Alastor’s head had never felt so crammed full of new ideas.
That book the library had presented him with – because he was certain that the library had presented him with the book, it hadn’t been a coincidence – it had been fascinating. It had touched on ancient Egyptian theories of life after death, and gone all the way through to magical rituals to remove the brain completely intact, rather than drawing it out through the nose in pieces.
It wasn’t his brain he was concerned with, however. He had been far more interested in the mention of something called a ‘heart-box’ – and the associated methods of removing said organ without the patient in question immediately expiring.
