Chapter 1: Prologue: 66 MYA
Chapter Text
66 Million Years Ago, New Mexico
A chilling wind blew in from the gaping maw of the cavern, churning up the stale air that lay still and dormant within the dimly lit reaches of its craggy interior. It was silent within the cave aside from the ambient noises of water dripping somewhere deep within the dark depths, only occasionally drowned out by the sudden drafts that blew in from outside. However, something finally broke the silence as the faint sounds of tiny waddling footsteps could be heard echoing throughout the cave, reverberating loudly as a small creature clambered through the dark crevasses. Its dark hide blended in with the jagged stone walls that surrounded it. Several sharp protrusions on its back almost resembling that of stalagmites.
The protrusions, sharp dorsal fins designed to be armor. Against its own kind, and monsters that threatened its life. They were beginning to show hits of a greyish- white upon them.
Its little claws scraped the ground as it made its way up through the cave, squeezing through tight spaces and over steep ledges as it made its way towards the mouth of the cavern.
The small animal panted heavily as it struggled to pull itself over a ledge and onto the flat rocky floor. The breeze was much stronger now, almost creating a howling noise as it blew in from outside. Its eyes adjusted slowly to the light as it crept towards the entrance. As it came closer, the cave seemed to become a distant memory. Long vines hung down in the mouth of the cavern like the drapes of a window as they swayed in the chilling wind that blew through them. The creature cautiously approached the vines, slowly reaching out towards them with one of its stout limbs to part the fibrous curtain. As it stepped through the vines, the world seemed to become a whole lot larger. The creature found itself surrounded by a lush sea of green. Its eyes widened, taking it all in as it was bombarded by all kinds of new senses.
The chattering of leaves among the canopy, the chorus of insects, birds, and all sorts of other wildlife periodically echoing from somewhere within the green depths of the forest beyond. The stale cavern air was replaced by a heavy humid smell of plants and water that was brought forth by the strong winds from the North East. The little infant was nearly overwhelmed by all the new senses.
The animal's gaze eventually turned to the sky, its pupils dilating as it looked upon the grey overcast that loomed over the forest. Cold droplets of water dotted the creature's face as it looked on towards the skies over the horizon. A sudden deep rumbling noise caused the scaled critter to yelp in surprise, as the distant roar of thunder shook the forest. Silencing the animals that bustled beneath its green veil. The creature took a step back towards the cave, curling its tail closer to its body in anxiety as it watched dark clouds creep over the horizon. The black storm clouds flickered with distant flashes of bright yellow, followed by another rolling boom that carried across the skies.
The whole forest seemed to hang with a feeling of unease, flocks of winged reptiles- Pterosaurs, flying in the opposite direction to evade the incoming storm that slithered through the overcast above. Pelting the primordial forest with a light shower. A prelude of the storm that was on the horizon, and swiftly approaching.
A movement from within the cavern would tear the creature's attention away from the brewing storm, causing it to flinch away from the entrance. It initially responded with a hiss of surprise, but the aggression from the tiny creature would quickly subside. Parting the vines was a much larger creature, its rocky hide was paler in color, highlighted by green moss growing between its scales and armor plating. The gargantuan animal's dorsal plates scraped along the roof of the cavern as it pulled itself through the vines to join the small animal outside.
It was mother. Her amber colored eyes settled upon the infant that stood at the mouth of the den, she lovingly gazed at the stout beast before lowering her head to press the end of her snout against the juvenile's head. Nuzzling it with deep parental love.
The young reptile happily reciprocated its mother's affection, growling softly as he greeted her. After greeting her son. The lone mother raised her head slowly to glare at the horizon. Their father had not yet come back. The infant watched as his mother's body language slowly shifted. Her posture becoming more rigid and agitated as she lashed her tail side to side. Flattening trees and rock beneath it. Letting out a low guttural rumble as the incoming storm clouds continued to claw their way across the sky. She watched as the clouds were once again lit up, as another thunderous roar echoed across the landscape. The sound was an otherworldly scream.
One that made even the mightiest of gods tremble before it.
Though this time it wasn't the storm who cause the forest to quiver in fear. The distant booming vocalization shook the very ground beneath their feet, but mother's gaze did not waver as her eyes remained fixed on the horizon. The infant at her feet whimpered as he too gazed solemnly at the swirling clouds, though instead of reassurance. He was met with a gentle shove from his mother's long and powerful tail. The child did not resist. Allowing himself to be gently moved backwards beyond the vines and into the cave once more.
He watched as her tail slipped through the fibrous curtains and vanishing from view, leaving him in darkness. He could feel the ground shake as his mother's titanic footsteps grew further and further away, parting the forest as she made her way towards the storm in a rush. The infant watched as the jagged, and almost maple-leaf shaped dorsal fins on his mother's back began to glow a bright magenta color before unleashing an earth shattering roar of her own.
Godzilla watched as his mother trudged towards the hurricane that descended upon their home. Slowly disappearing beneath the waves. Little did the infant know that he was unknowingly lay his eyes upon her for the final time. As he cowered in the safety of the cave once again.
Curled up in the safety from the powerful hurricane that came screeching towards their home. Every minute the story rose in strength, as a simple rain and breeze quickly turned into a powerful downpour and violent gusts of wind. Cold enough to make him shiver within the cave, as trees were bound to blow over from the intensity. Clenching his eyes shut. Praying for the safety of both his mother and father, even though they never returned that day.
Chapter 2: On The Dotted Line
Chapter Text
MegaTokyo, Japan, 2095
Rays of light shone through the space between the drawn curtains, morning sunlight danced along the clean wooden floorboards in the early hours of the day. Despite the door being shut, the TV could be heard through the thin apartment walls as it noisily played whatever channel it was currently set to. The alarm on the desk sat idle, the clock flashed on and off as it displayed the time, signifying that the alarm had already gone off a while ago. Trace let out a slight groan as he rolled over in his bed, the white sheets rustling noisily as he tossed over to one side. He peered at the clock through blurry eyes, waiting a few moments for them to adjust so that he could see what time it was. 10:03.
He'd overslept by two hours. He lay there in bed for a few moments as he continued to glare at the clock as it flashed on and off in an almost mocking demeanour. Trace was almost tempted to grab the sheets and pull them over his head, but he knew if he waited any longer that he wouldn't have enough time to get ready and leave. With a rather begrudging sigh, he pushed the sheets aside and sat up in his bed, kicking his feet out to the side before immediately standing and beginning to make his way over towards the door. Trace tiredly staggered out into the bright living space, his eyes adjusting to the sudden exposure to the light. He walked over to the couch and searched for the remote in order to turn the TV down, but as he found the remote, something on the TV caught his attention. The jingle of the Global News channel played, turning over to their news anchors as they stood before the desolate ruins of a city.
"Hello! My name is Dawn Balavonah and we're reporting live from the outskirts of what was formerly known as the city of Boston, here in Massachusetts. We are currently standing outside of the quarantine zone that was set in place almost 74 years ago when a massive Kaiju attack devastated the city back in 2021. The event has since been dubbed different names, the Epicenter Event, the Boston throwdown. But we are here today to report on the official statement made by the IKDC this morning in regards to the Epicenter quarantine zone and their plans moving forward."
The broadcast quickly flicked over to a public interview attended by the CEO of the Internation Kaiju Defence Corps, Peter Calebs.
"In the past 74 years, we as a company, and as a species, have made tremendous advancements in the field of science and technology. The IKDC will continue to do what we have been doing for the past several decades as we find new solutions to our Kaiju problems in pursuit of a brighter future for all of human kind. As a result of our tremendous project, we have decided to begin the long awaited cleanup operation in the Boston Quarantine area, seeing that the radiation levels have dropped to safer levels. We thank everyone for supporting us in our endeavors over the years, as it has funded many of our biggest and most ambitious projects over the years, and we hope to continue protecting the world for as long as you let us. Thank you." The TV suddenly turned off, as Trace stood holding the remote towards the wall mounted screen, his reflection faintly visible in the still black screen.
He tossed the remote back down onto the couch before turning to walk towards the front door of his apartment room. His distaste for the company was evident in his body language as he stalked towards the door, aggressively pulling his coat off of the hanger. Once he was ready, he swiftly stepped outside of the apartment and firmly shut the door behind him, making sure to lock it before he gingerly made his way down the hall towards the stairs.
Trace stepped out into the busy streets of MegaTokyo and began walking down the sidewalk, moving away from the apartment building where he had taken up residency. A warm spring breeze blew through the city, drowned out by the bustling noise of cars and vehicles moving along the streets. It was a busy day today as many people went about living their daily lives as though nothing was wrong with the world. Trace continued to walk, his gaze turning to look over at the sparkling Tokyo Bay. Its pristine waters twinkled in the rising sun, waves crashing against the distant shore. But beyond that loomed a towering wall of metal and concrete. The huge wall obscured the horizon as the water crashed against the dull stained walls.
It stood well over three hundred feet tall and spanned the entire length of the bay, though the wall went much further then that as it stretched beyond his view. Trace watched as massive steel turrets swiveled slowly in place on top of the wall, a pair of them stationed roughly fifty to seventy five feet from each other. He saw as their metal exterior reflected the sun's rays as it rotated, the insignia on its side becoming barely visible. A stylized 'V' could be seen across the Bay, representing the company that had manufactured it.
The Prime Minister of Japan planned to have the wall stretch along Japan's entire coast, effectively sealing the entire country within a little fish bowl... alas, the wall had not completed its construction yet, as it only ran for about 60 miles. Japan was arguably one of the most paranoid countries when it came to Kaiju attacks.
As the Prime Minister had spent well over a hundred million dolars investing in the Anti-Kaiju wall. Which was supposedly built using top of the line technology from one of the world's leading engineering and cybernetics companies. Regardless, the wall had proven effective at discouraging Kaiju attacks, with 5 of the monsters being deterred in the last eighy months. But Trace felt that Japan was letting its guard down. Becoming too reliant on the wall to provide protection.
After all, if a Kaiju truly wanted to get inside to raze the city, it was unlikely that the pitiful multi-billion dollar barricade was gonna stop it. That's what happened with South Africa a few weeks ago. The Kaiju named Megalon tore through the wall in less then an hour. At least before the Kaiju disappeared back into the wilderness.
Soon, the wall faded from view and from memory, as Trace walked down a flight of stairs and into a subway station. The subterranean transport station was generally the quickest way to travel around Japan if you lacked a vehicle, with public transportation having advanced so much, the railway was traded for a magnetic suspension system that was capable of moving the cars of the train around much faster and smoother than what would otherwise be possible. The entire network was completely underground and reinforced with tremor resistant supports as a means of preventing passages from collapsing during a possible Kaiju attack. Of course, Trace didn't exactly question how it all worked. He briskly hopped onto the train as it prepared to depart, taking a seat next to the door as people began to flood in.
It didn't take long to reach his stop, as the deep hum of the magnetic load bearing rings around the car brought it to a gradual halt before opening its doors and letting the passengers out. The station Trace had arrived in was directly built into the headquarters of the IKDC, letting workers make a swift and simple commute to work. He placed his hands in his pant pockets as he walked up to the entrance gate. The guard at the gate looked at Trace with an air of suspicion, quickly looking him up and down before stopping him.
"May I see your clearance badge, sir?" The guard asked as he closed the gate to prevent Trace from simply walking through. Trace grumbled to himself before pulling out a sheet of paper from his pocket, as well as a lanyard with a clearance badge dangling from it... though it was clearly not his own.
"Leroy Cross sent for me, my girlfriend was one of his pilots." Trace stated, clearly showing the printed form and the badge that belonged to his girlfriend. The guard hesitated for a moment as he peered at both the paper and the badge, though when he tried to reach for it, Trace flinched away.
The guard reached for his radio and turned slightly away as he spoke into it... though after a few moments he would turn to look at Trace again.
"Alright, you can go through." The guard finally stated, opening the gate for Trace and allowing him to walk through and into the building.
Trace made his way up a large flight of stairs, which eventually lead him into the main lobby of the building. The place was utterly huge and truly a spectacle amongst architecture. Brilliant silver arches curved upwards towards the ceiling, each decorated with pulsing blue lights that gave it a more futuristic type of feel. Much of the place was shades of white, grey and black in color and theme, with much of the lights being either white or a deep blue color. It gave a very sterile feeling to the place, as even the floors were spotless from any dirt or dust.
