Work Text:
In the darkness of his dorm room late at night, Bakugou was trying to go to sleep. He had been restless for the past week or so. Bakugou would never admit it but he couldn’t stop having conflicting emotions in his mind. Then his phone lit up. Hoping it was Kirishima or even anyone else from his group, he picked it up.
brokenarmszuku: Hey, Kacchan, I have a question
Bakugou wanted to throw his phone after seeing Midoriya’s text.
explosionmurder1: no it’s like 2am, fuck off
brokenarmszuku: Fine, but if you want to talk to someone about a ~certain redhead~, I am here
As Bakugou read this message, his face lit up with shock and rage. How did this idiot know? Did he even actually know anything? Was the fucker just teasing him? No, he probably knew. That damn nerd probably figured it out somehow.
explosionmurder1: the hell do you mean
brokenarmszuku: Oh come on, I’ve known you my whole life, it’s not hard to tell your emotions. Just spit it out already
explosionmurder1: I'm not telling you shit, go to sleep
brokenarmszuku: Fine, but you can’t hide from me!
explosionmurder1: I very much can
Bakugou threw his phone back onto his nightstand and tried to fall asleep. It took him about half an hour of constantly thinking about what had just happened for him to realize that he was not falling asleep any time soon. He picked up his phone and pulled up messages again.
explosionmurder1: how did you find out
Unfortunately for Bakugou, Midoriya had fallen asleep within the last thirty minutes and didn’t see the text until the next morning, leaving Bakugou restless with thoughts. Was it that fucking obvious? I thought I wasn’t showing it at all. If damn Deku has picked up on it, does that mean someone else might know too?
Finally, at about 3:30 am, Bakugou fell asleep.
-
In the morning, at 6 am, Bakugou’s alarm went off. He reluctantly got up and started getting ready for the day. Most of the other students did not get up until 7 am, but Bakugou was used to getting up early to make breakfast.
After he was ready, Bakugou headed down to the kitchen, as he did every morning, to start making breakfast for his class. This had never been his intention from the start, but one day, Kaminari woke himself up early on accident and caught Bakugou making breakfast for himself. Kaminari had asked if Bakugou did this every morning and Bakugou confirmed his assumption. Then Kaminari asked if he could have some and Bakugou handed him a strip of bacon. Saying it was the best he’d ever had, Kaminari just had to go and tell the rest of their group. After that, word spread around the class that Bakugou made a great breakfast, and ever since, Bakugou has been making a little something for each student in 1-A every morning, which most eat on their way across campus to class.
While Bakugou was cooking, he heard someone coming down the stairs.
“Kacchan, are you down here?” Midoriya said as he turned the corner.
“No,” Bakugou responded, not wanting to talk to Midoriya.
“Knew it. So,” Midoriya started as he sat on a stool at the bar of the kitchen, “you want to know how I figured it out?”
Bakugou ignored him.
“Well, it was pretty obvious. To me, at least. I mean I’m not sure if anyone else thinks so but I’ve known how you handle emotions for years now, so I could tell.”
Bakugou just grunted as he continued cooking.
After a minute of silence, Midoriya piped up again, “I think you two would be good for each other.”
Bakugou stopped moving for just a second after hearing that, but he immediately got back to work.
Midoriya started muttering about how he viewed Kirishima and Bakugou’s relationship, but, for the most part, Bakugou wasn’t listening. That is until Midoriya mentioned something he’d sworn to never mention out loud at UA.
“-and if you think he won’t like you because you’re trans, I’m pretty sure he would. I mean, if you were to tell him he would just respond with something like ‘well you’re still the manliest man I know.’”
“Shut the fuck up. I thought I told you to never mention that,” Bakugou finally responded.
“I know, but if that’s what you were thinking, I wanted you to hear an outside opinion so you stop conflicting yourself in your own head.”
Bakugou was silent for a minute.
“Stop trying to figure my life out for me, you damn nerd, I don’t need an outside opinion.”
“Alright, alright, fine. I just wanted to let you know,” Midoriya said as he headed for the front door to do some warmup exercises outside before breakfast was ready.
Bakugou grunted as he continued cooking, trying not to think about anything besides the food.

“You go on ahead, Kats, I’ll meet you at the table!”
It was lunchtime and Bakugou, Kirishima, and Mina were still in their homeroom, chatting after the lunch bell rang.
