Work Text:
Grian was back in his old world.
Code crumbling around him, and corrupted mobs all around him.
Only this time, he wasn’t left due to survival.
He was left because he was an annoyance-
A pain.
A problem child
His Dads, Impulse and Skizz dropped him off here-
They didn’t want a clingy child.
They didn’t want to have to clean up his pranks or preen his wings.
He was a nuisance—!
A bother-!
A Mistake!
He chose them.
But they didn’t choose him back-
They didn’t want him!
So they left him to die.
The corrupted mobs began to scratch and pull at Grian’s limbs.
He cried out, chirping and warbling in distress.
He saw Impulse and Skizz in the distance.
Walking away-
Leaving him behind.
Then the corrupted creeper came into view and everything went white.

Grian woke up with a startled cry, fear and adrenaline pumping through his veins.
He didn’t want to be left to die-
Not again!
Then a sleepy voice spoke up next to him.
“ Grian?? You okay?? What wrong kiddo?”
Skizz,
Dad!
Flock-
The Angel looked at Grian with concern in his eyes, bringing up his hand to rest gently over Grian’s entire back and half devolved baby wings.
Grian’s breath caught before his sobs came in full-
Giant fat tears pouring down his face as distressed chirps and warbles made their way out as well.
“Hey it’s okay buddy, I’m here, Dad’s right here-“
Skizz carefully pulled the parrot hybrid closer to his chest.
“Don’t leave me Daddy- please! I’ll be a better kid, I promise!!” Grian wailed, grabbing a fist full of Skizz’s t-shirt and praying he had the strength to hold on.
Skizz’s mind seemed to wake up fully at this comment as he stared at Grian with wide worried eyes.
“Buddy, where is this coming from?? Of course I wouldn’t leave you- and you’re a wonderful kid. I’d be an idiot to think otherwise.”
“B-b-but you and P-Papa Impy left!!” Grian’s breath trembled at the words “you brought me back and left me cuz I was a bad kid!!”
“Oh Birdy-… that’s a terrible nightmare” a gentle hand began to scratch in between his baby wings, and the motion helped relax Grian’s tense body.
“Me and Papa Impulse would never leave you back in that place. Never leave you, period! We both love you very much- no matter what you do, that’s not going to change.”
Grian took in another trembling breath “you promise?-“
“Promise.”
“Would Papa Impy Promise?”
“In a heartbeat, you should ask him tomorrow morning-“
“Why not now?” Grian’s bottom lip trembled at the thought of not knowing what his other Dad thought about leaving him behind-
“Dipple Dop is asleep back in his base, Birdy- it’s too late at night for an outing, there will be mobby Dobs.
Best wait till morning.”
“Ok…..” Grian didn’t like it- but he didn’t wanna see any mobs, especially not any Creepers right now.
So instead he curled into his Dad’s Chest, ear pressed against his heart beat.
Skizz’s hand, still gently moved between his wings and it brought him peace
And it drowned out the fear.
“I’ll protect you from those nightmares Birdy- just rest.”
And Grian trusted his Dad would do just that-
Letting himself drift off into a much more comfortable sleep.
