Chapter Text
Sandra knew today was the day she was going to die. She had a feeling this was going to happen to her, she just didn’t know it was going to be from an air conditioner falling. What an arbitrary way to die in a magical city like this. Fawcett has been her home for 20 years now, and she always knew that it was gonna be the death of her. Although she thought it was gonna be by magic, not by a household coolant. Sandra closed her eyes, accepting her fate.
“Are you okay?” She heard a sonorous voice question from above, causing her to open her eyes and quickly look up. There was the new superhero of Fawcett, Captain Marvel. Her mouth dropped open, not expecting anyone to save her. Captain Marvel’s face furrowed in what looked to be confusion, but she couldn’t dwell on it any further.
Captain Marvel caught the air conditioner falling, saving her from what she thought was a dreadful end. He even makes it look like nothing, as if he just caught a baseball on the field. Awe suddenly filled Sandra’s heart, knowing that this is her savior.
“Thank you, Captain Marvel.” Sandra thanked him in what she hoped was a calm voice. By the way he looked at her though, she didn’t do a very good job of that. She felt as though he was staring into her very soul, picking apart everything she ever was and ever will be.
“If you ever need anything, just let me know. It’s okay to not feel okay. All your feelings are valid ones.” Captain Marvel reassured her. Much to her surprise he wasn’t even looking at her with pity, just an expression of understanding. She never thought a superhero could look so down to earth, but here is Captain Marvel, in all his glory.
“I’ll be right back, I just have to return this AC unit, stay here for a minute!” Captain Marvel told her, and so she stayed on the ground while he flew up, looking for the window the unit had dropped from. She could not tell what was said, but when he flew back down to her, he had a gentle smile on his face. “What are you still doing on the ground? Here I’ll help you up!”
He held out his hand, looking at Sandra ,imploring her to take the help. She did, grabbing the hand that can so easily stop hundreds of pounds from crushing her. His hand didn’t tug her up like she expected, instead he held his hand still, allowing her to push herself up. She never knew a hero so strong could be a gentleman. She takes back her hand, staring at it in awe.
“Hey I think I recognize you, you work for WHIZ right? Here, I’ll walk you over there.” Captain Marvel offered, holding out his arm for her to take. Sandra took it, this time smiling gently at him. He smiled wider back, starting slow strides as to keep pace with Sandra.
This is when Sandra realized, she really admired the new hero in town, and would support him forevermore.
