Chapter Text

Hope.

That is all she felt when she saw Mira and Zoey off stage and she put together that it was a trick. she had hope, hope they wouldn’t leave, that they wouldn’t hate her, hope they still loved her. Oh but hope is truly evil isn’t it.

She only took a single step one single step to them and all of that hope was gone, they walked backwards in fear or disgust it didn’t matter only that they did.

“Ru, how do you have … patterns?”
Concern, rumi heard it in Zoey’s tone, she was concerned, about what she couldn’t tell.

“No… no… no… you were never meant to see these you were never meant to know.”

She still doesn’t know why she said that, maybe if she told them the truth she wouldn’t be where she is now.

“You… were hiding THIS from us!”
Anger, rumi knew that was going to happen especially from Mira but it still hurt all the less.

“This whole time, for years after everything?!” Betrayal, that is all rumi could see from Mira’s face, she betrayed them since the day they met all those years ago.

“No well yes, but I had a plan jinu wa-“
Why would she ever bring up his name, the name that sealed her fate

“Jinu. Your working with him”
Zoey, rumi looked at her and only saw disgust, and that hurt more than any pain rumi had felt before and after that one look broke her heart forever.

“N… n… no, I was using him to fix everything, fix me. To truly be together” rumi was just begging to be forgiven, for a way out, a way to justify her sins.

“How could we ever be together if we can’t tell your lies from your truths rumi.” Rumi. in the 3 years they were together Zoey never once called her rumi unless they were in public, but never when it was the three of them even at their lowest’s.

“I knew it. I knew it was to good to be true.”
It killed Mira to say that, to admit that everything they were, was a lie, a cover, just an act.

“No, please Mira. Didn’t you see the gold? please we are so close it’s not to late we can go back on stage and say it was just a misunderstanding or fakes.”
She was begging more than before, begging for what exactly though? Forgiveness? Help? Love? Or maybe something else. But what ever it was she wanted, she never got. They kept walking back, kept making distance.

“No please don’t go, don’t leave. Don’t leave me.” No hope, no love.

They kept walking backwards in fear.
“I CAN STILL FIX IT!” The last nail in her coffin. The honmon rippled all around them, so a hunter does its job.

Mira is the first, she raises her blade and steeped forward. Fear was the only emotion anyone felt in that alley. Rumi was the least afraid only looking away when she heard a whimper, she looked at Zoey, the girl who truly made them fit together and only said one word.

“Please.”
Please for what exactly? who knows, who cares.

Zoey then swallows her emotions and holds up 4 out of 6 the blades of her weapon, her weapon that both Mira and Rumi joked with when she first got them for being as small as her, Only to find out that they stung as much as she did.

With that rumi is completely broken, she collapsed to the floor and when her knees hit the ground… the honmon tears all around them so many faceless demons craw their way out and attack not getting far though, in fact they were all dead in only a minute or two and then the cracks were healed.

“Something is wrong, they shouldn’t be that weak it was practically pointless”
Mira pointed out first. She turned around and looked at where Rumi was just a minute ago. And nothing but her sword the sword that her adopted mother used to use, the weapon that has the most demon and human blood on it in hunter history. And one more thing, a slowly healing crack, slower than the others like it wanted them to see, It wanted them to know what happened to their ex.

It wanted them to know what they did, that Rumi was now down in hell with all the other demons just like her.

It whispered a single question. What happens to a demon with feelings?

2 days later and nothing happened. The honmon is still in trouble but Mira and Zoey managed to repair it to the extent it was a little worse then it was before the idol awards.

But the majority of that credit goes to the PR team, who against Zoey and Mira’s first wishes, completely threw Rumi under the bus.

Mira crumbled first and convinced Zoey and Bobby to go along with the idea, none of them liked it and it hurt after being told all the ways the team thought of to run rumi’s name through the mud just to try and regain fans.

They went with something not to monstrous so that they would eventually be able to forgive her and take her home, but not to week that made it seem overblown. So on the first day at noon they went on an interview

“Recently me and Zoey discovered that rumi has been lying to us about her life off stage. Rumi has been doing actions that do not align with huntr/x’s goals and beliefs, those actions are linked to the tattoos she had during the awards.” Mira said reluctantly and heart broken.

“But that doesn’t excuse are actions on stage we should never have did that in public, especially on stage please forgive us for are actions” Zoey add on trying to make the three girls share the blame.

“With a heavy heart we have decided to suspend rumi from the group indefinitely, we hope she can change her ways and make amends. But until then me and Zoey will still be a group and make songs” Mira finished the statement with, with the interviewer asking additional questions that they gave empty answers to. After that the PR team made them remove rumi from any ongoing promotions.