“Yeah, alright, Shitty Hair,” Bakugou said as he left the room.
“Kats?” Mina asked with a smirk on her face.
“Shut up,” Kirishima said, playing embarrassed.
“I can’t wait til y’all get together, it’s going to be all nicknames all the time, huh?”
Kirishima was still laughing a bit, letting Mina poke fun at him for having a crush.
“You should tell him, man,” Mina said, seriously.
“You know I can’t,” Kirishima responded.
“I know what you’re thinking, but he wouldn’t care. I’m telling you he likes you back.”
Kirishima rolled his eyes, “Okay, maybe, but I’m not telling him any time soon. I’m thinking maybe at graduation.”
“Graduation?” Mina asked, shocked, “But that’s so long away, man, ask him today.”
“Right, I’d just walk up to him and come out and then confess? Like that would end well for me.”
“Fine, but if it’s just because of coming out, then you’re insane. He’d still be your friend at the least.”
“Yeah maybe,” Kirishima responded.
There were footsteps outside of the classroom, but the two did not notice. However, the footsteps stopped after Kirishima’s next sentence.
“Oh, that reminds me, do you have a tampon? I ran out last time and forgot to get more.”
“Oh yeah, here you go, Kiri!” Mina said as she dug around in her school bag and pulled out a pink-wrapped cylinder item.
Then someone walked into the room.
Kirishima looked back at the short boy with a fearful look.
“Look, I- I can’t lie, I overheard you guys,” Midoriya started before bowing down, “and I’m sorry I did but I just wanted to say that I support you, Kirishima, and I will not tell anyone.”
Kirishima was speechless. He was not mad, he just couldn’t find words to reply.
So Mina replied for him, “Thank you for being honest, Midoriya, and thanks for not telling anyone.” Mina smiled as she said this to make the tension die down.
Midoriya nodded and walked out of the room.
Once Midoriya was gone, Kirishima sank into the nearest desk chair and put his face in his hands.
“Hey,” Mina put a hand on Kirishima’s back to comfort him, “don’t worry. Midoriya seems good at keeping secrets. I trust him. At least it wasn’t Mineta or something.”
“Yeah, I guess you’re right. It’s not that I doubt him, I just- I just wasn’t ready.”
“I know.”
It took Kirishima a minute to stand up, but once he did, Mina asked, “Do you need any ibuprofen or anything? I’ve got some right here.”
“No, I’ve got some still, thanks though.”
They headed out of the classroom together and Mina went to the cafeteria while Kirishima went to the bathroom.

Bakugou saw his phone light up and glanced at the notification.
brokenarmszuku: u up?
Not wanting to talk to anyone at the moment, let alone ‘stupid Deku,’ Bakugou turned his phone over and continued pulling out ingredients.
Yes, it was 1:00 in the morning, and, yes, Bakugou was stress-baking over his emotions.
Unfortunately for Bakugou, Midoriya hadn’t even been in the dorms and was just now getting back from his extra training.
Midoriya opened the front door and saw Bakugou in the kitchen and made his way over.
“Thanks for responding to my text,” Midoriya said, sarcastically.
Bakugou just grunted.
“What are you baking?” Midoriya asked after a minute.
“Nothing for you,” Bakugou responded, knowing full well that anyone in the class, including Midoriya, would be allowed to eat his cupcakes the next day.
“Sounds delightful,” Midoriya responded while rolling his eyes.
Midoriya sat in silence while Bakugou poured the wet ingredients into a bowl.
“The hell do you want anyway?” Bakugou asked as he started to measure some flour.
“Oh,” Midoriya started, “I was just thinking about something.”
In truth, Midoriya was thinking about what he had found out about Kirishima earlier. He was thinking about how, if Bakugou really was scared of Kirishima finding out about himself, there was no need for him to worry anymore.
But he swore to Kirishima that he wouldn’t tell anyone. That included Bakugou.
“If it’s not concerning me then you can leave,” Bakugou said, cutting off Midoriya’s train of thought.
“Oh, right, sorry to bother you.”
“Yeah, whatever.”
Midoriya hesitated before he started to leave, however, which made Bakugou look up at him.
“Either spit it out or go.”
“Right, well,” Midoriya started while he tried to figure out what he should say.
