothing to take. The walls were covered with sheets of paper full of numbers, but none of them could decipher the code.
Alice returned to the others. She put everything down and returned to the second-to-last room to take the house. She was about to go back downstairs when she noticed several notebooks on the girl's desk. Journals. She put them inside the dollhouse and returned downstairs.
“And all this stuff?” asked Jasper.
“It was in their rooms. Sabrina took these photos.”
Esme and her husband were moved.
“Her entire room is covered with photos of yours. She has several medical books. She didn't become a nurse just to be closer to you; it's a true calling.”
Alice continued talking, handing Annie's drawings, Didyme's photo albums... and the dollhouse to Renesmee.
"Mike built it for Bree's birthday," the little girl said.
Emmett couldn't help but laugh when he saw his brother's portrait.
"There's a girl who hasn't succumbed to your charms."
Garrett looked at the photos in the albums; some were very old.
"Sihung, this is their teacher. What a liar, he told me he didn't take anyone as his student, especially vampires."
Rosalie's companion approached the man.
“So this is the guy who taught Mike martial arts, but he's an old man,” Emmett said.
“Don't let his age distract you. He's very strong, the strongest vampire alive.”
“Maybe they went back to him,” Esme said hopefully. “Honey, you have connections in Asian countries, could you…”
“Yes, honey, I can contact them and ask them for information.”
While the rest of the Cullens and Denalis looked at the photos, read Bree's journals, and Evan's poetry notebook, Eleazar arranged Mike's drawings on the table. They were so complicated, even he couldn't understand anything. He looked at the sketches and the three prototypes they depicted. He asked Bella's daughter if she knew what they were. Renesmee was overjoyed and demanded everyone's attention. His tone was more solemn than before.
“This is an autotype, meaning it works without batteries and is solar-powered. It looks like a common typewriter, just a little strange, but it's actually a device that transmits and receives at a discontinuous electromagnetic frequency that can't be intercepted. Mike only made a prototype. He built it with recycled materials around the end of the 19th century.”
The people present looked at each other. They were incredulous. To them, it was just a bizarre typewriter.
“Actually, he never tried it, but he knows it can do everything I described.”
“How presumptuous.” Rosalie had returned to her pedantic self.
“No, he isn't. And that'll tell you how intelligent he is.”
She took the engraved metal plate and placed the lens over it. The object released several beams of light, and images began to emerge from the floor, initially blurry, then gradually clearer.
Finally, it revealed itself for what it was: a hologram of a city both ancient and futuristic. It was in perfect Steampunk style. Every free space in the building had been occupied by that 3D image. Jasper noticed that it was expanding outside, even into hidden corners of the room.
“It can't expand like that; a hologram can't reach that far.” Jasper was incredulous.
“A normal hologram, uncle, but not this one.”
Alice approached her patner: “It's incredible, isn't it, it seems so real. Too bad it's just an illusion.”
The girl reached out and touched one of the streetlights. The flame flickered slightly, and the metal of the object made a small sound. She and Jasper looked at each other in surprise and confusion. The vampires were literally speechless. Even Ros had stopped harshly criticizing the hybrids. Everyone began touching the image. Emmett placed his hand on a moving train and stopped it. Rosalie touched the propellers of an airship... The Denalis were touching the walls. Esme picked up a image of a passerby. He was walking along the sidewalk. Even in midair, his legs kept moving. She put him back down, and he walked away.
Emmett was incredulous: “It can't be!! You can touch it, this is a hologram you can touch... Good heavens, Mike is a genius, and I thought he was just a silly, insipid, bleached boy.”
Rosalie's gaze fell first on her patner, then on her niece, who was smiling at her uncle.
“Mike calls it a physical hologram,” the little girl said.
Ros approached and stroked her head: “I’m sorry, honey, for the way I treated them and for what I said. You’re right, they’re amazing.”
“I’m glad you noticed.”
“You apologized, honey, you’re fine.”
“No, no, Emmett, I’m not fine. If I were fine, I wouldn’t have chosen such a beast as a life partner.”
“I love your sense of humor, my love.”
“What humor?” Jasper teased them lightly.
