Chapter Text
Now, it's common sense that boynextdoor is not normal. They're crazy. Insane. But they're also supernatural.
Though not in the way you would think. It's slightly hard to explain in words from a professional. (Not really. It's quite easy actually.) So we have gathered the members here for an interview! They will tell us themselves!
How exciting is that? Yeah. So exciting.
...
"How did it happen?" Jaehyun blinks, eyes wide.. "Ah, a tale as old as time itself. Well, as old as like, last year sometime I think. but anyway! Sadly, to my sadness, to my utmost sadness, I didn't figure mine out for so long. So it'll take a while for me to get through everything. But, I'll be happy to say."
Jaehyun stands up, and begins stretching. Lunges, calf stretches, a pirouette?
"What am I doing? Preparing! Obviously? How else can I give you an accurate demonstration?" Another stretch. "Preparing for what? I'm putting on a play of course."
A pause.
"Unless you'd like a musical? Please stop? But I haven't even begun?"
...
(Nevermind, let's interview Sungho first.)
(Give the directors some time to get that spry 21 year old under control.)
...
"How did I figure out I had a power?"
Sungho looks rather disgruntled at this question, a sour upon look on his face.
"Do I have to say?"
A long, drawn out sigh.
"Fine, but it's not a very nice story, you know. So, you see here. I was warming up for our stage, and we were performing 'Crying.' Great song by the way,"
Sungho glances at the camera.
(It is a rather good song, Sungho is correct. A genuinely solid track.)
"Wait, do you want me to act this out? No? Please don't? Well, I'll do it anyway. That way you can get a real feel on how it all went down."
Sungho ignores the clear implication that he shouldn't. He stands up, shifting his weight and bringing a hand to his mouth, like he is holding a mic.
(I assume this is a mic. I'm not sure. Don't take my word for it, I'm just guessing.)
"So, I was warming up, yeah. And like-"
Sungho moved slightly to his right, changing his position.
"Woonhak was here. And he wasn't warming up. At all. Just standing there. Told me he'd warmed up enough. Which, for the record, he probably hadn't."
(Sungho looks quite offended right now. Is he really still hung up over this?)
"Oh, right, you don't care. This is about the powers. My bad. Anyway, yeah, Woonhak was there."
Sungho moves back to his original position.
"And I was here, then I started singing the chorus, right. Cause, practicing for the stage and everything. Which Woonhak was not doing, again,"
(We heard the first time. You've made the fact very clear.)
"And then he, he being Woonhak, bursts into tears! Like, he was wailing. And then everyone rushes over and they're all like, 'Are you okay, do you want a tissue?' And Woonhak's just crying and crying, like a baby. Did I stop to help him? Did I stop to help him? What sort of question is that?"
Sungho lets his hand fall to his side, his gaze fixed directly on the camera lens, deadpan. He lets out a short, sharp laugh.
"No. I did not,"
A hint of wicked amusement is to be found in his voice. Sungho then resumes his story, bringing his hand back to his face, as if emphasising his words with theatrical gestures.
"So, I kept singing like 'crying, crying, blah blah,' you know, the song. And-"
Sungho changes positions, scrunching his face up, imitating a crying person.
"Woonhak's like this next to me. Can you picture how stupid he would have looked? Like he's just going like-"
Sungho lets out a rather, interesting wailing noise, one you would expect a toddler to make, a very loud toddler.
"And I'm next to him like-"
Sungho begans to sing the chorus for crying, afterwards looking at the camera excitedly. As though he didn't get the reaction he wanted, he repeats the action.
"So, Woonhak's like this-"
Sungho lets out another wail, this one even better, somehow. Or, well, louder.
"And I'm like this-"
Sungho begins to sing once more. This time the crew is sure to laugh. They don't want to see that again.
Sungho resumes his story again, much to everyone's joy.
"And then I stop singing, cause I'm kinda worried at this point, and as soon as I stop. Like as soon as I stop. Like, immediately, he stops crying. Like as soon as I stop singing. As soon as I stop, he stops."
(Guys, I think Woonhak stopped crying when Sungho stopped singing. Just a theory though.)
"And everyone was all like, 'Woah, you good, Woonhak?' And, get this-"
Sungho changes to be Woonhak again, his tone flat and unconcerned.
"The guy just goes, 'Yep,'".
Sungho lets out a disbelieving laugh, as though it's still a crazy memory.
"He was just balling his eyes out, and he's fine? There's no way. But, you know what, we all kinda just accepted it. Which we probably shouldn't have, but can you really blame us? Like really? Woonhak's a kid, he's bound to have mood swings every once in a while."
(I don't know, I'd be kinda concerned if someone was acting like that, even if they were a kid. But maybe that's just me.)
"Oh wait, do you wanna actually know what my power is? Yes? Okay cool. So it's like, whenever I sing stuff it sometimes comes true."
(Wow Sungho.)
