It starts like this: Tim had had the brilliant (if not slightly sleep-deprivation inspired) idea to invest in team bonding strategies. Of course, his team were already incredibly close ( suck it, Dick ) and didn't really need team bonding, but it was decided after very little debate that the excuse of bonding activities made it all the easier to get out of unwanted activities (i.e. lectures, training, homework, and family bonding). And maybe there was something to be said about the way it took their team a total of two and a half seconds before wholly agreeing to the bit, but whatever . As far as Tim was concerned, the excuse got him out of shit that would otherwise be unavoidable (see: unwanted activities). And so what if he decided to lean into it, the phones designed by Lucius Fox specifically to withstand an obscene amount of abuse was a reflection of his investment in the team. Because that's what this is at the end of the day, an investment , the chance to prove to everyone that he can stand on his own two feet without Dick or Bruce or Alfred or any number of others. So no, actually, Tim did not buy his superhero colleagues cellphones because he was lonely and wanted to have a way to reach out to them, don't be ridiculous.