Toward evening, they returned home, carrying only Annie's notebooks, the photo, Bree's diary, and the containers containing the blood. Rosalie, before retiring to her room with Emmett, offered to keep the hybrids' house clean.
"Are you sure?"
"Yes, honey, and you'll help me."
"What?"
"If you do that, I'll let you play with Mike's inventions." She winked.
"Okay," his companion replied, amused.
Eleazar gave Carlisle a slight nod. The doctor followed calmly.
“Tell me, my friend.”
“Demetri will already be back in Volterra. We must prepare for a visit from Aro. I think Demetri has figured out we're hiding something. This time, Aro won't be lenient.”
“Four of them are Volturi, though. Five, counting Didyme.”
“That's true, but you know Aro will find a way to accuse you of something: Irina and Bree, for starters.”
“We'll have to mediate with him somehow. Find a compromise.”
“The only thing that will stop him are the hybrids. He'll want all of them, even your children. He'll use his best weapon, blackmail: the lives of your family, your friends... in exchange for theirs.”
Carlisle closed his eyes. He didn't want to give up his children, he didn't want to leave any of them in Aro's hands. Dr. Cullen knew that this time the Volturi wouldn't give up. None of them had realized that the black book of the hybrids creator was, now in Demetri's hands. No one had noticed that small theft.
The hologram and the "typewriter" are taken directly from the Canadian TV series Sanctuary.

Chapter 21: …and Arrivals
Demetri arrived at the Volturi's private airport. Santiago had come to pick him up, but the vampire asked for a short detour. He said he was hungry, even though his eyes were still crimson. He wanted to take some time. What he had read was shocking. He asked to be alone. Santiago agreed. He understood that something was troubling the tracker, but he didn't ask any questions. He didn't think it was essential. Demetri was an important member of the guard, a loyal follower.
The vampire took refuge inside one of the oldest churches in Volterra. He took Leah's photo. He looked carefully at the girl. He wondered how involved she was. He feared Aro and Caius's reaction, but not Marcus's. His Didyme was alive and had a child with her.
Santiago approached to urge the vampire. When they arrived, they were greeted by an ecstatic Aro.
“Oh my dear Demetri, how is my dear friend Carlisle?”
“He's fine, Master, very well.”
“And his beautiful and gifted family?”
“They're all fine. They were with the Denalis.”
“Of course, they consider the Alaskan coven their closest relatives. I imagine they're still reeling from the death of sweet Irina.”
“Not exactly Master,” Demetri said hesitantly.
Aro looked at the boy's demeanor. He knew immediately that something was wrong.
“Where is my wolf girl... my Demetri?”
The tracker held out his hand to his master, who took it longing.
“Interesting, more hybrids…”
“What?” Caius said angrily. “Have the Cullens created more abominations like Edward and Bella’s daughter?”
“Careful with your words, brother. Renesmee is magnificent, and apparently so are these other creatures, and you know something about that, my dear Demetri.”
The hound grimaced, remembering the duel between him and one of them.
“But I fear they've bitten off more than they can chew this time. The hybrids were created by them. Esme called them her children. She even cried for them… yes, my dear Caius, we can cry. Isn't that wonderful! But I wonder how they managed to hide the existence of new hybrids from me. I was sure I'd probed their minds thoroughly.”
Aro's eyes widened.
“What did you see?” Caius asked.
“Irina is alive.”
“Impossible. Felix and Demetri dismembered her, and I burned the remains.”
“She is alive, I tell you. Does anyone remember a certain Bree? Apparently the Cullens are hiding this girl.”
“Bree, my lord?”
“Yes, Alec, do you know who she is?”
“She was a baby created by Victoria. An immortal child, but she was dismembered and burned soon after.”
“Apparently she is alive too.”
“This is too much,” said Caius.
“Calm down, brother, there is still valuable information in our dear Demetri’s mind.”
“Still?”
“Yes. I fear this will spell the end for Carlisle and his entire family, but I could use this information to my advantage.”
“How?” Caius asked angrily.
“By blackmailing the Cullens. The most talented of them, in exchange for their lives.”
“And who do you want to get?”