Odd sculptures and art installations were placed in abundance, as well as various displays for public visitors to view and marvel at. Trace, however, had little interest in sticking around to look at fancy lava lamps and liquid metal contraptions. He made his way immediately to the receptionist desk at the center of the building, pulling out the same paper and clearance badge that he had shown the previous guard.
"I was personally requested by Leroy Cross to come and meet with him today. Do you know if he's here?" Trace asked the lady at the desk. She gave a welcoming grin as he approached, leaning forward slightly to look at the items Trace was holding before she turned to look at the computer upon the desk. She typed on the keyboard for a few moments before turning back to Trace.
"Yes, he is here today. I believe Mr. Cross is in his office right now, he said you could go up to meet him there." She replied, nodding over at the elevator tucked around the corner. Trace grinned back, nodding at her in thanks before taking off towards the elevator and making his way up to the floor where Leroy's office was.
Ding! The elevator notified Trace that he had arrived at his requested floor, the glass door sliding open and letting him out into another sterile white hallway. He turned and strode down towards the end of the hall, where he found a large double door with a keypad next to it. On the wall next to the door was a silver plaque, with the name Colonel Cross's Office. Trace was about to reach over to knock on the door, however it opened before his knuckle could touch the heavy metal doors. They let out a hiss as they slid out of the way, letting Trace into the office.
"Welcome, Mr. Novachez. Take a seat 'son." Leroy greeted him, raising his hand to gesture at the chair in front of his desk. His southern accent was quite noticeable, especially in the way he spoke. Leroy was a heavily built man for his age, always wearing a blue or grey muscle shirt with his military dog tag dangling around his neck on full display. His hair was short and well kept with significant greying along the sides whereas it was still somewhat darker on top. He was reclined in his chair with his boots up on the desk, but once Trace entered the room he had adjusted his posture to appear more formal.
Cross might be the one who calls the shots, but he does show respect to other regardless of their rank or status in life. And at this moment, Trace deserved the most respect. As well as appreciation for even showing up. As Trace sat down in the chair, Leroy began to speak.
"Y'know, I figured you wouldn't end up comin'. Colour me surprised when I get a call from security that you've shown up at my front door. 'Course its reasonable to expect you not to show up considerin' your track record..." Cross stated, standing up out of his chair and turning to look out the large window that overlooked the bay area to his back. "You're a hard man to get a hold of it seems. You never seem to be home, and when you are, you're always found blackout drunk on the couch." He remarked as he started to pace along the length of the window. Trace sat there and listened, but he was getting tired of the small talk. As a result, Trace decided to speak out of turn in order to cut to the chase.
"Cross, why did you want to see me. I didn't come here for you to chew me out for all of my bad habits." He hissed, fidgeting in his chair slightly and causing it to make a high pitched squeaking noise.
Leroy released a drawn out sigh, turning towards Trace as he went to retire back into his chair once again. "I need a pilot. You're the only other person with adequate experience on such short notice. It's not easy or cheap to train new cadets, and even so, many of them are being assigned to other projects. So I would like you to come back and work for us again under my supervision." He stated, resting his elbows upon the armrests of his chair as he reclined slightly into his chair.
"You can't be serious. Do you have any idea what you're asking of me?" Trace replied, his voice struggling to maintain a calm tone, cracking slightly as a testament to his outrage. Leroy's expression was unchanged as he clasped his hands together.
"I know exactly what I'm asking of you... I understand it's not easy, but you're the best option we have at the moment." Leroy remarked, shifting slightly as he knew it wouldn't be easy to bring Trace on board.
"With all due respect sir, unless you can raise the dead, I want fuck all to do with this company. And I especially want nothing to do with that machine. Hell, if I could tear it apart and melt each and every part of it into slag, I would without hesitation." Trace snapped, standing up in his chair as he spoke. His voice cracking with anger, he made it incredibly clear that he did not want any part in this.
But Leroy wouldn't let it go.
"Why don't you come take a walk with me. I wanna show you everything I've helped build in this company since you walked out, and after we're done, if you still want no part in this, I'll let you go. Sound fair?" Cross looked at Trace, standing up to level with him before gesturing towards the door. Trace looked in the direction that the Colonel gestured towards before turning his gaze back to the older man. He thought about it for a few minutes, his eyes wavering for a moment before Trace decided to relinquish his anger and hear him out just this once.
Colonel Cross would end up leading Trace down towards the mech hanger within the headquarters. The entire facility was a sturdily built subterranean area in which giant machines were kept... these machines in question were designed to fight monsters. The place was utterly huge, the ceiling towered far above their heads as people busily worked throughout the bay. It was much more industrial here, no white marble and shiny silver steel, instead the place dull and grey. Orange lights illuminated giant machines as they stood idly within their designated hanger bays while humans scuttled across them like ants, diligently working on them. Trace watched as they walked passed one of the machines, sparks bouncing off of it as people worked on its exterior. It appeared to be humanoid in nature with a bright red, white and yellow colour scheme.
"That there is Jet Jaguar. A Generation one Mech, one of the first of its kind. Originally it was much smaller, but we've decided to upscale it in preparation to test an experimental advanced A.I. system that can independently pilot the machine on its own." Leroy stated. He paused for a moment, glancing back at Trace before continuing. "Mind you its experimental, so don't think you're being put out of the job so easily."
The pair continued walking, passing by another hanger bay. Within it stood an almost tank-like machine that was silver and blue in colour. On the ends of each of its arms were drill-like weapons that seemed to be capable of separating into a concealed ranged weapon. The pair watched as people began to slowly split the drill covers to work on the interior of the weapon.
"They call that one the Mobile Operations Godzilla Universal Expert Robot Aero-type. But I just call it MOGUERA for short. Its built to take quite the beating, and has the weapons to put down even some of the most well armored Kaiju. Currently we're experimenting with giving it thrusters powerful enough to get it off the ground for easier deployment over long distances." The Colonel greeted some workers as they passed by, nodding at them before continuing onwards past the machine.
Trace said very little during this time, simply taking it all in. He was somewhat impressed with the machines they've made. But his anger still lingered in the back of his mind.
In the past, there were many more mechs then the very few that remained. But most of those were reduced to scrap metal by Kaiju. A few months ago one of the last ones; Steel. A humanoid Mech built for firepower and armor got torn apart by the Ankylosaur-like Kaiju named Anguirus in Mexico. The mech barely stood a chance.
No wonder the IDKC was hoping to get a stable foothold on defending the east. The west had practically fallen by this point. The only strongholds left were Rio De Janiro, Las Vegas, and New York City. Even then, those were slowly becoming inhospitable and like the other cities in the west. San Francisco had fallen just a few years ago.
It was a losing battle now. Not to mention they were basically left to fight by themselves. As the serpentine kaiju, Manda, and Mosasaur-like Kaiju, Namaka had basically crippled the last trade route between the America and the rest of the world.
"Finally, here we are." Leroy finally said, coming to a full stop in front of the third hanger bay. Within it stood a towering machine, larger than both of the previous two... and certainly much larger than what Trace remembered it being. It stood at nearly four hundred feet tall, which towered over even that of Godzilla himself. Which was ironic considering the mech was built in his likeness. A wave of hatred rolled over him as he laid eyes on the machine, though it was quickly replaced with curiosity as he noticed something odd.
"What are they putting over top of it?" Trace asked, watching as engineers and workers carefully applied what looked to be a sort of silicon outer layer over top of the mech's armored exterior.
"Well, the Japanese Prime Minister wasn't too keen on our choice to make a mechanical version of Godzilla... so we've had to find ways to bypass that, and so we've re-branded MechaGodzilla from being an Anti-Kaiju weapon, to a machine to be used in order to more closely research Godzilla." Cross replied in a rather unenthused tone. "Our science division was quite overjoyed at this prospect, and so they've wasted no time turning it into a doppelganger capable of fooling even the likes of the King himself." Trace looked up at the mechanical beast, its jagged silver fangs glittering in the dim lighting.
"So you want me to run an undercover research operation for you? Again, with all due respect, I'm not climbing into that thing's cockpit." He said, doubling down on his decision in spite of everything he's seen. Trace promised himself that he would never return to work on MechaGodzilla ever again. Especially after its first deployment. However his attention quickly turned away from Cross and MechaGodzilla when an unfamiliar voice interjected into his conversation.
"MechaGodzilla doesn't have a cockpit. Not anymore." Trace turned around to see a woman standing behind him, looking past Trace up towards the dormant machine. She adjusted her glasses slightly before turning her attention towards Trace and Leroy. "MechaGodzilla has been completely reworked from the ground up, as not only did we scale the mech up, but we've opted to replace the cockpit in favor of controlling it remotely by using VENATOR's satellites to transmit signals and commands to it almost instantaneously, thus not putting the lives of any pilots at risk... including yours." She stated in a very matter-of-fact tone. Leroy walked closer to stand next to Trace, gesturing towards the girl as he introduced her.
"Trace, this is the representative from Venator who's overseeing the manufacturing of these machines, Callista Faro." She nodded, greeting Trace with a very small grin. "I was informed that you would be our leading candidate in regards to piloting the machine." She mentioned, brushing a loose strand of her pale- almost white hair back into place behind her ear. Trace hesitated for a moment having been put on the spot, unsure what to respond with. After a brief moment, he coughed up some words, trying to change the subject.
"So you work for Venator, huh? The uhm... the company that engineers the Anti-Kaiju weaponry?"
"Oh, we make much more than just weapons." She softly responded, gently correcting him before digressing. "I'm sorry for your loss- Nora's sacrifice was incredibly heroic, and you're lucky to have known her. M-my boss sends his regards to you as well, he's familiar with your work in this company." She stammered, trying her best not to step on Trace's toes. Though her attempt appeared to be in vain as Trace physically recoiled upon hearing Nora's name.
"Yeah... it's fine." He did his best to brush it off, quickly stuffing any would-be emotions into a bottle and throwing them somewhere into the back of his brain to hopefully be forgotten about. "My boss, Cyrus Koiva, is the CEO of Venator as I'm sure you know." Callista continued.
"He would be delighted to meet you in person if you would do him the honor. I think he's aware that you may be hesitant to pilot the machine, regardless of its new augmentations... and I think he's hoping to try and change your mind." Cyrus Koiva... one of the most wealthy people in the world. And he wanted to meet Trace personally. Trace couldn't quite fathom the prospect of getting to meet someone like him, and yet here Callista stood.
"Your transportation will be completely covered, all you have to do is show up." She continued after seeing Trace struggle to find a response. It was all happening incredibly fast, but ultimately, Trace figured that this might not be an opportunity to pass up... and I mean hey, when would a free trip to the Moon ever be something to pass up? After pondering it for a moment, his anger from before having subsided, Trace decided to take Cyrus up on his offering.
"Alright... I suppose I could sit down to chat with him." He remarked before glancing over towards Leroy, to whom he wasn't sure whether to give a cold glare or a surprised eyebrow raise.
Callista nodded. She extended her arms away from her chest, holding a holographic tablet in her hands and sliding out a stylus from a socket on its side. She took a step forward, swiftly flicking through the tablet before handing it to Trace.
"Just sign on the dotted line, and I'll make sure everything is taken care of for you."
Chapter 3: Birth Island
Chapter Text
Birth Island, The Monster Island Archipelago, 95 miles off the coast of Indonesia
It was a peaceful morning on the jagged island. Hulking mountains covered the majority of the coastline. Shielding the lush jungles and lakes beyond the natural barriers. The island itself was uninhabited and for good reason. It was apart of the Monster Island Archipelago- otherwise known as the Skull Island Archipelago. The most dangerous place on the planet. Here was where monsters lived.
Skull Island itself was home to king Kong, a powerful primate that defended his home ferociously. The other islands were home to all sorts of other monsters. But Birth Island? Arguably the most dangerous of them all. All because of who lived there.
Godzilla. The king of the monsters. Humanity's number one on their Kaiju hitlist. Ever since 2021 he's been a massive thorn in humanity's side. At first humanity tried to kill him. But they learnt swiftly that they couldn't. He leveled Pearl Harbor and Honolulu in 2030, then in 2045 he flattened most of England in little under a week. Then came operation Long March in 2081, an attempt to kill Godzilla with Mecha Godzilla. But that operation failed when Anguirus and Rodan showed up on the scene and Godzilla destroyed Washington DC. The two still fought one another, and it ended in a draw.
