Work Header

death is in my blood

Summary:

What do you do when you find yourself without your siblings, in another fucking timeline, with nowhere to guide you?

You stumble onto a road and get yourself hit by a car, that's what.

That's fine, of course. Really, really fine.

~~

Klaus' Adventure! Where Klaus finds death, and the Underworld after being hit by a car. Just a regular day.

(Can be read as a standalone)

Notes:

This is gonna be similar to 'i'll meet you at the end'. You're welcome to read that one too- it's about Diego.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

Nope. Nope. Nope. Nope. They were fucking doomed.

Klaus groaned. He tried to push himself up, but Reginald's damn machine had made him so weak. The worst part is that he still felt the sting of betrayal. Reginald had helped him upgrade his powers and made him feel almost confident. But then, he was literally stabbed. Betrayal sucked. Now, the machine felt like it was still killing him. Klaus had collapsed onto the floor. He struggled to push himself back up, but his arms shook.

"Wait!" Klaus shouted.

His ears were ringing. Klaus thought he could hear Five shout something, but it was indecipherable. Klaus felt bad for Five. He had been through so much. Klaus' ears kept on ringing. He could hear more shouting- everyone was protesting, he assumed. He opened his mouth to shout his own protests.

That's when Allison pushed the button. The world glitched into s̶̖͊͂t̸̤̋̓A̷͚͂T̴̫̈I̸̡͆̚Ć̶̻͈͝-

Klaus crashed body first into the road. His ears had stopped ringing. He looked up...and his eyes met the glare of the sun.

"Ugh," he hissed and covered his eyes.

He turned towards the street. It looked...relatively modern. He didn't exactly want a Dallas situation again. There wasn't anything in sight to tell him what the date was, and there was no way in hell that Klaus was going to ask someone else. Not when he was so disoriented. He grabbed a lamp post and used it to get to his feet. Unfortunately, in the process, he stumbled forward up onto the road.

Klaus quickly went to move off the road. He turned to look straight into the eyes of a panicked driver.

Smash.

When Klaus opened his eyes, he knew exactly what happened. He groaned and flopped straight back onto the ground.

"That should be a record," Klaus sighed.

"For what?"

Klaus shot up. He met the eyes of...a very, very beautiful man. Klaus found himself observing his lean and muscular body, his regal face, long, black hair flowing down his shoulders, and those honey-gold eyes. Klaus found his gaze creeping on the man's teakwood skin. The craziest part was the man had wings. Dark things, glimmering in shades of black, blue and purple.

"Are you an angel?" shot out of Klaus' mouth.

The man leaned down and offered Klaus a hand. Klaus took it.

"I'm Lord Thanatos," the man introduced, "God of Death. And you are the son of Hades."

Klaus paused for a second. This man must be mistaken. First off, this was not the regular afterlife. Klaus could not see God, or the regular gardens that inhabited the afterlife. Instead, he was in a strange garden of jewels and pomegranates. And who the hell was Thanatos? He knew who Hades was, certainly, but he was definitely not his son.

"Uh..." Klaus managed to get out, "What?"

Thanatos stared at Klaus. He was probably observing how blankly confused Klaus's face was. Thanatos eventually sighed and pinched his nose.

"Have you gone your whole life without knowing your parent?" Thanatos asked.

Blank face.

"Seen any monsters?"

Blank face. "Do humans count?"

A deep, suffering sigh. "Let me take you to your father."

Klaus was totally willing to accept being the son of Hades.

Hades himself was very imposing. Hades fixed his intense, black eyes upon Klaus, which for once, made Klaus feel a stab of fear, like he was in the wrong. Klaus managed to meet Hades' eyes.

"Son," Hades said.

"Uh...yes, son, that's me," Klaus managed to respond.

Hades glared at Klaus for a moment. There was another moment of tensed silence. Then, the fire faded from Hades' eyes.

"You truly do not know a thing?" Hades spoke.

Thanatos had long gone. Klaus looked into Hades' eyes. He knew that if he lied, he would be...crushed, or something. Yet-

"Y...es?" Klaus tried.

Hades grumbled something under his breath that Klaus could not catch. He then spoke.

"Fine. Then I shall explain our world." Hades said.

Hades clicked his fingers. A couch appeared. Klaus immediately jumped into it.

"Our world huh? Very inclusive," Klaus commented.

Hades slid a hand over his face and sighed heavily. "Just listen."

A couple of explanations later, Klaus pretty much understood.