"Crazy right?"
(Let's move on to Riwoo, shall we?)
...
"Hi I'm Riwoo, I'm 21 years old and a member of a Korean boyband called Boynextdoor. It's a pleasure to meet you!"
(I like this guy)
"So like, about powers and stuff. Mine's kinda stupid to explain if you don't know what it is first, so I'll tell you that first."
Riwoo sits in silence for about five minutes, looking around at the room.
"Oh you want me to tell you now? Like, right now? Oh, well, if I want, any object I touch like, displays a memory. But luckily I can choose when, cause otherwise that would be hectic."
Riwoo resumes staring off into space. The camera crew brings him back to focus.
"Sorry about zoning off! Oh, well, it's not that big of a deal. Don't be so Sirius! You know, like Harry Potter?"
He is the only one laughing. No one else finds him funny. Out of camera view, Sungho lets out a boo. Riwoo scoffs at this.
"He's acting as if his interview was very good. I doubt it was. Sungho isn't funny at all. All that's good about him are his shoulders... Sorry, you're right. I should be more supportive. Actually, did you not hear my comment on his shoulders? Super supportive."
(We actually don't really care. Just do the interview.)
"Okay, so how I figured it out was kinda lame. Like, I just knew, you know? I felt it in my core. Inside me. I just knew. It was, like, this feeling right? Just...I felt it. You know? Like, super lame, I get it. But, seriously, I just did."
Riwoo side eyes a once again booing Sungho.
"Yes I know that wasn't very goo interview material. Yes that was it. No there wasn't an interesting story. Can I make one up? No I can't make one up. That's weird. Yes I get it, we're weird anyway. But I'm one of the normal ones. Yes I am. No, I'm not weird. I just said I wasn't. Yes, I am sure."
Riwoo suddenly lights up.
"Wait, can I tell a you funny story about my power?"
Sungho deflates. It looks like he knows where this is headed. A groan fills the studio.
"Shut up Sungho, I'm storytelling."
The groan stops, but Sungho remains upset.
"So, like, we were at this haunted house and Jaehyun was sooo freaked out. It was insane. Sorry, what? Was I scared?"
A bout of silence follows the question. Riwoo awkwardly looks away from the camera. We decided to move on.
"So, we were at this haunted house. And I get this great idea."
Sungho scoffs once more, earning another side eye.
"Okay fine, it was Woonhak's. But I don't even get why. He's a scaredy cat. I mean, he tries, and I appreciate that. But he gets scared so easily. So why would he want it? Anyway, we made the plan together. And that was for me to touch all the objects to display people, like ghosts."
Sungho hides his face, not that the camera can really see, anyway. Riwoo grins.
"It was the funniest thing I've seen in my life, genuinely. I mean, Taesan wasn't all too scared. Sungho was literally banging on the door to get out, it has hilarious. Leehan was kinda chill outwardly, but you could tell he was scared. And Jaehyun. Oh my god, Jaehyun. He was so freaked out."
Silence.
"Not that he wasn't already. But you get me yeah? Cool."
More silence.
"You want me to go so you can interview Jaehyun? What for? Are you interviewing how scared he got? Hey wait, that reminds me, I have a joke to tell you. It's super funny I promise."
(Please leave so we can interview Jaehyun, we're on a time limit.)
"Everyone knows the joke why was six afraid of seven, right? Well, do you know why seven ate nine? Because you need three squared meals a day!"
Riwoo once again bursts in to laughter, slapping his knee and gasping for air. Surprisingly, Sungho is laughing too.
(Maybe his humour gets worse the more they spend time together?)
(Whatever, it's Jaehyun's turn now.)
...
"Finally, I'm back!"
Jaehyun stands in the middle of the room, looking rather happy with himself.
"Yes, I know that it isn't something to proud of, the fact I was kicked out in the first place, but we all start somewhere."
The camera pans to Riwoo and Sungho shaking their heads. Jaehyun reconsiders. The camera pans back to him.
"Indeed, that was an act of egregious discourtesy. I extend my profound apologies. I ought not to have conducted myself towards the staff in such a reprehensible manner."
Jaaehyun bows. The camera turns back to focus on Riwoo and Sungho trying to stifle their laughs.
"Go away, you two. Yes, that was a direct quote from our manager. No, not the one that would never say that. Of course it wasn't him? In what world would he say that?"
(In what world would you say that? But, here we are...)
"So, are you all still happy with a musical? No? Fine... I'll just do a play. And don't tell me I can't do that because I heard Yeppi's amazing acting from outside."
Jaehyun glares off to the side, we believe the glare to be at Sungho and Riwoo.
"So, basically I was walking along, having a lovely time-"
Jaehyun is now pretending to walk across the room, whistling a rather catchy tune. He suddenly turns around.
"And now I'm some random person by the way, and-"
Jaehyun walks forward quickly, and then falls to the ground rather theatrically. He then quickly swaps spots, to another place on the ground.
