   Summary

   A queen does not forget. A mother does not forgive.

   Forged in the crucible of Targaryen cruelty, her voice—a blade sheathed too long—falls silent no more.

   For her children, for the woman she was meant to be, Alicent acts. She will not yield to their dishonor, nor bend to their malice.

   She will rise, not in spite of the pain, but despite it.

   If a king will not protect his own blood, he is a father no more. If a princess would become a kinslayer for a throne, she is a sister no more.

   Alicent does not dream of distant futures or clutch at them with desperate hands. She listens. She has always listened, heard the whispers others ignore, the truths they dare not speak.

   Queen Alicent of House Hightower can no longer toil in service to a realm that devours its own.

   So she listens, at last, to the final voice
   the one that has always been her own.
   And with a heart heavy, she leaps toward her destiny.
