Work Text:
The faint whisper of rainfall woke Eddie, comfort settling over him like a blanket. LA hadn’t experienced gentle rainfall in months; it was always either sudden storms or weeks of dry heat. He kept his eyes closed as he pushed his face further into his pillow, a smile tugging at his lips. It was the perfect day for rain– Christopher was at a sleepover and Eddie had the day off work, so he could lay in bed for as long as he wanted.
Just as he was beginning to drift back off, another sound filtered in through his bedroom walls– this time inside. Eddie rolled over slowly, his eyes finally opening as if he would be able to see through his door into the house beyond. He narrowed his eyes, focusing on his hearing as well as he could past the haze of sleep that still dragged at him. It sounded like someone was in his kitchen, like someone was… making something?
Of course.
Sighing softly, Eddie forced himself upright and over to the door, his feet dragging against the floor. He didn’t bother stopping to get dressed, knowing damn well his surprise visitor wouldn’t mind his boxer-clad state.
Sure enough, as he came around the corner to the kitchen Eddie spotted the invader– Buck.
“What are you doing here, Buck?” he asked softly, a smile coming to his lips unprompted at the way the man jumped in shock.
Buck spun around, his face sheepish as he clutched a coffee mug in his hands.
“I wanted to surprise you! The weather is perfect– I know how you like rain– so I figured I could come by and bring you breakfast in bed and maybe… I don’t know, hang out.”
Snorting, Eddie came further into the room and tugged Buck closer by the waistband of the man’s sweats. “That’s real sweet of you, darling, but maybe text me next time? I was a little worried when I heard someone in the house.”
“Right,” Buck said, his face scrunching up, “I’ll do that.” The other man set the coffee mug on the counter beside them, his hands coming to rest on Eddie’s hips. His fingers tug into the skin there, a shiver running up Eddie’s spine at the feeling.
They hadn’t been together long, only a few weeks. Not long enough that Eddie would have expected Buck to be so comfortable surprising him with coffee and presumably breakfast on a random morning. At the same time, though, it made perfect sense. They had been best friends for years, and this wasn’t even necessarily strange for them. The only difference between this morning and others was the way Buck was tipping towards him, as if the man was being dragged helplessly towards him.
“The coffee ready?” Eddie asked softly, some part of him not wanting to speak louder and risk breaking the relative peace of the moment.
“Yeah,” Buck murmured, his eyes never straying from Eddie’s face. “I was gonna make pancakes–”
“Just come to bed,” Eddie cut in, tugging once more at Buck’s sweatpants. “I was going to sleep in this morning, anyway. I could use a better pillow.”
Buck flushed pleasantly at that, a soft smile gracing his lips. “That– yeah. That sounds good.”
There was something honeysweet about Buck’s pleased blush. Something that had Eddie’s heart racing, his thoughts moving through syrup as he drifted closer to his boyfriend. He pressed his lips to Buck’s gently, delighting in the soft puff of breath the other man let out against him. Kissing Buck had quickly become one of Eddie’s favorite pastimes, largely because of how different it was every time.
They kissed as often as they could, both of them always wanting to be pressed together in any way possible. Sometimes the kisses were harsh and wanting, leading towards the thing they were both desperate for, but sometimes they were just like this one– soft and loving and innocent. Each of them different.
Buck’s lips were warm and a bit chapped against his, his boyfriend’s movements as soft and calming as the rain pattering against the roof. Finally pulling back, Eddie laced his fingers through Buck’s and began tugging the man towards his bedroom, coffee long forgotten on the counter. That honeysweet feeling followed them to the other room, the warmth of the moment sticking with them as they settled beneath the thin sheet on Eddie’s bed.
“You know I love you, right?” Eddie asked in a whisper, his heart fluttering nervously. They hadn’t quite gotten to saying that yet, though it was implied in every moment they spent together, in the tender way Eddie called Buck darling, in the way Buck appeared beside him every time Eddie questioned himself, in– everything.
“Only if you know I love you too,” Buck murmured easily, his lips brushing against the nape of Eddie’s neck where he had settled behind him. A peaceful smile graced Eddie’s face as he interlaced his fingers with Buck’s, their arms pressed together across his waist.
“I know you do.”
And it was true.
