My Little Golden Lie

Summary:

Ronīn.

Wanderers with no master. Hunters with no meaning…always in the shadow of someone higher.

That was the role of Haru and his fellow members of their group RON1N, established in Japan as a cover up for their true identities: Demon Hunters. It helps that even though they’re not as popular and well known as other groups, it keeps their job as Hunters easier to handle on their schedule. But secrets, the rise of Huntr/x and a new group called the Saja Boys just made it a whole lot harder.

From the lies to the pain they’ve suffered through, RON1N are tired and want this over with. But with no solid proof or evidence that turning the Honmoon gold will solve all demonic problems, just what IS their purpose and point in being Demon Hunters?

Chapter 1: Prologue

Chapter Text

Beads of sweat trailed down his neck, his spine shivering at the feel as his throat rattled out his breathing. He gripped his katana tightly to yank it out from the brick, looking around for any more adversaries.

“Haru!” His eyes trailed up the wall to the rooftop where Ren was waving down. “It’s clear up here and the guys got the rest! Should we regroup back home?”

He nodded, pulling his weapon out before making it disappear, the glittering threads of the (Honmoon) sparkling blue.

Was all that worth this pain though? he thought to himself, regretting clearing his burning throat. He had to find a replacement soon or else they would be down one for their team. I can push however hard I need to to ensure the people’s safety.

He walked out of the alleyway, making sure his mask and hood were still on as he trudged through the puddles from the previous hour’s downpour.

“Kya! Have you seen the new Huntr/x merch??” A passing by girl cried into her phone, showing her friends. “I’m totally getting it!”

“Ohmistars—they just released a single!!!”

He glanced back as he noticed all five of them glued to their screens as they started watching the MV. One of the giant billboards above him flickered, shining brightly to reveal the astounding cover of said single.

Golden? He scoffed. “Shinjirarenai. They really think that’s going to work?” He murmured under his breath, coughing. All Hunters know that it’s a myth. No one really knows if turning it golden will actually seal those blasted demons from here forever. We’ve just been brainwashed to think that it does. But if it has turned golden before to permanently keep the demons away…then it’s a lie that it does.

He shrugged his jacket up more, fixing the collar as his fingers trailed down his throat. A lie that I’ve been cursed with.
