Chapter Text
The trees sway in the dark.
The wind blows through leaves and the fur of creatures that sleep in the night. Usagi, our lady vampire rabbit enjoyed the wind.
At night you can often see her standing by the waterfall. This vampire is a strange one. If you asked a villagers of one of the local villages about her, they will tell you that they never ever seen her drinking blood of their folks. But they don’t know where she gets her source of food from.
Nobody dares to get close to her to ask. She is still a vampire after all. Nobody knows nothing about the vampire, except that was a daughter of the Miyamoto family. The family was well off, since for generations the eldest son would be the chief of the village.
There was also a bunch of rumors about her aswell. Some say she was cursed. Some say that her parents must of done something so bad in their past lives, that they were punished; that punishment being Usagi herself.
Honestly the rumors where close enough, not that Usagi would confirm or deny them. She enjoyed hearing what crazy assumptions they made about her. It was entertaining to her.
———
Currently Usagi is on that waterfall, gazing at the village. She can see the villagers are all inside their house, having dinner, laughing, with joy shining in their eyes. It was a peaceful night that brought a smile to her face, but then movement could be heard behind her. Something was in the bushes.
Usagi’s ears twitched at the noise. The vampire-rabbit could tell whatever is moving behind her was small. She turned around and approached the rustling bush slowly. She carefully stared at the leaves of the bush that were being moved around. Then a small green animal hopped out. The rabbit lets out a small chuckle.
It was just a tokage, nothing harmless. The tiny guy was smelling around her and staring at Usagi’s kimono.
“Well it seems like the little guy is hungry.. let’s see if I have something.” Usagi digs inside her yukata. Then she finds a juicy red apple she was saving for later, but she shrugs her greed aside and gives it to the little guy. She watches as the tiny critter sink its teeth into it and devoured the whole apple.
Then some black figure passed by her in a rushed manner, almost knocking her over, the rabbit couldn’t figure out what the figure was. Usagi just shrugged, it was probably some animal who was hungry or something.
The moon was starting to set and the sun was rising. Usagi hasn’t even slept a wink. It’s probably for the best that she probably get some now. Even if she could stay out in the sun, it’s better for her to get rest, or everyone would have to deal with a grumpy vampire. That’s what she goes to do, saying her goodbye to the the little tokage and making her way to the little abandoned cabin in the woods.
The cabin was small, all it had was one bedroom, a bathroom, a small area to cook, and a decent area to lounge around in. It had simple furniture and everything was old. Afterall it was a place that Usagi stumbled upon when she was looking for shelter all those years ago..
Anyways, the vampire-rabbit leaves her sandals at the front of the house and makes her way to the bedroom. She gently lays herself upon the futon. She gets all cozy and closes her eyes for the daytime.
Normally when she sleeps, she could hear sounds from one of the nearby village. The village she could always hear was called the Algriculture Village, kinda a lazy name if you ask her. Though today was different, as the hours pass, it was all silent. She couldn’t even hear children running around and playing.
But the vampire rabbit thought nothing about it, it’s nice having peace for once when sleeping. So for the rest of the time while the sunlight was still shining, Usagi took advantage of sleeping peacefully.
She only woke up when the sun was completely gone. Usagi felt completely rested, she sits up with a stretch. She got up and fixed her futon before grabbing a big shiner red apple from her tiny basket of fruit. She always keeps fruit near her, that’s what keeps her from getting hungry.
The vampire sinks her fangs into the apple, letting the juices of the apple flow into her mouth. The peel of the apple starts to shrivel and once it starts to lose some color, she takes a big bite. Once she finished, she goes outside and leaves what remains of the apple for other creatures to eat.
Usagi noticed how really quiet it is out here, strange not even an insect could be heard. If she thinks about it, she really didn’t hear anything in all day, even in her sleep.
No birds, no children, no insects, and not even a tokage!
She finds it strange,
A weird feeling creeps up in her stomach.
This is unusual.
Should she investigate?
Or just stay in her cabin?
Well Usagi isn’t one to shy from being nosy, so she decides to investigate. For a good half hour, she looked around the forest.
Nothing, she found nothing.
That’s fine, she’ll just carefully check the village that’s right next to the forest entrance. She plans to sneak in to make sure everything is okay and then sneak out. So she makes her way to the Algiculture village.
It should be easy.
It infact it wasn’t easy.
When she got to the village, she finds the people of this town scattered all over the ground. Nobody was moving, they all looked pale. The town itself was a mess. The food stands were knocked over, structures were torn and in shambles, overall the once vibrant town was now a graveyard.
Usagi was used to seeing lifeless corpses, but this wasn’t what she’s used to. Even the children were caught in whatever happened here.
Even the only person that actually cared about her is probably among these cold corpses. That realization caused dread in Usagi. The rabbit went in overdrive and started searching for that person.
The person was a little cat villager named Hana. She was only 7 years old. Once a month Hana would find Usagi and tell her adventures that the kitten had. The vampire adored hearing those adventures, but now there’s a chance she can’t anymore.
The vampire was looking all over the ruined town.
She wouldn’t stop until she finds Hana.
After looking for a good 10 minutes, she finds Hana’s body.
Usagi dashed towards the kitten’s body. The rabbit kneels besides Hana and carefully took the little girl’s body in her arms. She took two fingers and started to check for a pulse, she was feeling for a sign of life.
Tears formed in her eyes like crystals.
The vampire then noticed something, two holes on Hana’s neck. The holes were close together. Usagi carefully takes a finger and touches the surrounding fur. There’s some dried blood on the fur surrounding the wounds. Something Usagi knows well from her own experiences.
Another vampire.
Before Usagi could even think about what actions she should take, she heard footsteps behind her and then cold metal is pressed against her neck. It’s a blade from someone’s sword.
“Drop the body and carefully stand up.”
