E : Hey Buck
B : Are you okay?
E : Yeah. Really didn’t want to do this over the phone
B : I’m dressed if you want to switch over to Facetime?
E : Uh, yeah. Hold on
[Eddie Diaz switched the voice call to FaceTime]
Buck removed the phone from his ear to see Eddie rustling around, gliding his hand through his hair repeatedly.
“You really don’t look okay,” He blurted out.
Eddie snorted. “Way to kick a man when he’s down, Buck.” He dropped his hands down to his sides, clenching and unclenching them.
“I’m dead serious, Eds. Do I need to come down there?”
“No!” He yelped, before recomposing himself. “No. I’m fine. I need to get this out. For Chris.”
Buck cocked an eyebrow. “And what is so important that Chris is making you tell me?”
“It’s about those videos he keeps sending.”
“That’s it?” Buck asked. “Eddie, you know those things aren’t worth anything.”
“But they are, and my son clocked it before I did.”
Buck choked on his own tongue. “Eddie, are you saying…”
Eddie nodded. “Yeah. I’m, uh. I guess I’m gay? Not like GAY-gay but, like-”
“Not straight,” Buck clarified for him. “I getcha. I’m so proud of you, Eddie. How are you feeling?”
”Honestly? Like as soon as a weight was lifted off my back, a bus ran me over.”
Buck chuckled self-deprecatingly. “I know the feeling. Like you did something big, but you don’t know what to do after.
“Yeah. Exactly.”
They talked like this for a little while longer before Buck checked his time and groaned.
“I’m really proud of you, Eddie, and as much as I would love to keep looking at your pretty face, I need to get some stuff done, so I’m switching the call back to a normal one, and grabbing my headphones. Good?”
Even in the awkward midday light, Buck noticed a faint blush on Eddie’s cheeks. ”Works for me.”
[Buck Buckley switched the Facetime call to a voice call]
[Call ended 1:24 pm]