Although most say that Godzilla won that fight.
He cut the damn pentagon up like a birthday cake that day. That operation led to the US military being officially crippled afterwards. Since then, humanity never bothered with trying to kill Godzilla. Instead simply monitoring the monster in case he became active once again. Although for now, the infamous king remained dormant.
His den was somewhere within the interior of the island. No one could really tell where. Especially because of the no-fly zone placed over the island by whatever was left of the United Nations. But the leading speculation was that it was underground in one of the many sinkholes on the island. No one was dumb enough to go onto the island, regardless of Godzilla being around there often or not. But there was still the fact the place was highly radioactive.
Although for the moment, Godzilla didn't seem to be present at the moment. But on the untouched pristine beaches of the island- one of the very few. Waddled a small monster. It stood like an old reconstruction of a theropod dinosaur, powerful tail dragging along the ground. Small ridges along its back with large eyes. Despite being small, the little beast was still the size of a four story building. The young monster was a deep blue in color, with hints of black all over its body, and a white underbelly. Perfect for camouflaging both in the depths of the ocean, and the darkness of caves and night.
The small Kaiju looked around, sniffing the air and approaching the edge of the near crystal blue water. Crabs beneath it scattered away as the young monster leaned down to sniff them. The little beast watched in pure interest as the crabs scrambled away out of pure terror of the little Kaiju. This was Godzilla Junior, or just Junior for short.
Although, from deeper in the island, heavy footfalls were heard approaching the young monster. Who turned around to look at the approaching beast. Which was none other then his father; Godzilla Sr. He was massive, nearly four hundred feet tall easily. With a bulky, almost crocodilian-like snout. With powerful jaw muscles and a mouth filled with teeth designed to tear through flesh and armor like butter. He possessed a pair of fangs, specialized purely to puncture flesh and deliver killing blows.
His head was attached to a muscular neck, a small row of spikes jutting out from it, and gills on either side of his neck. Allowing him to breathe underwater.
The rest of his body was powerful and muscular. With two powerful arms that ended with three fingered claws hands with a thumb. His body was covered in osteoderms and scars from countless centuries of fighting. But none of them were human in origin. His back was covered in three rows of jagged, white dorsal fins. Shaped like a maple leaf. His body was supported by two powerful legs, which were like that of a Tyrannosaurus or a birds. But more muscular and almost like a tree trunk.
He had a powerful tail, one twice as long as his body length. It looks almost crocodilian, but looked more like a tail fluke.
Godzilla's body was a deep black, almost like charcoal or the night sky. But there were hints of greys and deep blues across his body.
Junior let out a soft squeaking noise, happy to see his father. Who lowered his head down to look his son in the face. Junior's soft blue eyes meeting his fathers' own bright orange- almost yellow. He nuzzled his head against his son out of affection. His kind typically weren't known for being very affectionate with their children, at least the fathers weren't.
But Godzilla was different. Junior let out a soft high pitched rumble sound. Although, Godzilla moved his son away from the pristine water of the coast. There was danger in the water, especially with the Japanese navy holding his home under lockdown. Ready to fire in case he became aggressive. But Godzilla didn't want his son to be discovered by the humans. He didn't want to give the little insects a reason to launch an expedition on his island.
Godzilla had been passive to the humans in the recent few years. But he wouldn't hesitate in levelling their fleet again if things came down to it.
While Junior was upset his father pulled him away from the water, he listened regardless. After all, his father knew what was best when it came to him. Yet still, Junior wanted to go run and play in the water. He gave one last longing look to the gentle waves of his home. At least until his father motioned for Junior to get going again. Junior scampered along, using his arms to help him move as Godzilla led him back to their den.
But, Godzilla seemed to pause in his movements. Turning around to look back towards the ocean. His nostrils flaring as Godzilla let out a low rumbling growl at the ocean. Junior stopped too. Looking back at his father out of confusion. What could be troubling him? Junior let out a high pitched screech to his father, and Godzilla looked back at his son. Before motioning with his head for Junior to keep going. While Godzilla turned back towards the beach. Going back towards it.
Junior however, just complied with his father's wishes and continued going back to the den. Scampering along while father dealt with whatever was coming to their home.
Godzilla meanwhile, stepped back towards the beach front. Pausing in his walk once he got there. His eyes prowling the horizon, as if searching for some kind of threat. Either towards him or his son. It surely wasn't the warships. Not even they would be foolish enough to test Godzilla's might. Especially when it came to his home. No, it wasn't them. He could sense the threat now. The king's tail lashed on the beach behind him. Moving tons upon tons of sand with the motion of it. Godzilla let out one of his iconic thunderous roars.
SKREEEEEEEEEEEEEOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK!
A warning and a challenge to the trespasser of what was to come shall they proceed closer to his home. Finally, Godzilla got his answer of who it was. As the sea before him erupted as a hulking form breached forward into the shallows. Spraying water everywhere as the Kaiju within the water revealed itself.
Bright red and yellow scales met Godzilla, with a mighty sail upon its back, and frills on its neck and face. Titanosaurus, the king of the seas. The Kaiju resembled an ancient Spinosaurus in terms of appearance. Who stood up onto his hind legs and let out a shrill snarl. Standing up fully and using his tail to support himself as he tried to make himself look bigger. Albiet with limited success.
As the Kaiju let out an unholy screech from his maw in challenge to Godzilla. Who in response lifted his tail up, before slamming it down on either side of his body. Both Kaiju shared a deep hatred for one another- having shared many battles between them. Godzilla let out a sharp snarl from his maw, as he pulled his scaled lips back into a snarl. As blue smoke began to billow out from Godzilla's nostrils as a blue glow began to travel up his spine. Starting from the base of his tail and slowly climbing up.
Neither one of them intended on giving up.
Titanosaurus wasted no time in attacking, lunging forward at the king. Swinging one of his hands forward. Only for Godzilla to sidestep and Titanosaurus hit nothing but air. While Godzilla's claws lashed out at Titanosaurus' shoulder. Leaving shallow claw marks in his hide that made Titanosaurus screech in pain. He landed a blow on Godzilla's shoulder in return. Before hitting Godzilla in the leg with his powerful tail. Making the Gojira stumble to the side before regaining his balance.
Godzilla however countered with his own tail. Hitting Titanosaurus right in the lower legs. Knocking Titanosaurus down to the ground as Godzilla went to stomp on his head, only for Titanosaurus to avoid the attack. But, the king didn't let him get back up so easily, as Titanosaurus tried to stand up, Godzilla slammed his elbow down on Titanosaurus' head.
Sending him into the dirt once again. As Godzilla's dorsal fins glowed a bright blue, and he looked like he was about to unleash his infamous Atomic Breath. Until Titanosaurus swung his tail with such force that the wind speed actually made Godzilla have to rear his head back. He stopped himself from firing the attack.
Giving Titanosaurus the perfect opportunity to attack once again. As he clamped his jaws down onto Godzilla's shoulder, and hard. Godzilla hissed in pain, before using both his hands to grab onto Titanosaurus' neck, and pry him off. Pushing the Kaiju through the sand and into the water again. Godzilla wasted no time into charging at Titanosaurus. Tackling him into- and through a sea stack that was the size of a skyscraper. While Titanosaurus was more nimble and agile, Godzilla had the raw power.
Which gave him the edge as the two Kaiju landed in a heap. Powerful waves crashing violently into the beach they just used to fight, and onto the rocky cliffs they were now near. Titanosaurus screeched at Godzilla again. Clawing him on the thigh and pushing the Gojira off him. Godzilla didn't skid back far.
Only enough to give Titanosaurus some space. That was until Godzilla grabbed onto Titanosaurus' tail with his hands right as the Kaiju tried to get away and he yanked the red Kaiju back towards him. Before biting down onto Titanosaurus' tail with his powerful jaws. Making the Kaiju let out an unholy screech of agony as Godzilla lifted his head up. Before starting to spin around. His powerful muscles working over time. Because with a mighty toss, Godzilla threw Titanosaurus into yet another sea stack. Sending him crashing through it and the one behind it.
With Titanosaurus landing in the water in a heap. Before getting back up and turning to face Godzilla. Only to get blasted by his Atomic Breath. While Titanosaurus made sure not to get head shot by the breath attack. The blue flame still hit his back and sail. Burning it severely and making Titanosaurus yet again screech in agony.
Titanosaurus looked back at Godzilla. Sneering softly as the Gojira approached him. The king loomed over the defeated monster, and before Titanosaurus could get a cheap shot in. Godzilla firmly planted his foot onto Titanosaurus' shoulder. Pinning him in place as Godzilla lowered his head down next to the now defeated monster's. Letting out a low growl. If Titanosaurus were a fool, he would've tried to get free from Godzilla's grip. But the king had his shoulder in an awkward angle, and one wrong movement would lead to it being broken. The king of the seas knew this.
Godzilla let out a sharp snarl at Titanosaurus. A threat to never come back, and if he did, Godzilla wouldn't let him live to see the next day.
The Gojira let out a short yet very hostile roar right into Titanosaurus' face. Telling him to leave and never return. Titanosaurus let out a low growl in response, acknowledging Godzilla's order. Only then did the king release his grip on the Kaiju. Allowing him to go back out towards the ocean. While Godzilla turned back towards the island and returned home. As he stepped onto the beach. As his son ran forward to see his father. Apparently having not listened all that much.
Junior let out a low warbling cry to his father. Seeing that he was injured. But Godzilla let out a low growl in reply. Telling his son he was fine.
With that, the two Kaiju began to make their way back into the dense wilderness of Birth Island. The crews of the vessels that watched the battle go down were a bit disappointed the action had died down. As that was probably the highlight of their day. But now, they had yet another incident to report to the IKDC.
Fun like this had its issues. Especially now when Kaiju were so close in taking over the world.
Chapter Text
Outpost Atlas, New Zealand
Outpost Atlas, one of the last bastions of the IKDC in the world, centered on New Zealand. It was constructed during the Kaiju War. But most importantly, it was one of the last few outposts solely dedicated to the research and study of the Kaiju. Not just some over glorified fortress. After all, the director of the outpost, Ishiro Serizawa kept it this way. A mega-zoologist and a firm believer in keeping the peace between man and monster. Even if his opinion was less then popular nowadays.
The man fought Calebs' for the ability to keep it peaceful. After all, they were the closest research station to the Monster Island Archipelago.
Besides, they were too far from Brisbane, or Mega-Tokyo. Meaning even if they were a military outpost, shipments of supplies would be difficult to reach them. The closest city to them was Brisbane, and even then. That was a massive distance between the two.
Now at the moment, Ishiro was sitting in his office. Sitting calmly at his desktop. Typing away an email. Most likely to Cross. After all, it had been a while since they got their last shipment of supplies. While he understood that Atlas wasn't the top of the IKDC's concerns. They were their first and only warning system for if Godzilla, or his mate, Gojirin began to become active again.
Ishiro was tempted to just send the email. As it sat idly in front of him, drafted and finished. But he hesitated.
He felt like it'd make him seem pathetic in a way, basically begging the man for another shipment of supplies. Although with how things have been in the past month, it wasn't unlikely Cross didn't simply respond to the emails just because of Megalon and Anguirus. He wouldn't doubt that the man was already preparing a man hunt for the Kaijus.
Ishiro exhaled softly, leaning back in his seat. Pinching the bridge of his nose almost out of frustration.
The world was fresh off the anniversary of Boston. But even then, it was probably just going to be used for more justification to hunt down every single Kaiju. But, Ishiro knew otherwise. Co-existence was still a key with the Kaiju. They appeared purely because of man's arrogance. This was just how nature was fighting back against what had happened to it.
Even then, Ishiro couldn't even blame people for wanting Kaiju gone. Europe, the Americas, most of Africa, all crippled and left helpless against any dangerous Kaiju that still went on warpaths. In the past, humanity could've probably won the war.
But human conflict, and the primary mech production plant in Columbia being destroyed shattered any hope of that happening.
If Ishiro wasn't mistaken, there was barely even eight mechs left. Hardly enough to even defend Asia, let alone to defend the entire world.
