Work Text:
Tweek and Craig sat idly beside each other, gazing up at the stars above Stark’s pond. Though, one of the two seemed more nervous and fidgety than usual.
And for once, it wasn’t Tweek.
Craig knew he’d been acting odd as of late, and he knew it was worrying Tweek, but no matter how hard Tweek tried to pry the truth from him, he refused to spill. This wasn’t exactly something he could just dump on some Tuesday, while Tweek was doing homework!
Tweek shifted on the plush comforter under their seats, before looking over at Craig and kissing his cheek, eliciting a surprised noise from the blue-clothed boy.
“Hey uh.. Tweek? Can I- ahem- can I talk to you about something?” Craig spoke up after a few minutes
“Uh.. sure?” Tweek nodded, looking at him expectantly.
“Well uh..” Craig sighed, scratching his neck and looking over at his lover.
He paused, taking in the lovely sight of Tweek in the moment.
Craig loved Tweek. There was no denying it. He loved him, and he thought he was the most beautiful thing on earth, despite all of his little “imperfections”, which, to Craig, were only more perfect things to kiss and praise whenever the moment called for it.
He thought that Tweek was beautiful always, he always had been, and he always would be, but now…
Tweek was captivating. Enchanting. Mystical. He looked like the stars themselves had come down to kiss his cheeks, which wasn’t fair, because that was Craig’s job.
He loved Tweek. More than the world. More than anything. And the fluttering feeling in his stomach was only enhanced when he reached into his pocket and fiddled with the small, velvety box that was tucked safely inside.
“Well,” He cleared his throat to regain composure. “It’s actually, uh, something that I’ve wanted to talk about for a while…” He admitted shyly.
Tweek cocked his head curiously.
“Uh, sure..?” He prodded, his mind already racing with things and worries that Craig might want to talk about.
“Well, you know how we’ve been together for… a wh-“
“You’re not breaking up with me, are you?” Tweek interrupted him, his hands already rising to try and pull at his hair.
“What? No, I-” Craig’s eyes widened, and his face went a little red as he pulled his hands from his pockets to reach out and take Tweek’s hands away from his hair.
“No, babe, I’m not breaking up with you. I just wanted to- uh-“ Well shit. Now his vibe had been thrown off. Maybe that was a sign, maybe it was the universe telling him to wait, that it was too soon. They were just out of high school, for god’s sake! There was no reason to rush, I mean, they had plenty of time to-
“Craig?” Tweek asked, leaning a little closer, and Craig nearly died from embarrassment. God dammit- he lost his train of thought.
“Uh, right- what uh, what was I saying?” He asked, chuckling nervously.
“Uh, you were talking about how we had been together for a while, a-and I got really scared thinking you were breaking up with me or something.” Tweek admitted sheepishly.
“Right- right, I uh-“ Craig took a deep breath, rubbing Tweek’s hands in his own, more as a grounding for Craig than comfort for Tweek.
“Yeah so, I was thinking that, I mean, we’ve been together for a while, and uh, I guess I just- uhm..” He glanced to the side nervously. “I just…”
He sighed. Damn. Now his vibe was thrown off. Maybe this wasn’t a good idea…
Tweek let out a confused noise, nudging him with his shoulder.
“Are you sure you’re not breaking up with me? ‘Cause you’re acting very ‘I’m going to break up with you’-like.” He chuckled, but Craig could hear the genuine worry behind his voice. That was always something that Craig wished Tweek would stop worrying about. Any time Craig would show the slightest hint of being different, Tweek would immediately jump to thinking he was breaking up with him.
“No, Tweek. I’m not breaking up with you. Quite the opposite actually-“ He cut himself off. Shit. Did he give it away? The look on Tweek’s face said he did. Dammit.
”…what?” Tweek asked, his heart racing.
Craig went quiet, his face bright red as he fought for words.
“I- well I mean, that’s not- I don’t-” He sighed. The small box in his pocket suddenly felt exponentially heavier, despite actually weighing very little.
Tweek tilted his head, silently urging him to continue.
Craig sighed and decided to just rip off the bandaid.
“Tweek… I love you. More than anything. You… you’re the best thing that has ever happened to me, and I- everything about you, your hair, your eyes, your face, your body, your everything feels like a blessing, and I- I want to be able to have that all to myself… forever…
“I want to be able to wake up next to you every day ‘til we’re old, ‘n gray, ‘n balding, a-and I wanna roll over and see you there, and be able to hold you close for the rest of our lives. I- I wanna hold your hands for all of eternity, and-” He paused, taking a moment to wipe a tear from his eye, then wipe one from Tweek’s cheek.
“I hope that one day, we’ll be able to run away from this hick-ass town, and be able to just exist and be free from the curse that is this place. I want to explore the world with you, go wherever we want to go.
“I wanna be able to hold, and love, and kiss you until the world falls in, so I- I just…” He swallowed thickly, and released one of Tweek’s hands to reach into his pocket, pulling out its contents. He heard Tweek take in a shuddered gasp, and his heart melted at the soft sound.
“I’ve never been good at long, sappy speeches, but I think I did pretty alright this time..” He chuckled dryly, before opening the little box, revealing the shiny, silver ring that sat inside.
“Tweek Tweak, will you m-”
“Yes!”
He didn’t even get to finish his question before Tweek jumped forward and wrapped his arms in a big hug, burying his face into his shoulder.
“Oh my god yes, Craig, yes!” Tweek cried as tears began to fall down his face.
Craig’s gasped as more of his own tears welled up in his eyes, and he hugged Tweek back tightly, sniffling into the crook of his neck.
“Oh thank god… I spent like, a month saving up for this thing…” He chuckled shakily.
He pulled back and placed a hand on Tweeks face, smiling like an idiot, before pulling him in and kissing him on his chapped lips.
God, how he loved Tweek’s lips. He loved him soo much. He loved everything about him. Everything about him. Everything from his messy hair, to his unnervingly blue eyes, to his scabbed fingers and arms. He loved his little twitches and tics, he loved his vulnerability, he loved his little freak-outs, how he’d steal Craig’s jackets (like he had tonight. Craig wasn’t complaining. Tweek looked soo good in blue), how he’d thrift random sweaters and embroider stars and planets into them for Craig, how he started using a specific brand of shampoo because it made him smell like Craig’s favorite smell, anything that had to do with Tweek, he loved.
He could hear Tweek sniffling and letting out little, happy, sobs, before he realized that he himself was letting out similar noises.
After a few minutes, they parted, and Craig took Tweek’s left hand, slipping the ring over Tweek’s finger.
“Oh jeez…” Tweek breathed, smiling blissfully as he admired the shiny gem. It was a small peridot stone.
“I uh, I got peridot… it uhm, reminded me of you..” Craig admitted sheepishly, smiling at the way the little green gem looked on his finger. He didn’t want to get a ring too big so it wouldn’t be too heavy on Tweek’s finger (when he had gifted Tweek rings in the past, he had complained about them being too large, and giving him anxiety), so he got a small one. Small and simple, just how they liked things.
Craig took Tweek’s face in his hand, brushing some of his messy, blonde hair out of his face with a soft smile, before kissing his nose and giggling. He could go on for days about all of the things he loved about Tweek. He wished he could.
Maybe he could do that on their wedding day.
