Summary
Remmick had come to stand just outside the pub's entrance, one palm resting halfway up its wooden door frame and the other resting over the strap of his banjo, just above his heart. His fingers drummed rhythmically against the wood as he gazed up at his newfound filí with a mixture of delight and disbelief. When their eyes finally met across the crowded pub, his smile broadened into a toothy Cheshire grin, and in response the young man treated him to a wink. Playfully, Remmick brought his free hand up to his forehead in a mock-swoon. His filí’s eyes twinkled and lingered for a few beats longer before sweeping across the crowd once more.
Remmick survives sunrise at the juke joint and travels North in search of a place with long nights, short days, and a new filí. His travels bring him to Newfoundland, Canada, a province with a rich history of Irish music, and a talented young singer nearing the end of his natural life. As their relationship progresses, he's forced to reconcile his own traumatic history with his actions a century ago in Mississipi.
