Work Text:

- Skizz

Skizz couldn’t help but be nervous as he set up snackies for this evening’s poker night.

His mind was racing of different possibilities of what could happen when (if?) Impulse met his work friends.

The chaos of trying to explain to Zed and Scar who Impulse was and why he was so small already seemed like a bit of a headache he wanted to avoid.
But the wasn’t an easy way to tell them about Impulse.

Skizz considered being blunt.

But that wasn’t fair to any of his friends-

Blunt introductions were always the most awkward and it was likely already going to be awkward enough for his work friends to learn things like borrowers existed in this world.

So yeah-

Skizz was nervous.

And if Skizz was nervous, then Impulse had to be near a full blow anxiety attack.

The borrower was pacing the length of the coffee table- dodging the bowls of snacks Skizz had placed down and quietly muttering to himself.

They had talked about this multiple times since originally inviting Scar and Zedaph over.

Impulse was going to stay hidden in Skizz’s hoodie, and after seen the other two humans he got to decide if he wanted to meet them or not.

No pressure or anything else

“Hey Dipple Dop you feeling alright?? We don’t have to do this if you don’t want-“

Impulse paused his pacing to look up at his human.
“No- no I want to at least try… I’m just… I don’t know what to say to them! Or how we’re even going to meet in the first place-
I don’t-… I don’t want things to be awkward or somehow go terribly wrong.”

As Impulse rambles about his own anxious thoughts Skizz couldn’t help but chuckle as he sat down next to the coffee table, more eye level with his borrower.

“I feel ya man, I’m thinking the exact same stuff. Last thing I want is for my best buds to not get along-
Or have there be some weird misunderstanding.”

“Exactly! And I don’t want to be caught off guard either like if one of them finds me before we’re introduced! That would be extra awkward.”

Skizz nodded his head slowly, “I think we’re both nervous about the initial introduction, but… I promise you both Scar and Zed are some of the sweetest people I’ve ever met-“

Impulse raised both of his hands up towards Skizz like I child would if they wanted to be picked up,
And Skizz followed that by placing his palm down in front of the borrower.

“I trust you Skizz… and I’m sure your friends will be great-“
as he Spoke Impulse climbed onto the human’s hand and familiarly wrapped his tail around Skizz’s ring finger.
“I just… haven’t been able to meet anyone normally… … .. actually I don’t think I have…
Growing up I had my family and, it’s not like we met other borrowers… and then with everything that happened and meeting you….”

“It’s all been something that happened to you- not something you chose to do.”

“Yes. Exactly…. .. not that I didn’t want to meet you buddy but-“

“No no, I understand what you’re saying, and it is pretty nerve wracking… but just remember, your going to be with me the entire time, and if you don’t wanna meet them-
Then you don’t have to… I’m not going to force you to introduce yourself.”

Skizz brought up the hand holding Impulse, and pulled up his hood, slipping on his sun glasses.

“Are you sure your friends won’t be suspicious that you’re wearing your hood up indoors?”

“Nah- it’s like normal poker player wear, hides my emotions better-“

“Mmmmm” Impulse Hummed, not entirely convinced-
But the borrower’s smirk said it all.

“Oh shush ya little jerk! It’ll be just fine.”

Impulse giggled, and Skizz rolled his eyes.

“You can be a little gremlin sometimes, you know that right-?”

Impulse just smiled at his friend “it’s my family legacy dude, and if you think I’m chaotic you would’ve loved to meet my little brothers…they…
They were crazy at times.”

Now it was Skizz’s turn to hum, smiling solemnly. “I sure I would’ve loved them Impy-“

And with that both friends fell into a comfortable silence.

Until a knock can at the door-

- Scar

Scar was rather excited for tonight, poker at Skizz’s apartment.

An escape from his parent’s mansion, and the head ache of constant construction.

Honestly not even his own parents stuck around for the construction, instead going to their mountain house in Canada-
The Least wheelchair friendly house they owned.

So Scar stayed back home.

Not that he would want to go anyways

But still, it’s was a questionable choice.

They had instructed the maids and servants to look after Scar, but he had actually gotten pretty good at looking after most things himself.
It was just getting in and out of bed
And anything washroom related,

but those were the only things he really needed assistance with.

But an escape from all of that was going to feel nice-

“You look really fancy-“ Bdub said from the art desk, as Scar rolled out from his closet.

Scar had picked out a vertical striped teal and orange button up shirt paired with a pair of tinted orange glasses to match.

“Why thank you Dubs- I wanted to look nicer than usual for this- I don’t get to go out very often so might as well right?”

The borrower nodded “yes very nice- and nice little front pocket for little ol’ Me!”

Scar chuckled softly before rolling over closer to the art desk and holding out his hand to Bdubs.

“You sure you wanna come with me to this thing?”

“Are you really going to be comfortable knowing you left me here all by my lonesome?!” he retorted. Before jumping into Scar’s palm and wrapping his tail around the Human’s thumb for balance

Scar smirked, “no- that would probably add a lot more anxiety to my night than is necessarily healthy”

“Exactly! I gotta keep my big brother as healthy as I can-“ Bdubs crossed his arms and nodded in a very serious way.

Which just sent Scar into giggles, which- unfortunately triggered a mean coughing fit.
He was quick to tuck Bdubs closer to his chest to shield him from worst of it-

Bdubs worriedly tightened his tail around Scar’s thumb, till the worst of it was over.

