Manifestations

Summary:

Mr Clarke has started to notice the Party gaining powers like those of potential wizards. He helps where he can.

Notes:

I have not seen the latest series. Nor did I finish series 4. I would say apologies for any inaccuracies but this is a wizardry au too soo, you chose what's inaccuracy and what's au?

Work Text:

Will shows signs of prophecy and creation.

“Can you move your class plans around?” Mr Clarke looked up at the question, wondering how any of his students even knew his plans. He didn’t like to share them since different classes needed lessons with varied focuses and information depths to them so changing the plans happened regularly.

“I often do. Why are you asking?” He replied, recognising Will Byers as the one who’d spoken though his friends were all close by too. They’d somewhat hovered by him since he’d been found.

Will looked concerned for a moment before sighing. “The next experiment you’ve got planned for us will go wrong on the date you’ve planned it. Our will get vandalised badly. But if it’s a week later the kid who does that won’t be in.”

He nods, making a note of what Will says, “I’ll consider making the change. Thank you for telling me what you believe will happen. Did you hear someone planning to vandalise you?”

“Uh-” The boys before him all share uncertain looks.

Dustin steps forward, putting a hand on Will’s shoulder as he agrees, “Sure. Thanks Mr Clarke.”

Mr Clarke isn’t sure if he’s foretelling events or speaking and drawing them into existence, but after the third time it’s definitely a power emerging.

Mike keeps on seeming to levitate things around him, or himself, but could have spirits do it.

“So I just- El, can you not?” Mike glares at the item as he grabs it from the air, then looks around as if expecting someone to be there. “El?”

Will shakes his head, “I’m pretty sure that was you, Mike.”

“No. That’s what El does! She’s alive, I swear and doing this, like you did the lights.” He protests.

Getting the attention back on the class, hopefully before any other students notice is all that can be done in that moment.

Mr Clarke wonders who El is and why the boy thinks she’s doing this. He finally steps in for Mike after an argument in class ends with a table shoved across the room into the wall, thankfully only turning students in its path around instead of injuring them.

The one who Mr Clarke gets closest to alerting the school to is Dustin. He starts attracting animals to him.

It starts with more strays finding their way around the school. The cleaners complain and Mr Clarke spots Dustin kneeling down to talk to a couple before they stop.

Then it becomes bees. After a week of Dustin having bees near him the school calls in pest control to try and figure out why so many are getting into classrooms upsetting most of the students.

“Ha! You using your mom’s perfume!” The jeer makes him look over to see two or three bees perched on Dustin’s shoulders and the boy glaring at the student who’d spoke.

He doesn’t retort though, as the bees take off for towards the offender, others joining them as they went.

The insects were worrying when they caused bullies to target him upon their appearance and even more so after they proved to get defensive, but Dustin did start trying to ask the creatures around him not to attack unless he made a move to, stopping the attention that was beginning to fall on him.

To hopefully avoid the school getting properly involved, Mr Clarke volunteers to accompany a school trip to a zoo a town over, but finds it wasn’t needed as no animals there react like the ones in Hawkins were doing.

Lucas’s strategy makes Mr Clarke wonder a lot.

“Hey Mike, I’m just going to check something.” Lucas called, frowning for a moment and glancing at some other kids in the area.

Mike had carried on with a wave, never noticing Lucas moving towards the kids he’d spotted, but Mr Clarke was carefully watching from the door to his classroom.

“It’s not your business.” Lucas states quietly, stepping over to them, back straight.

One of the boys scoffs, “Sure it is. A wizard from our town would get us so much.”

“Would it?” Lucas kept his voice quiet, “Or would it destroy your families when it’s revealed you make those accusations based off trying to force him into suicide? I think it’d be the latter.”

“How do you even know who we’re talking about?” Is snapped back, though it’s clear the pair he’s addressing are unsettled by the idea.

Mr Clarke also is, given he doesn’t think even the worst bullying had gone that far in this town. He thought it might be Mike that was being spoken about though, not just because that was who Lucas had just been with, but because levitation was the most obvious to people who weren’t trained in wizardry.

It’s eerily like the boy can read minds but only in regards to how they’ll hurt him or his friends. That’s the most specific and wizard like power of the group but Mr Clarke still fails to make sense of what would have caused such a power to develop.

Even after noticing the unfolding of wizardry in them Mr Clarke is bewildered, wondering what happened to the kids.

Noticing that Erica also shows powers once she’s in his class doesn’t help things at all.

“Mr Clarke, it’s clear what you’re showing us. Do we have to waste time when that map is so simplified?” Erica complained at the first diagram of the organs of the human body shown in his class.

He blinked for a moment, looking at it, before picking up a pen. “It’s as detailed as the current lesson requires, but if you’d prefer to add further details, please do.”

She did just that and he reached for his more advance biology books to confirm that it was all correct. “While having the veins and nerves included does make this a more accurate representation of the human body, does it help us to understand how organs interact with each other?” Mr Clarke asked once she finished, but he was actually wondering; Why would she need a talent for map-making even bodies?

Why would any of the kids have gone through traumatic events specialised enough to do the things they’re now gifted in?

“Mr Harrington, can I ask you a few things about the kids you’ve been looking after?” Mr Clarke would go to the kids parents with his questions, but he’s noticed Steve Harrington getting involved with the group now seeming to be wizards within a year of when their abilities started to show. That was why he had overruled his usual defaulting to children’s guardians in favour of him.

Steve looked at him warily for a moment before nodding, “Sure, but I don’t want this to show up in one of your collections.”

He nodded, “I have other ways to keep my information stored and to protect it. You know all of them seem to show signs they need training in wizardry, correct?”

“Shut up out here!” Steve snapped, grabbing his arm and dragging them into his car with a glance at someone passing in a suit. “Primary info you definitely need to remember: Don’t highlight anyone in this town for wizardry! You seem to have been ignored but we’ve no clue how this shit started so yes, I’ve noticed. We’re not talking about it deliberately.”

Mr Clarke glanced out of the car, “So the kids are getting training?”

Steve huffed, “No. That’d just have them trying to put themselves in more danger. I only encourage what should keep them safe.”

With a hint of suspicion and the knowledge that clearly something was being kept not just from him but almost everyone, He asks, “So has something changed with you as well?”

“You’re out of it and safe currently. I know your wizardry involves collecting info, but know when it’s better for you not to.” He warned.

Avoiding learning something wasn’t in Mr Clarke’s plans but while he knew nothing of what had occurred, nor how it might have impacted Steve, he could agree to delaying his questions for a while longer. At least until his observations revealed more.
