Work Text:

"Ugh- It's raining? Seriously?! Great, just great.." The entity retreated back under the cave roof, crossing his arms and presumably pouting.

Z snickered, raising an eyebrow "Dude, really? You can't handle a little rain?" He swung his pickaxe over his shoulder and turned around to face the other, a smug grin plastered on his face.

They had just surfaced from a particularly long mining trip and Z was eager to get home and relax but Reject's sudden reluctance to leave frustrated him slightly.

"Come on, you're a.. Cosmic... Eldritch horror with godly powers or something and you can't stand rain?" Z quipped, preparing himself for a barrage of petty insults.

Reject's shoulders tensed as he turned away from Z "I fucking hate the rain! It's- It's just- I hate it."

Silence overwhelmed them for a moment, the muffled sounds of raindrops pattered in the background. The player was taken-aback. The entity had gotten salty about some dumb arguement before but right now it felt like Z had crossed a boundary. And sure Reject had crossed his fair share of boundaries in the past but damn he felt like a dick.

"Alright, sorry," Z mumbled, turning his gaze onto the cave entrance. The lack of distracting noise gave the player a moment to think. He sighed and slid off his jacket, and as Reject turned back around to see what he was doing Z draped it over the entity's shoulders.

"Hey-"

"There, now, will you stop bitching so we can go home?" Giving Reject a supportive pat on the arm, Z stepped towards the opening to go outside.

"Uhmm," Reject stood still, feeling his theoretical head try to wrap itself around what happened. He adjusted jacket, before perking up at Z's voice.

"You coming, moron?"

"Yeah, asshole, I'm trying not to pass out over your gross jacket," Reject caught up with the player, wincing as the cold air his his neck stump.

The walk back home was quiet. And as they reached the front door to their house Reject spoke up "Oh, uhm, Z? Thanks, for the jacket, yeah,"

"The jacket, yeah, no problem," The two lingered in the doorway, it was rare for them to have a conversation this tame and tender, and both guessed the other wanted to soak in it for a minute longer before inevitably going back to yelling at eachother.

They would have stood there for longer if it wasn't for Mo opening the door and greeting them energetically, honking on about blaze rods and giving her water bottles mysterious effects.

Yeah, the rain sucked, but Reject figured that as long as he had Z and Mo he could wait out the storms with no problem.