Although, the man was stirred from his train of thought when a knock echoed through his office door.
"Come in." Ishiro said. His Japanese accent slipping out. As he pulled his hand from his nose.
Stepping into the room, and immediately standing at attention was Jackson Roberts. His second in command and head of security.
"Sir." Jackson began.
"Please Jackson, don't be formal." Ishiro sighed.
The soldier reluctantly relaxed before speaking again.
"Any update from Cross, sir?" Jackson asked.
"No. Haven't even sent the email yet." Ishiro sighed softly. "What's the point?"
"Pardon?" Jackson asked.
"The point of even sending it? You and I both know he's not going to look at it."
"Maybe it'll finally make Cross take that stick out of his ass and realize we're important."
Ishiro felt a smile crease his tired lips. He could see Jackson smile too underneath his visor. It made the doctor relax a little bit. It was moments like this that gave Ishiro a bit of hope for the future in the human race. Even if by now, almost all the media is questioning if it was even worth trying to hold the Kaiju back.
No one could blame them though, after all. At the start of the war, humanity threw everything aside for the sake of the greater good. But that didn't last long. Especially once Godzilla took center stage again as the top threat. It wasn't long until the Kaiju claimed their place at the top of the world. Despite what many people seemed to think about the matter.
Perhaps with Megalon finally showing his face again after so long in hiding. People would finally realize that maybe the Kaiju weren't ready to go back into the shadows to be forgotten. After all it wasn't like Megalon was a weak Kaiju either. The monster was one of the strongest, and one of the first.
He and Godzilla had a few knockout brawls across the years. They were almost perfect rivals. But Ishiro was glad his pal wasn't still around.
Ishiro sighed afterwards. Running a hand through his greying, but short black hair. He wasn't sure if he was greying because of stress or age. But it was probably both if he was going to be honest.
"Do you think we'll survive?" Jackson finally asked. "Everything that's going on I mean."
"Which part?" Ishiro answered.
"Everything."
"Well, assuming someone doesn't try to start another war? Probably a decent amount of time before the doomsday clock hits midnight? If more hyper aggressive Kaiju keep showing up? Even slimmer." There was no point in sugar coating it. "If both of those happen? We're all dead."
"So either way, we're fucked in the long run." Jackson sighed.
"I'd say so. Unless we can learn to co-exist with the Kaiju rather then treating them as monsters that need to be destroyed." Ishiro replied. "But, there's no point on being cynical about the situation now, lets just focus on dealing with things in the here and now."
"Right." Jackson exhaled.
As Ishiro turned his focus back towards the screen of his desktop and began to type again. Probably adding the final few details about the situation they were facing.
"Is there anything else troubling you, Jackson?" Ishiro finally asked.
He could tell the man was tense underneath his body armor. His shoulder's held tight, and the way his hands seemed to fidget with one of the pockets on his pant leg.
"I dunno... I just get the feeling there's nothing we can do now but hide in a hole and wait for the Kaiju to take back the planet." Jackson sighed. "I mean, look at the world now. We're really all that's left. Do you think it's even worth researching Kaiju like Godzilla? Especially with how things have been?"
"That's true. But perhaps instead of hiding or fighting the hurricane, we should instead move with it's eye to avoid destruction."
"You've really got a way with words, don't you doc?" Jackson chuckled.
"I guess so. But Jackson, you should take a break. Enjoy some time with your men and take some time to relax." Ishiro finally said.
Jackson nodded lightly, before saluting Ishiro in silence. Turning on his heel and walking out of the room. Softly closing the office door behind him. But not before waving goodbye to Ishiro. Who, remained at his desk. Simply pondering if he should send the email. Although he found his gaze shifting over to a small figurine of Godzilla on his desk.
He had bought it in a store in Los Vegas several years ago when he was last there.
The more he looked at it. The more he thought about just hoe much shit Godzilla had put them through. As much as Ishiro wanted to believe that co-existence could still happen. He knew if Godzilla continued the way he was, the less of an actual chance there would be of it happening.
Especially with the blockade around his island. Eventually he'd probably snap and destroy it. Although, he had been informed of the incident that happened with Titanosaurus. Which, gave him an idea.
Typing a bit more into his email, he added the last few details. The important details about what happened. He was certain Cross would probably give more of a shit if Titanosaurus was reported to be active again. Before he finally sent it.
TO: Lerory Cross
FROM: Ishiro Serizawa
SUBJECT: MISSING SUPPLIES AND IMPORTANT MATTERS
"Dear Mr. Cross, I'm certain you've been busy with the recent news of Megalon destroying the coastal wall in South Africa, and the concerns of our last eight mechs. But I am once again asking for you to send the missing supplied that I have requested several times. We are running low on rations, medical supplies, and technological supplies. But, there is also the very important matter of the reappearance of the Kaiju Titanosaurus. Who was spotted on Birth Island engaging Godzilla in a territory dispute.
I'd greatly appreciate if you took these requests seriously, as Titanosaurus could end up posing a major security risk for the last few shipping lines in the Pacific Ocean. I pray that this email manages to reach you, because I will not be held accountable for the possible rampage that can ensue if Titanosaurus is left unchecked especially now."
-Ishiro Serizawa, head of Outpost Atlas.

Chapter 5: Revival
Chapter Text
Blackness. That's all he could feel. The embrace of the empty abyss that enveloped him. But, it felt different then the sweet embrace of death. This abyss was different. It felt cold, metallic. Finally, he began to hear things. Feel things. Finally, his eyes opened. But they felt different. His vision was visibly tinted a slight red hue. There was some form of writing that flashed across his vision. He didn't recognize it at first. But the more he saw. The more he began to understand it.
Yet it crammed its way into his mind. It began to hurt with how much there was. He moved to raise his arms to release whatever was affecting him. But they didn't respond. Did he still not have his arms?
Not long after, memories flooded back into his head. Some kind of city. Then another. Then him. That blue glow before nothing. His memory was fuzzy. But he seemed to understand just what he was. But where was the bigger question. The place was made out of concrete and some form of metal. Lights lit up the room to an unhealthy degree.
Eradicating any sort of shadow that could exist in the room. Exposing everything. Every pipe. Every support beam. Every cable.
Still yet, he didn't understand what had happened. The more he remained awake, the more he began to remember, but even then he still barely could recall most of his life. He shifted his head down.
Before him stood some of the same insects he remembered from so long ago. He felt a sneer come up from his throat. Yet, the sound came out like someone had slapped auto tune onto it. It felt alien to him. Then he finally noticed what had happened to him.
His emerald and gold scales were mostly gone. Replaced with cold grey and black metal. It covered most of his chest and legs. He could only guess that his arms were the same way. Yet he couldn't move an inch. It was like his body was stuck in place. Like a statue.
Yet the little insects seemed to ignore him. They seemed to be conversing between each other. He couldn't hear what they were saying but he was certain they were speaking about him. Finally he felt the feeling in his arms come back. He glanced down at them, and to his surprise. His natural sabre blade-like claws were replaced with what could only be described as sickles. Two barbed objects next to them. His arms were covered in the same heartless armor plating.
Just what had these little monsters done to him?
To say he was upset was an understatement. He was downright furious. He began to move, or at the very least tried to. Yet still his body refused to respond. He found himself growing increasingly agitated by the moment. Finally, his tail moved. Yet it felt alien to him. He could feel something different about it. They modified his tail.
It felt like it was some kind of pincer. Four components. Probably better then the bladed tip that used to make it up. He couldn't remember what happened to it. But he didn't doubt that the little insects just changed it for the hell of it.
He then heard the scientists speak in a much louder pitch. As suddenly an electrical current ripped through his body. He let out a low rumbling growl of agony. It was like whatever organic parts of him were being zapped by more energy then his old companion. Yet the pain died down into fury as he kept his gaze focused on the humans.
"Surely this cyborg will make a great addition to our dwindling mech fleet." One of them mused from the catwalk.
"For sure man. I mean, we've given him more fire power then even Kiryu or Mecha Godzilla." The other responded. "Maybe it'll be the one to kill Godzilla."
Godzilla.
That name sounded familiar. Then he remembered. Damn that overgrown reptile. Now he remembered. The earth Kaiju that ripped his arm off. He felt a snarl creep up into his mouth again. As he began to try and move again. Yet his body refused to cooperate. That's when he noticed. He was restrained. By the wrists and ankles. He could even feel that his tail was in the same predicament.
He hissed in anger again. As he was shocked by the pathetic insects. This time, it didn't hurt as much. He wanted out. He kept thrashing about in his restraints. Attempting to escape still, and they kept shocking him. Yet he pushed through the pain. Until his vision suddenly displayed a target lock icon.
Leaving him confused. What was this?
The icon suddenly split into two, before going to the edges of his vision. He turned his head to one side. Then the other. Then he finally understood it. They took his eyes. The bastards' stole his eyes. Now he remembered more of who he was. But, his visor was showing him two targets. Within range of his scythes
He was Gigan.
And he would not be contained like some show animal for human entertainment. He had a score to settle with Godzilla. As much as the humans wanted to control him, Gigan most certainly did not want to be controlled by them. Sure his old three headed friend was gone. But now he was his own master now. First he had to escape from his prison, and then find another old friend.
He would not be someone else's pawn now. Especially with a score to settle with the pathetic Gojira that did this too him in the first place.
"Are you sure those restraints can hold it?" One of the insects asked.
"Of course. Cross wouldn't give us faulty equipment, right?" The other answered.
"You want to stay here and find out?" The first man asked.
"Hell no." His buddy answered.
The two scientists step back. One foot behind the other before they turned and fled the room. As alarms began to blare throughout the facility. As it began to go into lockdown. By now, the electricity died down, basically becoming ineffective. As smoke billowed from his form, and Gigan suddenly activated a new ability he didn't know he had.
As from his armor clad arms shot out two hooks attached to some kind of cable from each arm. So that's what those two devices were. As the two hooks stabbed into generators on either side of Gigan. Sending an electrical current through Gigan's frame. Electricity crackling through the cables and into his body. But instead of being painful. It just seemed to tickle Gigan. As the two generators finally exploded. The lights died out almost immediately afterwards.
If he could smile. He would. As his visor instantly shifted to allow him to see. As Gigan's visor began to glow more and more brightly. As energy crackled out of it. Before he raised his head up towards the roof of the facility they were keeping him in. The roof being blasted open by an almost flame-like energy beam. Tunneling through concrete, metal, rock, and dirt. As natural sunlight bathed him.
Feeling it bask upon him once again, Gigan smashed his restraints. As they were practically harmless to keep him in place now. They collided harmlessly to the floor in pieces next to his frame. But Gigan didn't escape just yet. He thrust his arm forward. Crushing the catwalk beneath it as it crumpled just from him touching it. He charged another blast of his Optic Blast. Instead of a long continuous stream of energy blasting out from them, it was was basically what could be described as a shotgun blast of pure energy.
The walls exploded around him, exposing hallways and what not around him. As Gigan began to cackle like a madman. Flexing his back fins slightly as the mechanical components of his body whirred and shifted with each movement he made. He was examining himself.
These upgrades weren't as bad he thought.
Gigan began to get ready for flight. His fins moving into a flight position. But a new thing appeared on his body. A pair of thrusters on his back. They roared to life. Flame and smoke exploding out from them. As Gigan began to ascend towards the sky. Like a space shuttle. Gigan flew up through the hole in the roof that he created. Leaving behind his prison for who knows how long.
Now he was a freed beast. But first things first. Before he could settle his score with his old enemy. He needed to reunite with an old friend.
After that? Gigan and Godzilla had a score to settle, and Gigan was keen on getting his long missing victory on the monster that nearly killed him. As Gigan soared up higher and higher into the atmosphere. Above the clouds before blasting off at speeds fighter jets could only dream of reaching.
Clouds vanishing beneath him as he blasted off into the distance.
IKDC Headquarters
"It seems your little pet project has escaped with less difficulty then you assumed." Peter remarked. As he and another man were watching the recording of Gigan flying away.
"It's all going according to plan. Trust me." The other person spoke.
"I sure hope you're correct, mister Koiva." Peter remarked.
"Relax. This will benefit both the IKDC and Venator." Cyrus replied. Arms crossing over his chest. "Once Gigan kills Godzilla, people will flock to support you and me."
"And if he doesn't?"
