Bruce could't tear his eyes away from the screen displaying Clark's vitals. They're steady, like they have been for the last couple of hours. But Bruce still felt like the instant he looks away, Clark's vitals will go haywire again.
He should rest, should let himself breathe. Clark's out of the scary part, he's been soaking in sunshine for hours. He'll be okay. But he can't relax until Clark is awake. So he'll keep his vigil.
The beep of the heart monitor increased, and Clark stirred. Bruce rushed over to his bedside.
"Kal, can you hear me?" He asked urgently.
Clark groaned and opened his eyes blearily. "Fuck off . . . too loud."
Bruce chuckled and lowered his voice. "I'll take that as a yes. How are you feeling?"
"Like people keep asking me stupid questions." Clark grumbled.
Bruce laughed a little too loudly and Clark clumsily pulled the sheet over his head, growling quietly.
"Sorry. I know you're hypersensitive to sound like this." Bruce apologized.
"S'fine." Clark mumbled. His hand snuck out from under the blankets and he fumbled around until Bruce took it and ran a gentle, calloused finger over Clark's knuckles.
Clark sighed in contentment, but kept the sheet over his head.
"You're adorable like this, you know?" Bruce said softly.
Clark hummed in confusion. "I'm hiding under a blanket and I keep growling at you."
"You're expressing your discomfort and soothing yourself. Nothing wrong with that. I'm just honored that I'm someone who makes you feel better." Bruce looks down at his hands. "After all, I'm sure these are a little too rough for you at the moment."
"No, they're perfect. Lots of texture makes good sensations." Clark insisted. ". . . and I'm glad you're here."
"I'm glad I'm here too."
