    “Fuck is it?” Beckett asks. Wade swallows tightly, then takes another drag of his cigarette before offering it to him. Beckett accepts, feeling his stomach start to turn with bile. “Tell me.”
    “Boss found out about last week,” Wade mutters. “Ebri tried to cover for you, but…”
    Beckett whips his head up toward Ebrietas. His eyes dart around the vampire’s pale skin for bruises he knows he won't find, but Ebrietas looks away. The dark shadows of the hall cover his face.
    "Fuck," Beckett mutters. He brings the filter to his mouth, takes a deep lungful of smoke, and thinks. His mind tries its best to sharpen beneath the nicotine and alcohol, but ultimately fails. “I’m just gonna ditch.”
