Hunching over a bucket in the privacy of his unlit room, Scara vomits by his bedside. He coughs up many wet petals and stems, and a quite few of them have spikes. Just exactly what he needs right now.
Hanahaki Disease, also known as literal lovesickness. If he were human, he would be dead by now. He’s kept this a secret for so long, but now, he’s simply tired of puking petals.
He’s accepted the realization that he needs to simply live with this, considering he’s tried everything. An attempt to fall in love with someone else was made, but that failed. Another try was him cutting his own lungs open, but Nahida greatly disapproved of any harm being inflicted on his person, and so she kept an eye on him.
Going back to his deadbeat mother so that she may turn him off seems like a very pleasant and peaceful afterlife for him. No more vomiting flowers, ever again.
After all, it’s unlikely that his crush even likes him in that way. An actor like Sethos, who spends most of his time filming or at rehearsal, would never have time for a college student. A puppet college student. Yeah, it’s very doubtful. And Sethos has many dating options, who’s more influential and famous and kind than Scara will ever be.
He’s not blind either, he knows how Sethos’ costar, the disgusting love interest, looks at him on screen. The thought of what they do behind the camera furthers his sickness.
Small knocks are heard at his door. He does not need any visitors right now.
“Your friend came to see you! Sethos says that you’re feeling quite ill.”
Sethos opts to poke his head out, into the darkness of the room and his bright green eyes shining through. It must reek of earth to them. “Hey, buddy! Whatchu got there?”
“A bucket,” he responds flatly, turning his head. “What else do you think?”
“I’ll leave you two be!” Nahida adds before exiting.
The same bright eyes look at him, haunting him. “Ah, it’s so dark in here! I’ll open the blinds.”
Since it’s pointless to fight against his crush, Scara lets him be. He also lets him clean up around the room, while Scara still sits beside his bucket. His friend doesn’t need to do this, yet that’s how Sethos is: kind-hearted, overtly confident and too sweet, like cloying candy.
The sunlight gleams in, slowly as his crush moves the curtains. It’s revolting, a reminder that Scara would never be granted any jovial emotion.
His chest aches.
“Um, I can help you, you know? Be your wingman, whatever.” Sethos gives a thoughtful look at him. Never one to beat around the chase, his friend. Neither does Scara. “You can get better very soon, once you’re united with whoever you like!”
“Ha, that’s funny. It’ll never happen.”
“Did you at least try? I know you pretty well, lotus. You don’t open up that often. If ever, that is.”
That nickname sends another throb. His throat feels stuffy, the flowers threatening to come up again. “I’ve told you not to call me that.”
“Sorry, sorry.” Sethos’ tone sounds smug. “But can you at least tell me the name of your heart’s most beloved? Pretty please? I’ll set up the dates and everything.”
Scara scowls. His heart? Ha! “Get out.”