He took a breath in as he landed on a vague enough phrase to leave with.
“I don’t think he will mind.”
Midoriya left to head to his room after saying this, ignoring Bakugou’s questions about what he’d meant.
—
rockhard: hey, midoriya?
brokenarmszuku: Yeah, Kirishima?
rockhard: you haven’t told anyone, right?
brokenarmszuku: Right.
rockhard: good. I mean, I trust that you won’t but, I just wanted to make sure
brokenarmszuku: I’ve got you! And actually, you aren’t even the first person in our class that I am keeping this kind of secret for.
rockhard: really?
brokenarmszuku: Yeah, but he’d kill me if I told you who. Anyway, I gtg!
“Holy shit,” Kirishima mumbled under his breath.
Then, he opened messages again to talk to someone he could trust with this info.
rockhard: Mina! I’m gonna tell you something but you have to swear you won’t share with anyone else.
alienqueen: omg spill!! I won’t tell anyone!
rockhard: ok ok so, I was talking to Midoriya, making sure he hadn’t told anyone about me (which he hadn’t) right?
alienqueen: yeah?
rockhard: well after a bit he said “you aren’t even the first person in our class that I am keeping this kind of secret for”
alienqueen: WOAH seriously??
rockhard: YEAH. and then said “he’d kill me if I told you who”
alienqueen: oh. my. god. you know what this means right?
rockhard: …
alienqueen: bro, he’s probably talking about Bakugou
rockhard: but he can’t be right? like that’d be too lucky
alienqueen: I mean who else here would kill Midoriya over that
rockhard: I would if he let *that* out
alienqueen: ok fair but I mean…
Kirishima put down his phone and smiled. He tried not to get his hopes up, but his imagination was already running wild.
If he’s trans too, then me being trans wouldn’t get in the way of us being together. He wouldn’t think I’m weird. I mean, he might still not have feelings for me but at least I can tell him. Unless I’m just jumping to conclusions. What if Midoriya wasn’t even talking about him? What if he’d hate me if I came out? What if-
That’s when Kirishima turned on his music and walked over to his punching bag to stop himself from overthinking.
—
rockhard: hey, do you want to go to the mall with me?
explosionmurder1: why
rockhard: idk I'm bored
Kirishima stared at his phone. It said that Bakugou had read his text, so why wasn’t he responding?
A minute later, he noticed the three dots and almost immediately:
explosionmurder1: sure, just give me a sec
Kirishima jumped to his feet and exited his dorm room and waited in the hall.
Just a moment later, Bakugou walked out of his room and closed the door behind him.
“Alright, let’s go then,” Bakugou said.
“Yeah!”
—
“So, Shitty Hair, where do you want to go first?”
“No idea! Let’s just walk around together and see.”
Bakugou grunted a response in agreement.
They went into a game shop, Hot Topic, and a few other stores. They even went into the Apple Store to play with the phones on display at one point.
“Hey, wait, I actually need something. Can we go in here real quick?” Kirishima asked.
“Yeah, sure, but afterward we’re getting food.”
“Understood!” Kirishima said as he grabbed Bakugou’s hand without thinking and started pulling him towards the shop.
Bakugou didn’t resist, though.
When they arrived at the store, Kirishima continued leading the way until he found what he wanted.
He quickly picked up something from the underwear section, trying (but not too hard) to hide it from Bakugou. But, of course, Bakugou noticed.
“Shitty Hair,” Bakugou started, “is that a pack of sports bras?”
“Uh, well, no?” Kirishima sputtered out.
Bakugou just looked at him.
“Alright, whatever. Go check out so we can get some food.”
Kirishima walked off toward the cashiers.
Then Bakugou started overthinking.
He definitely just bought a pack of sports bras. I should know, I buy the same damn ones. He’s probably just buying them for Raccoon Eyes or something. Wait, but then wouldn’t he have said that? Hold on. Is this what dumbass, meddling Deku meant by “I don’t think he will mind?” Is he also-
“Alright, let’s head to the food court!” Kirishima was walking back toward Bakugou now, forcing Bakugou out of his thoughts.
“Yeah,” Bakugou tried to get the pack of sports bras out of his mind, “What do you want to eat? I’m thinking spicy ramen.”
“That sounds good to me! I’ll just ask for extra pork in mine.”
