Chapter Text
MISSION FAILED.
Great. Just Great. Now the Red Ring had stolen the vial. Robert knew whatever it was, it was bad.
“Flambae, Waterboy. What happened?”
“Ay, blame Wetwipebitch. Puked up fluids all over the floor, put out my fire and now my ass hurts.”
“T-They, uh… got- gotten… away… potion– agh, vial is… g-gone. Disappeared.”
Fuckk…
“Okay, okay. Don't panic… whatever is in that vial… can't be that bad.” Robert reassured, more to himself than to the rest of the team.
“Mate, that might’ve been some secret weapon that'll be used to end the world!” Malevola's voice crackled to life, and more voices yelled out in agreement.
Then, BEEP! Another mission.
“Uhhh, cough. Is this SDN? Some weird– cough smoke just filled the area. Cough everyone's… s– cough sick…”
Robert was just about to respond and send out Malevola and Sonar, when…
BLECH, SNARL, CRACK.
“OH MY— COUGH GOD, THEY’RE ANGING… EVERYONES– COUGH COUGH–”
The call had disconnected.
That can't be good…
“Malevola, Sonar. Go and check on them.”
After some ‘Yes sirs,’ Robert waited intently for a new mission, when… 4, 5, 6…
7 more mission alerts popped up. All at the same time.
The fuck was he supposed to do? Flambae and Waterboy had just returned, Malevola and Sonar had just started on another mission, Punch-ups resting, and Invisigal and Prism were downed.
“Holy shit.” Sonar's voice rang out. “Come look at this, Rob.”
He switched to the camera footage, and what he saw made him wish he had hesitated to do so.
Civilians, monsters, other heroes. Running around, biting others, or on the floor going through a horrific transformation. They looked like something out of a Sci-fi horror movie, eyes dilating and bony antennas breaking though the top of their head. The sight made Robert want to puke.
More heroes, wearing protective gear, quickly quarantined the area, pushing Malevola and Sonar out of the way, though not before giving them a quick disinfection.
Blonde Blazer's voice crackled to life though the comms.
“Team-Z, I need you all to stay out of the way for a little while. Take a break, we'll call you in for assistance when needed.”
A chorus of groans crackled through his headset, and he couldn't tell if they were relieved or annoyed at getting put to the side like that.
“Alright, team. Just because we're backup doesn't mean any of you guys can slack off. Grab a snack and drink some water, or something.
Flambae, Sonar, Waterboy, Malevola, go take a quick shower. I don't want any of you guys mutating into weird alien creatures.”
This will be a long night.
“Fuckkkk.” Flambae leaned against the wall, running a hand through his perfectly-styled, albeit a little messy, hair. He took a deep breath, unintentionally letting out a soft whistle from the gap in his teeth.
“A shower? Ah, too much time, Bob-Bob. You forget that I control the fire, and the flame. The virus will not survive in my body.”
He spoke into the microphone fire-proof near the side of his mouth, before balling his fist and focusing his energy to engulf his body in fire. He stayed like this for about… 3 seconds or so, before he absorbed it back into his body.
“Yeah, yeah. Whatever. Everyone else just take a shower.” Robert replied, seemingly unimpressed. It made Flambae raise an eyebrow. How could he be unimpressed!?
The rest of the shift was a blur– Getting into protective gear, occasionally getting sent to help other heroes on saving civilians and capturing the infected.
Back at his apartment, Chad laid on his bed, exhaustion clouding his mind.
Probably just a few more days of enduring this, then they'll find a cure, and everything will go back to normal. Chad thought to himself, in a non-reassuring way, of course. He never gets worried, even if a mutating alien virus was in the way.
Chad coughs.
