It was all so sudden.
Etho’s gasp of surprise.
The crash.
The ringing in his ears.
The sight of Etho’s body, slumped over, unconscious.
The blaring sirens of the balance and the ride on it.
The sterile smell of a hospital mixing with the metallic scent of blood.
The beeping of machines around him as people raced around.
Being rushed down the hall into a room with a bright light over him before darkness.

Bdubs blinks his eyes open, the sounds of a machine beeping beside him filling his ears.
Someone who is walking by, spots him and comes into his room.
The nurse informs him of what happened, “You were in a car accident with your partner, Etho Slab.”
“Where is he?” Bdubs rasps, throat dry and rough from not being used.
The nurse’s face drops a bit, “he’s in I.C.U.” she says, “he’s in a coma right now, but he should be moved to a personal room tomorrow.” she continues, “You should be able to visit him then.”
Bdubs relaxes back into the bed he’s laying on, because while Etho might not be okay, he’s alive.

Bdubs gets discharged from the hospital the next day.
His brother, Scar, comes and picks him up.
The day after that, Scar drives him back to the hospital to see his boyfriend.
Bdubs ends up sitting by Etho’s bed, not talking, just holding onto his hand, listening to the heart monitor beep, staring at his face, half covered on the left side where, according to a nurse Bdubs asked, he lost that eye due to the crash.

Bdubs spends every day he can at Etho’s bedside.
He starts to bring books, reading them to his partner, playing Etho’s favorite song quietly from his phone.
Everyday, Bdubs hopes and prays that his lover will awaken.

It has been a month and a half since the crash.
Bdubs is by Etho’s bedside, reading to him when he feels Etho’s hand )the one in his one) twitch.
Bdubs’ heart rate picks up.
Tears prick in Bdubs’ eyes as he looks up at Etho’s face.
His good eye is open and he’s smiling with a warm love in his eye.
“Bdubs?” he rasps quietly.
Said man starts to cry because Etho's awake and alive.
He stands up, moving closer to his boyfriend, cupping his good cheek and says through happy tears, “I love you so much.”