"That's not really my problem. Is it?"
Peter threw the other man a glare. Before looking back at the screen as the footage finally ended. As much as he didn't trust Cyrus. The head of Venator didn't seem all that trustworthy. But, if the man was right about anything. It was that this would be an incredible PR booster. Especially to people who doubted his work.
Besides. If Godzilla can be killed. Then the rest of the other Kaiju, like Megalon, Anguirus, Rodan, and many others could be killed too. Although, Peter highly doubted that Megalon and Gigan would fight if they reunited like this.
Or if Gigan would even remain on their side once Godzilla was out of the picture. After all. The Kaiju was as unpredictable as he was dangerous. Especially now.
Birth Island
Godzilla felt a presence. It stirred him from his nap. It was a familiar presence. One he swore he wouldn't ever feel again. Yet it was somehow back. Raising his head from the rocky floor of his den, he stared out into the horizon of the evening sky. His son moved too. Letting out a low noise to his father. Almost asking him if everything was okay.
His gaze shifted over to his son. Letting out a low rumble as he nuzzled his maw against Junior's side. Silently telling him everything was okay. Yet Godzilla's tail swished slightly on the ground in slight agitation. His mood was already soured by Titanosaurus attacking his home. But now? One of his old foes was somehow back from the dead.
If he stirred up trouble again, Godzilla would deal with it. But for now, he just wanted to rest and spend some time with his family. Especially with his mate.
So, Godzilla lay his head down on the ground again, and closed his eyes. Going back to sleep.
Chapter 6: Reunion
Chapter Text
Tanzania, Africa
Trudging through the savannah of Tanzania, was Megalon. The massive Kaiju was uprooting dirt and vegetation with each mighty step. Animals fled the scene. Ever since most of Africa had fallen back into the wilderness. Populations of the once nearly endangered animals had shot back up. They were smart enough to get out of the way of the marching Kaiju. Who ignored the wildlife. The bipedal stag beetle-like monster trudged forward.
Megalon's yellow, insectoid eyes scanned the horizon. As his massive horn that extended from his forehead. Ending in four prongs that could be used in combat, and to help him tunnel through the crust of the earth.
He was bulky, with his body being supported by two powerful hind legs. Which were a mix between a an elephant and a beetle's. With a hunched posture and a pair of massive arms. Which Ended in a pair of pincers, with a large, drill-like claw extending out from his forearm. Covering his tiny hands. Just below his main set of arms, were a smaller set. Which rested against the sides of his torso. They were small, about the equivalent to him that a Tyrannosaurus rex's would be.
His hide was a durable exo-skeleton, which resembled armor plating. But jagged and slightly uneven. It was a deep brown like the earth, and an ash grey. With hints of yellow on his face and chest. He had scars from countless battles of all sorts that littered his hide. Battle trophies from countless centuries of fighting. But underneath that, was flesh and bone.
On his back were two large armor "shields" which protected his wings. Which were now useless, and really only added to an intimidation display. One he hasn't used in who knows how long.
But nowadays there was no need for it. It had been a while since Megalon had encountered any sort of resistance. Human or Kaiju. It was boring really. The little insects didn't send anymore of their tin cans after him. Megalon shifted his beetle-like head to look down randomly. Looking at a flock of birds that flew away from his body as he crushed the tree they were resting in underfoot. The Kaiju let out an unamused chittering noise from his mandibles. As the birds screeched and scattered.
His tail, which acted as a counterbalance to his body, shifted slightly on the ground behind him. Further tearing up the environment further. Sending scores of grass and dirt across the region. The reason he looked behind him was because he thought he heard some of the little insects that he was used to destroying the hives of.
Megalon just assumed his mind was playing tricks on him. After all he couldn't see anything. If there even were any of the little beings, they'd probably launched a massive distance away just from Megalon's tail. B
Speaking of the little bugs. Megalon could remember a time when he was revered as a god by them. Back when the world was as it should be. Wild and free of their poison. As Megalon could see it. The world was returning to how it should be.
They used to treat him like some benevolent deity who could bring them fresh soil for farming. But also be one who could take just as much as he would give. But they traded their faith in him over to some false god. One that only seemed to exist in their language. Yet didn't exist.
Nothing that Megalon could prove his might against. Good riddance to the little devils. They deserved their fate now.
Even if Megalon wasn't the one who would bring their own destruction. He was certain they'd kill themselves first. Besides, they could barely hurt him back when they had dominion over the lands. Even the mightiest empires could be toppled against the might of time. Megalon had seen it countless times. Nothing was eternal.
After all, he had been around when life was new the planet. Back when everything was in chaos.
But now, things were shaking up again. He could feel it. Especially with how things have changed. He could've guessed the humans were on their deathbeds. After all, they sent none of their machines of any sort to fight him. He simply just had to walk through their wall and city to get to where he was now.
Megalon kept walking forward. His pace as slow as ever. He was in no hurry to get anywhere. He felt at peace.
Although, Megalon suddenly paused in his step. Stopping as he heard a roar of some kind. if the monster could smile, he would be. Perhaps he would finally get the fight he was looking for after all. As he raised his head towards the sky and looked around.
Searching for any sign of the approaching combatant, he couldn't see them so far. At least until he watched them descend from the sky in front of him. Like some kind of divine god touching the same ground as a mortal that was supposedly beneath them. Megalon watched the new arrival's movements closely. Keeping focus in case whatever, or whoever this was wasn't a threat. But given by the cold metal plating covering their fame. Megalon could easily guess that the new arrival was one of those tin cans.
Or part one at least. It didn't look fully cybernetic like the other ones Megalon had faced in the past.
Yellow energy crackling across his horn, and travelling down to his main arms. Buzzing and crackling like a downed powerline. As he faced his supposed opponent. Although there was something familiar about them. Like he knew them from somewhere.
Megalon let out a low rumbling hiss. A low threat to whatever this maybe to either get out of his way, or face his wrath. Yet still, he couldn't help but recognize the monster. The gold and emerald scales stood out the most to him.
It couldn't be.
Megalon cocked his head to the side slightly. Letting out another chittering sound, this time out of confusion. To which he got a shrill screech in reply. As the cyborg's red visor gleamed slightly. Either from the sun or from its own light.
He could recognize the noise anywhere. It was Gigan. Somehow back from the dead.
Yet Megalon didn't greet him. The hulking titan was still skeptical of if this was actually Gigan, or some trick the little insects were playing on him. After all, he did look... different. Last time he saw him was on the fateful day in one of those insects' hives. That was a long time ago, and Gigan wasn't exactly left in one piece. Now, he looked more machine then organic.
The two continued their stare down, until Gigan let out a shrill, yet short screeching sound. It was like he was chuckling. Tapping his claws together, the metal clinging loudly each time his arms struck together. That's when Megalon finally lowered his guard, and the crackling energy dissipated. It was him.
Megalon then began to speak in the universal Kaiju tongue. Something only Kaiju could understand and speak. To humans, it just sounded like the typical noises they'd make.
"Gigan." Megalon growled. "You have cheated a date with the reaper, haven't you."
"Sure have buddy." Gigan chuckled. His voice having an electronical ring to it.
Making it sound much more unsettling then it already was.
"Doesn't surprise me." Megalon huffed. "What do you want?"
"To get revenge on Godzilla." Gigan replied.
"You're a fool. All four of us together couldn't kill him last time." Megalon pointed out.
"But last time, he had help." Gigan said. As he looked one of his arms over. The metal plating shifting and hissing slightly before resettling. "This time, he's by himself, his buddies are too far to help him now."
"Tempting. What's in it for me?" Megalon asked.
"A rematch, with his mate." Gigan answered. "Don't you want to pay her back for your last fight?"
Megalon shifted his gaze down to his arm. Which held a faint scar from Godzilla's mate. It'd feel good to finally get pay back for what she did to him.
His gaze shifted back to Gigan. Who was currently looking over his new augmentations. Megalon couldn't tell if Gigan was admiring them, or absolutely livid about them. After all, he had been so prideful and overconfident in the past. Which was exactly why he got in the situation he had so long ago.
But still, the promise of revenge was tempting to Megalon. Finally, the beetle-like monster let out a sharp exhale. Before shifting his gaze back to Gigan. Staring right into his almost soulless looking red visor. Before then speaking again.
"Fine. I'll do it. But if this fails, You leave me alone." Megalon growled out. Stepping forward towards Gigan.
Looming over the alien as he moved his face right up against his. Leaving mere inches between their heads. Although Gigan didn't seem all that intimidated by Megalon.
"For good."
"Fine, but with your brawn, and my strategic genius, we'll win. None of that crap with our old companion. Just pure work to the bone." Gigan answered. Smug as ever.
"Your companion. You only dragged me along because you needed more muscle." Megalon reminded him.
"Regardless. We should move on Godzilla's home. Maybe we'll be able to get both him and his mate when they're off guard." Gigan replied.
As he began to ascend into the sky. But this time, much slower as he looked down at Megalon.
"I'll lead the way, I don't think you'd be able to get there quick enough." Gigan said. Almost mocking Megalon.
"Shut up." Was all Megalon answered with.
Gigan fell silent after that, simply turning mid-air like he had complete mastery over the very winds themselves. Beginning to fly away
As the massive Kaiju began to walk again. This time following Gigan as he led the way. Although, as the two Kaiju marched away, a small drone was watching them from high up in the sky. The logo for Venator was marked on the side of it. It had been monitoring the whole conversation between the two Kaiju. As it began to follow the two Kaiju as they began to make their way eastward.
Venator Headquarters
Cyrus was sitting at his desk, amused to see that the first thing Gigan did after escaping was go find an old ally. This was turning out to be an interesting development. After all, Gigan with his new advancements could take on Godzilla by himself. But, he probably assumed Megalon was just a security benefit.
After all, Megalon was an incredibly strong Kaiju. Not the smartest, but very much a physical powerhouse.
Cyrus was almost certain that Megalon was going to attack Gigan, after all, Megalon was infamous for thrashing mechs in the past. If he could remember correctly, about five mechs were now in the scrapyard because of Megalon alone. He was almost certain that Peter would've sent Mecha Godzilla after him by now.
But, behaviors can be deceiving. Besides, now Cyrus had some actual entertain for the next while. Especially when the two Kaiju thrash Japan and China's fleet that blockaded Birth Island and finally basically cripple the two countries.
Maybe he should grab some popcorn, a snack and a drink? After all, he was going to need it for the showdown that was going to happen. Even if it wasn't for a day or so.
But not long after, Gigan's helm suddenly shifted to look at the drone, and glowed brightly. Before blasting it out of the sky. Apparently the cyborg finally noticed it. Cyrus just simply raised a brow as the connection cut out.
No matter. Cyrus could just order in another drone to continue watch. After all, he put a lot of money into upgrading Gigan, and to pay off the IKDC for taking his corpse, along with one other thing. But that was a surprise for later. For now, he had a show to watch.
Chapter 7: Trouble On The Horizon
Chapter Text
Outpost Atlas A Few Hours Later
The command center for Outpost Atlas was going nuts. For starters, Megalon's tracking signature suddenly began to be going eastward. Evident by the massive screens that were at the center of the room. There was six in total. Each part contributed to a massive world map. One that had had several red dots that occasionally moved once and a while. Each dot represented a Kaiju.
The one on Birth Island was Godzilla, another that was approaching the island was his mate, Gojirin. Another near Vietnam was Titanosaurus. Two in the United States, one was Anguirus, the other was a Pterosaur-like Kaiju named Rodan. There were a few other signatures across the planet. But the important one was Megalons. Which seemed to rapidly be moving eastwards from Africa through the Indian Ocean.
So far, the staff were panicking to identify where the Kaiju was going. So far, it was hypothesized that Megalon was going to attack one of the following major cities judging by his movement patterns; Singapore, Bangkok, Jarkata, or Manila. The sudden change in Megalon's path was startling. Not just because it was assumed the Kaiju was going back to Sudan, his home territory. But because it was nearly a complete one eighty turn.
He was certain his staff were already warning the military command of the United Asia Defense Front. Or UADF for short. It was comprised of China, Japan, Philippines, Indonesia, India, and Vietnam. But also included Australia and New Zealand -even though the two nations weren't apart of the Asian continent-. They had the most territory out of the other factions. Granted, there were very few left.