At 3 pm the girls tried to come in contact with Celine but she only said one sentence “I will be over tomorrow to talk in person.” They agreed

Since the awards Mira and Zoey have been on edge, not a single demon not one, not a foot soldier or a saja boy. They didn’t answer why they “argued” at the idol awards or gave a fake heart break response to rumi being suspended nothing at all, they practically disappeared.

They didn’t slept, they swore not to till they found rumi and make amends. they went out and tried to find an opening that demons could craw through but they never found any, they weren’t attacking.

They got home at 2 am, and Mira simply screamed

“GOD FUCKING DAMN IT, WHY, WHY DID WE HAVE TO PUSH HER DOWN ITS NOT FAIR— her screams swiftly turned into tears and she fell to the ground having Zoey catch her— it’s not fair she doesn’t deserve what ever pain is happening to her down there, she deserves to be happy” Zoey tried to calm her down, tried not to cry with her, tried to be strong enough for her, but she couldn’t.

They woke up at 5 on the couch after a one of the staff notified them that Celine was here. They told them to let her up and they quickly got dressed, and then she knocked on the door.

“May I come in girls I’m sure you have many questions and I’ll be happy to answer them all?” She asked, after they let her in she made the three of them some tea and sat down at the couch.

Before any either of them asked any question Celine went first “So first off, rumi never made a deal with gwi-ma she was born half demon with patterns. second she never wanted to hide it from you it is fully my fault I made a mistake thinking that you both wouldn’t trust her anymore.”

Mira and Zoey look at each other and Zoey asked one question, “why did you keep saying there is no good demons, that each one deserves death, that they are emotionless monsters, right in front of her face?”

Celine looked down in shame “I couldn’t ever make a justifiable reason for my actions and all I have done is make things worse for her so all I can say is because that’s how I was trained I didn’t know what else to do, I’m apologize I wasn’t what she needed.”

For the next few hours they talked and tried to make plans of how to find her till it was late enough for Mira and Zoey to get back to hunting, they still couldn’t find anything nothing is happening with the demons there is nothing they can do to rescue rumi if there is no way to get to hell.

But on the 3rd day.

One simple post on twitter, the saja boys would be doing a victory concert at 6:30 pm tonight. they didn’t know what to do they couldn’t just show up they would cause a scene so they decided to watch from a far distance on a nearby roof.

The two of them camped out for the entire day on that room till show started. They watched thousands of people show up, “all of these people are going to have their soul stolen soon and there is so little we can do right now.” Zoey realizes heartbroken at the words.

“We won’t have that happen zo” Mira said trying to comfort her partner to little effect. A few seconds later music was being played to signal the audience that the concert was about to start.

Each of them came on stage one at a time with mountains of applause, jinu started with a speech of how grateful they were to the fans allowing them to come so far in just 3 weeks. They started with soda pop Mira wanted to stab her ears. And played a few other new songs [that the writer didn’t want to come up with names for].

After all the promoted songs were finished all the boys went of stage except jinu. “Thank you all so much for coming I just have one more announcement for you all, the saja boys will be collaborating with a special guest for a new song during are next concert.”

The crowd looked in surprise while huntr/x was in totally filled with dread, “she couldn’t, she wouldn’t. Right.” Zoey looked at Mira pleading that this collaboration isn’t with her.

“Please welcome to the stage the one and only Rumi!” Rumi ran on stage holding a mic in her right hand. The crowd bursted into applause and cheers with some boos here and there but only one person was crying.

“How, why is she with THEM” Zoey whispered crying into Mira’s shoulder. Mira wasn’t shocked, they betrayed her. the demons took her in, who else was she to turn to.

“Thank you jinu and the saja boys for letting me work with such a great team, despite the false allegations pressed against me by my friends—she turns and looks exactly at Mira and Zoey and smile before turning back— I will address those tomorrow as well as more details about the collaboration tomorrow at 12:30 on a interview but till then thank you all and goodnight”

She walked off stage and the smile dropped fast she pulled up her hoodie and started walking, she pulled out a note pad and started humming a tune while writing lyrics down. She walked till she got to a warehouse and entered it.

Mira quickly called Celine and asked her to come to her location from the pent house, Celine rushed as fast as her aging legs could run. By the time she got there rumi was in the warehouse for 10 minutes. “What took so long?” Mira asked bluntly.

“Your understand when your older”. The three of them decided not to sneak in and just face rumi directly. When they entered they called her name and said they only wanted to talk. They noticed her sword implanted straight into the wall stabbing the honmon making it glow red.

Rumi steeped in front of it. “Took you long enough, didn’t expect you to bring her—she said bluntly with practically no emotion— ah it doesn’t matter anyway just a week old lady” all three of them felt uncomfortable and Rumi could tell. “Now getting to the point, this— she points to her sword in the honmon— I’m going to just grab it real quick—she grabs it and starts dragging it across the wall cutting the honmon like butter— don’t mind me just working” Mira and Zoey get in a fighting stance and Rumi scoffs.

