Look To The Sky

Summary:

In which Galinda and Elphaba are so enamored by each other's beauty, the only fitting description of it lies in the sky

Notes:

I have been hyper fixated on Wicked, so why not write something about it. Yuri obsession has been too strong guys.

Chapter 1: No, The Moon

Chapter Text

No, The Moon

                                                                  ...

Galinda huffed softly as she shifted in her bed, unable to sleep. She had hoped she got Elphaba's attention with her noise, but that proved to not work. Maybe the girl was asleep.

It was most cnfusifying, why she couldn't sleep that is. Galinda always got her beauty sleep. She took it very seriously. There was absolutely no way, if she didn't get sleep, that she would be able to look the way she did I the morning.

But of course, as perfect as Galinda was, she was still human after all. She had her sleepless moments.

Admittedly, she had been having more of the moments lately. Coupled with her lack of sleep, she had also been getting distracted. Not that she didn't already, her a attention span for her classes was never known to be long. But little things such as her hair, or ShenShen and Pfenney, or Fieryo perhaps.

What she had come down with was nothing little. Not even close.

Lately, Galinda had been tormented, well, it wasn't exactly unwelcome, just confusifying. Galinda had not been able to stop herself from thinking about her roommate, now friend, best friend, Elphaba.

Elphaba

Perhaps thinking of her now would help her go to sleep, seeing as she couldn't bother her out of her sleep. She wasn't cruel.

To think she would've have loathed the idea of herself thinking of Elphaba a few months prior. Realistically, Galinda did loathe herself. She could not fathom how she could possibly dislike Elphaba now tha she knew her.

No, thinking of how she used to treat her would only make her mad at herself; she surely wouldn't be able to sleep then.

No, instead, Galinda decided to think of what she loved about Elphaba.

She hated to pick, because there were so many things to like when it came to Elphaba. Her smile, her passion about trying to better Oz, her passion for reading, how her eyebrows crunched up when she was focused. There were many things Galinda had taken notice too. But her favorite things was Elphaba's beauty. She was ashamed to have not recognized it sooner.

The light behind her eyes when she smiled, the way her hair flowed perfectly on her shoulders(she wished she would wear it down more so she could see it), her laugh, how happy she looked when she got a compliment. It had consumed much of Galinda's thoughts.

Elphaba was pretty all the time, there was no debate in it, well to her anyway. Galinda's heart ached when no one else recognized it. Could they not see? She tried to tell herself it didn't matter, because she saw it.

And yet, Galinda could get even more specific.

As she said, Elphaba was pretty all the time, really. But when Elphaba was under the moonlight, Galinda really felt her heart practically lift our of her chest, along with her eyes following Elphaba everywhere.

Galinda never really liked the moon as much as she did now. She always associated it with the dark and night time. The moon never reflected off her skin the right way, it made her less flattering really. But she didn't care much about that anymore, not if she got to see Elphaba.

Galinda noticed it after they fled the Ozdust.

                                              ...

After laughing like little girls in their beds, getting to know each other, they went on their shared balcony.

Galinda scooted as close as possible to Elphaba. She had the sudden need to be up close to the girl. Holding her hand wasn't enough.

It was a great opportunity to stare, notice things she hadn't before, or appreciate things she otherwise wouldn't have. Elphaba looked to busy staring out into space, contemplating; on what, Galinda had no idea.

She would've asked what was wrong really, because they were friends now, but she was too busy studying her.

Her emerald green skin under the moons glow, her emerald eyes shimmering, her deep green lips curling into a solemn smile.

She was beautiful.

It was a disgrace she had ever thought otherwise.

"Galinda?" Elphaba said, so lowly she wouldn't have been able to hear it if not for being so close to her

"Hmm? What is it?" Galinda said, feeling her ears perk up at the sound of her voice

"I-I don't want you to do this because you feel bad for me. I don't think I could bare anymore pity." Elphaba said, her voice sounding small, broken

"I admit I do feel horrible, what I did to you." Galinda said, feeling on the verge of tears before she continued

"But I danced with you because I want to start over. And I brought you here because I wanna learn you." Galinda said heartfeltly

Galinda wanted to hide away after revealing herself so. She had never been so vulnerable. Sure she had a lot of friends and was loved by everyone at Shiz, but she never felt so intrigued by anyone. To learn, to hold, to comfort, because she knows she needed it. When they danced, she could feel it. Elphaba was so hurt, and Galinda wanted to help her heal, even if she caused some of it.

"Is that ok?" Galinda said, trying not to get any closer to her without, making her moe uncomfortable, after a long moment of silence

"It is." Elphaba said, turning her head away from her

Galinda could only smile. Elphaba was accepting her. She didn't know why she had cared so much.

