The weather was nice and cool for the time of year.
Not too cold, but warm enough to where Sonic didn’t worry about ice on the roads as he helped his family set up for Christmas after they managed to pry him off cuddling Shadow for fifteen minutes.
“This is his first Christmas and our first Christmas together! It has to be PERFECT!” Sonic said as he wrapped the box of coffee beans he got Shadow, Amy laughing as she set out the various gifts she brought, most from the bakery she lived above.
“Oh c’mon Sonic! Shadow is going to love anything you do! It's not like the bar is too high.” she laughed, looking over as Tails, Knuckles, Tom and Maddie all worked on baking cookies, Knuckles even making some for Wade celebrating Hanukkah.
“Well I KNOW but I still want it to be great! I want to be the reason he likes Christmas!” Sonic said as he finished wrapping the gift, albeit shoddily as he slapped a giant red bow on it, sliding it under the tree before getting up.
“I’m gonna go get him! We have a LOT of Christmas movies to watch!” Sonic grinned as he zipped away, knocking on Shadow’s room before peaking in, noticing Shadow just watching the Charlie brown Christmas special.
“Hey Shads, how you holding up?” Sonic’s voice softened, moving to slip next to him in bed, Shadow wrapping his arm around the cobalt hedgehog on reflex, Sonic moving to lightly rest his head on Shadow’s shoulder.
“Well enough, your family becomes quite busy during this season? Shadow looked over at Sonic who just laughed and nodded, moving to lightly intertwine their free hands together.
“Yeah, but I like that about the holidays, it makes everything feel alive! Plus we even got some old vintage decorations so you can ease into it, even if most of them are blow molds…” Sonic chuckled sheepishly, Shadow letting out a small smile and shaking his head, lightly kissing his cheek, Sonic starting to purr the moment the ebony hedgehog’s lips touched his muzzle.
“You still put effort into this, I appreciate it.” Shadow observed his work of a Sonic with his muzzle bright red, the other hedgehog’s own cheeks lightly tinting green as he nuzzled into Sonic’s quills.
“I’m just happy I get to spend your first Christmas with me! Do you wanna see the decorations lit up? We can watch the rest of this with the others.” Sonic offered, Shadow contemplating before shaking his head, looking back at the animated special.
“I want to spend this time with you, we can group back up with them afterwards.” Shadow said quietly, Sonic keen to quiet down and just watch the movie, soft Christmas music echoing in the background as the rest of his family set up the few remaining items.
“C’mon open it! I know you're gonna love it!” Sonic grinned as he passed the messily wrapped gift onto Shadow’s lap, who still itched at the ugly sweater he wore as he stared at the box, slowly opening it, Sonic’s tail whirling wildly as he watched Shadow opening the gift, noticing how the ebony hedgehog’s gaze slightly grew warmer as he saw the coffee.
“You remember the brand I like…” he said quietly, Sonic nodding as he noticed how bashful Shadow was, in his own way of course, his muzzle only slightly green since he was in front of other people.
“Well yeah! I put a LOT of thought into it! Do you like it?” Sonic rambled rapidly, Amy couldn’t help but giggle as she took a picture, texting it to Tom and Maddie for them to have later, before sending it to Metal, Vanilla and Cream who were having their own celebrations, Vector, Espio and Charmie even having come over to share a dinner.
“Of course I do, you got it for me.” Shadow said quietly to Sonic, leaning in as if the words were for Sonic and Sonic alone, and it drove the cobalt hedgehog crazy.
“Great! I’m so happy you like it!” Sonic pulled Shadow into a hug, watching as the ebony hedgehog’s longer tail flicked in happiness as the two snuggled into each other, Sonic standing up and lightly guiding Shadow up as well before looking at his family “I’ll be right back! I want to show Shadow something!” Sonic grinned as he guided Shadow away, Shadow noticing that Tails activated a small drone to follow them.
“Your brother is watching us.” Shadow said, Sonic laughing as he shrugged.
“Oh it's just mom and dad being paranoid, they don’t want us doing anything TOO bad after I show you this.” Sonic snickered before pausing at a doorway, Shadow’s expression slowly becoming confused before Sonic flashed a cheeky grin and pointed up, the ebony hedgehog’s gaze slowly moving upward, only to see a plant at the top of the doorway.
Mistletoe.
“Did Maria or any of the scientists on the arc ever tell you about what mistletoe means?” Sonic asked, watching as Shadow shook his head, Sonic moving to lightly cup the other hedgehog’s face, chuffs leaving his throat as he slowly leaned in.
“Let me show you” Sonic smiled before closing the distance between the two into a kiss, Shadow stiffening from the open space the two were in before relaxing, moving his own hands to cup Sonic’s face back as he returned the kiss.
The kiss remained light, soft, nothing that would be too concerning, Tails sighing before moving the drone away, giving the two hedgehog’s space as they both laughed, pulling away and smiling at each other before kissing once again, chuffs, purrs filling the hallway they were in before they both finally separated from the kiss, both of their faces equally flushed.
“Merry Christmas Shadow” Sonic smiled, Shadow smiling a little wider as he pressed his forehead against the formers.
“Merry Christmas Mi Estrella.” Shadow whispered back