“I’m so sorry Scar, I didn’t mean-“

“Don’t” Scar interrupted- “it’s not you- - not your fault Dubs,” the Human smiled down his adoptive little brother

“Still-“

“Nope- no apologies for making me laugh,”

Bdubs frowned, before shoving his hands in the pockets of his vest.
“Fine but- make sure you bring your inhaler over to Skizz’s place-“

“Oo! That’s a good idea, I would’ve forgotten-“

“Scar!”

“What?”

Bdubs Sighed, “your lucky I let you kidnap me”

“Kidnap?!, what an outrageous accusation Dubs, you came back of your own volition”

“Pity, clearly you wouldn’t survive a day without me-“

Again Scar chuckled, this time softer so not trigger the coughing.

“You kidnapped yourself then-“

Bdubs smiled “yeah I guess I did, but you’re the lesser of two evils.”

“Oh you little gremlin-!” as Scar said this, he poked Bdubs’ side with his index finger which sent the borrower into giggles as he tried to swat him away-

The two Brothers spent the rest of their time happily waiting with each other.
until Zedaph pulled up in a wheelchair friendly taxi to pick them up.

- Zedaph

Zed felt a little awkward when the wheelchair friendly taxi pulled up and he was without a wheelchair.

The driver gave him a disappointing look to when Zed quickly tried to explain how they were going to pick up his friend who would need this vehicle.

But the driver just rolled his eyes then rolled up the window dividing the front from the backseats-

Zedaph sighed in defeat, “great, now he just thinks I’m a selfish guy who wanted extra leg room-“

“Pfft, who cares what that guy thinks? It’s not like you’ll see him ever see him again-“
Tango piped in from his hiding spot.

“I care Tango- people tell their friends about the stupid people they dealt with at work.”

“Again- so? They don’t actually know you- so it doesn’t matter.”

“I know it doesn’t I just…” Zed dipped his head in shame, “I just take things too much to heart sometimes…“

“Whoa! Hey, careful bout hanging your head to low Zeddy- Imma fall off-“

Zedaph immediately sat up straight again,
“Sorry Tango! I forgot you were up there.”

The human felt a slight tug on his hair as the borrower re-balanced himself

“It’s fine buddy, but I’m definitely going to be tying myself down with your hair-“

“Please nuuuu- it’ll be so painful to brush out later-“

Tango sighed, half hearted from his normal sighs of frustration.

“Fiiine, just don’t be all sads over people that don’t matter-“

“I- I can try Man. It’s just… easier said than done.”

“Your not defined by what others think about you dude, your wonderfully weird in your own Zedaphy way- “

“You think I’m weird???”

“In a good way man, I mean not many other humans would put up with me for as long as you have-“

Zedaph lightly giggled, “thanks Tango.., I mean for recognizing my incredible effort to hang out with you- it’s really difficult at times-“

“Yeah yeah, and that’s the last time I’ll ever be nice to you so shut up-“

Both of them were laughing now, and Zedaph’s awkwardness melted away.

“Thanks for coming with me tonight Tango, even if we’re not talking much when we’re there it’s… it’s gunna be easier with you there…”

“Aren’t these your friends??”

“They are- but…we haven’t really done anything together outside of work before… and as you just seen, I’m an awkward guy.”

“Whaaaat, noooo- reaaalllyy??!” Tango’s sarcasm dripped mockingly from his voice and Zedaph could only roll his eyes.

“You know what I mean-“

Tango giggled, “yeah, I get it- but just remember, they’re willing to invite your stupid face over to play games with Zeddy- they probably don’t mind if you’re a little awkward.”

Zed sighed, “why does stuff make sense when you say it like that-?”

“I’m a genius, that’s why.”

“Mmmmmm-“

“Hey!”

“I didn’t say anything-“

“You said it in your mind-“

“Nope!”

“I’m on your brain, I can hear your thoughts-“

“That’s not a thing-“

“Uh huh, is too-“

“What am I thinking right now then?”

“Your thinking about how wrong you were and how smart I am-“

“Wrong”

“You can’t deny it- I heard it straight from your head-“

This sent Zed back into giggles, with Tango following close behind-

“We’re both stupid man-“

“Yeah a little-“

Then the driver’s back window rolled down again, and they both promptly shut up-

“We’re here Bub, we picking up your friend or what?”

“Oh right- um thank you. Let me just go grab him really quick.”

“Yeah whatever man, your paying for it-“

Zed swallowed hard hopping that Scar was able to pull some funds from his parents for this ride, cuz he definitely couldn’t afford this ride on his poor student loaned butt.

But still, he had to remind himself this was going to be fun.
He was going to hang out with his friends,
And he wouldn’t be alone.

Though he definitely felt it has Tango Tied himself down with a lock of Zed’s hair.
… Great…

Such a gremlin.

Skizz opened the door to his friends, greeting them with a smile, and asking them about the drive over-
Impulse tucked away safely on his shoulder in the shadows of his hood.

Zedaph beamed at their host, as he helped push Scar inside Skizz’s apartment commenting how the taxi drive was a little rude but was nice when Scar joined him.
Tango hidden within his blond messy hair and tied down so he wouldn’t fall off.

Scar chatted about how nice it was to go to a building with an actual service elevator. Accessibility- what a novel idea!
Bdubs curled up in his front shirt pocket, already close to falling asleep.

This was going to be Fun.
