Before I could lose my nerve, I spun into the changing room and collided head first right into you.
‘Oh, gosh, I am so sorry.’ You said, holding your hands up to hide your face. ‘I’m right in your way.’
‘No, you’re not.’ I told you, trying to find your eyes. ‘I’m Rio.’
‘Rio…’ You mumbled to the floor, chewing on your index finger. I’d come to find you did that a lot.
‘And you’re Agatha, right?’
Your eyes shot up then, meeting mine so fearfully, I almost – almost – screamed.
‘You know who I am?’
And I realised you were terrified. I realised there was nothing worse for you right now than for me to know your name and who your mother was and whether you were able to live up to her name.