When she got back to the point of origin she rips the blade out and the honmon tear’s open and hundreds of faceless demons craw through, Mira and Zoey start killing while Celine try’s to talk Rumi down but she ignores any attempt. “Welp you all have your hands full I’ll be out of your hair”

Rumi grabs her notepad and starts to teleport “NO YOU DONT!” Zoey yells as she jumps near rumi teleporting with her to an unknown location.

Mira watches and panics “ZOEY!” She slices the remaining demons into a million pieces before running to the spot they left her, “come back, I can’t lose you both”

Chapter Text

The reappeared in an instant, Zoey felt like throwing up but she shook her head and looked around and was confused to say the least, she was simply in an office building.

She heard a door open, and looked to her right to see Rumi looking down on her note pad writing and scratching things out.

Zoey did her best to sneak in undetected hiding behind bookshelf next to the door. when she hid behind it Rumi finally put the notepad down with a slam.

“Ok Rumi it’s fine, it’s fine, just have to write the best rap segment for someone with a style you’ve never written for, to destroy something you spent your whole monstrous life defending. Fuck I just need a few minutes to relax and then get back to work” purple mist overtook rumi and when it blew away her patterns where a much more darker shade of purple, Zoey saw as she reached for her right eye and plucked out a glass eye. And her hand was just a purple flame with a wrist band on the joint which rumi turned off and removed.

But Zoey also saw something on her chest, a scar from a surgery it started at the top of her chest and ended at her pelvis. She felt like throwing up, she thought of all the things those demons did to her rumi, all the things she was unable to shield her from, all the things she caused by raising those fucking weapons at her. She had to hold back the tears she needed more information and where they were.

Eventually rumi was done her break and opened her notebook and started writing, she then looked up and had a thought, then she smiled and looked directly at the bookshelf, “Zoey dear would you mind helping me with this?”

She sighed and walked out of her hiding space she tried to summon at least one of her blades but couldn’t. So she staled with some questions. “Come on, how did you know I was here?”

Rumi looked at her with her one eye and sighed, “ did you really think I didn’t feel you teleport with me. And besides I heard you tearing up when I took of my disguise, - when rumi said that last part she looked down and closed her eye.- like my new look?”

Zoey didn’t really know how to respond, of course she didn’t she was damaged missing parts, cuts, scars, and burns all over her once clean skin. “W…who did this to you.”

Rumi simply sighed. “You and Mira of course, who else, you both sent almost killed me. If it wasn’t for gwi-ma I wouldn’t be here. Sure you didn’t do the damage -she held up her arm with just a stump on the end.- but it’s still on you both.”

Zoey was tearing up she how every world Rumi said was true. “But no more questions I need help writing baby’s rap segment in are collab song you know I’ve always sucked at that and it’s the last part I need to write for there part.” Rumi told her brushing the perverse conversation to the side.

Zoey looked at Rumi with both confusion and disbelief. “No, no, why would I ever help with that. Ru I don’t care what we’ve done, I’m here for you. Come back and help fix what’s broken, please come home.”

Rumi looked down thinking, and then stood up.
“Do you want to know what has happened to me Zoey? I had my eye removed by a demons claw, I was stuck in a room where time when by slower making you 2 days my year and a half, I had my hand chopped off with a dagger that was just pulled out of a fire, and then to end my torment the demons opened my body removed everything human and replaced it with demon parts, and then MADE ME EAT MY OWN ORGANS!! But there is light at the end of the tunnel, once I finish helping the demons I get a reward and I know exactly what I want.”

Zoey was full on crying not knowing what to do or say next she didn’t care she just wanted rumi to be ok and happy. “Ru, I… please we can help you it doesn’t have to end this way” she was begging for things to be normal again.

“Your a fool Zoey, a goof, an idiot, just apart of hunt/x to be the maknae, to be the cute one, always to much, but never enough for what we needed, that’s what everyone in the world thinks of you zo, they all think your a fool, but not me, or Mira, please join me and we can convince Mira to join and we can go back to being the family we all wanted.” Rumi said with multiple tones in her voice making Zoey heart break with every word.

“No, it doesn’t matter what anyone thinks of me they don’t deserve death because of that no one does.” Zoey said in a instant pushing all the voices to the side not letting a single one in her head.

Rumi looked down and simply said “your choice.” Before 2 demons appeared and grabbed her arms and she tried to get them off of her, “she hates being alone, put her in the room and let no one enter except me or anyone I allow. But no physical harm shall come to her” Rumi quickly said looking directly at Zoey who was staring back angrily hiding her fears while being dragged out of the office.

She was dragged through multiple cords and rooms before finding the stairs when someone stoped them. “I’ll take her you both take a break go up and take some souls.” Zoey looked up and saw jinu talking to the demons and they listened and left. Zoey braced for any pain and to be isolated form everyone but instead he grabbed her hand and whipped run.
