“...And I grow the grainfruits here.” Kinich said as he gestured to a small area on the plot of land.
“They look so vibrant, this is impressive.” Ororon said as he looked at the fruits. “I grow grainfruits as well. Though I will say, they lack a little color… do you harvest them often?”
“I do, I had considered planting a few more, but I need to conserve some farmland for now.” Kinich said, “So I harvest them right when they become ripe. I know you should leave them to bloom a bit after ripening to get as much juice as possible, but they work well for what I need.”
“I see, I suppose. Perhaps I'll bring some of my grainfruits for you to try. Maybe the additional flavor might let you consider letting them ripen a bit more.” Ororon said.
“Hm, perhaps.” Kinich said, “Anyway, is there anything else?”
“Oh, I do have something.” Ororon said as he dug through his pockets. “Ifa asked me to give this to you since I was coming here.”
Ororon handed Kinich a small box, inside were a few vials of blue and red liquid, some with less or more phlogiston concentrations inside.
“Medicine. Thanks.” Kinich said simply, “I'll be sure to send my regards to Ifa later. Thank you for delivering these.”
“It's no trouble, really.” Ororon said.
It's been a bit since Kinich had recovered from his mild abyssal infection. Ororon wanted to take the opportunity to talk to him again, he had some questions, but they needed to wait until he believed he earned Kinich's trust somewhat. Only question that left was if they had something in common to talk about.
He remembered the farm, and remembered how he wanted to sample some nectar for his aphids. So, he decided that was something they could discuss. However… how to broach the subject now…
“The Master's of the Night-Wind is quite a distance from here. Are you sure you want to make the trip back?” Kinich asked.
“You don't need to worry, I can make it back safely.” Ororon said, “Though… may I ask about some of the things you grow?”
“Like what?”
“I see you managed to cultivate Embercore Flowers. How did you manage that?” Ororon asked, noticing the large red flower sitting in its own little corner of the plot.
“It wasn't easy, I can say that for certain.” Kinich said, “From what I managed to research, it's all about finding the right spot where there's a large enough stream of phlogiston in the ground for the flower to absorb it. That spot is the only one near my home that can support it.”
“Interesting… I should see if there are any phlogiston veins near my area then.” Ororon said, “Granny told me Embercore Flowers are wonderful medicinal ingredients due to their low but easily absorbable phlogiston reserves. They’re hard to find, but being able to grow one or a few to keep as backup would be useful.”
“Agreed, I used them for medicinal purposes myself.” Kinich said, “I actually create a lot of my own medicine up here. Do you grow Mullbore Berries? They are a very versatile plant. The nectar is a good antibacterial sap and the berries are known for having a lot of nutrients that are good for all kinds of ailments.”
“I actually do, the leaves themselves also have anti-inflammatory properties. So they’re good for clearing up rashes in an emergency.” Ororon said, “The nectar they produce is also really good for the aphids. Oh! Do you happen to grow any Mooncore Flowers? The sap they produce is very sweet and aids with sleeping.”
“I don’t actually have those. I haven’t made the time to cultivate plants that aren’t local to the mountains too much.” Kinich said.
“Then I’ll bring some seeds for you, I can show you how I grow them.” Ororon said.
“Then let me give you some of those Skydew seeds as well, in exchange.” Kinich said, “as I said, they’re good with dealing with symptoms involving nausea, headaches, and lightheadedness. They would be good to grow and have on hand as well.”
“But they won’t grow too well, would they? They grow better in higher elevations and my home isn’t exactly that high up.” Ororon said,
“Nor is mine likely that suitable for Mooncore Flowers, I heard they need low light and grow the best at nighttime in cooler temperatures. My home isn’t exactly the best due to the sun and heat up in the mountains, no matter how much the wind and air try to compensate.” Kinich said, “plus, I can teach you how to cultivate them as well. Sound like a fair deal?”
“It does, thank you.” Ororon said.