Except for the North American war states. Which were too busy fighting amongst themselves to really unite under one banner.
Serizawa just watched the screen. A hand resting on his chin in thought as Megalon's beacon blinked and appeared again. As it inched closer and closer eastward. Keeping the same pace with no sign of slowing down or stopping.
"Any idea what he's doing sir?" Jackson asked. Looking over at Serizawa.
"No." The megazoologist answered in an honest tone. "His sudden change in direction is worrying. Perhaps he is fleeing from another monster?"
"What would be nasty enough to scare him?" Jackson asked. "It's not Godzilla, that's for sure."
"With the rate new Kaiju are appearing around the world, I wouldn't doubt a newer, more powerful Kaiju has scared him into going a different direction."
"I hope its not a new one. The last thing we need is another apex class to worry about. Should I still give the warning out to Jarkata?"
"Please do. I don't want another rampage to happen." Ishiro answered.
Jackson nodded and barked orders to some of the staff. As Ishiro just continued to watch what Megalon was doing. The way the monster was moving made him doubt he was scared. He was moving quickly, yes. But it wasn't in a way that indicated that the Kaiju was fleeing from something. More like he was moving somewhere in a hurry. His gaze followed the direction that Megalon was moving in. It looked like the monster wasn't even heading for any of the last population centers in the region.
It looked like the Kaiju was going towards the Monster Island Archipelago. But why? What could he possibly want there? Unless...
The dots began to connect in Serizawa's head. The Kaiju was suddenly moving towards Godzilla's location. Surely it wasn't to take Godzilla's territory? Or did Megalon just randomly get the urge to fight Godzilla. They didn't have much history, if anything it seemed more likely he'd go after Gojirin. After all, the two did clash in the Epicenter event.
While Megalon was strong, he wasn't strong enough to take on both Godzilla and Gojirin unless he had a death wish. Even then, he'd have to get through the blockade that surrounded the island.
"Jackson. I need you to send a drone out." Ishiro randomly called out.
"May I ask why, doctor?" Jackson asked. Looking back over at Serizawa.
"I want to get eyes onto what Megalon's doing at the moment." Serizawa answered.
The man nodded, and then barked more orders. The staff hurried around and got ready to do what Jackson ordered.
Inside one of the last few operational hangar bays for the outpost, a drone was being prepared to launch. As the last bit of fuel was loaded into the vehicle, before the hangar bay doors creaked and groaned. Slowly opening. The crew had to hold their breath. Praying that the doors would actually open, and not get jammed.
Only to breath a sigh of relief as the large metal doors opened fully, and the drone was launched. With it hovering first in the air, before shooting forward out of the hangar. Disappearing into the sky at incredible speeds. Racing off towards the horizon to locate Megalon.
While the crew cheered out in joy. Probably because they weren't even sure the drone would be able to take off.
Everyone in the command center held their breath once the main screens swapped from the world map to a field view of the Indian Ocean as it approached where Megalon was. The Kaiju was seen swimming. Almost like a dog, using his massive arms to propel himself through the water. Water splashing and lapping over the massive Kaiju's hide.
Although something caught the staff's attention. As the drone's camera suddenly flicked up. Slightly ahead and in the air to where Megalon was, was some kind of cyborg. One that looked way too similar to a Kaiju they assumed was dead. Yet was somehow back. Decorated in metal plating that covered most of its body. Yet still looked very similar to how it once did when it still lived.
"That can't be..." One of the staff commented.
"How? He's been dead for decades." Another added on.
"Gigan." Jackson growled out. "Who was stupid enough to bring it back from the dead?"
The monster seemed to be oblivious of the drone as it moved to follow after the two Kaiju still. Gigan still looked similar. With a serrated beak and a chicken-like head. With a curved spike extending out from his forehead and pointed forward, and several more on his neck. The three wing-like fins on his back were the same as before. But more red then the yellow the surviving snippets of the Epicenter Event's footage showed. Decorated with hints of metal plating. Mounted on his chest was a buzzsaw.
It was like they were looking at a ghost. Yet, one that very much was alive and kicking.
The monster seemed to be flying with jet thrusters mounted on his back. Just beneath his back fins. Almost like they were connected to them. That explained how he was able to fly. The running theory when he was alive was that the Kaiju could manipulate gravity just enough to fly around.
Serizawa felt himself frown. Mostly in anger. That someone risked the deaths of millions to bring the monster back, and yet it was allowed to roam freely. Without so much as a leash to keep it in check. He could only think of two groups who would be responsible for doing this to Gigan. The IKDC, or Venator.
He doubted it was the IKDC. But he didn't know for sure if Venator would be capable of doing this.
While it may be easy to call him a hypocrite for thinking co-existence was possible with all the Kaiju. Gigan was no Earth Kaiju. An invader from beyond. A marauder class Kaiju. A term that applied to any Kaiju not from Earth. There was only two known ones. Gigan, and his pal. His very much dead one.
Megalon wasn't a marauder class, instead he was an apex class. One of the most dangerous classifications for a Kaiju. They were the strongest, and really could only be competed with by other apex classes. Godzilla and Titanosaurus were the prime examples of one. But, Megalon was probably one of the strongest apexes known. There were other classes too. Such as titan, protector, sentinel, and destroyer.
But, the main worry now was Gigan. If he was able to be brought back from the dead. It made Serizawa anxious about if other hostile Kaiju could be brought back too. But, for now he was thankful that wasn't the case.
"What do we do sir?" One of the workers asked.
All eyes were on Serizawa and Jackson now. Even Jackson shifted his gaze to look at Serizawa. Who exhaled softly before speaking
"Inform UADF about the situation. Tell them that they need to activate the Destroy All Monsters Protocol. If things get out of hand, I fear we might need to fight the monsters ourselves." Serizawa finally said.
Serizawa could see Jackson raise a brow underneath his helmet, and everyone else went silent immediately afterwards. Visibly surprised his old friend willingly said for the Destroy All Monsters Protocol to be activated.
The Destroy All Monsters Protocol was a direct order that really boiled down to "if a Kaiju attacks, engage them with orders to kill". It was mostly used during the war. The last time Serizawa could remember it being used was during operation Long March back in 2080. Back when NATO was trying to kill Godzilla and all sorts of other powerful monsters.
But, everyone was surprised that Serizawa. The man who preached the most about co-existence, gave the order for the protocol to be issued. But since it was Gigan and Megalon. Two Kaiju that could bring any sort of damage to the planet.
"Ryan." Jackson started. Looking at one of the staff.
"Yeah I got you." The man answered. As he picked up the radio and begin to speak into it. "USADF command, this is Outpost Atlas for the IKDC, we are initiating Destroy All Monsters Protocol. Hostiles confirmed, Gigan and Megalon. Over."
"Copy, did you say Gigan, over?" A man with a thick Australian accent asked.
"Confirmed. Gigan is alive with modifications to body. Over." Ryan answered. "Source of modifications is unknown."
"Copy that, thank you Outpost Atlas." The line then went silent.
Typically, protocol was to report any Kaiju attacks to IKDC command. But, Ryan just jumped the gun on it. After all, this was important. Much more important then letting Cross or Peter catch wind of this and try to downplay the situation. After all, the UADF and IKDC were almost at odds over everything nowadays. So it'd just be easier to let them deal with it.
After all, the UADF were the stronger force compared to the IKDC. If Peter or Cross got on his ass for this, he could just brush it off as letting the government have some fun. Besides, for all he knew, the IKDC could be in on this.
For now though, they would have to sit and wait for any updates on the situation. Ryan would probably hear the radio chatter become an outrage if or when the UADF forces engaged the two Kaiju, and hopefully hold them off.
Because right now. As much as no one wanted to admit it, but Godzilla was their only hope.
Chapter 8: Family Time
Chapter Text
Birth Island That Evening
When Godzilla awoke from his nap, he let out a low rumbling sound. Stretching slightly as he began to get up. Junior, who had been laying against his father's side, also sound asleep, was rudely awakened by his father moving. Landing dramatically on his side. Letting out a surprise yet slightly frustrated squeak sound from his mouth. Looking up at his father.
Godzilla lowered his head down to look at his son. Dropping down onto all fours to nudge Junior back right side up. Godzilla nuzzled his son affectionally. Apologizing for moving so suddenly. But, Godzilla got up a little bit. Opening his maw and grabbing Junior by the scruff of his neck. Picking him up as Godzilla began to exit his lair.
He made his way to the massive lake that sat in the center of his home. Lowering his head down to drop Junior into the water. With a soft splash. As the little Kaiju flailed around in the water for a few moments. Godzilla watched him in silence. Seeing if his son was capable of swimming yet. After all, that was the essential part about their species. Their ability to swim. Godzilla had taught it to his adopted son, Minilla a long time ago. Besides, Junior was at that age where he should learn.
Junior finally got himself right side up in the water. Beginning to doggie paddle around in the shallow part of the lake. Junior was tall enough that he reached up to Godzilla's knee. But the lake was deep enough that it could let Junior swim around.
Eventually, Godzilla would teach his son how to swim in the ocean. But not now, especially not when Titanosaurus was still on the prowl. Godzilla had no idea if the Kaiju was even still around his island.
For now, he'd just have to teach Junior to swim in the lake. Even if now the lake was starting to outgrow its use as Junior's swimming pool, after all, with so many of their kind gone, his son was going to shoot up like a rocket in terms of growing. Minilla had been the same way.
Godzilla sat down at the edge of the water, as Junior got more and more accustomed to the water. Godzilla was proud of his son. Which was a rare thing for his kind. After all, fathers weren't the most caring of their offspring. That's how his father, Kyoshin, had been before him.
Junior let out a few happy squeaks as he thrashed happily in the water. Moving much more like a crocodile in terms of his movements. Showing off a little bit to his father. Who watched on silently.
But very much prideful of his son. He was a natural learner.
Although, as Godzilla watched his son play around in the water, a few loud footfalls were heard from the distance. Drawing the king's attention as he turned his head towards the source. As his mate, Gojirin, approached him. She had a similar appearance to him. But was slightly slimmer, and had much more jagged looking dorsal fins, that had a green tint to them. With a deep greyish black hide instead of his charcoal black.
Trailing behind her was his other son, Minilla. Who was half the height of his father. He didn't much resemble either Godzilla or Gojirin. After all, he was born from a different family. His face was much slimmer and less crocodilian-like. With a pair of fangs seen. With a much more armored looking appearance. Yet still, he viewed Godzilla as his own father.
He approached his father. His tail lashing side to side slightly in joy at seeing his father. Who let out a low chuffing sound as a greeting to his son. Before shifting his gaze over to his mate. While Minilla ran off to go see what Junior was doing in the water.
Gojirin sat down next to Godzilla. Watching as Minilla waded into the water. As he made his way to where Junior was. His younger brother letting out a soft chirping sound. As Minilla swung his arm through the water, splashing Junior.
Who squeaked in reply before diving down into the water to get away from his brother.
Minilla roared and chased after his brother. Swimming after him. As Godzilla moved his head to nuzzle Gojrin on the shore. Letting out a soft huff. As Gojirin tilted her head against his. Letting out a soft rumbling sound. As the two parents watched their children horse around in the water.
Splashing each other and chasing. Although Godzilla watched for if Minilla got a bit too rough with Junior. After all, Minilla was much bigger then Junior. So getting a bit too rough with the play wrestling could end badly. More in a sense of Junior running back to the two because Minilla hit him too hard.
But, so far there wasn't any sign of Minilla getting too rough with his brother. Which made Godzilla exhale softly in relief.
Gojirin however nudged him softly. Telling him to relax. As Godzilla glanced back at her. Then looking out towards the horizon. As the sun set in the mountain range ahead of them. The island beginning to go silent as the day came to a close. It was a beautiful sight, and Godzilla let out a soft exhale from his mouth as he leaned against Gojirin.
Who, let out a soft rumbling sound, as she moved her head down to Godzlla's shoulder. Flicking her tongue out to clean the bite mark from his fight with Titanosaurus earlier. It made Godzilla flinch, and Gojirin pulled her head back. Looking at Godzilla out of concern.
She didn't mean to hurt him. But Godzilla let out a soft rumbling sound of reassurance. It was just a reflex. Besides, it didn't sting that much. It was more just his body responding automatically. Gojirin just let out a soft rumble in return as she nuzzled her head against him once again.
