The Vampire Ball

Summary:

It is the middle of night but Oakhurst seems awake. The townsfolk are on watch as the vampires have been quiet lately…oddly so.

Chapter 1: The Letter

Chapter Text

While walking past one of the gates of Oakhurst, Avid spots a book laying just beyond it. He cautiously approaches the book, he feels like he shouldn’t be doing this alone but something seems to be drawing him to it. He picks it up as he reads the cover “To the Town of Oakhurst”.

Avid runs back into town with the book tucked under his arm. The letters on the cover seem to glow slightly in the dim light of the night. He calls a town meeting at the beacon tower, ringing a bell they have in it to notify people. Avid is kinda freaked out about how the book got there…… and why does it feel off—supernaturally off.

As the town gathers around Avid, the question of what this is about is whispered into the wind from multiple people. Avid clears his throat before he speaks “Hey, so there was this book outside the gate and it’s addressed to all of us.” He pauses for a moment to look at the book, he holds it out so everyone can see it. The glow of the letters seem to change as the town gets a look at it, from a warm auburn color to a deep crimson red…just like the vampires beacons.

After a moment of silence of watching the glow change, Cleo finally speaks up “So are we going to read it, it is for us after all.”

They nod in agreement. As Avid takes the book back toward him as he opens it. The handwriting is fancy, squiggling and twirling across the page. He breathes in before reading out loud to everyone—

      “Dear Oakhurst,
This might be a surprise to receive a letter from me of all creatures, but I would love to invite you all to a party of a lifetime. A tradition I would be delighted to bring back to Oakhurst as it has been lost to time it seems. So please for one night out of the year I ask that we put our differences aside and have a wonderful night filled with dancing and chatter.

        Please dress-to-impress.

Meet at the bridge as the sun sets below the horizon, Tomorrow evening.

              It’ll be to die for.”

Avid pauses as he takes in what he just read. A party?? Really? Then he finishes the letter
