Summary
The end of the world looks like the middle of summer. It sounds like birdsong and rustling wind as it dances through the trees. It looks like empty streets, ready for the taking by rowdy boys with too much time on their hands. The end of the world looks like childhood, in the way there’s no boundaries, nothing to fear. The empty streets look infinite, waiting for long evenings and late mornings. Sprinklers waved their water in lazy arches, greeting them before falling onto freshly cut lawns. The spray hits the pavement with soft slaps, pooling into puddles before disappearing into the cracks of the sidewalk. The end of the world smells like dust and asphalt, like the air before a thunderstorm. The end of the world is beautiful, and that’s the worst part.
