Focused as he is on Hotguy, Cub barely notices himself being backed into a corner. Cub’s powers mean that the world holds very few actual corners for him, but- A selfish urge, to have Hotguy’s hands on him, to be slammed against a wall- To make the whole thing real.
A miscalculation. Hotguy does lay hands on him, but not to throw.

Hotguy’s power suppression cuffs. Cub had forgotten them. Hotguy never uses them on Cub.
Hotguy looks almost as startled as Cub does by his own actions. By the cuff on Cub’s wrist, real and solid.
If Cub phases out now, everyone will know. Hotguy will know. For the sake of his powers ruse, Cub has to pretend his powers are properly suppressed by the cuffs.
In a snap decision Cub may never understand about himself, he snatches the other cuff out of Hotguy’s hand, slapping it closed around Hotguy’s wrist with a second decisive click.Or:

Grian moves back to England from Japan at 16, halfway through what will be his first year of college, majoring in music. He gets a job at a local cat cafe, moves in with his old friends, and is just trying to stay on his feet.
Scar, on the other hand, barely has feet to stand on. Living with his childhood friend Cub, he’s just about getting by. He can’t keep a job, keep up with his architecture coursework, or keep up with his own illness, but he still just floats through life.
And now there was a cute guy working at his favourite cafe.

“They want us to take in a hybrid?”
Scar doesn’t even try to hide the surprise and confusion in his words. Staring at Cub with both eyebrows raised to his hairline.
“I thought hybrid zoos were deemed too dangerous for the public.” Scar waves a hand over in the vague direction of the zoo exhibits they do have. “Not to mention we were never intended to be that kind of zoo, why us?”
Scar was just a humble zookeeper, he wasn't prepared to deal with this pesky bird that seems much more intelligent than everyone says he should be, but he isn't one to turn down an animal in need. Grian is just happy to be somewhere where he can lay on something soft, even if the humans are weird at this facility. Especially that scarred one.

He was going to die here. That was a guarantee.
More blood filled his throat, and this time, he couldn't clear it. He couldn't breathe, it had filled his lungs, his airways, his nose and mouth. Another pointless surge of adrenaline washed through him, begging for him to fight back against it, but there was nothing he could do. He could only sit there on his knees, eyes wide, hand pressed against the gaping wound in his stomach as his heart thudded in his chest and his mind screamed for him to breathe.
"Oh, Scar."
A gentle voice. Soft, calm, soothing. Coming from everywhere and nowhere at once.
Scar had heard from other soldiers about this sort of thing. About watching their comrades die, whispering how they had finally reached peace, thanks to a quiet voice. He had assumed it was an image conjured by their minds, to bring them comfort in their last moments. Now it was his turn. He knew it was a real thing now, his brain trying to soothe him as he suffocated in his own blood.
A pair of hands cupped his face, thumbs brushing away tears. "It's okay, it'll be over soon."

That simply wouldn't work out well, he could see it now, he tells them he's an Avian one second, and then the next he's carted away to be experimented on or be completely outcasted. The thought of being alone again terrifies him, he will hide this secret at all costs, no matter what happens, even if his feelings get in the way.

Summary
Most of the books in the library were about keeping peace, scary stories of what's beyond the river, and the common religion of the area, but Scar knew of the better books that lay near the back corners of the bookshelves, hidden in the shadows.
They told stories of mystical creatures, and Scar's favorite one of all had to be about the fae.
There were not a lot of books on fae, and Scar found himself rereading them often.
The beautiful, cunning and honest creatures took up most of his thoughts during the day, and his dreams were filled with only what he could hope the otherside looked like.
And thats what got him into this mess.
(Or: Baby scar finds himself going into the woods to find a faerie ring, and finds a lot more.)

With that, Scott releases Legs and turns on his heel, walking out of the ruined factory. Leaving the metal door open as he disappears into the alley without looking back.

"A peanut butter and jelly sandwich and ants on a log.” Etho says, grabbing the jar of peanut butter and a butter knife, spreading the peanut butter on the inside curve of the celery.
Scar sticks out his tongue, making a face, “Eww, I don’t want to eat bugs like Bdubs.”
“First, your brother does not eat bugs…anymore, and second, they don't actually want Scar, they are raisins.” Etho chuckles.
“Oh.” Scar says.

Scar shakes his head with a fond smile after a moment. Seemingly too happy and excited to keep up his fake disgruntlement, eagerly holding up the basket as an excited grin grows on his face. Gesturing to it as if Grian wasn’t already looking at it and waiting for his explanation.
“We are going on a picnic!” Scar announces with a dramatic sweep of his hand that nearly gets Grian smacked by the basket swaying precariously in his grip. Grian just leans back far enough to dodge, more than used to Scar’s clumsiness by now. The human doesn’t even notice and Grian gives a fond huff.
Grian has run across a human trespassing in his woods, it's his favorite human to mess with even. But how will he mess with Scar this time? So many options to pick from!
