Chapter 1: Prolouge

Chapter Text

In the middle of Pink’s room, a small, crying newborn sat, wrapped in silks by Blue Diamond’s pearl. Blue stared down at the baby with frustration in her eyes, how dare Pink play another game and so soon after she returned from that failure of a colony- Earth. Less than a full cycle ago, they had finally found Pink. Pink had confessed to her crimes, pleading that the diamonds will take care of her “child” and leave Earth alone. The red-eye had detected gems on the planet- when they sent gems on a mission to retrieve the strays they found Pink. Pink insisted she was the only gem left- the diamond’s blast corrupted the other gems left behind. Yellow has believed her- after all no gem but a diamond would’ve been great enough to survive the blast but another diamond. Neither Yellow nor Blue fully understood what she had meant when she talked about a child, and now the newborn was there- with Pink’s gem.

Yellow roughly reached down and grabbed the bundled child, only looking more annoyed as the cries grew louder, “Pink! Change your form this instant! You’re lucky you weren’t punished worse for your little stunt on Earth!” There was the briefest of pauses before the crying doubled in pitch. Yellow gritted her teeth in frustration, clenching and unclenching her fist as she fought with her temper. Blue placed a calming hand on Yellow’s shoulder.

Whispering, still in a loud enough tone that even the peaking pebbles could hear, Blue told Yellow, “Yellow? Why don’t we play into it for a bit, if we punish her more she’ll just act out worse for our attention. She’ll get bored of this quickly, she knows what a proper diamond is and she wouldn’t stray from being one for long.”

Yellow snorted, her suspicions written all over her face, “Really Blue? She’s a diamond! She already made us run around the galaxy and fight a war for thousands of years! We should lock her away for every year she acted like this!”

“But then we’d never see her! Isn’t that the same as her being shattered?!” Blue could think of a handful of punishments to give the smaller diamond that wasn’t locking her away. She just wanted to be able to see Pink, not get her out of trouble.

“We can have her transferred to the human zoo for a few cycles,” Blue suggested before gesturing towards the still crying baby, “till she stops doing this at least. She’ll be able to take on tasks at the zoo, no other diamond tasks- that will be her punishment.”

“It’s hardly a punishment- are you sure it’s not a reward for her?” Yellow glared at the squirming bundle that seemed to be trying to escape its silks, “She even made her new form resemble one of their earlier stages!” As Yellow spoke, small sparks of electricity sparked from her hand around where the child was, before any could hit it Blue quickly grabbed it.

“Careful Yellow!” Blue says, starting to walk but not being particularly careful with how she carried the wiggling child, “You mustn't use your powers on her till you need them. For now, we leave her in the tower until some quartz from the human zoo arrives to collect her.”
Yellow nodded in argument and set a brisk pace, “At least she’ll be in there some time for this nonsense. Really Blue, how many chances do we have to give her?”

Blue didn’t say anything as they approached the tower, placing the newborn inside. Wrapped in blankets she continued to cry into the darkness before stopping, realizing no one was coming. Rose’s child, a new beginning she had called it, was born into anger, cold, and darkness.
