Summary
At seven years old, Amity loses her best and only friend. She is told she is to dye her hair green, no ifs, ands, or buts. Her siblings are powerless to convince their mother to change her mind. Her aloof father doesn’t even try.
At ten years old, Amity arrives to the conclusion that life and its myriad cruelties can’t hurt her so long as she meets it with cold-blooded apathy.
