“Hirano-san…?” Called out a sleepy voice from the other side of the room.
Hirano stirred, cracking his eyes open blearily. He couldn’t see anything, the room was too dark and the curtains were drawn, blocking the moonlight from illuminating the space. “What is it, Kagi-kun?”
“Are you scared of― ” A yawn cut Kagiura off mid-way. “―Thunderstorms?”
“Not in particular.” Hirano answered, trying to stifle a yawn himself and doing his best to shrug under the covers when he realized that it was too dark for Kagiura to see him. “Why, are you?”
From across the room, head peeking out from underneath the covers, Kagiura nodded.
Well, shit. Hirano didn’t know what to do in these sorts of situations. He usually slept through storms and earthquakes like a rock, only waking up if the event was far too loud or the earthquake caused half the things in his house to fall over.
“Can you sleep?” He asked after a second, before realizing what a stupid question had fallen out of his mouth.
In the darkness, Hirano could barely make out Kagiura shaking his head.
Hirano would be honest: he was kind of surprised that Kagiura, who could willingly transport himself to Morpheus’ realm whenever he wanted, was scared of physics that happened in the sky.
“Hirano-san,” Kagiura’s voice was quiet and Hirano could hear the small tremble in the usually petulant voice. “Can I be selfish, just for today?”
Hirano didn’t know what ― he did have some sort of idea, actually ― Kagiura meant by ‘selfish’ but he nodded anyway. “Just for today,” he relented, finding that he didn’t really mind Kagiura being needy with him ― he never had.
Kagiura was jumping out of his bed, freezing for a second when another clap of thunder rang out, reverberating through the dorm walls.
That was when Hirano realized what Kagiura wanted ― no, needed ― at that moment.
Then suddenly, his arms were working faster than his brain and emotions, throwing off the blanket and shuffling towards the wall to make space for Kagiura to slip in. He wasn’t sure what brought this urge about ― maybe it was because he didn’t like seeing Kagiura in pain, or maybe it was because he could do something about it to ease Kagiura’s fears and he’d be a fool to not do so.
“You better sleep,” Hirano said, a yawn making its way halfway through as Kagiura climbed into the bed, shuffling around and pulling on the blankets until it covered both of them ― except that Kagiura’s toes were sticking out at the end since the blanket was too short for him. “This doesn’t count for the ten-seconds.” He added, having a feeling that it would ease half of Kagiura’s doubts.
The brown haired boy was quick to turn onto his side, fingers gripping onto the fabric of Hirano’s shirt, pulling the blonde close. “Thank you very much, Hirano-san,” he mumbled, pressing his face to Hirano’s chest.
“Mhm,” Hirano hummed, already sounding half-asleep. “Good night, Kagi-kun.” Already having a foot in Morpheus’ Realm and not really aware of his actions, he managed to wrap an arm around Kagiura’s shoulder, pulling the boy closer until he could feel the warmth pressing against his body.
“Good night, Hirano-san.” Kagiura murmured, his voice muffled by Hirano’s chest.
Simply listening to the steady beating of Hirano’s heart was enough to erase half the fear he felt at that moment. Being next to the person he loved more than anything else caused him to immediately relax, melting into the blonde.
I really love him…
