Giving diamonds to Grian blew up in her face. Now Etho turned it into this thing of Grian being Gem’s favourite. Gem tried to diffuse the situation, but the damage was already done. Gem knew it wasn’t a big deal, but the thought of Pearl thinking she wasn’t her first choice made her stomach sink.
‘Pearl, I love you!’ Gem blurted out. She panicked, had she made it weird? It was fine to tell your friend you love them, right?
‘And. You- it- you know, the diamond armour matches your eyes, and you already look great it in!’ She started fidgeting with her hair to calm herself down. Her breathing was still irregular, she felt like the room was spinning around her. Pearl mumbled something but Gem didn’t catch it, to caught up in her own head. Pearl probably thought she was her second choice and now she overcompensated by saying she loved her…
Grian and Etho didn’t seem to notice what was going on, but Pearl on the other hand grabbed Gems hand. Her gaze was calming, as she told Gem: 'You know, that- that compliment is worth more than diamonds to me, I love it, I love you.'
