Summary:

“No. Langdon and I are just friends.”

That one statement had made every single person in the room, excluding Mel, groan at how oblivious she sounded.

Or a 5 + 1 fic where Mel and Langdon’s relationship is seen through the eyes of other people, and the one time they talk about it.

Notes:

first fic after not posting on here for half a year almost...

anyways, this will probably be uploaded daily even though i'm only posting six chapters in total.

Chapter 1: trinity

Chapter Text

Trinity Santos was not stupid.

She was clever in almost every way possible, and her skills definitely proved her right, so in short terms, she was basically a blessing come true.

Now, if anyone was to ask her if her intelligence interfered with her socialising skills, she would deny that claim, but as she sat on her apartment’s floor with her co-workers across from her she questioned her ability to make friends.

After Dennis Whitaker had become a part of her life, her other co-workers had also weaselled their way through Trinity’s heart, and even though she would never really admit it aloud, she was glad that they had decided to become a part of daily routine.

“Your turn, Mel.” Trinity stated as she flicked the small bottle in front of her lazily, whilst Samira and Javadi continued to engage in small talk.

It was their weekly “Girl’s Night”, according to Samira, and they had decided to invite themselves into Trinity’s apartment to drink some shitty wine but also to engage in crappy party games.

As of current, they had decided to play Truth or Dare, which also according to Samira was an “engaging stimulation game”, and even though Trinity had initially disapproved of it, they continued to play.

“Truth or dare, Mel?” Samira grinned, and Trinity had immediately written a mental note in her head to never let Samira be the one to choose any shitty wine, as she was ten times more enthusiastic when drunk.

Before, Melissa King had been a somewhat mystery to Trinity, and even though over time they had shared more shifts together, Mel seemed to follow a strict schedule in terms of clocking in and out of work.

However, that still didn’t stop Trinity from trying to become closer to the doctor, and because of how easy-going Mel had become, Trinity had found it easier to bond with her compared to any other doctor (apart from Whitaker, of course).

Plus, she was also pretty engaging to talk to when it came to their job since Mel was also very analytical person, and even though initially, Trinity had found it difficult to understand her properly, she had eventually become a semi-expert in understanding Mel.

Of course, the true expert was someone who had gotten on Trinity’s last nerve on her first ever shift, but she had also felt immensely guilty after his removal from the hospital.

“The true expert”, was no other than Dr Langdon, and once he had decided to come back from rehab, Trinity had noticed how Mel and Dr Langdon stuck to each other like glue.

At first, Trinity had assumed that it was because of the fact that Mel genuinely felt comfortable around Dr Langdon’s presence, but it seemed as if they were in their own universe most of the time.

But over the past few weeks, Trinity had noticed a somewhat shift in the way they interacted with one another, such as coming together to work or being each other’s emergency contact, which didn’t really bother anyone around Trinity, but she knew something was up.

“Truth.” Mel had answered, as Trinity groaned in response whilst Samira shrugged, obviously not bothered by Mel playing it safe for most of the rounds they had played.

“Are you and Dr Langdon together?” Javadi asked, and it took almost every fiber of Trinity’s being to not let out a cry of agreement.

In response, Mel blinked, not once but several times at the question that had been asked, and Trinity probably looked exasperated at the lack of acknowledgement from Mel.

“No. Langdon and I are just friends.”

That one statement had made every single person in the room, excluding Mel, groan at how oblivious she sounded.

Even Whitaker had been taken aback, and that was something else.

“Have I said something wrong?” Mel asked, as she fiddled with the ends of her hair, which Trinity had regarded as a quirk that Mel normally did when she was either nervous or overwhelmed.

In this case, Trinity assumed, she probably felt more confused than overwhelmed.

“No, Mel, you haven’t said anything wrong.” Samira had smiled at the doctor gently, and Trinity took it as a sign of regular Samira coming back to life.

“Are you guys sure? Because I’m pretty sure a collective groan from all of you means that you’re all frustrated.” Mel raised a brow at the group, and once again, Trinity felt the urge to drink another bottle of the shitty wine Samira had bought.

“Mel, you’re the only one, apart from Dana and Cassie, who talks to Langdon on a continuous day-to-day basis, even on your days off.” Trinity commented offhandedly as she looked at the bemused expression on Mel’s face.

“Isn’t that what friends do?” She had responded, but instead of Trinity asking any further questions, Samira had taken the initiative instead.

“Yes they do Mel, but I think what Victoria meant was whether or not you’re in a relationship, not with Dr Langdon exactly but-”

Just before Samira could finish her statement, Mel’s phone had rang, and as she excused herself from the group, Trinity groaned.

“I don’t think I’ve ever met someone who’s in so fucking deep.” Trinity stated out of frustration, as everyone around her hummed in agreement.

“I think Dr Langdon’s just as bad.” Whitaker mumbled quietly as Mel re-entered the room, and once again, Trinity noticed the familiar look of absolute fucking adoration all over Mel’s face.

“I have to leave now. Fr–, I mean Dr Langdon’s waiting for me outside. Thank you Trinity for inviting me! I’ll see you all on Monday.” Mel greeted everyone goodbye and Trinity almost gave herself a concussion from banging her head against her knees.

“If they don’t get together in the next few months, I’m shaving my fucking hair off.” Trinity declared after Mel had left the apartment.

“Perlah says they’ll get together in three months, but I’ve betted almost fifty dollars for the past six months.” Javadi moaned and Trinity couldn’t help but snicker at her friend’s antics.

Well, for one, Trinity hoped that whatever held Mel and Langdon from being with one another was sorted out before she lost the bet, and if that meant being an unspoken third wheel, she was determined to get them together.

Even if it meant rooting for an almost straight couple, Trinity had guaranteed that Dr Langdon’s behaviour would further improve if he got his shit together and asked out Mel, and if he didn’t, well, it was safe to say that Trinity would lose almost all her betting money.

She wasn’t going to let that happen because Trinity Santos was not stupid , and she was also not going to let her friend get hurt, despite her dislike for Dr Langdon.

She was going to root for Melissa King, even if it meant losing money.