“Alice, Edward, Jasper, Bella, and Renesmee, of course. And if they're so special, the other hybrids too. But I was thinking of taking Carlisle and Emmett too.”
“Because they both have no powers,” Caius said annoyed. He didn't mention the hybrids because he knew Aro wouldn't give up on enriching his 'collection' with something or someone unique or different.
“That's true, but Emmett is very strong, on par Santiago and Felix, and Carlisle… we've been friends for so long.”
“If you take them, you have to take their companions too. In short, the whole clan,” Marcus said boredly. “Do you have designs on the Denali too?”
“Of course, my dear brother. I let Eleazar go, but his gift is useful to me in enriching our family with very gifted members, and Kate… her power is so interesting.”
Aro probed Demetri's mind again. When he saw Leah's face, his expression was one of surprise, and then he smiled. Demetri had never seen a smile like the one on his master's face. It was luminous. As if he had seen the most precious thing in the world... or the most beautiful toy. One thing the hound was certain of: his master hadn't yet reached the diary section.
“What a magnificent surprise, my brothers. The beautiful young woman who came to visit us is the Quileute shapeshifter,” Aro said amusedly. Demetri looked at the Volturo in surprise, which made his master smile.
“How is that possible?” Caius growled.
“I don't know yet, perhaps she has a gift. I wonder if all shapeshifters have a gift. Do you, my dear Demetri, have any ideas?”
“From what I understand, she has changed,” replied the vampire… “Master, the young wolf, here, I…”
Aro's smile widened even further.
“I must give you credit, my Demetri, she is very beautiful. And her scent is so intoxicating, sweet and spicy. I have no objection to you two…”
“What do you mean, brother.” Caius was growing more and more nervous.
“Our beautiful wolf girl has won Demetri's heart. And he's only seen a picture of her. What struck you about her, my Demetri?”
Demetri smiled.
“I can't say exactly. I've never experienced anything like this. she struck me… her beautiful face, not even the most beautiful vampire can compete with my Leah. And then her eyes, those beautiful eyes veiled with sadness. She's different from all the women I've seen before… she…”
Demetri couldn't finish his sentence. He hadn't expected to feel attracted to a woman. He hadn't expected to fall in love simply by looking at a photo. He didn't understand why. She and he were different, and yet there was something, something that went beyond Leah's beauty… something indefinable that he had glimpsed in the girl's gaze:
-The light of her soul- thought the tracker.
Aro realized it was the same thing that had moved Marcus that day in Forks. He looked at his brother. He was smiling slightly. His eyes were shining again.
Aro smiled, but then his eyes widened. His face showed a look of shock and horror, and Demetri realized that master had arrived at read the last part of his mind.
“Give me the diary,” the vampire whispered.

I don't know how I came up with this chapter. It's probably the least appropriate. It's about abortion.
Chapter 22: Witches
"Jacob," Edward called, "I need to talk to you."
The boy approached the vampire.
“You have to go back to the reservation tomorrow and tell them everything.”
“I know, Edward, but I don't know how they'll take this whole story. I'm very worried about Leah and Seth. What if their change isn't accepted?”
“It's a risk we have to take. They need to know the truth. Especially Sue. They're her children. In fact, She is the first one who needs to be informed.”
“She'll tell the council everything, she can't keep it to herself.”
“Jake, I beg you to break a lance in their favor, especially for Leah, as well as for the hybrids.”
“I'll try.”
“Take Renesmee with you too. She's very fond of Leah and the others. If they don't listen to you, maybe they'll listen to her. She's an imprint, so she's sacred to all of you.”
“I don't want to involve her. She's already so upset about them leaving.”
“Please, we must make every attempt for their own good.”
“Okay,” Jacob replied simply.
The next day, Jacob drove his van to the Clearwaters' house. When he and Renesmee arrived, they found Sue, Sam, Emily, and Paul.
"Jacob, do you know anything about Leah and Seth?" Sam asked worriedly.
"Yes, but it's not good news."
"I knew it, Leah's boycotting you," Paul spat.
Renesmee frowned at the boy.
"Hi, little one," Emily said softly, trying to defuse the situation.
The little girl didn't wave back. Instead, she looked at Jake.
"Why are you here?" the little girl asked suspiciously.