Her tail sliding across the ground to be next to her mate's. Godzilla instinctively moved his tail closer to hers in return. As the two continued to sit in silence. Although, their peace was suddenly disturbed by the sound of several explosions from off in the distance. Followed by the boom of cannons as Godzilla raised his head in alarm. Looking around in confusion at what was going on.
Godzilla then moved away from his mate, and let out a low, and short roar to call Junior and Minilla back to the shore. Which the two hurryingly listened as they swam back to their parents.
Off in the distance, Godzilla could see a red beam of energy cut through the sky. Along with several explosions in the air. Something was attacking the human's fleet. Godzilla let out a low huff from his nostrils as he watched the scene.
Gojirin meanwhile nudged her children with her head. Moving them along. As Minilla led his brother away from the scene and back to their family's den.
As Godzilla and Gojirin looked up into the sky. Watching the sight as everything fell silent. Godzilla's dorsal fins flashed a blue shade, as Gojirin's did the same, but a more green then blue. The two were waiting for anything. But the only sound they heard was the soft whistle of the wind.
That is until they heard a pair of thunderous foot steps approaching them. As off in the distance, a hulking figure seemed to step up the hill that led from the shore. Neither could make out much details of the approaching figure. At least until the two Gojira noticed a bright yellow energy begin to appear across the approaching monster's body. Staring from it's head and going down to its arms.
Only then did it reveal the identity of the monster; Megalon.
But that didn't explain the bright red energy that appeared in the sky before. Although. Nearby to Megalon, descending from the sky, was another monster. A glowing red visor and lights that adorned its frame. Thrusters mounted on its back as it landed on the ground a good distance away.
There was no doubt about it; this was one of humanity's mechs.
Yet. There was something oddly familiar about it. That's when it let out a low mechanical noise. A haunting noise that almost sounded like it was laughing at Godzilla. As He kept his focus on the mech, while Gojirin shifted her focus onto Megalon. The two Gojira stood back to back.
That's when Godzilla noticed something about the mech. Glinting in the soft glow of its features. Godzilla could see golden and emerald scales, shining slightly in the soft light. There was only one Kaiju that had scales like that.
It couldn't be. No Godzilla killed him... right?
The mech- no cyborg seemed to laugh at him. Noticing how he seemed shocked that he was alive.
Gigan was loving his old enemy's confusion. As then he looked over at his companion, and Megalon glanced back at him. The two Kaiju shared a brief glance.
As Gigan suddenly lunged forward at Godzilla, using his thrusters to give him a speed boost. Screeching loudly and drawing his arm back. Going to strike at Godzilla's chest. While Megalon charged forwards at Gojirin at the same time. But slower then how Gigan was moving. Gojirin wasted no time in charging forward at Megalon as well.
Chapter Text
As Gigan lunged forward at Godzilla, the Gojira reacted quickly. Moving to the side as Gigan's scythe blade skimmed right past his flank, just narrowly missing him. As Godzilla responded by grabbing Gigan by the throat and shoved him backwards. Sending him skidding backwards. Kicking up chunks of earth as he did so, but Gigan stopped himself from flying back too far by digging his feet into the ground. Godzilla charged up his Atomic Breath. Blasting it at Gigan. Who, responded by firing a laser beam in return. The blue flame and red energy beam collided. As the two Kaiju engaged in a beam clash.
The two seemed to be on equal footing, until Gigan put more energy into his beam. Rapidly overpowering Godzilla's Atomic Breath. Hitting the Gojira directly in the face. Burning it as Godzilla growled in agony. Stepping backwards and grabbing at his face in pain. Gigan leapt forward again. Striking Godzilla in the jaw with an elbow.
To which, Godzilla retaliated by slamming his palm into Gigan's face. Making the cyborg step to the side, slightly dazed. As Godzilla blinked once or twice to clear his vision. Before charging forwards at Gigan. Who jumped over Godzilla, avoiding him with ease. But the cyborg failed to account for Godzilla's tail. Which struck him in the side, and hard.
Sending Gigan skidding to the side once again. He hissed softly and extended both of his arms out. Firing forwards his grappling hooks at Godzilla. With them wrapping around the Gojira's body before going taut. Digging into Godzilla's skin and making him growl in discomfort.
Gigan yanked his arms back, pulling Godzilla towards him. As the cyborg jumped up to deliver a knee strike to Godzilla's chin, while calling back his grappling hooks. Making him stumble backwards, and shake his head in pain. As Gigan suddenly flew towards Godzilla. Tackling him, but Godzilla forced the cyborg to change direction. Sending both of them into the lake with a loud splash.
The two Kaiju sank into the depths. Where Godzilla slammed his arms into Gigan's head. Dazing him as Godzilla slipped from his grasp. The water was his domain, and he was going to use it to his full advantage. As Godzilla gripped onto Gigan's frame. Diving down sharply into the depths of the lake, heading towards one of the tunnels that led out into the ocean.
Gigan struggled to get free. As his tail finally moved and grabbed the back of Godzilla's head. Gripping tightly as Gigan yanked Godzilla's head up, and made him stop descending. As Gigan's visor began to glow brightly and he fired a point blank blast of his Optic Laser into Godzilla's neck. Specifically his gills.
His opponent let go of Gigan. Pushing him away as Godzilla growled audibly in anger. Blood leaking from his gills as he suddenly dove down into the depths. Leaving Gigan confused until Godzilla suddenly swam up from below him. Tackling him once again. But this time sharply ascending towards the surface. The metal of Gigan's hull screeching in protest from Godzilla's grip.
As the two Kaiju exploded out from the water. With Godzilla slamming Gigan onto the shore. Pinning the Kaiju down. While Gigan activated his buzz saw. Cutting Godzilla and making him get off before he was sliced wide open. Although the Gojira charged up his Atomic Breath. Firing it at Gigan.
Who moved out of the way just in time before his face was melted by the blue flame.
Gigan got back up onto his feet. Stepping back from Godzilla. Who stepped onto the shore. The two were sizing each other up. As Godzilla lunged forward at Gigan. Swinging his claws at the cyborg. Who dodged and sliced Godzilla on the shoulder with his scythe-like arm. Godzilla roared out in pain. Crimson red blood trickling down Godzilla's shoulder. Gigan seemed to laugh at his opponent, almost mocking him. As Godzilla leapt at Gigan.
Biting him on the shoulder. The metal screeching in protest as Gigan's visor blared with warnings as the cyborg tried to pry Godzilla off his shoulder. Yet, Godzilla's grip was too strong. As the Kaiju suddenly ripped Gigan's arm from his body. Sparks blazing. Gigan screeched in agony and stepped to the side. Those damned insects really attached his cybernetics to his nerves.
Godzilla dropped Gigan's arm, and turned to face his opponent. Yet, Gigan didn't give up. Leaping at Godzilla and slicing his leg with his remaining arm. Before gripping Godzilla's face with his tail. Slamming his face into the dirt. At least, until Godzilla made him let go, and Gigan flew up into the sky to give himself the advantage this time.
Meanwhile, Gojirin was trying to stop Megalon from stabbing her in the stomach with his massive arm. As the beetle-like Kaiju snarled sharply at her. Putting more effort into trying to stab the Gojira. But, Gojirin shoved him backwards roughly. Shoulders heaving as Megalon merely just had to readjust his footing to recover. In the years that had past since their last fight,
The two of them were battered and bruised. But Gojirin was much more injured then Megalon was. As the other Kaiju suddenly charged forwards at her. Tackling her and using his horn to restrain one of her arms as Megalon slammed her into the dirt roughly. Before raising his large arms and slamming them down on Gojirin's chest.
Knocking the wind out of her, and probably breaking a rib or two. As Megalon planted his foot down on her chest to keep her in place. Looming over her and letting out a soft chittering noise of amusement. As he reared his arm back and got ready to stab her.
However, Gojirin wasn't going down like that. As she began to charge up her Atomic Breath, and before Megalon could stab her. She blasted him in the chest near point blank with her greenish blue Atomic Breath. Sending Megalon stumbling backwards and nearly onto his back. Burning the chest plating of his armored carapace. As Megalon let out a growl in frustration at the female Gojira. As she pried herself up from the ground. Chunks of earth falling down from her back as she moved.
Megalon didn't wait for her to get up fully before continuing his barrage of attacks. Hitting Gojirin's dorsal fins over and over again. As she let out a hiss of pain. He was starting to get on her nerves.
Finally, Gojirin slammed her tail into Megalon's side. Sending him stumbling once more, but this time, Megalon fell into the dirt with a heavy thud. The dirt and foliage crumpling beneath him. As Gojirin turned her head to look at her mate. Watching as he was being barraged by attacks from his own opponent. Mostly red beams that seemed to burn his scaley skin. While other blasts missed and set the grass around them ablaze.
Gojirin finally stood up onto her feet, and began to make her way towards Godzilla. At least until Megalon suddenly grabbed her tail and yanked her back sharply. Pulling Gojirin back towards her.
"We're not done yet!" Megalon snarled at her in the ancient Kaiju language.
"Give it up already, Megalon." Gojirin hissed back.
"Never." Megalon snarled.
As Megalon grabbed Gojirin's head before she could fire off her Atomic Breath again. Making her cancel out the ability, as Megalon let go of her tail. Before quite literally lifting her up, and slamming her into the side of a nearby mountain. With rock and trees being crushed beneath Gojirin as Megalon slammed his arm down onto her shoulder. further pushing her into the mountain.
Gojirin groaned softly in pain. Yet, Megalon's attention was pulled away from her when Gigan screeched out in pain. Falling from the sky, smoke billowing from his side. Megalon growled softly in annoyance. As he delievered one final blow to Gojirin's head to knock her out. Before moving to go help Gigan against Godzilla.
Gigan landed in a hole after crashing. Godzilla had managed to damage his armor and thrusters bad enough to knock him out of the sky, and the Gojira stomped towards the cyborg. Another blast of Atomic Breath charging up as he prepared to deliver the final blow. Gigan could've moved. But for some reason he seemed to freeze up. Reliving the last moments of all that time ago. Right before everything went dark. But, before he could meet his end again, Megalon came in with the save.
Clobbering Godzilla in the side of the head with his fist. Sending the Gojira stumbling to the side. Dazzing Godzilla as he fired a blast of lightning from his horn at Godzilla's face. Further dazing him.
At least until Godzilla slammed his hand into Megalon's face. Quite literally smacking him. Although Megalon back hand smacked him back with his main arm. Knocking one of Godzilla's teeth out from his jaw. But Godzilla responded by punching Megalon in the chin.
Spit flying out from Megalon's mouth as the two continued to exchange blows. While Godzilla managed to land more blows, Megalon's punches hit harder.
Although, Gigan finally decided to get up from his dirt nap. Watching his ally and Godzilla continue to brawl, and even get into a beam clash. Although, that's when Gigan's visor seemed to suddenly glow and he was presented with an X-ray view of Godzilla's organs and skeleton. With his visor locking onto an organ next to Godzilla's lungs. It wasn't his heart.
But then the text displayed to him claimed it was an organ responsible for regulating his internal temperature. Then Gigan understood it. He finally got up, and staggered towards Godzilla. Who was too busy fighting Megalon to notice him. As Gigan swung his arm forward, and sliced Godzilla's chest. Making direct contact with the organ. Godzilla roared in pain and stumbled backwards. Clutching his chest in pain. As Megalon finally delivered an uppercut punch to Godzilla's chin.
With enough force to send him up into the air and down onto the ground. Where Godzilla slumped to his side. With Megalon moving to attack him again, rearing his arm back again to stab him. But suddenly, Gigan received new orders. Which forced him to act.
"Megalon. Wait." Gigan said.
The beetle-like Kaiju halted instantly.
"Why? Don't you want him dead?" Megalon growled.
"Just wait. Something- or someone has plans for him." Gigan finally said.
"Something's clearly wrong with your head." Megalon growled.
"Just trust me." Gigan finally snapped.
Megalon turned to face him now. Energy crackling between his claws and horn. Almost like he was willing to fight Gigan. In his current state, there was no way Gigan could even dream of beating him. Although, Megalon exhaled sharply. The energy dissipating as the beetle-like Kaiju turned away from Gigan.
