Louis swallows. “I shoulda left you decades ago.”

Summary
In another life — or maybe the next one, or maybe the one before — Ilya Rozanov learns that some roads only lead to one place. No matter how you take them, the wolves are always waiting at the end.
Maybe that's why, in December 2008, Ilya wakes up with the distinct, inexplicable sense, that he has already lived this life before.
Some things, it turns out, are inevitable. The question is whether he is.

Bookmarker's Notes
“Would you choose me?” Shane demands on Boxing Day, and Ilya thinks about dying four times over, choosing Shane each and every time, because loving him was the easiest thing Ilya had ever done, except when it was the hardest.
“I already chose you, Hollander,” he says. Again, and again, and again, and again.

Summary
Shane Hollander has always believed that if he worked hard enough, stayed quiet enough, wanted little enough, he could build a life untouched by the past. Studying medicine to become a surgeon, with a bright future ahead, he is just trying to live his life in spite of the hand that he had been dealt by destiny.
Ilya Grigoryevich Rozanov knows better.
There is no such thing as destiny. Only power. And Power doesn't ask. It takes. It reshapes. It finds the cracks in people and widens them until there's nothing left but truth.
And the past never stays gone for too long. What starts as a simple conversation in a dimly lit bar turns into something far more dangerous.
Because Shane isn't built for Ilya's world of power, violence, and control.
And Ilya has no intention of letting him go.

Summary
“Am I a bad friend?”
Hayden has always been the guy Shane joked with, the guy he trusted to feed him without mocking him, the guy he roomed with on the road, and Shane is the only man who has ever seen Hayden cry, and Hayden loves Shane. He fucking loves him. They are like brothers, and they have been for almost ten fucking years. He’s always been Shane’s guy, Shane’s best friend.
Except all along, maybe that wasn’t true. Ilya Rozanov, apparently, had been the guy. Before Hayden had ever met Shane, Ilya Rozanov had been there. And Hayden had never even noticed.
Shane is all over every inch of Hayden’s life. Hayden thought that was reciprocal.

“Does he deserve you?” Hayden asks, because he knows that he doesn’t deserve Shane Hollander and has never deserved Shane Hollander, but goddamn it, he’s trying, okay? And if he’s trying, then he’s willing to give Ilya the same chance. “I mean.” He falters. He tries again. “He makes you happy. I know he makes you happy.” He grabs Shane’s hand impulsively. “I’m glad he makes you happy.”
Shane smiles like he knows what Hayden means. Of course he knows. He’s Hayden’s best friend; he knows everything about him.

Summary
The trade was filed while Ilya Rozanov was sedated. The visa paperwork was signed before he regained consciousness. His agent was gone by morning, his representation replaced, his entire professional existence quietly transferred into Scott Hunter’s hands overnight — and every single thing Scott did was legal, documented, and defensible.
Ilya knows what this is. He can name every move, trace every wire. He just can’t prove any of it to anyone who would believe him over Scott Hunter — beloved captain, model professional, the man the whole league trusts. Does he even want to?
In Montreal, Shane Hollander is the only person who knows the truth. He’s sworn to secrecy. He’s keeping notes. He is not leaving.

Bookmarker's Notes
"Why," Ilya said.
Scott was quiet. Not the quiet of someone who didn't hear — the quiet of someone taking the question seriously.
"Why what specifically," he said.
"All of it," Ilya said. "The trade. The visa. The apartment. The PT. Tonight — the food, the blanket, the—" He stopped. Started differently. "You don't know me. We have chirped each other for four years across the ice and you have given me maybe forty words and now you have moved my entire life into your apartment and you are arranging everything." He paused. "Why."
Scott was quiet for long enough that Ilya thought he might not answer. The city moved across the ceiling. The hip ached distantly.
"Because I've been watching you for four years," Scott said. "And I know exactly who you are." A pause. "And because you were going to be lost — the visa, the contract, Boston cutting you loose — and I wasn't going to let that happen."
"Why," Ilya said again. "Why not let it happen. I'm not your — I was a rival. I chirped you every time I had the chance. Why would you—"
"Because," Scott said, with the specific patience of a man who has the answer and is choosing how much of it to give, "what's mine doesn't get lost."

Summary
“Look it’s not that hard, just go be cool for a few hours and if you get stuck just ask yourself: WWHD–-what would Henry do?”
They used to swap places all the time as kids. At school, at the playground, at practice. For fun. It had been easy then—like a quick changing of jerseys between periods. That was before the invisible fork in the road that had inexplicably parted them in their teens. It's been over a decade since they’ve done this bit. And Shane doesn’t want to do it. Not because he can’t do it but because he is so, so tired of playing clean-up crew for Henry’s fuckups.
Shane hesitates, jaw tightening. Then he slowly exhales through his nose.
“Do you. Still have. The clip-ons.” Shane grits out.---
Or: Shane is a good brother and fills in for his identical twin, Henry, during a photoshoot. Enter: Ilya Rozanov. One case of mistaken identity leads to disastrous outcomes.Bookmarked by mayfriend

Bookmarker's Notes
“Hollander.”
“Mm?”
“I like you,” Ilya says. It sounds like an offering.
Shane swallows hard. “No, you don’t.”
“Hollander—“
“Don’t.” Shane swallows, voice pleading. “Please, don’t.”
If Shane weren’t a coward, he would confess this second. He would explain to Ilya that the person he thinks he likes is actually just a reflection in a mirror: an image in the shape of a person, but utterly insubstantial.
