Lyon was heading down to the wine cellar, readying everything to hold the Sacrament the way he always did, pretending that they weren't stuck in this recursive loop. He walked down the narrow stone steps, caught off guard by the soft glow of candles from deeper in the cellar. Lyon kept a hand on the wall to steady himself as he moved closer. He couldn't help but gasp when he saw what was on the floor.
Cam was curled up on his side, a handful of empty wine bottles, a crystal glass with a few stray drops of wine still inside it, and a pair of dying candles nearby. Lyon's heart nearly stopped.
That much wine could kill someone as young and small as the boy.
Lyon knelt next to Cam, fingers carefully searching out the boy's pulse. He breathed a sigh of relief when he could feel a slow, thready pulse under his fingertips.
"You scared me, little one," he whispers to the still-sleeping Cam, gathering the child into his arms to carry him back upstairs. Cam stirred slightly, trying to squirm to get more comfortable against Lyon's chest. Lyon began to purr deep in his chest, trying to comfort the little tenno.
"I don' wanna get up, Margulis," Cam slurred into Lyon's shoulder. Lyon chuckled a little.
"Just sleep," he tells the boy, carrying Cam up the stairs. Cam's hand grips onto Lyon's arm almost instinctively. The protoframe sighs, but he can't help but smile. Asleep and clingy, the usually very solemn child was almost adorable. He tries to set the boy down on one of the pews, but Cam wouldn't let go.
Lyon tried to pry the boy's fingers off, but Cam's grip was strong. Lyon sighs, sitting down on the pew next to Cam. Cam nuzzles into Lyon until he's laying across the protoframe's lap. Lyon rests a hand on Cam's back, rubbing soothing circles as the boy slept off the drunken haze.
