piggyback ride

Summary:

Several confusing and distressing dreams fade into a confusing and distressing reality—it’s bright, he isn’t laying down, but he isn’t walking, either.

Legend screws up his face, then peeks an eye open to see a head of blond hair. That relaxes him slightly, and the longer he looks, the more he can see in this hair—the specific cut, the way the ends flare, the exact color that’s distinctive despite the night sky. Other clues like the metal under his knees and the texture under his face give him a fairly clear idea about what’s going on.

Notes:

response to an ask from abbycrashing: "Writing prompt: Shatterproof Legend gets a piggyback ride? You can choose if it's a good or bad situation that calls for it"

Here’s one!! Not too interesting, imo, but a nice mental return to the shatterproof boys 💖

Work Text:

Several confusing and distressing dreams fade into a confusing and distressing reality—it’s bright, he isn’t laying down, but he isn’t walking, either.

Legend screws up his face, then peeks an eye open to see a head of blond hair. That relaxes him slightly, and the longer he looks, the more he can see in this hair—the specific cut, the way the ends flare, the exact color that’s distinctive despite the night sky. Other clues like the metal under his knees and the texture under his face give him a fairly clear idea about what’s going on.

He lifts his head up off of Warriors’s shoulder with a groan. “What happened?”

Warriors turns his head, but obviously doesn’t answer. He gives Legend a smile instead, one tight at the corners. He holds Legend up against his back, arms hooked under Legend’s knees, as he walks down what appears to be an entirely normal country road, alone. It’s warm but cloudy, so at least it isn’t miserable.

Legend takes a second to orient himself and come to terms with the rocking of Warriors’s stride. Then he swats the back of Warriors’s head (gently, he is being nice, see?). “Let me down.”

Warriors hesitates, but he pulls off to the side of the road and shifts. Legend expects to be let down where he is, so he protests when Warriors pulls him around to the front with obvious strain.

“Seriously, Wars, just—no, wait, don't—” Legend does need the little bit of help that Warriors provides as his boots touch the dirt, since apparently his balance isn’t where he thought it was, but he still scowls. As soon as he can, he takes a step back and glares. “Okay, now tell me what happened, and drink some water.”

Warriors rolls his eyes, but starts signing anyway. To Legend’s relief, nothing too awful had happened, and they’re just catching up with the others.