As the cyborg received a set of coordinates on his visor, and almost instinctively, he began to fly away. Although with a very unstable flight path. He wasn't expecting Megalon to follow along after him. But the Kaiju did anyways. Leaving behind Birth Island and the two Gojira that they had defeated.
But, after the two kaiju left, Godzilla woke up. Slowly getting back up onto his feet, his wounds slowly starting to heal as he went over to Gojirin. Who lay slumped against the side of the mountain. Godzilla let out a soft rumbling sound. Sniffing her softly as he pulled his head back. He could tell she was injured.
Although, he clenched his hands tightly into fists. Growling audibly, his tail lashing side to side behind him. He had given those humans a warning not to trifle with him. Their hives were an example of his power. Yet they brought Gigan back from the dead, and sent him and Megalon to attack him. In his own home. They hurt his mate.
Godzilla let out a loud frustrated roar as he turned away and stomped off towards the ocean. Now, now he was going to carve through every last one of their hives.
Venator Headquarters
To say Cyrus was amused was an understatement. He was nearly jumping for joy internally as he watched Megalon and Gigan beat Gojirin and Godzilla into the dirt. But clearly, Gigan's current cybernetics weren't enough to kill Godzilla. He didn't want to have to rely on Megalon for Gigan to beat Godzilla.
Everything was going to plan so far. He just needed to watch the fireworks begin and the UADF scrambled to slow down Godzilla's inevitable rampage. After all, the Kaiju did have quite a temper. Now, Cyrus could just sit back and watch, and hope that Gigan doesn't some how fuck this up. He did have to guide Gigan into doing most of the work so far. But, perhaps now the Kaiju could finally get his win over the big lizard.
Cyrus just leaned back in his chair to relax. Closing his eyes as a slight smirk crossed his face.

Chapter 10: Set The World Ablaze Part One
Chapter Text
Jarkata, Indonesia, The Next Day
The clouds above Jarkata were dark, almost like midnight. Well, they should be. Rain was pelting the streets of the city, and the wind rustled loudly. Threatening to blow over trees. It was a tropical storm after all, and an evacuation for the city was happening in the middle of it. Yet, just beyond the massive coastal wall of the city's harbor. A Bright blue glow could be seen. Akuma could see it plain and simple. She was part of the UADF unit stationed in Jarkata. She was drenched from the downpour, they were put on watch because Megalon was supposedly out and about, and they were on high alert.
So far, they hadn't received the all clear yet.
But, the glow left her confused. It seemed to get brighter by the second, almost like it was suddenly getting closer, and it looked like it was pulsing with some kind of energy. Just then, her radio on her belt screamed to life
"Go-illa, att-king, s-d renforc-" Someone shouted over the radio before being cut offf.
"What the...?" Akuma grabbed her radio. "What's going on, did you say Godzilla?"
But there was no answer from the other end. Just then, the radiation detector suddenly beeped to life. Going higher and higher by the second before it quite literally exploded. Overloaded by whatever had happened, Akuma raised a brow in confusion. As finally, she looked back at the wall and stepped back.
Other UADF soldiers watched too. As then A low buzzing sound could be heard. It was getting louder and louder. Akuma jumped to the ground. Covering her ears, just as the nearby section of the wall suddenly exploded. Massive chunks of concrete and metal flying outwards in all directions. Smoke billowing out from the giant hole in the wall.
Her radio once again screamed to life, this time however, it was indistinguishable screaming. Akuma's ears rung as she slowly got up. Yet, was sent down to the ground again. As the ground literally shook beneath her. She raised her head and her eyes went wide in terror.
Stepping through the hole in the wall, was Godzilla. The Kaiju's dorsal fins and eyes glowing a bright blue in color. Blue smoke billowing out from his maw as the monster stepped into the harbor. She wanted to move, to do anything. Yet her body was frozen in complete terror. The Kaiju didn't roar. His mere presence was enough.
Fighter jets flew overhead, flying towards Godzilla. Opening fire on the Kaiju with missiles and bullets. Yet one was swatted out of the sky by Godzilla's claws. Another, struck down by Godzilla's tail.
She could hear her comrades' hurrying around and watched as the Kaiju stepped further into the Jarkata harbor. Finally, she found the strength to get up, and she stumbled backwards from the Kaiju. Right as everyone opened fire with rocket launchers and small arms fire. Which, didn't really seem to do much.
But it wasn't about hurting the Kaiju. It was about giving civilians time to evacuate. Even if they only slowed Godzilla down by mere seconds.
More fighter jets flew in, blasting at Godzilla. Still yet barely hurting him. As one couldn't move out of the way in time and the pilot had to eject as the jet they just piloted slammed into Godzilla's massive chest. Barely doing anything to harm the Kaiju. As a blue glow began to travel up his back. He was charging up his Atomic Breath. Before shooting down another two fighter jets that were flying away from him.
Sending them crashing down to the ground in the city limits.
Yet he continued forward. Continuously marching towards the city. Ignoring the soldiers shooting at him. At least until one rocket blast hit him right next to the eye. The massive Kaiju turned around to face the soldiers, and Akuma continued to run. She could hear them desperately shooting at Godzilla. As he charged up another blast of his Atomic Breath. Firing it, and hitting the spot where she just was not even a minute ago.
Akuma wasn't out of the blast range, and she was sent flying as something behind her exploded. She hit the ground hard, rolling a little bit. A sudden pain swelling in her shoulder. Akuma looked up, just to see nothing left. Her comrades, her friends. All gone in an instant.
She changed her gaze to Godzilla. Her face going white as the Kaiju locked eyes with her. Contemplating on killing her too. Before he suddenly turned away and continued to make his way inland. While Akuma just sat there.
Outpost Atlas
Everything was in disarray. Godzilla was attacking Jarkata. It was already on every UADF headline. How could it not be? This was the first major Kaiju attack that was more then simply walking through the city to get into the wilderness- it had been about . Ishiro had to hold his breath as he watched the live footage from a helicopter. As Godzilla swung his powerful tail through a building. Causing it to topple over. As tanks and UADF soldiers opened fire on the Kaiju. Yet nothing seemed to be slowing him down.
As the helicopter filming the scene had to roughly jerk upwards to avoid Godzilla's Atomic Breath. The blue flame cut down the street. Causing the pipes underneath the street to erupt into a massive explosion. Destroying the tanks and soldiers in a single blast as he continued forwards.
"Its just like during the war." Jackson commented.
"Hauntingly so." Ishiro replied. Eyes glued to the screen.
"Is there any reason to stop him?" Jackson asked.
"I doubt so. Godzilla in the past has levelled militaries far stronger then the UADF." Ishiro sighed.
"Don't remind me."
Silence fell over the two again. As they watched the carnage unfold on the screen. At least until Jackson spoke up again, looking over at Ishiro again before speaking.
"So... the drone following Megalon and Gigan was shot down." Jackson began.
"By who?" Ishiro asked.
"Dunno, but they clearly didn't want us following them." Responded Jackson. Glancing back at the screen for a few moments.
"Odd." Ishiro replied. Stroking his chin with his thumb and pointer finger.
Right as Godzilla swung his tail into a particularly tall skyscraper onscreen. Causing it to topple over, and slam into three more. Causing basically a domino effect, as the buildings fell to the ground. Creating massive clouds of dust and debris as the Kaiju continued forward. Smoke and fire raging behind him. Likely leaving hundreds, if not thousands dead in his wake.
By this point, the UADF ground forces had pretty much all but retreated from the scene. Clearly unable to even remotely slow down the Kaiju's rampage. Ryan had set down his headset. Probably unable to deal with the influx of radio chatter over every single UADF comm channel. Ishiro glanced over at the man. Who just silently shook his head. The Megazoologist looked back at the large screen. As Godzilla continued on with his rampage.
Although, helicopters and fighter jets still seemed to hound Godzilla with bullets and missiles. As he actually stopped in his walk to try and swat the pesky fliers out of the sky before they could do much damage to him. But this time, with little to no success. As Godzilla fired his Atomic Breath at a fighter jet. Only to miss and shoot the top of a skyscraper off instead.
Yet, Ishiro's gaze narrowed slightly. As he looked at Godzilla's dorsal fins. They were still glowing a slight blue. Yet they also seemed to be darker in color before, and didn't seem to go away. Odd. He never noticed that about Godzilla before. In fact, it looked like it was spreading down from his dorsal fins.
Like cracks in a stone wall. They were slow, and only seemed to show up after Godzilla used his Atomic Breath.
Jackson seemed to notice. Looking back at Ishiro.
"Something wrong sir?" Jackson asked.
"I think I'm just noticing something new about Godzilla. Look at the way his dorsal fins still glow after his Atomic Breath is fired." Ishiro replied.
Pointing to the screen. Jackson almost cocked his head to the side out of confusion. He couldn't really see what Ishiro was talking about. Although upon closer inspection, Jackson finally could see it. The small crack-like markings forming along his spine each time after he used his Atomic Breath. It was weird.
There wasn't anything that said Godzilla could do this. But, it was still worrying. Especially because Godzilla wasn't using his other abilities. Although Jackson would be swiftly corrected.
As on screen, Godzilla's dorsal fins began to glow again, and he opened his mouth. Yet instead of his Atomic Breath coming out. An almost laser-like beam of energy screamed out from Godzilla's mouth. It was his Atomic Shredder Beam. A more concentrated and deadly version of his Atomic Breath. But much more draining to use.
The beam cut through the air. Causing any fighter jet and helicopter unlucky enough to be caught in the beam's path to be sliced apart. Exploding in the air and crashing to the ground around Godzilla. Who, just let out a thunderous roar into the sky. Before continuing forward. This time however, Godzilla didn't continue his rampage, instead he just marched towards the outskirts of the city. Apparently having enough of his rampage.
Ishiro sighed in relief. Well, relief that Jarkata was spared further destruction at the claws of Godzilla. But that still left the rest of eastern Asia at his mercy. The question was, where was Godzilla going to attack next?
IKDC Command Center, Megatokyo
Cross knocked loudly on the bunk for Trace's dorm. The sound of his fist hitting the metal echoing slightly. It didn't take long for the man to get to the door, unlock it, and open it.
"Sir?" Trace asked. Nervously.
"We need Mecha Godzilla." Cross said sternly. "Now get your ass in gear son."
Trace opened his mouth to ask why. But he didn't say anything. He could get why Cross was ordering him to prepare to pilot Mecha Godzilla.
But that didn't mean Trace wasn't going to dread it anymore then he already was. After all, he was still haunted by their last fight in DC all those years ago. But he stepped out of his dorm, and exhaled softly. Following Cross down to where he was to pilot Mecha Godzilla.
The room was what could be described as a set up room, filled with computers, and a platform that rose a foot off the ground. Circular in shape. A headset set up from the top. Connected to the circuit system of the room. There was also some kind of harness. Which would allow for Trace to strap into the system.
"So what's the plan, sir?" Trace asked.
"Godzilla's already making a B-line for Manila. We're going to engage him in the harbor with Mecha Godzilla." Cross explained. "We've already gotten permission from UADF command to deploy Mecha Godzilla."
"I see." Trace swallowed dryly.
At least this time, He wasn't going to be there in person. He was just going to probably see everything through Mecha Godzilla's optics. He didn't know exactly how to feel about it. But, he stepped forward. Climbing up to the platform and strapping himself in. Putting the harness on. Taking a deep breath in and out as he reached his hands up.
Yet he hesitated. He knew Cross was looking at him. Probably even glaring at him right now. Trace looked at his hands. They were shaking slightly. Of course they were. He was about to fight the same monster that almost killed him last time they fought.
"What about the silicone casing on Mecha Godzilla?" Trace asked.
"It'll add extra protection to it." Cross replied simply. "You'll be fine son."
That did little to comfort Trace. But he steeled his nerves. Finally taking the headset in his hands and pulling it down to his face. Placing it upon his head. Taking a deep breath in and out. As a loading bar began to appear on the screen.
All the while, Mecha Godzilla was being airlifted out from his hangar bay. But the silicone covering, which made him look almost like Godzilla was slightly ripped from the cables that attached to it. The crews worried they'd slip and the mech would collapse in a heap. But thankfully they held strong.
Soon enough, Mecha Godzilla was airlifted out of its hangar bay and off towards Manila. To fight the worse of the worse of the monsters at their doorstep.