"So," Klaus said, "What you're really saying is that I have death powers."

"Yes," Hades said, "But the more important part is-"

"That I have death powers," Klaus repeated.

Hades threw hands. It looked funny on a god.

The best part of this revelation is that it was the perfect cover. Klaus could use his powers freely and Hades wouldn't tell the difference. Well, except for one thing.

"Wait." Klaus said, "So I'm dead?"

Hades stared at him for a moment. "No. You can, if you want."

"What?"

"You can return to the world of the living," Hades said, "You seem to inherit the ability to heal incredibly quickly."

Right. So Klaus could technically still have the whole immortal thing. Wow, things were really working out for him, huh?

"And if I stay?" Klaus asked.

"Well," Hades said, "I suppose I could teach you."

"Teach me what?" Klaus probed.

"How to use your powers," Hades said, "Since you obviously don't know,"

Klaus grinned, "Alright."

It was time to see how well his powers merged with the new timeline. He could meet up with his siblings later.

Luckily, Hades began with the stuff that Klaus didn't know. The craziest part was that it was working. It made Klaus actually believe he was this guy's son in this timeline, with the stuff he was doing. The first thing was shadow travel, something that reminded Klaus of Five, except Five's was probably easier. Or maybe Five was more used to it, because Klaus felt sick every time he shadow travelled. But he managed it, and that's what mattered to Hades.

After a couple of days, Hades began to teach him about skeleton control. This was the most funny one. Klaus actually struggled with this one- most of the time, Klaus was summoning ghosts and spirits. Hades was impressed by this initially, as he explained to Klaus that ghosts and spirits were meant to be much harder to summon. However, he then doubled down on teaching Klaus about skeletons, as he was insistent that Klaus would easily be able to manage them.

Klaus was getting the hang of it, sure, but then he took a couple days break to explore the Underworld. He tried to find Thanatos, but the guy kept on running from him. Klaus found his way around the Underworld. He met the Furies, who weren't crazy about him at all. In fact, after three minutes of interacting with him, they all flew off. Together. Klaus never felt so rejected.

After a couple of weeks, Klaus returned to the world of the living. At first, he tried to find the helm- Hades' helm, which Klaus had heard him complain about too many times to count. Then, he tried to find his siblings, but he couldn't find anything. He even checked the news, but everything was off this asshole kid named 'Percy Jackson'. That wasn't helpful, at all. He went back down one day to complain to Hades, but then he heard the sirens. They were coming from Hades' palace.

Look, Klaus wasn't exactly the most loyal guy when it came to Hades. He may have started to believe in the Greek mythology thing, and being Hades' son, but he was curious today. Klaus took a deep breath and tried to shadow travel. He found himself in the staircase facing Hades' palace.

(He was getting there.)

Klaus sat there for a moment, trying to calm his nausea. It wasn't too bad, considering it was only one jump, but still, it was enough to be annoying. Klaus eventually felt better and walked inside. That's when he saw two faces that made him sigh with relief. It was Five and Diego. There were many skeletons, but they were overpowering them easily. To Klaus' minor shock, Diego was using wind, and tornadoes, or something.

Hah, it looks like he wasn't the only one with a power upgrade.

Suddenly, Five did something that Klaus' couldn't see. It was like a horror movie- there were screams of skeletons growing their skin back, like time was reversing.

"WHAT THE F-" Diego shouted.

"Send them up!" Five cut him off.

Diego swept his hand and sent up every single skeleton into the cavern ceiling. They all crumbled. Klaus raised an eyebrow.

"That was...I don't know whether I should be proud or what," Diego gaped, holding out a high five to Five.

Klaus smirked and used shadow travel to appear right in front of Diego. He high fived him. Diego and Five turned to stare at Klaus.

"Aren't you going to greet me?" Klaus looked at them. He put a hand on his chest, feigning hurt, "I can't believe it. My own siblings."

Diego grinned and clapped him on the back. "Good to see you, buddy. Have you been hanging down here the whole time?"

Five gave him a nod. "Yeah. It's good to see you, Klaus,"

Klaus threw open his arms, "Yes, I have! Seems like you guys found your way in here after all. Saw that whole fight by the way, very impressive."

"Son. Are these the siblings you mentioned?" Hades finally spoke, his voice a grumble.

"What." Diego spoke, "Klaus, are you the fucking son of Lord Hades?"

Klaus gave him an innocent look, "Why, of course. Who isn't?"

Oh, he loved having some of his brothers again.
