Only Love Can Hurt Like This

Summary:

Owen and Legundo's conversation

Notes:

Honestly this is mainly for me, but maybe some of you will also like it.

I love Vampires SMP, and I was inspired

Work Text:

Owen was running from the castle after the surprise attack from the humans.

It was a shock, they believed they were fine, that no one knew.

“Owen.” The Doctor was behind him.

He didn't know what came over him in the moment, but he slowed down.

“Owen, we can talk.”

Owen stopped all together and turned around to Legundo. “Can we?”

Then they were face to face with each other.

Owen groans and rubs his face. “Oh, dear. It was all going so well.”

“Owen,” he looked up at the doctor, “I can help you.”

Owen scoffs at that. “You can't help me Doc.” He puts his hand to his forehead. “I can't even die, right?”

Legundo walks forward. “I’m a doctor. I can help you.” He motions back towards Oakhurst remembering the town meeting. “That story you told…” He then turned back to Owen. “...was it the truth?”

Owen lets out a soft condescending laugh. “Not exactly.” His mocking smile falls. “I did lose everything in Oakhurst, but it wasn't by the hands of vampires hunters, and it wasn't by the hands of vampires themselves. It was just…” he stopped for a moment before taking a deep breath. “... people being people.”

Legundo walks the rest of the way and touches Owen's shoulder. “People can change Owen.”

Owen's eyes widened at the soft comforting touch which reminded him of Lewis causing him to pull back. “No. No, the human race has been the same the entire time.”

He digs his nails into his arms. “Before I was a vampire, you were a cold and harsh presence. And even after, all the same.”

Legundo pries one of Owen's hands out of his arm leaving spotting spots of dark purplish-red blood. “You're sick.” He holds onto Owen's hand outlining his fingers. “You're suffering.”

Owen pulls his hand back. “I’ve been sick for a very long time.” He then pulls up his sleeve. “You see my skin? You see its marbled nature?”

Legundo takes a good look at Owen's skin taking note how it looks like a doll’s porcelain exterior.

“I was sick.” Owen begins to explain. “And this curse that you guys call it is a gift.” Owen shows off his brown-reddish eyes to Legundo’s greens. “It made me better.” He then looks away, closing his eyes as he puts his sleeve down. “I don't need curing.” He then turns back to Legundo. “I don't want to give this to you Legs. And neither does Pyro.”

Owen then walks up to Legundo. “But if you don't leave now-”

Legundo cuts in. “We can't leave. We're all stuck in Oakhurst.” He grabs his buzzed cut brown hair. “We spend days trying.”

Owen sighs. “I know, and I don't know what to tell you. Go back to Oakhurst, wall up, create defenses, do what you have to do.” Owen looks at his hands. “I don't want to be touched. I don't want to be cured.” He looks up at Legundo. “I'm already fine as I am. And more so, you’ve…”

It's strange Owen can tell if he had a pulse it would be racing, if he had blood in his body he would be blushing. He thought he would never feel this way after… “You’ve been the only good soul that I've found in the 225 years on the wretched earth, and so, I’m giving you this one opportunity and the one kindness I’ll show you until we meet again.”

Legundo stares at Owen. He can't believe what he was hearing at one point he believed they had a connection was that fake, a lie. He doesn't know what to believe anymore then it feels like his heart is being ripped out of his chest.

He takes in a shaky breath. “I can help you. All of you.”

Owen narrows his eyes. “We don't want your help.”

He remembers the days with Lewis, how happy they were. How happy they could've been together. Now all he has left is what his sire gave to him.

“I'm perfectly happy as I am. We all are.” He walks up and gently touches Legundo’s hand. “You like it too.” He then pulls his hand back. “You're a doctor. Consider all of the good you could do with immortal life.” He smiles at Legundo. “You don't lose those skills, they stay with you. You could save thousands over the years. You have a real opportunity to make a real change in the world.”

Legundo actively grabs Owen's hand, intertwining their fingers. “No one deserves to suffer losing everything they've ever loved.” He shakes his head. “It's not something I’d wish on anyone.”

Owen looks at their hands before pulling away. “It's getting early.” He narrows his eyes again. “I won't ask again.”

Legundo looks at Owen with saddened eyes. “I’ll go.” He leans forward to kiss Owen's forehead causing the vampire's eyes to widen. “But I won't stop trying to help you.”

He then walks away.

Owen touches his forehead before walking back to the castle.
