There was a lot that could be said about the situation that had started to form between Clark and Lex and how Lex chose to treat Clark ever since the accident. It was nice, and it made Clark's view of Lex become altered, or at least that's what most seemed to claim. Lex was nice. He was his friend. It was late when Clark arrived home. Lex had taken to some kind of winter event. It has been fun, but it had ended a lot later than when Clark had assumed it would. He shouldn't have been shocked that his parents weren't thrilled about how late it was, but as he walked in, it became clear that time wasn't the main issue that his parents had with the situation. Clark was more than a little confused about the looks he received, and he didn't hesitate to address the looks. He knew that he was in for a lecture.
“I know I'm late, but traffic was bad. I think we ended up having to stop at least three times to assist some people who were stuck in the snow. Lex has some chains in the back of his car, so it wasn't hard.” Clark explained as he pulled off his boots, not missing how the looks his parents carried continued to remain. “Is there an issue—”
“Whose coat is that?” Jonathan interrupted before his son could finish his sentence, not bothering to hide his overall interest in the item. “You didn't leave this house with it.”
Clark had to admit he didn't think that the coat would be such an issue, but it was clear it mattered to his parents. Lex had assumed he was cold due to how red his face was due to the close contact. He had taken off his own coat and wrapped it around him. It was warm, and it was expensive. It looked expensive, and while Clark had insisted that he didn't need it, Lex wouldn't listen. Lex went without a coat in the cold weather for hours. He knew he would end up sick because of it, but the man wouldn't listen to him.
“Lex lent me his coat. He assumed I was cold. I told him that I didn't need it, but he wouldn't listen to me.” Clark explained as he took the coat off, doing his best not to let on how the whole ordeal had made him feel. “I, uh... I had a nice time with him.”
“It looks expensive.” Martha noted with an overall sense of disapproval, not bothering to hide her concern when it came to the situation. “Does he at least have another to wear before you return it?”
“I don't know.” Clark answered as he recalled how his friend had tried to hide the fact he was cold after he handed over his coat, not missing the look he realized over this response. “You know how Lex can be.”
Clark could tell that his parents didn't approve of the actions he had taken, but at that moment he didn't care. He couldn't control Lex's actions. He sometimes wished he could, but he couldn't. He knew he should check on him. He needed to know that he arrived home in one piece.
“I'll return the coat as soon as I can.” Clark assured as he tried to dismiss the whole situation, heading up to his room as he made one last statement. “I need to make a call.. check on him..”