"Sue was thinking of giving us her house for our life together," she said, smiling.
The little girl looked at Emily in surprise, then at Sue.
“This is Leah’s house. You have no right to give her house to them.”
“See, honey, I’m going to live with Charlie, and Seth will come with us.”
“Is it Leah? Haven’t you thought of her?”
“Leah is a woman; she will find a place of her own. The community will help her find housing,” said the older woman.
“This is Leah’s house… LEAH’S.” Renesmee began to cry.
Sue and Emily were shocked. They had never seen a reaction like that from Renesmee. She had always been sweet to them, or at least she had been. Then suddenly, she had changed. She still greeted them, but she was no longer friendly towards them.
“See, little one…” Emily didn’t finish her sentence.
“Shut up, you witch. You took Sam, bought the affection of her parents, her friends, the elders, and not content with that, now you want to steal her home too. You horrify me… HORROR.”
Emily began to cry. Sam approached her in an attempt to calm her down.
“Hold your imprint, Jacob,” Paul hissed.
“Or else,” Jake challenged.
“That’s enough,” Sue said. “We’ll talk about this another time.”
Emily, Sam, and Paul walked away.
“Sue, I need to talk to you. It’s about Leah and Seth.”
“What did Leah do this time?” the woman said tiredly.
“Why does it have to be Leah who did something wrong?” Nessie scolded.
“Sue, you better sit down,” Jacob said.
Jake told Sue everything. He started with the hybrids and ended with his children.
“Where are they now?” she asked worriedly.
“Do you really care?” the girl asked.
“Of course, Nessie, they’re my children.”
“Then why did you replace Leah with Emily?”
Sue was speechless as the little girl spoke to her like that.
“I didn’t replace…” Sue couldn’t finish her sentence.
“Don’t say you didn’t. I saw everything. Everything that was done to Leah to make things easier for Sam and Emily.”
“Baby, we couldn’t have done otherwise. Sam and Emily needed help.” Sue couldn’t fully understand what the little girl meant.
“You abandoned your daughter. She needed you, not Emily.”
“I never abandoned Leah…”
“No, didn’t you want to take her away from LaPush?”
“Yes, but she would have been with the family of a dear friend in Texas.”
“Texas, and why not further away?” the little girl spat. “You hurt your own daughter, stop making excuses.”
“Honey, no one hurt Leah…”
“I have to remind you about the abortion.”
Sue looked at the little girl in horror, while Jacob was shocked.
"Who told you about this? How can you..."
"I saw everything, everything. You killed your grandson, your first grandchild, Sue Clearwater, and you deceived your daughter to achieve your purpose."
"That child would have suffered, he wouldn't have had a father, it wasn't right for him..."
"Excuses, excuses... nothing but excuses. You did it so the child wouldn't have to undermine Sam and Emily's happiness. Their happiness is built on Leah's pain. How can you justify something like that? How can you justify all your actions, your actions... WITCH?"
Renesmee cried her eyes out
“Leah would have been a wonderful mother to the child. She would have been both a father and a mother to him and wouldn't have used the little one for revenge. She's not mean, but you are... as are all you. Leah would have had someone to love, and you took that away from her.”
“I…, I…” Sue was trembling. The words died in the mouth.
“Let's go, Jake. Leah and my friends deserve better. They don't need them.”
“Sorry, Sue. I'll see you later.”
Jacob returned to the Cullen house. The little girl had fallen asleep. Her eyes were puffy and red.
“Jacob, what happened?” Bella asked, alarmed.
The boy didn't answer. He simply looked at Edward.
“Thanks, Jake. You can go now"
“Edward, what happened?” Bella pressed.
“Our daughter is desperate. She wants her friends and Leah back.”
“How did she become so attached to Leah?”
“She learned the truth and she realized how wonderful Leah really is.”
Bella raised an eyebrow at hearing her husband speak that way about the wolf girl.
“Sabrina showed me everything, honey. I’m so ashamed for being stupid and blind to Leah.”
“Is what you saw so terrible?”
“I wish I could show it to you. You’d understand too,” Edward replied.
Bella frowned at her husband. She felt slightly insulted by his last statement.
