Switched the Hell Up

Summary:

An AU version of 4x06 (Litt the Hell Up) and into 4x07. What if Rachel didn’t just kiss Logan? What if they slept together? How does this change the episode and the fall out with Mike?

Summary:

With things coming to a head with the Gillis industries deal both Harvey and Mike are under pressure to get the deal closed.

And when Mike finds out that the girl he loves cheated on him with Harvey’s client it gets a whole lot more complicated.

Notes:

This story focuses on Harvey and Mike and their relationship. Because that has always been the bit of Suits I have found most interesting.

The story assumes a general understanding of what has happened in the episode before and generally in the series. Not required, but it might be useful to read the notes at the end where I have included a summary of 'where we are' in the season so far.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Chapter Text

Rachel lifted her arm in the middle of the busy Manhattan street. The yellow cab pulled over straight away. Giving the driver the address that she once frequented more than her own apartment she sat back in the seat.

Butterflies fluttered in her stomach and her hands were shaking as she opened the card again.

‘Heard you had a little scare. Nice to have you back… Logan.’

Logan needed to stop. He couldn’t do this to her. They had had something years ago but they had both moved on. She had moved on. She was with Mike now and she loved him.

As the cab pulled up outside his apartment Rachel took the familiar steps up to the door.

It could have been years ago when Logan opened the door and his eyes lit up at seeing her and her stomach twisted in that way that told you you were in trouble.

“Hi,” she said, squaring her shoulders and entering the apartment.

“What are you doing here?”

“I am here because I wanted to talk to you before you came into see Harvey this morning.”

She turned in the hallway, staring the man she used to love down as he walked towards her. His face looked confused, but Rachel didn’t buy it for a moment.

“Do you want some coffee?” he asked.

“No. I won’t be here long enough for that.”

Logan cocked his head and took a step forward. “You sure?”

Rachel fought the urge to take a step back. “Look logan-”

“I know why you’re here.”

She almost laughed at that. “If you knew why I was here then I wouldn’t need to be here.”

“I think you are here to tell me what’s happening isn’t really happening but… it is.”

Rachel couldn’t help the laugh that time. Here was the cocky boy Rachel had known all those years ago. So sure of himself. So sure of the world. So sure of her.

“I have a boyfriend that I love,” she said, shaking her head. “So I need you to stop pursuing me. No more flowers. No more looks. No more attempted kisses. No more anything OK?”

“Look,” Logan said. “You said that if I knew why you were here then you wouldn’t need to be here? I think you do need to be here. And we both know why.”

He hadn’t taken a step closer to her, hadn’t moved since they started talking, yet Rachel felt his presence creep up on her. His eyes bore into her. He felt closer, he felt just one arms reach away. Her stomach started fluttering in anticipation like it had always done when he was close.

“You’re wrong,” she tried to say. But she could hear her conviction wavering.

“I don’t think I am,” Logan said quietly as he started walking forward, moving closer. “You once told me that we had chemistry,” Logan breathed against her neck, “the second that we met.”

Shivers went down her spine and she closed her eyes, desperately holding her resolve. He was so close. She could feel the warmth of his chest against hers and she remembered what it had felt like to be held by him; his arms around her, his breath on her neck… and then she felt his lips brush against that spot behind her ear. The one that he knew sent jolts down her spine.

“Logan please,” she whispered. But she wasn’t sure whether it was a plea to stop or continue.

“Tell me to stop, and I’ll stop.”

But her body was already submitting to the burning want in her veins but her mind… her mind was telling her to stop. To push away. To leave. But she couldn’t.

Logan pulled back and then his lips were on hers and his hands were on her waist, and it was just as amazing as it had been all those years ago and she gave in.

-

Donna was hovering by the elevators when Harvey arrived that morning.

And he was not in the mood for whatever the next drama was coming down the hill. He had screwed up with Mike and now the kid was pissed at him. And Harvey couldn’t even be righteously angry because he had betrayed Mike. The one thing that Harvey had berated Mike for time and again.

All the times that Harvey had told Mike to trust him, to believe in him, to trust that Harvey would fix whatever needed fixing… that Harvey would look out for him. And the one-time Mike does wholeheartedly without pause, Harvey had let him down.

And that didn’t feel like something they could come back from.

“Harvey,” Donna started before he had even stepped a foot onto the floor.

“Not now Donna,” he said, already stepping past his assistant and straight towards the relative sanctuary of his office.

“Harvey-” she started again.

“I said not now,” Harvey interrupted. “I have about thirty minutes before my meeting with Logan Sanders and I need to figure out how to make him and Mike settle this in the meantime so when I say ‘Not now Donna’ I mean-”

“Logan Sanders has been taken in by the SEC.”

Harvey’s strides stopped abruptly, and he turned to see Donna stood in the hallway.

“What?”

“I got the call five minutes ago and you were already on your way up.”

Harvey opened his mouth and paused.

Cahill.

Cahill and his bullshit vendetta.

Gritting his jaw Harvey walked back the way he came.

Cahill picked the wrong morning to mess with Harvey.

-

Storming through the doors of the SEC and scaring the receptionist would have been more satisfying if it weren’t for the swirling turmoil in Harvey’s gut. It slightly took the gleam off his appreciation.

He was directed down another boring grey corridor to another one and then there Sean Cahill was, leaning against the wall just next to another on descript door. A peek through the small window in the door showed Logan Sanders sat inside, his shirt-sans-tie and rumpled hair making it look like the SEC pulled him straight from bed.

“What the hell do you think you are doing, speaking to my client without me present?” Harvey asked, sending Cahill a look that made most opponents cower.

Cahill just smiled.

“Good morning to you too Harvey.”

“You’ve had him here for over an hour and you didn’t think to call me?”

“Your associate was already with him,” Cahill said, a strange glint in his eye. “I must say Harvey, I didn’t realise Pearson Specter provided such a… hands on service.”

As it always was when someone mentioned ‘his associate’ Harvey’s mind immediately went to  Mike and it took him a few seconds to realise what Cahill was implying.

“Excuse me-” he started but then Rachel walked round the corner, two cups of coffee in hand. And it suddenly all made terrible sense. Terrible, painful sense.

Even if he hadn’t noticed Rachel’s slightly creased suit jacket or hair, he would have noticed the guilt that shone from her eyes as she walked forward.

She had been in Logan’s house when the SEC knocked. She had been at Logan’s house early in the morning, before Harvey had even been at the office. Both her and Logan looked like they had re-dressed quickly, not caring for the finer details like ties or reapplying lipstick. And Rachel looked at Harvey with that pleading open expression that he hated.

“Ah, thank you Rachel,” Cahill said, reaching out a hand for one of the coffees. “The other one is for your client,” Cahill said directing his gaze back to Harvey. “It seems like he has had quite the busy morning.”

“I’ll just…” Rachel started, taking a step towards the door.

“No,” Harvey said, his voice quavering with his suppressed urge to scream. “You go back to the office. I think you’ve done enough here.”

Harvey felt a twinge of vindictive pleasure at the tears that formed in her eyes then. Good he thought viciously, I hope that hurt.
