Chapter 1: The New Kid.

Chapter Text

SOUTH PARK is my new destination. I’d be pretty happy if it were just another normal town, but apparently, it’s one of the smallest places in the state of Colorado. From what I’ve been told, it’s a town with just one school, a community center, a grocery store, a church, and a park. That means no malls, no nationwide franchises, none of that… Oh, and the town hall is right in the middle of it all. Could it get any more small-town than this?

Most of the businesses are local, and for God’s sake, it snows so much here. The mountain roads are covered in a thin, constant layer of snow. I can’t wait to step into this place and leave as fast as possible. Tiny towns are peaceful, which means they’re less likely to have high crime rates and all that.

I’ve been transferred to South Park High School halfway through the semester, something that happens often enough in normal families.

"I feel like I’m gonna die of boredom here," I grumble from the back seat of the car, turning my attention entirely to the window on my right. Everything seemed more interesting outside, even though there was absolutely nothing worth admiring on the road except snow, snow, and more snow. "What is there to do in South Park? I mean, moving here in the middle of the year? That’s just dumb."

"You’re already getting into character," my 'mom' comments subtly, glancing at me through the rearview mirror. "But try not to get too carried away, okay? The last thing we need is to deal with a teenager."

"I’m still technically one…" I roll my eyes.

"Yeah, but you don’t have to act like one right now. Why not wait until school starts? Then you’re free to spill all the crap you want to your classmates and teachers."

"The people here are total hicks. Do you really think anything serious ever happens here? Impossible." I keep arguing with the woman, who was already showing the first signs of impatience as she took her eyes off the road.

"Listen: We’re gonna get to the house, you’re going to greet your new neighbors, go to school, and act normal. Otherwise, you’re grounded!" She turned her head toward me, glaring over the driver’s seat with a serious expression. I just shrink back, intimidated enough not to want to keep arguing. "Am I clear?"

"…Yes," I mumble.

Mom focuses back on the road. I can tell we’re getting close because of the small wooden sign ahead reading: South Park, just a few miles away.

The rest of the year from here on out is going to suck.
