Work Text:
Pairing: Lucius Malfoy/James Potter
Prompt: (Spell) Patronus
James Potter smiled as he watched his best friends after they were pronounced as a bonded pair and presented as Remus and Sirius Black. They shared a hug before pulling back. Sirius was grinning and Remus was smiling.
They shared a look – full of love and an unspoken connection.
Envy filled James. He wanted that! He wanted what they had.
Sirius and Remus raised their wands, each casting a nonverbal Patronus Charm. Padfoot ran around the couple before tackling Moony. The wolf leaned into the dog.
Sirius and Remus laced their fingers together as they watched their Patronuses. The pair found they were soulmates at the beginning of their seventh year when they learned the Patronus Charm. They were the first couple to form in their year.
At the end beginning of their seventh year, each student learned the Patronus Charm. With time, the compelled Patronus could lead someone to their soulmate.
“Please join,” Lord Arcturus Black III stated. He waved his own wand, casting his own Patronus Charm.
James watched as others casted the Patronus Charms. He pulled out his wand, silently casting his own Patronus Charm.
A few seconds later, a peacock was circling around him. James frowned, tracking its movements.
His heart leapt as he started looking around for his own Patronus. Prongs was nowhere to be seen. Surely a large stag would be easy to find.
After a few minutes of searching, James spotted his Patronus. Prongs was using his antlers to herd Lucius Malfoy forwarded. The blonde wizard looked amused as he walked forward and he glanced around – probably looking for his own Patronus.
A smile slowly formed as James watched Lucius and Prongs.
It took a few minutes for Lucius a minute to spot James and the peacock.
The blonde’s expression didn’t change. His silver eyes lingered on the peacock before meeting James’ hazel eyes.
Something passed between the pair.
James’ gaze dropped to the peacock as he noticed the bird’s tailfeathers fan out.
“Show off,” Lucius muttered, fondness in his tone, as he stopped next to James.
James smiled, turning to look at the older wizard.