"They had just ran in to me, just so you know, and then like, I was like oh my god are you okay? Cause I'm just such a good person, you know? So nonchalant. Oh sorry, we aren't allowed to use much brainrot are we? Wait is it rude to say brainrot? Sorry, I'll get back on track."
Jaehyun stands up, where he had been standing before falling. He pauses.
"To be clear, I'm me again."
(I kinda needed that, thank you...)
"And then as soon as I'm like, are you okay, they go on this massive explanation of their day, which I actually have written down somewhere, hang on, I'll get it up."
(Why do you have that written down???)
Jaehyun gets out his phone, and taps it aggressively for a few minutes, before sighing with relief.
"Found it! So, she goes..."
He turns around to face the camera.
"So, my day usually starts pretty early, around six. It's just how it is here, especially if you're working in the city. The commute's a beast, you know? The subway's packed, everyone's on their phones, trying to get to work. I usually grab something quick for breakfast, maybe toast or just coffee. Work itself is... well, it's work. Long hours, lots of deadlines. Lunch is usually a quick bite with colleagues, something from the cafeteria or a nearby restaurant. It's not exactly a leisurely affair. Evenings can be tricky. Sometimes there's a company dinner, which can go on for hours. It's a cultural thing, I guess, but it can be really tiring. If I'm lucky, I get home at a decent hour and can just chill. Maybe watch some TV, catch up on social media. It's a busy life, honestly."
The room is left stunned, as Jaehyun had delivered that, staring the camera dead in the lense, not blinking, not even taking a breath of air. The room applauds. Jaehyun bows.
"Thank you, thank you."
(That was good and all, but what was his power again?)
Jaehyun looks offended.
"My power is making people say the truth. Obviously?"
(Did he hear me?)
"Look, you don't get it. I make people say the truth."
(No. We get it.)
Jaehyun looks around the room. He points at a staff member.
"You! No, not you. You!"
The staff member waddles out to where Jaehyun is standing. Jaehyun grins.
"Do say, good friend, what is your biggest fear?"
The staff member looks embarrassed already.
" I can’t stand cucumbers. Every time I see one, I feel like I’m about to get ambushed by a gang of them. A whole gang. I imagine them showing up at my house. And-"
Jaehyun slaps a hand across the staff member's face. He looks shocked, as if he wasn't even expecting something that weird.
"You can stop now."
The staff member nods and runs away. Riwoo and Sungho send Jaehyun twin disappointed looks.
(Wow, poor guy. Well, on to the next member!)
(Oh, what's that? Lunch break? Ah well, see you guys soon!)
...
Jaehyun, Sungho and Riwoo are lounging about in their chairs. Jaehyun stretches his arms out.
"Wow, so, what do we think? I mean, that was some high-quality interview content, right?"
Riwoo looks at him, blinking slowly.
"You terrified a staff member forcing them to talk about cucumbers. I’m pretty sure there’s a support group on right now.”
Sungho sighs from beside them.
"How was he meant to know the guy was scared of cucumbers? Give Jaehyun a break, Riwoo."
Jaehyun nods in agreement.
“It’s not my fault the guy has an irrational fear of cucumbers."
...
"What was with Sungho's Broadway performance, by the way?"
Riwoo, Sungho and Jaehyun are walking along a stone path, drinks held in their hands. Sungho flushes pink at Riwoo bringing up his interview, much to both Riwoo and Jaehyun's delight.
"Real! Like, I know I performed mine too, but Sungho was like, intense."
Sungho nudges Jaehyun of the paths briefly.
"I was being committed...Leave me alone."
Riwoo laughs, clearly showing that he does not believe Sungho.
"Committed to something absolutely no one asked for? Not even that. They asked you not to do it. Imagine that. You're such a loser."
"Excuse me? My performance was art in its purest form. Someone like you wouldn't know that."
Jaehyun droops a hand over Sungho's shoulder.
"Oh, it was just such an emotional moment, right? Warming up for a performance, when suddenly, Woonhak is crying his eyes out."
"Yes! It was! Thank you! Wait...You're making fun of me."
Riwoo snorts.
"My favourite moment was when Sungho wouldn't stop singing. Not even to help his band member out. At least now we know what he really thinks of us."
Sungho lets his mouth fall open.
"I do care about you guys! I was just invested."
"Invested...Sure."
...
"Guys... I know it's time to talk about my interview but like...can we not?"
The trio are back at the filming sight, as the lunch break is almost over. Jaehyun scrunches his face up, voice turning high pitched.
"Can we not?"
His face turns back to normal.
"That's what you sounded like."
Riwoo's eyes narrow, and he raises his hand.
"I'll bitchslap you. I swear."
"Bit violent of you."
"You too Sungho."
"You know what that's so valid of you."
"Thank you."
A pause.
"Get over here Myung Jaehyun."
