"Awww, mon petit chéri," Marie cooed, swooping down to give Cam a tight hug. She floated up happily as she offered him a little candy. Cam hesitated, then took it, his cheeks hot with embarrassment as she helped him open the waxed paper.
"Does your head still hurt, mon loulou?" She says, checking Cam's temperature with her wrist. He was fresh off the battlefield, but even so, he was holding steady. Marie reminded him of Margulis in some ways. So effortlessly kind, yet trusting him to take care of his missions on his own.
"I'm fine," he protested, "I'm not even hungover anymore." Marie hummed, checking his eyes. She was like a strange mix of mother and sister, someone who was both wholeheartedly and unreasonably on his side, and would fuss over his health if she got even an inkling that something was wrong.
"You should still drink more water," she chides, taking his hand and guiding him to sit back down on one of the pews. She fetched him a glass of water and hovered over him as he drunk it.
"I'm not going to keel over," Cam protested, but Marie nudged him to keep drinking the water. Cam sighed theatrically as he drained the glass and Marie carefully pet his hair, giving him a kiss on the forehead. He was secretly enjoying the attention, leaning into Marie's touch. Marie giggled, pulling Cam into a side hug, sitting next him on the pew. He rested his head on her shoulder and she wrapped an arm around him.
Her embrace was warm, lulling Cam into a more relaxed state. He closed his eyes, his usual alertness falling off as battle-weariness took its toll and the little tenno fell into a quiet sleep, resting his head on Marie's shoulder.