She wouldn't dwell on it now. She would just hold Elphaba's hand for now.

                                                 ...

Galinda let out a sigh as she laid to face Elphaba. Her face looked so pretty and soft while she sleep.

Uugh.

Thinking of her green-skinned friend only made her feel more awake.

Elphaba felt like the moon sometimes. Having influence on Galinda's feelings. Galinda could feel warmth and happiness rising when ever Elphaba was near her, waning a little when she had to be away from her.

Elphaba had craters like the moon too. Dents in her confidence with the years of bullying, degradation, and disregard. Galinda wanted to fill them, she just didn't know how. So she held Elphaba anytime she could. Her hand, cradled her faces, hugged her, so Elphaba had pieces of her to fill her craters, because it pained Galinda to see Elphaba's insecurities shine through sometimes.

"Galinda, Galinda!" Elphaba said, startling her a little

"Oh Elphie, you startled me. I thought you were asleep." Galinda said as she sighed dramatically and placed a hand on her chest

"Well I almost was. Until I heard you shuffling, a loti might add. And you were staring." Elphaba said as she sat up

"Im sorry. I was just thinking." Galinda said softly

"Are you alright? You usually are asleep by now." Elphaba questioned

"I'm amazing really. Extra energy it seems." Galinda said

"Not usual." Elphaba said as she shrugged and rolled back over

"Elphie?" Galinda said

"Yes?" Elphaba asked with a sigh

Galinda smiled before she proceeded. Elphaba rarely said no to her.

"Can you stay up with me until I fall asleep?" Galinda asked softly

Galinda sat up, waiting for a response. She would say yes, she knew it. Elphaba seemed to have a soft spot for her, one that she liked the fact that it was there.

"Alright." Elphaba said as she sat up

"Come, come let's go outside." Galinda said as she got out of her bed and cheerfully grabbed Elphaba from her bed

"Alright, alright." Elphaba said, trying to wipe the sleep from her eyes

Normally Galinda would talk Elphaba's ear off whenever they would have free time to just talk. She was a good listener really. Taking in every word Galinda said, even offering her opinion on things she otherwise would've thought minuscule. It made Galinda feel special. Sure, everyone in Shiz usually paid attention when she talked. But they only heard her, they weren't really listening, taking in on what she cared about or how she reacted. Elphaba did. Of course she. Galinda was starting to think she was perfect.

As good as a listener Elphaba was, Galinda loved hearing her talking. Her voice was soothing. She could listen to her for hours, in fact she did. Galinda tried to be as good a listener as Elphaba, really. But Elphaba was just so pretty under the moon right now. Galinda insisted on Elphaba talking about anything, maybe sh would get sleepy. Elphaba looked so pretty talking about things that she cared about. Dr. Dillamomd's class, lessons with Madame Morrible, books (something Galinda didn't understand). She really tried to focus, she caught most of what Elphaba said, it had to be important after all.

Galinda wondered if Elphaba knew her beauty was enhanced times ten, which Galinda hadn't thought possible. She had to tell her. It was her duty as a best friend after all. Maybe when Elphaba stopped talking she'd tell her.

"Galinda?" Elphaba said as she tilted her head to looked down at Galinda

"Hmm?" Galinda said as she fluttered eyes at Elphaba from the seat she moved impossibly closer to Elphaba to hold her hand

"Are you sure you're alright? You haven't tossed your hair and it's nicely breezy out tonight." Elphaba said as she noticed her our of character behavior

Galinda smiled at her softly. Of course Elphaba knew when something was wrong. Well not wrong, persay, just out of the ordinary. She would've told her. But she couldn't. Galinda wasn't uncomfortable about telling Elphaba about her beauty, she just couldn't bare the silence that indicated that Elphaba didn't believe her. So she wouldn't tell her. At least not right now. She couldn't hold it in forever though.

"I'm alright." Galinda said as she yawned and blinked her eyes slowly, laying her head on Elphaba shoulder

"I'm glad I could aid in helping you getting sleepy. It was odd seeing you restless." Elphaba said

"You always do." Galinda said softly

"Let's get you to bed." Elphaba said

"Stay out here a little longer." Galinda said as she gripped Elphaba's hand

The two sat in silence, Galinda softly staring in admiration as Elphaba looked at the night sky.

"You're so pretty Elphie." Galinda said with the upmost sincerity

"Do you believe me?" Galinda said after the silence

"I do." Elphaba said softly

"Pretty. Pretty like the moon." Galinda mumbled before sleep took over her

                                                                  ...
