Work Text:
Judy smiled to herself. They had made genuine progress on finding Shaun- Dogmeat had detected Kellogg’s favourite cigar in an old subway, and Piper had asked if she could help Judy check it out.
Judy was… nervous. Finding Shaun was everything, but each time Piper smiled at her, she felt her heart melt a little. It was like Bonnie, back when she was in high school. They even had the same eyes. The way that they sparkled in the late autumnal sun.
The pair was making their way through the subway, “Judy- you will not believe this interview I just got! I only need one more article for this next release,” as Piper chatted excitedly beside her, Judy watched as a soft orange leaf drifted down from one of the trees, landing in Piper’s mahogany hair, settling just beside her cap.
Judy felt a soft smile form on her face, and she reached a hand up to Piper’s hair, feeling it brush past her fingers as she removed the leaf.
“Judy?” Piper’s face had flushed slightly, and Judy held the leaf up to her face, admiring how the bright sunlight filtered through, highlighting its veins.
“You,” Judy giggled, “you had a leaf.” She waved it in the air, but found her eyes drawn to Piper’s, watching as she followed the leaf with her own eyes.
