Summary
Year 2050, humanity is fighting monsters called “urans.” If a uran injures a person, that person will also become a uran, losing all reason and consciousness. This was caused by a radioactive bioagent released in 1950, infecting the entire world. 100 years later, what remains of humanity survives thanks to walled cities, strict population control, and the daily killing of urans.
Reproduction depends on a small percentage of the population who are fertile, those who managed to adapt to radiation and whose offspring are born successfully. Men are called priapuses and women are called venuses. Venuses are sheltered in Birthing Houses, where they give birth to as many babies as possible. Humanity depends on mothers surviving and continuing their work endlessly.
If a venus leaves her duty, she's seen as a traitor and immoral. They are called “harpies.” If she also joins the army to kill urans, she is considered a criminal against humanity. Dalton wants to kill urans and rise to the rank of sergeant, but he must do so while keeping secret the fact that he is considered a harpy because he was once called a venus.
